This rose is thick and syrupy and feels dipped in wine. As the name suggests Rose is the most prominent note, and yes it is dark, its not the fresh rose with fresh cut stems. It is a rose that has been blended with patchouli and oakmoss and besides the rose, these two are the notes that I get most. A very heady combination, especially if you are a rose lover. I personally love it and highly recommend it.

I like this uncommon rose/moss combo without turning old school or becoming dated. This is not noir by any means but it’s a beautiful rose scent for both genders suitable for fall, spring, day and night and for cool summer evenings.
I get dominant rose/moss, intensive labdanum, faint musk and mild grapefruit at the drydown.
It’s a long lasting scent which stays close to the skin most of its life. Sillage is moderate-average.

It is a good but not great fragrance as someone pointed that out before. I don’t very much like its opening but its dry down is nice. When I kept smelling on the testpaper after it settled, the image of a deadly seductive black rose growing freely on a deserted place suddenly came into my mind and it was later that I found out its name is rose noir. It is good smelling and versatile. But as what I have said before it is not special and unique enough considering the immense number of rose fragrances in the market. I would like to wear it especially in colder days for a darker and woody rose but I would probably not buy it as there are many other options for me in this brand.
In fact I suddenly found it a bit similar to La Fille de Berlin by Serge Lutens but it is darker, deeper and more woody than that. Besides, its rosy note is not as strong as that one though the feeling and image they give me are quite similar. Both a dangerously attractive rose seducing you to step closer and closer and confusing you with its incomparable beauty to make you unaware of the danger in front. It is very fortunate that I got La Fille de Berlin with me and I wrote the last paragraph smelling and comparing the two. Indeed they are similar albeit I prefer La Fille de Berlin to Rose Noir as it is a bolder and more feminine version.

If there was a Coco Noir eau de toilette (or eau legere) it would smell like this. Like it a lot. Lasting power is O.K.

Un discreto accordo esclusivamente femminile, estivo, diurno, frizzante e per nulla noir.
    Riecheggia odore di creme,lozioni,e tonico.
Lo vedo meglio in un flacone o tubetto rispetto ad una bottiglia di profumo.
    Generico.

Rose, mixed at first with something harsh and green/woody that smells like patchouli. But quickly it mellows into something resembling dry tobacco. There’s something tannic, like tea, and I agree with the other reviewer that noticed some henna (smells like decomposing grass clippings and marijuana). The smell that projects is a soft musky pink rose, but the smell on my arm is all the “noir” notes. Meh overall.

Nothing “noir” whatsoever. Very fresh, clean summery pink rose, yet rich. Reminds me a lot of Stella McCartney’s discontinued gem “In Two Peony”, just smoother and without all the pepperiness.
The rose note reminds me a bit of MFK’s glorious “Lumière Noire”, with LN being a gorgeous evening perfume, and Rose Noir (ehm, strange grammar here) more casual and relaxed.
Overall a very qualitative take on rose, deliciously smelling and strong.

To me this smells like cigarettes and dried rose petals.
Its a touch balsamic and I smell no musk.
    Smells very “noir”

The opening kids reminds me of tom ford noir de noir yet this one is not as sweet on me the dry down reminds me of a German seba soap bar which is basically the scent of my childhood, can still remember my dad smelling like the soap after shower while tucking me and my brother to bed
Finally bought it today love it

Byredo Rose Noir suggests “dark” in its name, but I don’t get much of that vibe from the fragrance itself. It’s an agreeable semi-fresh, semi-powdery rose-dominant scent with fresh grapefruit and freesia in the opening, drying down to a musky, slightly woody base.
It’s seemingly versatile (not that dark), so there’s value in that, and while it leans somewhat feminine, rose-loving men would have no trouble pulling this off, either.
It’s also a decent performer, walking the line between some of the weaker summer scents (i.e. the EDCs, BDA) and more powerhouse winter scents (i.e. 1996).
As with many of the house’s scents, though, Rose Noir falls into the “good but not great” category, very pleasant to smell and wear, and I’d wear it again sometime perhaps, but it moves the needle so little, particularly given the abundance of rose-dominant fragrances, that I wouldn’t give much further thought to buying it.

I tested several lovely perfumes from this house today and agonized over which one to buy.
Then as I was driving home, some 20 mins after spraying Rose Noir, I was more and more taken by this perfume. So much so I nearly turned the car around to go back to the store to exchange it for the Biblotheque I did buy, which is from Byredo too and one well worth checking out.
The opening on Rose Noir is very nice but the drydown is magnificent. To me it’s has an incensey undertone (as another reviewer below this gets too) and a gorgeous spicy rose medley that blends really well together.
    Can’t stop sniffing my wrist!
I’m going back to Mecca next week to buy myself a bottle!

Oooooh booooy!! The more I use it, the better it gets. The dry down is so freaking awsome. I don’t know what I am going to do when my 12ml decant is finished. Most probably I will buy a 100ml bottle. ;-P

Starts off with dominant rose smell, which is a bit sour and sharp, almost like if somebody mixed “Henna” with some beautiful rose and lime smell. The first 30 minutes is not the best part but as it dries down, it turns into a beautiful leathery smell (leather is not even a note here), which I adore. Really beautiful in the drydown.
    Scent: 9/10
    Longevity: 8/10
    Projection: 7/10

Compared to other rose fragrances from mancera, montale, Tiziana terenzi, this one starts very promising with dark rose but turns into some generic stuff that absolutely doesn’t justify its price tag.
It smells feminine in the dry down too.
I personally wouldn’t spend that much on this one, I would choose any rose perfume from the houses mentioned above instead of this. I even prefer Al rehab Moroccan rose to this one.

Rose noir is a great name for this scent
It’s all about rose in a earthy, woody, dark, rough, almost dirty base, moss, labdaniom and I even thought there is patchouli here
I love rose dominant scents because of roses sweet delicacy and powdery lushness but I can detect nothing delicate here..I also can’t detect any citrus freshness here, just a touch of acidic undertone that adds kind of sourness to the combination which I dislike..it’s a masculine rose in my point of view
Longevity and sillage are very good,as a feminine scent I dislike it but as a male scent it’s not bad, since it’s not that easy to find a masculine rose fragrance
    ❤❤
Edit: this one started to grow on me!
To be honest I like the dry down,it’s weird but I get top notes in dry down! I like it when freshness of grapefruit and some sweet musk, blends with rose and earthy notes and labdaniom fade..dry down can make a nice feminine noir rose scent,so my point changes to ❤❤❤

This is not exactly what I expect from the name “rose noir” as I can hardly get the rose scent, I mean the pure rose like what I use to smell in other perfumes. Nonetheless II should confess that it is very “noir”. It starts with sour citruses scent which quickly blends with earthy, woody notes. I think I get a strong incense note in this perfume, which surprisingly doesn’t exist. a mixture of woody, oriental notes are so mixed that the whole perfume smells somehow sour. This is exactly a unisex perfume, but honestly I find it proper for neither genders. It’s not annoying, but at the same time not sexy or something.

This smells like the the Chloe Intense I sold years ago and semi-regretted, but it’s even better! It’s that same gloomy day, musky, dewy white rose, with a retro vibe about it, but Rose Noir’s ingredients smell finer, and the perfume is more complex. I do smell the bright and fresh freesia in the top notes (it’s synthetic, but it’s there) and a surprising dollop of clover honey. Peeking out from the base is what smells like soil with decaying mosses in it. It conjures images of rose bushes in the dirt, yet it smells so elegant that one could wear it to a ball. I don’t find this scent to be “noir” but I also don’t find it to be fresh. More of a combo, as I sort of described, of fresh and decay at the same time. Lovely–and nothing like any boring rose soliflore. I no longer mourn the loss of Chloe Intense.

A dark atmospheric scent, moody and evocative of noir era repressed desires. Rose Noir is full-bloom roses at the height of their seductiveness. Camouflaged by mossy woods, held in check by an accord that is bitter but sweet – the sexual attraction of musk, disguised by sunlit lemon and the innocence of freesia. You can feel the constrainment. The top notes are bursting with passion, but as it dries down, they are confined by a more sedate blend that only lets the rose hint at its’ eroticism. Ultimately it conforms to the mores of the time, and becomes a pretty, powdery rose scent. Sillage moderate, longevity 5+ hours. Superior quality for an affaire de coeur.

Pungent chypre rose that has a surprising musty opening! One of my favourite roses.

  23. :

Man, I love this fragrance! Like with many fragrances, my body chemistry skips the top notes and go straight to embracing the mid and basenotes — I don’t mind that at all. This is so beautiful with the woody notes from the oakmoss blending in with the roses. There’s a little spice to it without spoiling the lushness of the roses. I like the originality of this blend. I’ve owned so many rose fragrances over the years and appreciate the direction this one takes instead of the typical pure floral path. The only negative thing I have to say is DAMN, it’s expensive! That said, I don’t regret splurging on this at all.

    I just smelled this today。nothing about ROSE,I find a harsh、orient smell dominating throughout the whole course,smell like anise。But I think it’s oakmoss+wood 。Smell so similarly to “SUNDAY COLOGNE”。So disappointed。

  25. :

A disappointing one-note floral on me. There is nothing “noir” about this, it is an unremarkable supermarket day rose that I’ve smelled on countless women before. It could be improved in various ways, but I prefer my rose to smell dark and frozen, like a botanical garden in January, and its flower’s cold sex.
The musk disappears at first spray, as it always does on my skin. One-dimensional, sad. Returned.

  26. :

The dominant mossy woods adds a masculine, musty contemporary edge to what could have been a pretty scent. Instead it feels seductive and haunting. I was a bit surprised when I first sampled this. I I feel the formulation has been tweaked a bit, since the pink liquid to the now clear liquid. It is definitely louder and mossier. It was quite green, but not a fresh one but a dirty patchouli like mossiness. Certainly isn’t girly and innocent.

  27. :

I don’t think it smells that great. The rose seems overdone. It’s drowning in chemicals and a lollipop candy smell. Maybe some shampoo? It just smeylls like a bitch.

Why haven’t they put up Rose of no mans land in the Byredo parfum list ?

  29. :

It’s amazing how we all perceive this differently. I definitely get the citrus and Fresia at the beginning. Makes it sparkly in my mind. There is a slight similarity to the Lalique mentioned but is quite remote. The oakmoss & labdunum then kicks in and must give a patch type feel that is a distant relative to the much more intense patch/pepper notes on perl. This is much more subtle but I get the comparisons. The rose is wrapped around all this and jumps up and shouts out every so often. I like it but not enough to justify the costs and its not all that unique

  30. :

    3 out of 5

I completely agree with Lily2911’s review of this Byredo misfire. I tested it twice to make sure I was giving myself enough time with the fragrance, and it’s definite– zero citrus in the opening, but plenty of smoky, myrrh-like rose.
Byredo’s Rose Noir is a very close relative to Lalique’s “Les Perles”, which I own, but less loud and less dense. Not unique in any way, especially since most houses are busy cranking out “Eastern”, smoky, oud inspired scents.
If looking for a sexy rose fragrance, pretty sad to tell you this is simply nowhere near it.

  31. :

I was so looking forward to loving this fragrance, the notes sounded delicious! It starts off very citrus-y on me, then the oakmoss slips in and gets a little too masculine for my taste. The rose and musk come in on drydown, but only last a short time, I can’t believe this is a perfume. It doesn’t last on me, even with cream under it. I’m glad I didn’t spend the money without testing it first, I was tempted to. It’s okay, but to me it’s missing a sweet component.

Common rose and oud perfume. Nice but not worth the price.

I received a small sample of this about a week ago. The thought of a dark rose scent intrigued me, but sadly I was disappointed. This doesn’t smell dark at all to me. It is a very standard rose scent, sort of fresh and a bit warm. I expected a lot more personality and originality from a scent from Byredo, but I find this to be very mundane and average in every way. It reminds of the way Taxfree Perfume Shops smell.
I gave it to a friend of mine, and she thought it smelled nice. She likes lighter and safe floral scents a lot more than I do. My taste in scents goes more in the direction of varm, spicy, intense, dark orientals with a base of wood, leather, amber, incense and vanilla. I didn’t detect any notes remotely similar on my skin when wearing “Rose Noir”.

  34. :

    3 out of 5

It is a nice rose but I also agree that I don’t recognize any citrus opening but more a spicy, peppery, patchouli scent. It is very close to other beauties as Lalique “Les Perles”, JHAG Lady Vengeance so if you are not keen to spend so much money on one bottle and like that kind of spicy rose, test first these 2 others because they are very close and less expensive than the Byredo version. So yes, it is a beautiful spicy rose perfume but unfortunately not that unique or creative, so not worth to spend that money. You can better save that money and buy another more creative perfume of the Byredo line.

ROSE NOIR impressed me with its delicateness and longevity.
First up, I am not usually a rose lover. I do not enjoy straight up roses (e.g. Tea Rose by Perfumer’s Workshop)or candied roses (e.g.Sa Majeste la Rose). In particular, I find patchouli roses challenging(e.g. Lady Vengeance) due to the musty/dirty undertone.
To my surprise, ROSE NOIR is a delightful, delicate, uplifting and extremely feminine fragrance. Being a non-Rose-lover, this seems to suggest ROSE NOIR is a worthy composition.
On my skin, ROSE NOIR smells like top notch rose petals preserved in a hard candy. The initial spray brings the delicious sweetness, followed by whiffs of delicate rose petals blooming on the skin. The scent is very smooth, quite sweet with some “ripe” quality abou it. I can’t quite put my finger on what is the “hard candy” effect, but it’s not really fruity. I do not detect any labdanum or oakmoss. I find ROSE NOIR rather linear, with average sillage and excllent longevity.
The comments I get are: soft (not weak), sweet, feminine and intimate. Everybody seemed to love it on me and giving positive comments.
I recommend this as a date night fragrance. It is the perfect mixture of subtle & seductive beauty.

Rose Noir starts off with a fruity lolly high, softening
to a sweet pink rose freshness, drying down to a musky
earthy darkness. A more feminine start with a masculine
finale. Buy some it is sublime, perfect.

My skintype and Rose Noir doesn’t get along at all. I love dark roses but here – its just a mess. If I spray on paper or on a jumper, its a wonderful, dark almost unisex rose-scent. But not for me.
Min hudtyp och Rose Noir funkar inte alls. Jag älskar mörka rostoner men här blir det bara en mörk gegga. Om jag sprejar på tyg eller papper så är den jättefin, mörk nästan lite unisex ros. Men den är inte för mig.

Vampy! Musty black rose, in the same sense of TF Black Violet.

  40. :

    4 out of 5

I smelled it from a manufacturer’s sample and I didn’t like it at all.
First of all, I’m unable to smell any citrus. Then, to me it’s a peppery rose, actually I can’t even smell rose very clearly in any phase, a quite harsh woody note exists too and it’s not an oakmoss (I would know, my stomach detects oakmoss right from the start). What to me is pepper, goes away after some time, then the scent calms down and becomes nicer (to me at least).
I expected something with a ‘wow’ effect like Paestum Rose by Eau d’ Italie but this one mostly reminds me of Parfum Sacre by Caron.
Unisex? Yes, it would be much more successeful as a man’s perfume.
I LOOOOVE rose scents, this one wasn’t exactly my thing.
    Try before you buy it.
    Please, don’t delete my review.

Sherapop is right. This juice is patchouly-like. Earthy, woody, mossy, grey. But there are a lot of other more interesting and complex stuff , this is sooooo boring!!!!!!! Somehow Rose Noir is an EMPTY fragrance to me. Just empty…… Does not worth the money.

To my nose, Byredo ROSE NOIR packs a powerful punch of patchouli. It’s really unmistakeable, and I am confused by the omission of this note from the official list offered above and at the house’s website. If this isn’t patchouli, then I must not know what patchouli is! Do cistus and moss combine to form a patchouli-like scent?
Well, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is that this “patchouli”-rose perfume smells beautiful. I’d rank it right up there with Heeley HIPPIE ROSE, although the rose is far less dominant here. That just makes this composition more unisex and probably wearable also by men. I’d have to do a side-by-side test in order to be able to decide between all of the high-quality, natural-smelling, niche patchouli rose perfumes currently available, including Frédéric Malle PORTRAIT OF A LADY and Juliette Has a Gun VENGEANCE EXTREME, but this one is definitely in the running.
I myself do not find this perfume very dirty, as it has been marketed. To me this composition presents a clean darkness. ROSE NOIR does not smell animalic to me in the least. Maybe a bit like the soil clinging to the roots of a patchouli plant, but not a touch of skank is present here, according to my nose. ROSE NOIR is earthy in the way that L’Artisan Parfumeur VOLEUR DE ROSES is earthy, and I do think that this would make a fine choice for guys as well as gals.
ROSE NOIR is my favorite of the creations of the house of Byredo which I’ve tested so far… Excellent longevity, too, and it actually becomes stronger over the course of the day. I’d call this one parfum/extrait strength, given its projection and heft.

Considering the outrageous cost of this, I was fully expecting to be blown away. Don’t get me wrong, it is pleasant enough, even though it smells exactly like Bnd No. 9 Bryant Park, which I prefer over this. It seems to be a watered down version. I got a 3.4 oz size on the Bay for a great reduced price. I will use it, but definitely won’t repurchase.

A soon as I smelled this one, I stopped in my tracks and felt quite emotional. Weird. But good weird. I wear the Chembur, haven’t purchased this one yet. Considering. It is sexy as hell. The only rose scent I have ever been drawn to. Love.A dirty kind of rose. But different than Tom Ford’s Cafe Rose.

This is a really interesting scent in my opinion. I have a very small vial of this, I ordered a sample set of ten of Byredo’s fragrances. I think they are all works of art, especially Gypsy Water and Pulp. But Rose Noir just suits me. I feel that this isn’t one to apply lightly-otherwise it just turns too earthy too quickly. When I spilled some on my hand one time, it smelled like a doll I used to have when I was little. It had this overwhelmingly plastic-y sweet floral odor. On me, it’s both completely charming and unnerving at the same time. It has a lot of personality and sophistication for such a ‘simple’ fragrance. It’s not Chanel No. 5 or the latest Prada vomit, but it lives up to those fragrances presence-wise. The nice thing about Byredo is that they use very fine ingredients, so all of their perfumes smell as expensive as they are. It’s overall very nice and one of my favorite rose scents of all time.

I tried this at the Barney’s counter a month or so ago and really enjoyed it. I collected a sample and wore it for a full day. I enjoyed the scent a ton throughout the day, but the dry-down lasts FOREVER and gets some oddly chemical note to it. It was on my wrists and the scent actually woke me up during the night on more than one occasion worrying about some mechanical system malfunction in the house. It wasn’t oily or smokey or anything per se, but it was just weird and synthetic. I would have rated this a “like” if it didn’t have this weird ultra-lingering dry-down that literally kinda scared me!

Very, very similar to Guerlain Elixir Charnel Chypre Fatal and I like that one. Modern chypre rather then woody musky. If you want strong musky rose look for L`Arte di Gucci EdP.

This perfume is so sophisticated and beautiful. I’m generally not a fan of floral perfumes, particularly with strong rose notes, as they smell too “old lady” and powdery but Rose Noir took me by surprise. The rose smells quite sweet and citrusy, almost like rose turkish delight (but not that syrupy) with a slight spiciness. It’s quite modern in that sense whilst still retaining a very classic rose quality. As the perfume dries a beautiful warm wood note comes through that is probably the most feminine I’ve ever smelt in a wood perfume. Overall a wonderful perfume for a sophisticated woman that is also very attractive for men- as my male friends testify to!

This pretty one made me laugh. 😀 Throughout the whole opening phase it smells like a bottled small nothern german stationery store! Precisely like one I occasionally go to! Ha, incredible.
Now as this won’t help too much, this phase reminds me of wood, lots of paper, the earthy little garden behind the house and the rich green shop decoration.
When it dries down it changes noticably on my skin, looses some of this shop flair and turns more flowery, rosey, earthy until it fades to a (n imo not overly appealing) thin flowery sweet scent I can’t really identify, maybe that is the freesia.
Not crazy about the last stage on my skin but I’m glad I have a sample of this interesting (cute small-town stationery store :D) fragrance.

This one is very jammy on me, and slightly boozy, which is always nice in a rose scent. I don’t get many of the base notes, which are supposed to include oakmoss and cistus. A bright, jammy rose. Very pretty

A bit of obnoxious sour rose , thin instead of rich, with an acidic citrus note and some warmth from the freesia note. I like many rose fragrances but not this one.
