Tonybarloe, definetly men can wear Red, with right attitude anyone can wear what they want. This could be great when weather turns cooler.

It’s mostly cherries and cinnamon – smells like a Jawbreaker fireball! 😉

Guys Do you think that this fragrance could be unisex? That notes look tempting

I wore this back in 1991/92 when I was 18 and going to the club (I’m from Louisiana and back then the legal drinking age/nightclub age was 18). I loved it’s definite and lasting presence. I never felt as though my perfume had worn off when wearing Red. In fact, after many nights out, coming home and falling into bed, I could definitely still smell it on myself the next morning. I haven’t had a fragrance since that has lasting power like this one!

I’ve been wearing this fragrance since 1989 when it was released, I was 18 and was a sales associate at Bullock’s Downtown, in Los Angeles. I simply purchased it because I loved the way it smelled. I remember one of my first lunch breaks after wearing it, I went into a fast food place and the guy behind the counter was like “what do you have on?”. At that point, I knew that this fragrance was special and I would be wearing it for life. I have now been wearing this fragrance for close to 30 years and I love wearing it as if it were the first day I put it on.

I remember wearing this around 1992/1993 when I was about 19 or 20. I loved it so much, it was pretty much my signature scent for those years. To me it smelled like oranges and sex.

sweet, spicy and oakmoss; carnation, ylang, aldehydes, oakmoss, tuberose, hint of cherry but not fruity, myrrh and sandalwood and amber in the base; a sweet spicy mossy floral; this fragrance is not carnation intense and NOTHING like Red Moscow. This is just a spicy, sweet, mossy floral. Red Moscow is all carnation bliss with no oakmoss or sweetness. If they are similar because they are spicy, then okay.

WELCOME BACK TO MY LIFE RED! Just got it today at Ross (sister store to TJ Maxx) for $14.99. What a far cry from the big price in the 80’s when my parents had to buy this for me and my sister.
This is a rekindled love with this perfume. I haven’t had it in over 20 years easily and now I’m in love again, as if it’s the first time I’m wearing this all over again! Happy giddy love!
It’s still a powerhouse perfume and I love it for that! Same notes and that same beautiful, gorgeous and sultry fragrance I always remembered.
I definitely recommend this scent only if you can handle a strongish fragrance…definitely not for the faint of heart. The dry down is still spectacular and I have to say, on me, it’s soft and still the holds the same smell….I don’t smell fluctuations in the quality or the notes at all – at least on me.
I also have to say my 14 year daughter likes it too!!!! Usually she likes the sweet scents that are out there, but she surprises me now and then: she loves Boucheron (original) and now this 🙂
So young girls give it a try too, you never know – you may stand out in the crowd! 🙂

Red reminds me of beautiful actress Marilu Henner. With her red hair and pale blue eyes. I remember watching her show Evening Shade with Burton Reynolds and thinking. Gee what a beautiful woman! This perfume is bold in it’s appearance, with the heavy hitters like oak moss, osthamus, carnation and myhrr. But underneath it all, it’s very feminine, beguiling and elegant. A big love!

I gave this one away, as it wasn’t for me after all. I kind of liked the scent and it DID perform very well for an inexpensive Edt, great sillage and lasting power! Strong, spicy, sweet, classically “perfumey”. But there was something maybe a little too masculine in it and it is a little dated too. The latter I don’t mind usually and I knew to be expecting this. Still, I could’t seem to have enough proper occasions to wear a perfume like this. It’s not an everyday kind of scent for me.

    This fragrance is simply sublime.
A very good take on the colour red….lends itself to a richness, the myrrh, the rose, the woods, the oakmoss, the tonka and osmanthus…. is everything I desired in a fragrance. It makes an impact with the spiciness in me – red! sangre! heat! spice and resin! and the bottle is astute, like “here I am Odette. I am for you too!”
The ONLY thing that restrained me from buying one off the bat was a familiarity with Kimmora Lee Simmonds “Seductive Goddess,” which I have in my olfactory arsenal. So then I figured I could use that and leave buying this for a little later. However, I hope it does not disappear off the shelves while still on my ‘to buy list’ I HATE it when that happens.
An active perfume. Not for those who do not enjoy more heady spices like myrrh though. A class act.

    Myrrh, & oakmoss.
Overly spicy blend with oakmoss, vetiver, pepper, patchouli, carnation, and double doses of roses. It’s dominant by roses more than carnations as i sense allot of sharp roses. I can detect osmanthus, gardenia, & cedar but no peaches, vanilla, or cherries can be detected.
I had high hope for it and thought it would be something different that what i have sniffed, but it turned to be overly sharp. I can’t deny that it’s cute but no other than fine… maybe if it settled then it will be lighter than what it is now but so far it isn’t much, i think it needs more time, and maybe a cold weather too!

This DIVINE fragrance and I go back to a time in my mid-20s (approximately spring/summer 2001) when I was lucky enough to participate in several beauty product blind trials for a company working to report trends in different types of beauty products for companies in the industry. No other product was labeled or identified, but the small bottle of Giorgio Red was labeled. I was so excited to get to try it because I had never had the opportunity and had always wanted to. At that time, and even today, my two favorite fragrances are Ralph Lauren Safari and Elizabeth Arden Red Door. To me, from the first sniff of Red on my skin, it was definitely different than Red Door, but it had enough similarities that I knew it was going to be a keeper. OK, fast forward to now, my two favorite frags are the same as before, but Red ranks right up there on my list of very favorites – perfumes that I CAN’T DO WITHOUT list. In my mind, I call Giorgio Red “liquid sex”. Wearing this perfume truly makes me feel sexy and confident. Despite being very sexy, I still wear Red to all kinds of occasions, even work. If you’re a lover of frags with rich spice and a bit of the oriental, you will not be disappointed with this beauty.

After reading many reviews on this one, I felt it was right up my ally and a very safe blind buy. So I started keeping my eyes out of it… Today I was shopping at Walmart with my mother in law. I told her I had to go to cosmetics to “take stock” of the fragrances. I scanned the showcase and all the way down at the bottom was my hidden treasure. A small instantly recognizable red box sealed in a tamper-proof plastic case. The box was not priced but I didn’t care how much it cost I just wanted to get my hands on it! After a few minutes and probably 20 different keys it was mine… and for $14.00!!!!!!
Now I’m at home and I have unboxed and applied to my wrist. One word
    STUNNING
It’s everything I expected and more, rich smokey fruits and flowers with just the right amount of spice. Complex and ever changing it wears beautifully despite what some reviewers may say. I’m wearing Halston Classic today which I love, but I’m tempted to take a bath and properly apply Red all over me to get its full effect. I’m not surprised that the nose behind this has done mostly men’s offerings, it’s totally unisex ( if you believe in gendering perfumes, which I do not,but I digress) I’m extreamly happy with red and if you love loud n proud oriental fragrances you will be too!
Update, so I spent the entire evening wearing Red sniffing under my shirt to get wafts of it’s gorgeous notes. The more I handle the bottle the more familiar it looked and felt. I swear my Bobbie (Yiddish for grandmother) had a bottle of this on her dressing table when I was young. I don’t remember smelling it on her since at the time she was a heavy smoker and that’s all you could smell. But I do remember the bottle, I used to play with her make up , perfumes and costume jewelry for hours when we would visit. I feel that this is a fragrance she would have owned and wore at the time and maybe that’s why I love it so much. It’s the next morning now and I still smell hits of Red on my pjs and chest. This is long lasting stuff. Very happy to own it.

a wild beast from the 80’s for sure
i have both the men’s and women’s version
    both are great
this one is warm and sensual
but the cherry adds some sweet cute vibes
i wear this a lot in autumn sunny days
    and gain a lot compliments

Whoa, 80’s powerhouse indeed! Crimped hair, bright makeup and stone washed jeans! Actually, this is more the bitchin feathered hair, tight fitting dresses with big shoulder pads (think Dynasty, i.e. Joan Collins).
Giorgio Red is a tubular fragrance. Like it’s totally wicked, man! No duh, it’s rad! A very bodacious fragrance! Ok, ok enough with my 80’s lingo.
Seriously though, this is really good! I remember smelling the original, but never this one. More than likely because I was a kid when it came out. My mom wore the original Giorgio, and I’m pretty sure she more than likely gave this one a shot too. At first, the aroma is a bit of an onslaught of notes. Yeah, it’s a face slapper at the beginning, but it doesn’t last long. It quickly mellows and as it’s drying, I get the amber, woods, a bit of cherry too. The carnation and oakmoss give it a dry quality, but the other notes keep it from being too dry. It’s actually a little hard for me to describe, to be honest. Yes, it does smell a bit dated, but if you love 80’s powerhouses, then this will be a winner for you. It’s super long lasting and sillage starts off big then mellows to a more moderate aroma. It also sticks well to clothing.
    Strong, powerful and totally bitchin!

Red is a fragrance I always wanted to try back in the day and just never got around to it. I finally picked up a bottle today for a very reasonable price.
This does not disappoint. I love it! This is a wonderfully complex mix of cherry, ylang ylang, carnation, oakmoss, amber, and myrrh. It’s fruity, floral, spicy, warm, and woody. I think the cherry note makes this fragrance very unique. And it has both ylang ylang and myrrh, which are two of my favorite notes. I knew I couldn’t go wrong!

This is my cousins wife’s signature scent( and by signature I mean the only scent she wears! For 30+ years). I think its very fitting to her persona, she is gregarious, laughs easily, flirty and fun loving. She has the same birthday as I do( both Sagittarius girls) and we both like similar jewelry, clothing etc. I get sweet, woodsy, a tiny bit powdery…like a nightclub, much less screechy version oif Giorgio. I can’t imagine wearing it myself as outs “her” scent but I enjoy it.
The same lady used to wear Wind Song as well.

I think this perfume accurately describes “Red” on so many levels. The cherry/sandalwood/amber/myrhh/rose/carnation take center stage and harmonize so well together; and stay this way well into the dry down. So amazing is this composition, I now remember why it was so popular in its release and for decades later! One spray is really all you need. To my husband, he said it smelled like “candy”.

This fragrance is most definitely an 80’S creation.
I discoveted it in the mid 90’s and loved it immediately.Thete is something warm, floral extravagnt all embracing about it. All embracing is the operative word here.
It is potent, so a little goes a long way, and too much would be overbearing fast.
It is a heavy scent, but not overly sweet the way many contemporary scents are, no candy floss here!
Due to its potency, i feel its great year round except for the hottest humidest days. Not really a work fragrance due to its insistence.
As this is not a subtle fragrance, try before you buy.

Ah, a decadent perfume from the decade of decadence. I bought it when it came out because it smelled like a sensuous and sultry night, spicy-sweet with a hint of musk and wood. It was the perfect complement to the bright, sweet sunshine of Georgio Beverly Hills, which I was very devoted to at the time (along with Chanel No. 19). Red became a bit much for me, then went rogue and turned nasty. I have on a very very light spritz (from an almost empty almost 30-year-old bottle) as I’m typing this. I’m getting heavy “hairspray” and powder, neither of which are pleasant to me as radiating scents. They’re overpowering the warmth of the amber, muting the sweetness of the florals and vanilla, and cruelly obliterating everything else. On me, this becomes akin to standing in an 80s women’s room: everyone is at the mirror doing makeup through a fog of Aquanet. On my mother, however, Red smells as opulent and divine as it should, which is why the bottle I sprayed from is actually hers, a long ago trade, my Red for her Opium. Red is still her favorite, and she wears it very well. It makes her happy.

Can’t imagine not wearing it. Have worn it since it came out in the 80’s. I had very red hair and my nickname was red and my previous perfume was discontinued so I segued into this.
I have been in love ever since. My husband traditionally finds it for me for all my special occasions. Have many of the premiums originally offered with a gift box. The Giorgio bear, the watch, the travel bag, etc. Everyone, every age comments on how nice I smell. I hope to wear it until I die.

Found a great deal and couldn’t pass it up, so I blind bought it. I was born in ’78, so I did not wear this during its heyday and literally all my mother has worn my entire life is Azureé and Shalimar. I did not think I had any nostalgia to this scent, either, s I grew up in a very rural town and few people could afford something like this back in the day. All this preamble is to say, instantly when I sprayed it, I was at once filled with wonder at its beauty and an immense melancholy, as though I had lost something irrepalacable.
My first love (and only true love for many, many years) died relatively young and RED, for some reason, reminds me heartbreakingly of him.
The scent itself is a heady, swirling mist full of florals and incense and amber and spices. It is just just sweet enough to keep it from being bitter but it is not a “sweet” perfume. This is old school glamour and elegant, if applied with a light touch. I only bought it an hour ago and have already gotten two unsolicited compliments. I absolutely love this but I love unapologetically big fragrances. Lightly applied, this is perfectly wearable, even in enclosed spaces (light as in spray in the air and walk through)! At home, though, I intend on drenching myself in RED’s mysteriously womanly glory.
Even with the somewhat bittersweet association of my long-dead love, it soothes a spot in my heart that I have tucked away, and it smells divine while doing so.
UDATE: This certainly gives you the most bang for your buck! For being an EDT, it lasts and projects wonderfully.

RED is deep, warm and spicy. The fruit notes add just a touch of sweetness without being overtly “fruity.” This absolutely isn’t a fruity-floral or a gourmand. On me, there’s something of an incense-like quality, especially after 4 or 5 hours when RED starts to become smoky and woody. Sillage is on the high side of moderate and longevity is excellent. In its current formulation, RED is versatile and easy to wear. I tend to prefer this sort of fragrance in cooler weather. By the way, this might be a good one to try if you’re in the mood for something retro, but not “hardcore” retro. Very, very nice all around.
Until last year, I’d avoided any fragrances from this brand as the original GIORGIO wasn’t something I’d ever cared for and I’d assumed – rightly or wrongly – that I wouldn’t like the others either. . As I’m unfamiliar with the vintage RED, I don’t know what sort of changes may have been wrought in the modern formulation, but I’m very happy with this one.

Oh, Red. You’re too darn sexy and complicated, like the memories of my first love during my teenage years. The scent you enveloped us with was bittersweet, still gives me butterflies in my stomach whenever I wear your scent. I am afraid to wear it while I’m with my friends from way back. They knew.

If Red were a movie she would be “Thelma & Louise”. Absolutely fabulous scent for a woman who will kill you if you screw with her. I don’t think shoulder pads or power suits go with Red, I see Levi’s and cowgirl boots, but that’s just me…Earthy cinnamon floral with lots of chutzpah.

Well I have had this for about five months, I bought two bottles of the 1.7 oz right when it was turning hot in June at Walmart of all places, the saleslady said I should because they were going for $19 and when gone, they’d be replaced by smaller bottles at $29. So I said, sure. Just wore it for first time yesterday. Oh my God, yes indeed, rich, luxe, spice flower bomb.
Sprayed it on, went for my power walk and then went shopping. I’ll wear this baby when ever and wherever I damn well want
Edit: It does initially present very strongly, however only lasts on me for about an hour or so, surprisingly. I do have to reapply a few times during the day. My skin is a horrible gobbler of fragrance, it’s what I have to deal with. Even with some of the so-called heavy hitters, there’s no guarantee with me they will act like that on my skin, it’s all trial and error. Sigh. Still love this though.
Edit again Turns out that out of the two bottles I bought one was bad. That’s why it didnt last.Found that out after testing sprays from the two bottles I bought at the same time side by side. After I threw that one away the other was perfect! Strong and lasting. So glad I got to the bottom of that problem! Yay so happy! Loving this and WILL be repurchasing when this perfect bottle is gone!

Ick. Is it possible to be derivative…of derivation? Generic in the extreme? Couldn’t pick this one out of a line up of a hundred of its knock-offs. Lame.

I haven’t worn this one in a while, and I’d forgotten just how good it is! Very rich and cheerful, like red velvet, and just a smidge “too much” in the very best way. The cherry against the oakmoss is fab, super unique. A great scent for holiday parties.

    I’ve reviewed this one before.
I LOVED it when I first had it but the next two bottles were a disaster. I put it down to a bad reformulation and moved on. Or so I thought. Lately, I started obsessing about it again so I took a risk and blind bought a 30ml.
Giorgio Red, you have redeemed yourself! <3

This is a very nostalgic scent for me, I remember when my little sister broke my moms bottle all over the bathroom floor when we were kids. Needless to say the bathroom smelled wonderful forever afterwards lol I loved this scent so much as a young teenager I used to buy the perfum de couer knockoff body spray “a little sexy” I always thought to myself a little sexy? This is way sexier then a little! I am not sure I agree with the notes listed, because I hate aldehydes and I never smelled them in this. Also, if you go to the Giorgio website and look at the notes aldehydes aren’t listed. If they were included in the composition at some point I am pretty sure they no longer are. It’s been a long time since I smelled this and I am getting ready to purchase a vintage bottle on eBay and hoping that all the magic will still be there for me.
UPDATE: yes the magic is still there. The first spray is sweet balsamic cherry incense. This scent is so rich and complicated, I can’t recommend it enough.

I came acrid small .5 oz bottles of this and some other brands at a local dollar store so for old times sake I picked one up and it smells ok I was never a fan of the Giorgio line back in the day and nothing’s changed but this smells dated and spicy so I probably won’t wear it but it’s good to sniff every now and then.

I have the Gift Set With Body Lotion. Well this is going into my collection of “glamorous evening gown” luxury perfume wardrobe! This is luxury and a million dollars in a bottle. It’s from the 80’s and it’s a Giorgio so you know what that means. The same ladies that wore Giorgio Beverly Hills with those fragrant mega white flowers can also wear this one. My mother loves this fragrance and while I’m not too crazy about it, this scent suits me when I perform in evening gowns in front of a large audience at a formal wedding or gala. Red is a glamorous fragrance of fruits, flowers woods and incense. It opens with aldehydes. The aldehydes are brilliant and fresh very similar to Chanel No. 22, like fizzy champagne. Once the aldehydes disappear, I smell a peach and cherry combination which is very delicious. I also smell some currant. Smells like a red wine. Yes RED WINE should have been the name of this fragrance. It’s like a fruited red wine. Sweet peaches, cherries and some orange. The flowers in this perfume that jumped out at me include: carnation, oversized, a big red rose, a white gardenia and tuberose, iris and rosemary. Beautiful very intense floral aromas. Go big or go home. The litchi is also here keeping everything sweet and I can still smell that cherry. Finally there’s incense, myrrh, olibanum and it gives this fragrance the feeling that they wore it in Saudi Arabia (Dubai) or Cairo Egypt before it arrived in The US. It’s definitely an Oriental fragrance of incense. There’s sandalwood and woodsy notes, amber, patchouli and vetiver, which lean towards the unisex side and masculine side but I find spicy, bold, sultry. It’s a perfume for a woman who knows who she is, she’s complex, mature and gets what she wants every time. This fragrance reminds me of the scene in Gone With The Wind with Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara in that sequin red gown. You remember the scene. She’s forced to go to Ashley Wilkes’ birthday party with the whole town thinking she had slept with her best friend Melanie’s husband. This is exactly what she would have been wearing with that red dress. This is a sexy strong woman’s perfume, very much a cougar perfume, Mrs. Robinson, a seductress, enchanting, intelligent, powerful. Mae West perfume. I love how it makes me feel and I love where it takes me when I wear it. It does smell outdated now but on the plus side if you wear it no one else would be wearing it and you will definitely stand out. If you want to stand out that is.

Fragrance Review For Red Giorgio Beverly Hills
Top Notes: Bergamot Osmanthus Ylang Ylang Orange Blossom Peach Black Currant Hyacinth Aldehydes Cherry
Middle Notes: Carnation Rose Jasmine Rosemary Gardenia Tuberose Iris Lily of the Valley Litchi
Base Notes: Patchouli Oak Moss Amber Cedar Sandalwood Vetiver Tonka Vanilla Myrrh Olibanum
Reminds me of Rouge by Hermes. This is a lush, luxurious, complex, glamorous 80’s power perfume. You’ll just love it if you are the type that wears Ysatis, Poison, Coco, the aforementioned Rouge by Hermes, Paris by Ives Saint Laurent, Loulou by Cacharel, Diva by Ungaro, you get the picture. This is an aromatic explosion. It smells so good. It does throw out incredible sillage and can be detected 6 feet away if you spray too much so don’t. With the body lotion (included in the gift set) the fragrance is to die for. It wears like a glamorous red evening gown, it’s got sequins, it’s got a slit on the side to show your leg a la Angelina Jolie at the Oscars. It also evokes the image of a 1940’s lounge singer or Jessica Rabbit LOL This is a sexy spicy aromatic floral. I love how it opens with a red colored fruity note: cherry, red cherries. How appropriate. And then it smells of sweet peach. The litchi way down in the base comes up to join the peach and currant/cherry sweetness. The rose is prominent which make sense since this is all about red colors: red cherry red rose. The other flowers that are here include tuberose and gardenia, fragrant white flowers. They are essentially the same floral smells of the Giorgio Beverly Hills original classic. Anyone familiar with that famous “banned” perfume should enjoy this one too. Just don’t overspray! This can become a red devil if you spray liberally. With the softest touch it’s a delicious sweet fruity floral with foundations of aromatic notes of myrrh and olibanum (incense) patchouli sandalwood amber vetiver and moss. And the woods ltos of woods including my favorite sandalwood. This gives the scent a long lasting life and some unisex qualities. I would say that whereas Giorgio Beverly Hills is very womanly this is a cologne for both women AND MEN. Men check this out and don’t let gender labels on perfume stop you. This is a kick ass vetiver, patchouli and woodsy scent that can be found in men’s colognes. This woman conquers this woman rules in red. She is the Red Queen.

Just got it today in the mailbox. I survived the initial chemical blast, and it developed into this lovely smokey Amber woody cherry smell. What a lovely smell. Love it. Just a puff and get yourself into a mysterious lovely smell. Defo a date and night scent. Recommend dearly

If this is a weaker version, then I hate to think what the vintage was like. One spray to the forearm enveloped me in a perfumed cloud. And oh, it lasted! It changed every now and then, wafting different scents at me.
It’s definitely dated in the sense that it couldn’t be mistaken for a perfume from this century. It’s complex, well-blended carnation scent and beautiful in a distinctly perfume-y way. Maybe it’s my age, but it says elegance, competence and maturity to me, almost intimidating. I was thirteen when it came out.
It doesn’t really fit my relaxed geeky lifestyle. It seems to go a woman who wears lipstick, designer handbags, high heels and works in the corporate world. If I invest in a bottle, I will wear it only when I want to own every year of my age and remind myself that I am powerful in my own way.

Not as offensive as Giorgio, harsh or sharp, but I
don’t appreciate buying something called ‘Red’ &
ending up w/something of this inadequacy, spice-

“Red” is a con-artist. Ugly bottle too. …Peace…

I used to douse myself with this in the early 90s (back before I knew better). Lord I was probably gagging those around me. This scent is super strong. A little goes a long way. I enjoy softer scents now. But definitely use this sparingly.

When anyone is thinking of “perfume” as an abstract thing — “this is what perfume smells like” — they’re thinking about scents like “Red”. This is perfume with a capital “P”.
For someone who loves the stuff, loves scent that smells like a distinctive composition, I really appreciate “Red” for its glamour and character. It opens with powdery florals underpinned with dry, grassy greens. The resinous, warm, spicy incense base is evident from the very opening and puffs, rolls, throughout the entire composition like incense is actively burning.
A cherry sweet, creamy blend of waxy carnation comes forward and you can almost smell that distinctive, clove waxiness of the base of the petals on a carnation rolling over incense smoke. Astringent woods push forward and everything blends into a smooth, oily, dry blend of of woodsy, resin sweetness with a powdery, bittersweet kick.
This is the scent of a woman. Not of a meek girl, not of someone who is passive and compliant; this is the distinctive scent of a woman with her own space, her own office, her own household, her own stage. It is lovely for what it is but it is not something to blind buy nor spray in layers; test it, spray it once and lower than the collarbone. Honestly, this is one of those scents that if over-applied, will have people running you out of close quarters. Like Cacharel’s “Loulou” and Dior’s “Poison”, you can not over apply “Red” unless you want to turn off perfume novices to perfume, forever.
However, if you can apply with restraint and if a distinctive, womanly, classic, signature scent is for you and you have a larger than life personality, “Red” is for you. If you’d like to reveal that side of you just a little to The Public, spray and wait an hour or more for the soft, powdery resins to settle.

Don´t judge a book by its cover. Upon first whiff of a vintage original .25 oz perfume, I was What the heck is this? Yuk medicine…I dont know what….but after 15 minutes or so, a dry down falls of succulent semi sweet powder snowflakes, gentle and refined. It is like Evita walks into the room and then turns into ..yes Grace Kelly as others say. This is a nice refined pefume and I think it is quite available on ebay still in vintage form. Don´t be afraid by the opening. This is nuclear power juice, refined or not, so go easy. Personally I dont think sprays are good for many of the vintage powerhouses…as even one full spray is simply too much. I also think that if half the perfume goes on hair and clothes, maybe that is different than the old time one tiny half drop on two or three pulse points,,,,

Like the original Giorgio, Red is so well-blended that I can’t really pick out much in the way of individual notes, though it does evolve a bit more. On me, it starts out woody and VERY balsamic, and the drydown is spiced fruit. Later on, I get the florals. It’s just the right level of sweet, and not at all in a sugary way.
I don’t find Red especially sexy, but it IS very festive and Christmas-y smelling with wonderful strength, sillage, and longevity, and it’s really unique… I can’t think of another fragrance to which to compare it. Very, very rich and bold, without being as brash as Giorgio original. I don’t think it smells dated at all (though if it did, I wouldn’t care).
Incredible value for the dollar here! With modern scents, you have to pay an arm and a leg for anything with any presence (and still, paying through the nose is certainly not a guarantee of any kind), but a 3-ounce bottle of Giorgio Red can be had for under $25 on Amazon, and it’ll last you.

My kinda perfume. Love it as much as YSL Opium .. but Red holds a distinct advantage. Price, plus none of the upset over reformulation. Not necessarily comparing them as being similar but if you can’t get Opium (even if you can) This one could work well for you. Upon first spray or two was nice but then seemed to vanish. But later Red seemed to turn into something that wasn’t anything but maybe a burnt bitter. Waited couple hours and decided, why not? Sprayed again. Maybe my own personal chemistry. Now it has taken full, glorious bloom. I even thought I was smelling civet and aldehydes! Not listed. Nevertheless, This is what I seek in fumes. A lot of notes going on and the song they make is music to my ears. Not light or fresh .. this one is walking into a fragrant incense or spice shop.

It smells like a mixture of Opium and Sandalwood to be honest.
