Description
Jo Malone launches its new fragrance collection Rock The Ages in early 2015. The collection is limited and available from March 2015. The aim of the collection was to depict different periods of British history through the inspiration of drama, atmosphere and characters of each of the periods. The collection contains the following scents: Tudor Rose & Amber, Lily of the Valley & Ivy, Geranium & Verbena, Pomegranate Noir (reissued) and Birch & Black Pepper.
Lily of the Valley & Ivy is inspired by the Georgian era of pastel tenderness, green landscapes, gardens and ivy-covered fences. The fragrance opens with green ivy, pink grapefruit and sparkling black currant, with delicate floral heart of lily-of-the-valley and narcissus and the base of beeswax, amber wood and white musk.
The fragrances are available in bottles of 30 ml.
The nose behind this fragrance is Christine Nagel.

I bought this hoping for a true lily of the valley, tinged with the freshness of ivy leaves. On me, this is a very powdery lotv scent. Nice, but I won’t miss it when it is gone.

Lily of the Valley & Ivy by Jo Malone is a such a novel scent! It’s a bit odd the way it starts out smelling very green and a bit minty with the ivy note. As it softens you smell a tad of the grapefruit blending with the lily of the valley. The dry down gets surprisingly sweet with the powdery musk, amber and…beeswax? Yes! Beeswax! There is a distinct honey-waxy note that laces itself throughout this fragrance. It is incredibly unique and very English heritage smelling that I think it fits perfectly in the Rock the Ages fragrance collection!

I adore lily-of-the-valley but I don’t love powder, so I’m always on the lookout for a LOTV scent that isn’t powdery or too soapy. Lily of the Valley and Ivy is lovely! It is very green, which I like, with just enough citrus in the opening to give it zest (I don’t really smell the black currant, mostly the grapefruit and even that is light). Of course, it has a strong lily of the valley heart, which persists for a long time. The musk base note is evident at the same time as the LOTV, which warms it up together with the amber.
Here’s the surprising part: I put this on before going to bed as I was going to read for a while and enjoy it. When I woke up eight hours later, I could still smell the musk and amber on my wrist, with a lingering note of greenness. Normally I think of Jo Malone fragrances as not lasting that long, especially a fresh floral like this one. What a pleasant way to be proven wrong!
And this may be sacrilegious, but I like the dry down of Lily of the Valley and Ivy much more than I liked the dry down of the Diorissimo eau de parfum, which seems to have suffered from synthetic civet. On my skin, that turned slightly urinous after a few hours and I finally just washed it off. Luckily for me, I now have alternatives like this lovely Jo Malone. I’m also trying Diorissimo EDT and parfum, which I learned are based on the original formula though updated to meet modern IFRA requirements.

So, let me just state this: I really really love Jo Malone, and her line is my all time favorite.
Moving forward let me explain why I’m totally disappointed in this fragrance.
When I first discovered that there was a limited edition rock of ages line, and that one of the fragrances was Lilly of the Valley, I nearly fainted. You mean to tell me my all time favorite perfume company is making my all time favorite flower; next to the Gardenia… which we won’t talk about that since it was discontinued before I discovered JM.
So, my 30th birthday was coming up, and I wanted my perfume. I had to wait till I got my birthday money since JM is pricey, but reasonable. A few days after my birthday I went to the mall after work to buy my perfume. I had already the pre-notion that I was going to love love love this perfume no doubt about that.
I nearly ran to the JM counter. I picked up the perfume thinking it was going to smell like a hill covered in LOTV….wrong!! it smelled more like green, and not like LOTV at all. Not to mention it wasn’t that strong, more like a watered down fragrance you would buy at drug store. Now, I know not every company cannot always hit the nail directly on the head, and there is allowed errors for sure.
I remorselessly bought Wild Bluebelle, which has LOTV undertones which is nice.

This smells actually very nice, it is green and uplifting, it has a certain spiciness mixed in with a creamy edge…this is quite an unusual scent, yet I feel it reminds me of a face cream or something like that!? i prefer the top notes but in the drydown I kind of think it smells weird to my nose, as the beeswax isn’t my favorite note., but this is definitely an intriguing Malone creation!! A spicy floral with a certain freshness…nice for summer..

This is my favourite out of this new limited edition collection. I love green scents but this is also musky which I’m addicted to. I’m buying a back up bottle of this and hope one day Jo Malone releases 100ml bottle or makes it part of the permanent range. Very unique fragrance, there is nothing else I have tried like it and mixes well with Wild fig and cassis and Also another favourite of mine, wood sage and sea salt which also has musk notes… Great together! amazing!!!

I love this, it’s a warm, delicate, ultra-feminine green floral but with depth.
Opens with a blast of Lily of the Valley but quickly (within 5 minutes) develops into a fuller-bodied floral. To my nose I got some rose (no grapefruit or blackcurrant) in those first few minutes too.
I don’t smell the ivy but there is something giving it a more mellow, softer, greener edge, so perhaps its that or possibly the musk mentioned in the notes.
I don’t detect the musk yet but there is something slightly powdery grounding the light florals, giving it a very well-rounded feel.
I would say this is an easy-to-wear scent, reminiscent of spring and summer (it puts me in mind of the garden of a stately home in high summer) though I would wear it all year round.
It reminds me very vaguely of J’adore but far less harsh and in your face, this one whispers rather than shouts.
A perfect composition and a must-have if you’re a fan of feminine florals.

I tested this today and I loved it at first spritz. On me it is a green floral. I nearly bought it just then (they are pre-selling in at Nordstroms) I am glad I waited for the dry down. On me it drys down to a slightly powdery (maybe it is musk) green scent. I like it but don’t love it and have to have it if you know what I mean. The longevity isn’t as long as I would hope. I do love it though I would say a 7 out of 10 but to be fair the 10 in my mind is the unicorn I have never found.

I would have never guessed that I love this , from the name judging ,,, yet I do and thinking of maybe getting it ,,, it’s a sweet bright warm musky one. I couldn’t believe it when I first smelled it. It’s like musky and animaic ,,,so to say.
As the words say it does start off floral and maybe a little citrus and a touch green but you smell the depth right of the bat ,,, musky amber , animaic comes through which makes it warm and interesting and a spots sniffer!! Sort of addictive ! Lasting power not as long as I would want it to be. I will test again to see before I decide to get it.
