Oh Iris! Why can’t we be friends?
I tested this before bed last night. The opening had a really pronounced jasmine, but the iris was fighting for attention in a soapy/screechy way it sometimes does.
I was decided that this just wasn’t for me when about an hour in those honeyed fruits came out beautifully. There was a perfect sweetness and I fell asleep happy.
This morning I can still smell it, fruit and amber. I seem to have missed most the incense.
Now I will have to revisit and see the whole production. This is clearly a great fragrance and if you like iris I couldn’t see how this could go wrong.

Because it wasn’t going away any time soon I figured I’d just wear it today and it is lovely. The incense note reminds me of incense notes in vintage perfumes, but the amber and dried fruit keep it from feeling dated and make it feel really elegant. The patchouli is present but it’s clean and not sweet so it blends well.

Beautiful Oriental. I’m working on creating my own Oriental frag so it’s of interest to me to look for as many Orientals as possible. This is a niche indie scent and most likely even if you’re a fan of Orientals (i.e. Samsara, Shalimar) you probably haven’t heard of this one. This is a smoky floral. The incense wafts out of this like real smoke but in a good way. The dried fruits and patchouli give it a definite aromatic aspect typical of Persian oils and fragrances. This smells also of sandalwood. It has an incredibly long life. It is a bit reminiscent of Aromatic Elixir by Clinique but less intense. The opening is citrus which gives it a freshness before it dries down to wood. This really does evoke the Arabian Nights and mosques, incense, magic carpets and beautiful harem girls. I wore this when I was costumed as a Persian princess when I turned 30. This was a fun fragrance because it really does smell Arabic and like you’re right there in a Persian palace. For me however this never goot too strong or masculine. The flowers namely rose and iris make it very feminine and the fruitiness plus there’s vanilla. On me it smelled so sweet and sexy. People complimented me all night long. This always takes me back to a year ago when I was having such a good time turning 30.

I bought a sample pack of assorted scents and this was my favorite of the bunch, as well as my favorite from Esther P (full disclosure, I haven’t tried all of the scents from Esther P yet).
This is a beautiful and complex Oriental Floral blend that’s safe for daytime if applied with a light hand. I prefer to save it for nighttime and apply recklessly. It’s that good, with decent sillage that never overpowers and great longevity of 10 hours or more.
I get just a hint of the candied fruits. Queen of Persia persents mostly as a lush, deep, sweet and smoky oriental on my skin. It brings to mind a high-quality incense stick burning in a silver tray. It has a traditional oriental/Arabian (Persian?) aroma. Possibly unisex but this is one I think men will enjoy smelling on the women in their lives instead of wearing. Great scent for evenings, fall and winter but I might give it a whirl in warmer weather and see how those floral and fruity notes shake out.
(I agree with the comparisons to Vanille Insensee and I’m very curious about Curve Vintage Soul now.)

Queen of Persia is a beauty from the house of Esther P, a French niche brand that I have just discovered. This is an amazing incense scent with incense being the first note that you smell, joined by the fruits and strong patchouli. In the topnotes this is a very “patchy” fragrance so if you dislike patchouli this is not for you.
But as it develops, the florals and vanilla come on strong, holding their own with the strong headnotes. I wish I smelled more rose in this juice, but the rose is blended well with the jasmine and iris. I smell more iris than any other floral, balanced with a soupcon of the bergamot and mandarin. Like all of Esther P’s scents, this is a subtle blend, although it does not seem so upon initial application. This fragrance has great longevity for an EDT. I bought a full bottle and will definitely replace it when it is done. I found this brand on indiescents.com if anyone is interested. I have no affiliation with either Esther P. or indiescents.
