At first spray, this comes off as explosive and it’s momentarily overwhelming…almost headache quality and then it melds into a bubbly, alive, energetic combination of notes that is wild and delicious. You just have to get through the intense opening.

A blind buy that I didn’t expect much of considering the reviews here but this a surprisingly delicious and beautiful creature!
If Tom Ford and YSL Nu had a grand mother this would be it. Louder than both but just as smoth, creamy and woody as Santal Blush, crips and spicy as the now discounted NU. I have both but prefer the Montale since its performance is much, much better. I honestly don’t get a lot of flowers but the citruses are apparent. Most of all I get the sandalwood.
I’m very very happy!
EDIT Now I totally get the flowers that I didn’t in the beginning. But I like it all the same, maybe ever more!

This is much sweeter and more floral than I had expected. Basically, a smokey floral vanilla with a hint of sandalwood. Somewhat old-fashioned and loud (unless you dab), but not entirely unpleasant. Try before you buy!

this is nice, sweet and florally. it’s pleasant to smell and quite dainty. the floral component is large here, and the santalwood comes in close second. by and large, it’s quite the nice little number. like this one…

Montale SANDAL SLIVER–at least my sample of it–is a floral bomb. I do believe (as indicated at another site) that these are the correct notes:
Bergamot, Jasmine, Neroli, Orange blossom, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Citruses
Lots of jasmine, neroli, and orange blossom are blended with a touch of sandalwood and citrus. I do not detect much in the way of vanilla. To my nose this is a big floral perfume in the 1980s style, which would probably appeal to femmes d’un certain âge who wear the Elizabeth Taylor DIAMONDS series. The quality here is obviously much better, but the spirit is the same. I would never call this a unisex perfume, to be honest, and I cannot think of any gents off the top of my head who would want to wear SANDAL SLIVER. I imagine that the low ratings derive from dashed expectations. Is this a sandalwood perfume? No, not at all. Flowers, not sandalwood, are the focus.
I have smelled a few other recent perfumes in this style: DAVID YURMAN and some of the La Praire Life Threads series members inhabit the same general olfactory neighborhood. Lots of over-the-top richness combined with abundant and potent flowers! This is not really my style, but it is extremely strong, more like a parfum than an eau de parfum, so for those who like huge floral compositions, a small bottle would suffice for a lifetime. The color of the sample in my vial is dark burnt orange, so it even looks like parfum!

I am not getting any citruses, but the sandalwood is pleasant. Quite strong, yet silky, very dry and very unisex, this fragrance indeed seems to contain some notes of “ash” (and yes, I can see why some people could even perceive it as the odour of a dirty ash tray). I can detect it pretty soon after application and it’s a bit odd, but not necesarily in a bad way. Just somehow unexpected (if you happen to be a passionate anti-smoker, I imagine this may drive you crazy). I would think that this fragrance might evolve differently on different people… On me – it’s OK, but not great.

I don’t know why this smell so much of tobacco on me but after dry down I find it very unpleasant. Rather like an ash tray. The start is pleasant sandlewood. But the dry down ruins it. I got a sample of this from Luckyscents and am glad I didn’t put any more money in it than that. It lasts a long time. I washed it off, finally.
