So I’ve been on a Rhubarb quest. Natural Rhubarb is a lightly-scented plant that doesn’t cast a mile-wide odorscape of easy recognition. Like ‘Amber’ or ‘Solar’, it falls into more of a fantasy-accord. As long as the fragrance community agrees on what it consists of, these are useful for communication.
The ‘Rhubarb’ that I’m seeking, is the combo of citrus x newsprint x Xerox copy paper x vetiver. It’s a note present and identifiable in Idyllwild, Flash Back, L’Art de la Guerre, Aedes de Venustas Signature, and CdG Sherbet Rhubarb.
It is not here, in Olivina Napa Valley Saint Bart Nomad, Grapefruit & Rhubarb. That said, this is a nice fragrance in its own right. It’s simply not the rhubarb that I’m looking for. What I get in Nomad, is a Citrus opening backed with Aquatic Floral and a dry down of Olibanum. This is similar on my skin, to Pacifica’s Lotus Garden. If LG’s olibanum is dialed up to a 6, then ONVSB Nomad is at a 2. In this way, it’s more to my liking.
2 folks have noted the resemblance to Tocca Brigitte, which was sickeningly sweet on my skin, and unwearable. It was given away after 1 test. I therefore wouldn’t classify this as similar to ONVSB Nomad; other than the marked similarity that *neither* of them had Rhubarb. 🙂 There’s little sweetness here, lending to a gender-neutral audience.
