Sable Or by Armani Privé is breathtakingly beautiful.
I think it’s probably the most beautiful perfume in my wardrobe and considering how large that it, that’s quite a bold statement.
The iris is of the best quality, buttery and rooty. It is the main player, the star of the show, supported by only a handful of shy violets and a solid base of benzoin, vanilla and what I think could be white chocolate. The whole composition is smooth as silk, dry to the touch, yet creamy, never too sweet and just a tad smoky. To me this scent is perfection and if I could I’d wear it over and over again but hélas my bottle is not bottomless. Still, I’m wearing and enjoying it rather than saving it for fear of running out.
P.S. If anyone knows of anything similar to Sable Or, please let me know. Or if you’re parting with your bottle, likewise. I’d love to get more of this perfect to me scent.

Starts off nice with the same doughy, starchy iris vibe of L’artisan Skin on Skin but where that one stays dry and suede-like with only a tinge of sweetness, Sable Or gets really, really heavy and sweet with vanilla and tonka. It’s a major pass for me as I hate sweet perfumes but it smells quality so worth a try for fans of iris and rich, heavy oriental vanilla.

It is definitely leaning towards feminine but marketed as a unisex, ok?!
Whatever Armani xD
But the most important thing, the smell is nice and a bit exotic yet one of the most easy-wearing Niches I have come across
More refined than DHI with a little bit thicker iris and the other gourmand notes are smooth and clean with vanilla and the cacao doing a good job
Not a classic becasue it is so heavy on the ‘thicker’ notes and not really signature worthy or a ‘comfort throw but it is good
Overall rating: 7/10

This fragrance is drop dead gorgeous ……if you are a fan of Iris and especially if you are a fan of Christian Dior Homme Intense. This is just much more complex/rich and shares some striking resemblance in that both contain a similar “lip stick” or makeup vibe. The performance is stellar. Literally, one or two sprays is more than enough and it lasts throughout my work day easily projecting enough to leave a scent trail for a solid 8 hours. The scent remains on clothing for days. Sable Or garners a lot of compliments and I never mention that unless it’s really the truth. Side note: I find that people over exaggerate the compliment factor (especially You Tube reviewers). From my experience, people do not generally speak up about someone’s fragrance. Now the description: Incredible dry, soft, so smooth, with a hint of sweetness (vanilla), powdery, and opulent. I also get a suede accord although suede is not listed in the notes. I think the violet, Iris, and benzoin work together producing that accord I am associating with “suede.” As of now, the fragrance is sold out and was discontinued. It was a limited edition scent sold exclusively at Selfridges London and sold for £550/100ml. Not easily attainable or affordable but nonetheless a gem worth owning if you are a fan of orris/iris!

What a beautiful perfume.Powdery, flowery smooth as silk. Vanilla, tonka, iris ,benzoin are wonderfully blended into a sweet cloud but never syrupy or overly so.This is one of the most beautiful new releases I have had the pleasure to smell.

Or and Fume is such an interesting duo. Or starts out with a defined flowery quality that is present but very very subdued. This is the more feminine one out of the two. The recognizable benzoin transparency is kept throughout the dry down, and the scent becomes more chewy almost like leather, an impression which I assume comes from a mastered blend of benzoin, bitter cacao and sandalwood. The vanilla here never turns sweet and is a bit smoky. I am very impressed by the way iris is used in Or. This is more of a Prada infusion d’Iris kind of iris rather than powdery, rooty iris that is quite popular now. As I sniff on a deep and less sparkly version of Iris Prima jumps to mind.
Overall it’s a very quiet but intriguing scent. Or is so natural and fleeting I hesitate to call it a perfume but more as wisps of benzoin smoke. Its price is astoundingly high: at $900 CAD a bottle I’m gonna stick with the good ol’ Id’I and Iris Prima, and keep my tester strip for as long as I can.
P.S. on evoking the texture of sand dune… Or’s too smooth for that unless we’re talking about Sahara’s finest grains of sand. I’d describe it as the supplest leather existed in time, or a very very thin satin veil covering the face of the most beautiful woman.

Evoking the silky texture of delicate sand dunes, ‘Sable Or’ conjures up a golden aura by way of the Concrète d’Iris Pallida Florentina. Initially one is struck with an overwhelming scent of pure orris butter. It is rich and warm, with a creamy tonality. Expertly it is blended with notes of vanilla, tonka bean, and cocoa. Together these continue the sumptuous and decadent theme wonderfully. Faint nuances of violet flower are noticeable and echo the facets of the powdery iris. Benzoin and bronzed sandalwood round out the fragrance with deeply smooth woody nuances and delicate smokey resins. The effect is quite simply breathtaking.
As an eau de parfum concentration, sillage and longevity are both superb. Of the two fragrances within this limited release collection from Armani /Privé, ‘Sable Or’ does tend to lean more feminine although is clearly a unisex offering. The scent is perfect for year round wearing, but I find it would be especially lovely in the autumn and winter months. Given its considerable price, clearly one may want to reserve this for special occasions only. Worn at night, one can only imagine the sensual imagery this scent may conjure up amongst those who fall prey to its seductive scent. Luxurious, beautiful and incredibly opulent, there are only 1000 bottles in existence, making it the height of couture perfumery.

What a beautiful creation. Both Sables made quite an impression on me. One of the few iris that I actually love. Like for Sable Fumé, everything is balanced and subtle. Light as a breeze, but a breeze full of subtle essences. Powdery, yes, but in a very light way and actually not that much sweetness… a mere suggestion. Resinous warmth & a delicate iris. That is to me the overall feel. I still prefer Sable Fumé for its mixture of resins, incense & orris, but chapeau to the nose!
What fascinates me with these two Sables is that they achieve lightness and at the same time making blends full of warmth and aroma with great longevity and discreet sillage. To me fragrances should always be like these. Subtle!

I have samples of this and of sable fume’. I find sable or sweeter and that the iris and violet notes are somewhat overwhelmed by the benzoin, sandlewood notes. Sable Fume’ is a real WOW factor perfume and I would buy a FB if my budget could afford it.
DenyyUSSR – :
This new Armani Privé Sable Or is an entirely different creation to Armani Privé’s Sable Fumé which is being released at the same time.
Instead of Sable Fumé’s smoky frankincense, the star of this show is a quite creamy iris with a tonka/vanilla/benzoin base. It begins with a recognisable (but clearly high quality) and intense iris which reminds me somewhat of Zegna’s Florentine Iris.
I do not detect any violet at all but the sandalwood and the tonka/vanilla/benzoin are clearly present which lends this an almost gourmand feel. Together these accords leave the impression somewhat of (not too sweet) white chocolate.
Although this may not be as ‘interesting’ as Sable Fumé this is a bit more my style of fragrance and I suspect that I will get more use out of this one; especially in cooler weather.
As expected the presentation of Sable Or is stunningly beautiful! The bottle is gorgeous and is wrapped and tied in an Armani fabric sheath. There is a small metal plate on the front of the bottle which I think resembles a sand dune swept by the wind.
Like all of Armani Les Éditions Couture releases this is limited to only 1000 bottles worldwide so if you are a collector grab it while you can.
