Fragrance Review For Classica
Santa Maria Novella
Notes
Lemon
Bergamot
Citrus
White Flowers
The classic cologne that launched this magnificent fragrance line long regarded as one of the finest fragrances of Italian origin. A simple scent it is reminiscent of such citrus based colognes as 4711 and Florida Water. A fresh and sour lemon scent opens the fragrance. This lemon is sharp and revitalizing like a tonic or medicine that’s not too sweet.
More than anything the citrus is meant to awaken you and freshen the skin like an old fashioned barbershop skin freshner or after shave. Being a citric toilet water this fragrance is completely unisex and wearable as a pick me up scent for both men and women. The scent is not very long lasting but when layered with neroli or Orange blossom as well as lemon verbena either as a perfume, cologne or toilet water or even body lotion, the scent has a little more silage and throws out the aroma. It feels casual and summery.
It’s practical use is for scenting the skin or clothes after a shower and to keep you cool in extreme heat in the summer, I’m also getting a marine and beach vibe from it. Smells like an Italian villa household bath product. Today I’m wearing it in Milan for Fashion Week and I borrowed it from my friend Claudia who tells me her family uses it as a skin freshner not as one would wear a regular perfume. In the background there’s a jasmine and other nondescript white floral notes giving it a soft sweet air.
If you like citrus this is going to scratch your lemon and Orange itch.

Much like Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino, just an expensive version of 4711.

I sampled this in very hot weather, so probably different effect than the temprate Italian climate it was originally intended for.
It was fresh, citrusy and spicy, and slightly medicinal. No synthetic after smell. However, after the initial freshness wore off, it became too soapy to wear as a perfume.
