Description

“I made this creation using all the materials I love the most…everything about this fragrance is very personal including its presentation. For the case, I could think of no colour more luxurious then white as it is the most fragile of colours. The gold leaf within the fragrance alludes to my love of gold but also serves as a reminder that the amber liquid – ‘the juice’ – is in fact rarer, more precious, more expensive than gold will ever be. The amber colour of the fragrance is a result of the finest quality natural ingredients; it makes me think of rare coloured diamonds. I like to think of ROJA Haute Luxe as a liquid jewel.”

“Formulated without reference to cost, ROJA Haute Luxe is a perfume created using each of the ingredients Roja loves most to build a deep, rich, resinous chypré that is quite simply the world’s most exquisite Haute Luxe parfum; a fragrance of rarity, refined perfection and unrivalled beauty.”

Roja by Roja Dove is a Chypre Floral fragrance for women and men. This is a new fragrance. Roja was launched in 2013. Top note is bergamot; middle notes are rose de mai, jasmine and ylang-ylang; base notes are ginger, cloves, cinnamon, oakmoss, vetiver, patchouli, cedar, amyris, vanilla, iris, benzoin, amber, labdanum and styrax.

Roja Haute Luxe is certainly a unique fragrance that manages to accurately capture the smell of a Middle Eastern spice cabinet.
Upon opening the $30 0.7ml sample from Luckscent it smelled almost immediately of strong, sickly sweet incense, with a hint of ginger and toast (I may have been having a small stroke due to the price-tag but still, I could smell toast)
By no means was it a ‘bad’ fragrance – quality wise I would doubt there is a fragrance that uses higher quality ingredients, but, just because they are expensive and/or of high quality doesn’t mean they work harmoniously together. The incense kills all middle and top notes pretty much instantly and doesn’t give any of the floral base notes much chance to shine.
Finally, the controversial pricing, at $4,000+ for a 100ml I doubt, even if I found a person who thought it’s the greatest perfume ever, would agree on $400, let alone $4,000. You are paying for the privilege of saying “I wear a $4k perfume”, which may be great for Rappers and lotto winners, but for anyone who actually cares about the smell, not the price, you can save yourself $3,900 and find an good quality incense based perfume.
In my opinion, Roja Haute Luxe is a solid 6.5/10

SOTD- Nothing special, an average spicy scent, I cant believe the price of this, even if I had the money I would rather buy bottles of all my top 10 fav scents as bottles. really disappointed- 5/10 considering the price- if you like old fashioned fragrances, it may well be your thing but its never worth the money

A rather common (despite its uncommonly high price) floral chypre with specks of thin gold in it to justify its huge price tag. The perfume follows a very typical chypre style opening with a note of citrus, moving to a floral middle comprised of rose, ylang-ylang and jasmine and settling on a mossy powdery base of oakmoss, amber, labdanum, styrax, benzoin, vanilla, iris, cinnamon, nutmeg, patchouli, amyris and labdanum. The perfume is blended well, has a moderate to strong sillage and projection and good longevity. It can be classified as a unisex and leans slight feminine given the floral notes. Sadly I must be candid here: with the exception of the gold flakes there is nothing in this composition to justify the $3500 price tag. It will be a nice curiosity though and you may wish to avail a sample to satisfy your curiosity. Only recommended for those who want to showcase their spending power and even those will be most likely to be secretly unhappy about its cost value ratio. This is a really common modern floral chypre. Enjoy!

The kind of fragrance my Mother would have spritzed on her handkerchief and put in the crocodile purse that my Uncle brought her back from Cuba. It is the kind of scent you would have expected a well dressed woman of days gone by to wear – Worn when a woman would never leave her house without stockings, a slip, hat & gloves and Tangee lipstick. It is a bit out of the league of my fragrance taste, but I enjoy opening up the small $30 sample that I purchased from Luckyscent and occasionally taking a whiff.

When I am sharing my impressions for particular fragrance the most important part always is about the scent itself, its smell. For me the presentation of the fragrance is not so important, amazing bottle with bad juice inside will not catch my attention at all while the opposite happens very often. I will not wear the box or the bottle of my neck 🙂 When we are discussing Roja Dove creations, many people are speaking equally or even more about the price than to anything else. It’s normal and I accept that but to a point. Yes, we have high expectations considering the price level but this shouldn’t affect our perceptions. Considering all mentioned above, I’ll not speak about the box, bottle or cap. Nor I’ll make a dissection of the juice note by note. Rather my idea is to share with you what the smell evokes for me.
The very first time I tested it on my skin a month ago all together with many other Roja Dove perfumes. What to tell you, I fall in love from the first sniff… The feel of luxury and sensuality has never been so natural, sophisticated, provocative,”old money” and contemporary at the same time. I was amazed and couldn’t stop sniffing my arm like a dog during the rest of the day. On the next day, I bought it without any hesitation. No other perfume evokes such feelings like this one. Its refined animalic aspects gently pushing some hidden primitive parts of the soul, simply can’t describe this better, you have to test it to understand. What I like about the perfumes as a whole are the images they create in my mind. In this case, they were of very sophisticated erotic, like an image of the well-dressed self-confident woman with deep sensual aura. Everybody is looking at her with the mix of admiration and desire and you simply know she will smell exactly like Roja Haute Luxe.

Personally I really don’t see the hype. Sure the quality is there and it has strong projection, maybe a bit too strong. Longevity is EXCELLENT. But it smells slightly on the feminine side. I was wearing a complimentary sample and three people that smelled it on me didn’t like it whatsoever. Two of them thought it smelled like something an elderly lady would wear.
While I don’t absolutely hate it, there has been an instance when I became annoyed by it the longer I smelled it on myself. Having said that – I still feel privileged to have had the opportunity to have a sample and can appreciate the quality.

Ive sampled this for a couple of days now. I find it hard to pick out the exact notes of this. Oakmoss and ginger-ish id say but that description alone does not give it justice. For about 1-2 hours after spraying this on its really really really really good. After 3+ hours i can’t smell the most attractive notes of the perfume. The smell is versatile and pleasant and very unique.
If you can afford a sample then try it out. Found a 1ml sample for 30 dollars on ebay. Worth it for the experience or to save for a few special occasions. Probably not a every-day-perfume because of its price.
Disregarding the price its a 5/5

Wait, this is really $3500? 🙂
He didn’t make this for himself, in fact he didn’t make it at all. He’s a marketer, plain and simple. He had a perfumer make a nice perfume for rich people who want to feel rich.
    Enjoy.

, i recieved my sample today
Its a very beautiful smell, well crafted, well balanced,
But unfortunately, i would never ever buy it, WHY?
First of all, the price is unbelievably high, its delusional
I really want to understand now the following, me being a perfumer myself,
    Little by little lets calculate
    So breakdown of constituents
Mayflower, Jasmine from Grasse, ambergris (thats the expensive stuff- assuming they are not just fragrance oils bought from Givaudan)
Other stuff ( cinammon, vanilla, amyris, styrax, benzoin, patchouli, clove, cedarwood, ginger, oakmoss, orris, labdanum- all in the ranges of 10 USD per 10 ml)
How can anybody justify 3500 USD???!!!!
The thing is its typical Chypre, zillions of others perfumes are very very similar,
If it has real OUD like Ensar for example, i couldve said, ooooh
    Expensive stuff,
But when things are advertised to be made of the Best and most expensive natural stuff, i would need somebody to protect me as a customer by citing the “naturalness” and with all openness
If you want to buy a perfume that is 100 times better,
Go for Initio Parfums Prives, Blessed Baraka
Only 200 USD and smells much much better
    No shit
    People can be fooled

What is your favorite sport/league to watch? ; NFL , NBA OR UEFA Champions League. You name it!!. if you know any of the mentioned leagues I bet you that you’ve watched couple of the most sensational moments and highlights in compiled fast pace video in YouTube.
well that’s been said , i strongly believe that ROJA HAUTE LUXE Parfum delivers an aroma that i would like to describe as the olfactory compilation of the most beautiful/legendary scents in the the 20th century. and I’m talking here about Mitsuoko , L’heure blu , Shalimar , Chanel No.5 , Cuir de russie, Tabac Blond and the list goes on and on….
    It’s a beautiful and not easy to describe scent , soapy/powdery ; mildly sweet/flowery and leathery/chypre.
it hits multi angles on the olfactory wheel to generate a scent of LUXURY.
the performance is absolutely great , lasts so long and projects softly to fill the space around you.
I’ve been sampling it for 2 weeks so far and thinking wisely if its a bottle worthy or not , as the price tag is no joke can get you bankrupt LOL!!.
    Cheers.

My friend has a decant of this and wore it around me to blind test my reaction. He didn’t get the reaction he wanted unfortunately. He asked me what I thought of his fragrance and when I told him he simply smelled like an old man he was appalled. It didn’t smell good to me at all. I couldn’t believe it when he told me this costs $3,500. Being that it’s not very appealing I’d say this is a huge rip off.

I am new to the Fragrantica online community, I am looking forward to trying Roja Haute Luxe and have researched it. I have some interesting evolved thought provoking ideas/questions.
—:For those that shallowly possibly impulsively fall into the perception that Roja Doves creations are “Expensive” allow me to present a few ideas that maybe defuse and demystify that possible misconception.
When a 7.5ml (Approx 1/4 oz) Discovery atomizer ie popular fragrances from the line etc…: In its number of sprays, meets a Microsoft calculator /division/ what happens to perceptions of price in relation to comparison to other forms of (common denominator) entertainment/self actualization activities of all kinds, including for example sake:
move tickets I-max block buster, double pepperoni pizza, concert tickets celebrity show, sporting event tickets playoffs etc…
As I previously mentioned when a calculator lays eyes on one of Rojas popular fragrances as several hr long on skin experiences???? And the two dance the excel spread sheet tango I have a feeling it ends in a Good Night Kiss. Roja Perfume experiences are subjectively arguably quite cost effective for a world class product and that high price, other than
    –Initial investment (dynamic)(true!)
Is at lest a mild misconception. Personally just from looking at Roja Dove interviews I think that ultimately his legitimacy, quality and insight to create a world class product is likely incredible!
Ps. I look forward to learning more interacting and sharing ideas on this online Fragrantica community.

This stuff is insane! Seriously, it’s off the charts good. And no I’m not brainwashed by the price. I’m speaking strictly of the scent itself. I know someone who drove an hour each way once a week to spray this on from the tester. Now I know why. I have a 7.5 ml travel size of this and it’s basically the Hope Diamond to me. Anyone who owns a full bottle of this is insanely lucky. I hate all of y’all lol. Just kidding, I’m happy for you but I am extremely envious! Jeez!
To me it’s like Tabac Blond meets Mitsouko with some Guet-Apens and something else I can’t place. If you know how good those are, imagine them combined. This is eyes rolling back in your head material. It’s insanity! I don’t even know how anything can smell this good. Roja Haute Luxe is as much oriental as it is chypre and it is smooth as silk. It’s so seamless it’s hard to even pick out notes. It is one of those fragrances that is a “whole” sum of its parts and you don’t really think about individual notes.
All I know is I’m buying lotto tickets every day for the rest of my life because I want this so bad. And I am going to start selling off all my “likes” and “low range loves” for the next year or two (I have a lot) and I WILL buy this. Or at least replace my travel size one each time it runs out. It’s that good. It’s utter perfection. I wanted to say “it’s okay” because of the price but my mama didn’t raise a liar lol. It’s 32 stars out of 10. I can’t believe I am actually considering saving for years to buy a bottle of perfume….but I am.
Does Roja have an installment plan? Will a mortgage company finance this? Can I sell a lung or a kidney? Anyone need a limb? I have 3 extras. Call me.

I can care less about the over-the-top packaing/gold in liquid, unique molecular oakmoss extraction…whatever you call it, but there’s no denying how beautiful this stuff is! If you love Chypres this one is as good as it gets, lush florals, exuberant spices and a great oakmoss note orchestrated into utter perfection. True Chypre fans need to experience this at least once!

It gives me the greatest pleasure today to introduce ROJA DOVE’s top creation. This treasure is Haute Luxe which is definitely his best creation by far. If ever having the opportunity, please smell this fragrance. I really can’t think of anything that can even come close to comparing with this gem

Just a point of information, re GenuineR30’s comment on the gold leaf: the gold is not, in fact, the most expensive ingredient in there; Roja put it in to make the point that the gold is the least expensive ingredient in there.
And you can tell. There is something at once unique and yet traditional about this scent: it is vaguely reminiscent of so many classic chrypres, and yet manages a depth and a complexity that is momentarily shocking. But it is a complexity worn lightly. There is no confusion here, nor yet oppression; the nose is led like a willing companion through an olfactory exploration. The notes are supremely well balanced, too: each note is afforded time without any being overbearing or aggressive. The bergamot is soft and inviting, rather than sharp, just as the styrax lends gentle support without any offending element. This is not, for example, like Bogue’s MAAI, which is like a wild cat of a chypre (astonishingly beautiful, mind, but much more dangerous).
In short, this is exquisite. At £2,500, is it worth it? Is it worth the sum total of nearly ten of his other frags? While of course the answer will come down to personal taste and thus will be one of degree rather than binary—and I’m sure that part of the price is to prevent ubiquity—for me this absolutely is. You can immediately tell the quality, even when compared with other scents in the Roja line (which is not a line known for shirking on quality), and, above all, it will make you close your eyes, be still, and smile. A lot.
(I should point out that I initially smelled this—without being told what it was—amongst a bunch of other Rojas frags, and my reaction was as described, so it wasn’t some fop to the price-tag).

Finally I bought a sample of this perfume that has intrigued me for a long time.I love this house because I love vintage perfumes and these have an appealing vintage vibe.
I find Roja more an oriental than chypre perfume. It is a very rich, deep ,resinous and syrapy sweet perfume. As soon as I applied it on my wrist it reminded me of another perfume and it wasn’t Mitsouko , as several reviewers
have mentioned. To me,this smells very similar to Guerlain Attrape Coeur/Guet Apens,at least the first part ,I like the drydown of Roja better as it is less sweet. This is a perfume of undoubted high quality with a very good sillage and it lasted 6-8 hours on my skin with traces left in the morning.I am glad that I had the opportunity to try it but this is not something that I yearn for any more.

Every time you’re about to embark on a journey with one of Roja Dove’s potions, you know its going to be quality. This stuff is quality! This scent is sweet, powdery, gingery with slight spiciness to it. Despite how prominent this scent is, I don’t find it to be that original or earth-shattering but it truly is a work of art.
I’ve always said, a good scent is a good scent, price is irrelevant. However, in this particular case, the 24k gold shavings are completely unnecessary and they don’t make this scent smell any better. I understand that, Roja, uses the purest of and most precious fragrance oils in his perfumery which constitutes a higher price tag, but he’s lost me on the concept of the gold. Why even market the stuff at that price when the most expensive ingredient in it is the gold and you can’t even smell it? Its the man’s signature scent, obviously he doesn’t want it to be easily obtainable.
All in all, its a sexy, well blended, quality juice. My advice to the wearer: cooler months fall/winter, day or night. After you use up the bottle take out the gold leaf and bring them to your local jeweler and see if they can mold you a pair of gold studded earrings for your girlfriend or wife.
Longevity 8/10 You will smell it all day but it does soften after 8 hours especially on a hot day
Projection 10/10 you will be smelled when you enter a room or when walking by people

    Hell yeah!
Honestly the best perfume I have smelt. I had the privilege to spray it on in harrods and unknowingly got it onto my wool coat. Hands down the best. It lasted over a 2 months on my coat sleeve, as of it was haunting me telling me to go get it. I was fully convinced and connoted to spend flipping £2500 on it. Then I found Mitsouko…
    So I’ll wait now

If I could afford it I would have bought it the other day alongside Reckless and Amber Aoud. I will admit to having had a bit of an involuntary cry when I smelled these(yes, I found them THAT stunning, but that is purely MY taste and perception).
The fragrance uses most, if not all of my favorite ingredients in the heart and base so it is no real surprise that I reacted in the way that I did. I found it to be B.A.Yew.T.Full. Blended wonderfully.

Remember the film (and book) “Perfume” (by Patrick Suesskind) when the protagonist (the murderer) charged with murder, standing before the guillotine, unfolds his silk pochette (that he doused earlier with his magic potion), and sends his magic creation into the air. Suddenly time stops and people are fainting. They are falling in love and they are making love.
    THIS fragrance creates THAT MOMENT.
MASTERPIECE. The Holy Grail. Full Stop.

Guessing it was also created without regard for IFRA prohibitions on oakmoss and other ingredients that used to make fragrances like this common. Which suggests that as global populations explode and resources grow scarcer the 1% are setting rules for everybody else to ensure their own access to basic luxuries remains unimpeded. A modern interpretation of enclosing the commons.

CHYPRÉ – WARM & DRY, RICH, SOFT, SPICY, POWDERY & SENSUAL.
I would have to add exquisite.
Fragrances like this are the reason perfumery is the 8th art.
Perfectly balanced chypre with an old fashion structure and modern approach. Spicy and woody with a floral heart on ambery – labdanum – benzoin base with a light powdery touch.
Complex and multifaceted. It touches perfection. And it proves Roja’s admiration for Mitsouko.
    Great sillage and longevity.

A very very beautiful scent, enigmatic, profound, it tells such personal stories, nuanced with each breath you take. Melancholic though witty, introverted yet very eloquent it is a beautiful creation which to my nose dances around a theme played on iris and orris, though changing as each second passes. It is extravagantly priced and packaged its true, and that is entirely the point. It has been created as something very precious, an extreme expression of luxury. So for goodness sake of course it is expensive. Much the same way Joy was conceived : the zenith of what money can buy, using the very best of the best ingredients, and available only to those people privileged enough to enjoy it. It is not fair of us to condemn or begrudge privelidged people their privelidge, and these very commodities are what we covet of them and aspire to share in. You know if ever you encounter this scent that you are somewhere very very special or with someone who isn’t your run of the mill pedestrian joe bloggs. It would be lovely if such quality ingredients were available to the masses and could be bought in the high street but that’s unrealistic and the creation of these new extreme luxury items will dictate future trends and fashions and shape the very future of perfumery. Or, they will remain so exclusive that they will simply come and go but when they do make a public appearance, their presence graces that event with the mark of a very special occasion. This is a wonderful, magnificent creation – the signature scent of a leader in his field of study – and whomever has the rare experience of enjoying it on the wind is lucky and yes priveledged whether or not you can afford your own bottle or not. Even if only in a superficial way, the world is a better place for the existence of this wonderful creation and if you ever get to experience it you are very lucky indeed.

BEFORE I WRITE MY POSITIVE REVIEW ABOUT THIS STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL PERFUME.
I would like to say a little about list of ingredients: although I have put down iris as being very intense, it is infact ORRIS not Iris.
There is also real ambergris in this scent which is very intensive and lasts all day.

…”rarity, refined perfection and unrivalled beauty”… I have to agree with that and everything else written in the description.
I feel extremely privileged to have met Roja and have had the opportunity to appreciate all his fragrances. Should you be able to afford his beautiful perfume or are willing to buy it, that in my opinion is great. However, if someone buys it for you, that is even better :o)
