Nice, quality fragrance that is well-crafted. Almost qualifies as a gourmand. You can certainly smell the nutmeg!

This is pure class in a bottle, a safe blind reach for those wanting to make an understated statement of a gentleman. While this juice is an obvious no-go for yuppies, it is definitely a 35+/40+ frag mainly for a suit and tie business scenario. If you are into classics, this is one you simply cannot go wrong with.

This is a true beauty. Mossy and citrusy like a classic EdC, with a powdery lavender to give that classic barbershop twist. Then throw in a couple rich notes: vanilla, oppoponax/sweet myrhh, and cardamon to really spice things up. What do you get? A multi dimensional, classy gentleman’s fragrance that is subtle enough to be proper but screams the classy nature of a vintage Chanel fragrance. Beautiful.
The new Eau de Parfum smells similar, very much so, but I think it is missing just a little bit of depth. The EdP version is a bit cleaner to my nose, this has a touch of an animalic tinge to keep you sniffing.

Why putting Vanilla in this great formula. It seems like it has nothing in common with other ingredients that make the original one a great classic chypre. It feels like vanilla has been added to make it easier for nowadays poeple. But you better teach poeple other than give them what they want.
I’m staying with the original eau de toilette.

I have this and the new parfum version and i cant detect any real difference as others have. they are both great,in my opinion this is the best chanel offering, Its a very alluring classy scent with everything blended perfectly.just the right amount of sweetness, spice and very masculine.addictive. wish it came in a bigger size as with the huge sprayer the level soon drops. performance is great with this one and overall its a 9/10 for me.

I like it, but I’m not sure if I like it. The dry down is far better than the opening. It’s a manly and spicy fragrance that is not too dated for the various adult age demographics in my opinion. Sniff it out the next time you head to your local department store.

The mythical “Pour un Homme” of Caron seen under the vision Chanel and de Polge.
A lovely entrée of mandarin with petit grain, cardamom and a lot of lavender, very nice, fresh, very aromatic and somewhat spicy to conform the character of this classic oriental structure.
As it clears that initial freshness begins to feel the vanilla (vanillin) that begins to sweeten the development with the help of opopanax until drying. A drop of oak moss gives it an exotic touch along with the earthy effect of vetiver that only fades the drying and brings an air of sober masculinity.
Nevertheless, lavender and the sweet vanilla are the ones that mark the pattern, the evolution and the drying of PMC, under a stately structure very marked towards the retro.
Three phases of development, a discrete stela but one that feels quite time.
I like it very much, because it smells very good, it is discreet, it is ideal for everyday, it is very well made, and above all because it escapes the dusty sensations of filling the dried musks, something so fashionable and so seen in today’s fragrances In day, what supposes a good alternative for who does not like of these and with the stamp of good taste of Chanel.

Pour Monsieur is a refreshing citrus cologne and as soothing and subtle a scent as white citrus hand soap. This is definitely on the mark or rather on the nose as a Chanel fragrance, a brand which seldom formulated fragrances for men.
This is a review for the concentree which is essentially an eau de toilette and consequently more enjoyable, more wearable, as a day-to-day cologne. The classiness of this cologne would be mismatched with a pair of casual jeans and T Shirt and it really must be worn with dress shirts slacks suit and ties. Monsieur opens with petit-grain, green notes, citrus notes. I detect both sour lemon and sweet mandarin orange, in place of aldehydes, closer in smell to bergamot orange oil. All in all a bright opening, summery and juicy. The lavender note at the top is the only floral note, typical of a lavender fougere.
The spices in the heart are tender. In fact the whole thing is very soft, not like powdery soft, but in it’s quantity and sillage, this is a rather modest and conservative, timid fragrance. Sits close to the skin and can hardly be detected. There is a slight fresh laundry smell to it but that’s not bad. Like I said it matches with clean dress shirts of various colors but this cologne is highly evocative of soft pale colors like white, beige, pale blue and pea green. It has an herbal aroma, especially after the spices of nutmeg and ginger wear off, turning into a green moss smell. There’s a note of vetiver but it’s not like jungle floor or forests. It has more polish and never turns into a full-fledged chypre. This is more of a green bar of soap, like Irish Spring soap, but as a luxurious and more well-composed fragrance.
Pour Monsieur can be worn in any season or any weather as a casual after-your-shower cologne to wear to work. Nevertheless, it’s greenery and citruses are evocative of spring and summer. The image that comes to mind is a well-dressed British gentleman in a pale lavender, mint green or white colored dress shirt, a light grey suit, a waist coat, a tie or bow tie, spectacles and pocket watch. This is not my idea of a French cologne but of an Anglo, calm, cool, collected, conservative and even distant. The French have long held a reputation for conveying more emotion and palpable passion for which reason I associate Egoiste; a purely decadent and sinful fragrance, with the French and not Pour Monsieur which is far too refined and touch-me-not. If this fragrance did not have the Chanel label, it would smell like a monk from the Italian Renaissance created it out of orange groves. A beautiful simply beautiful and easy to wear fragrance.

Profumo speziato.
    Profumo 9/10
    Sillage 9/10
    Longevità 9/10

Contrary to the reviews indicating that Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree is a citrus and vanilla powder fragrance, I get a fairly strong woody presence in the heart and base. So to me, this scent shares more DNA with something like Guerlain’s Heritage or de Nicolai’s New York than, say, Habit Rouge.
Why someone would claim to like and respect those former two scents and badmouth CPMC is beyond me (I’m looking at you, Turin); they are all based on the same woody-oriental theme and have mostly surface-level differences: Heritage is peppery, New York starts with lavender and citrus, and Pour Monsieur Concentree opens with citrus and spice (nutmeg). All fade to the classy woody oriental base we’re familiar with. The Chanel has a bit more of a vanilla presence, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable.
I unintentionally received this when I ordered what I thought was the original Chanel Pour Monsieur (my own fault, so I wasn’t going to return it). At first I was upset, but I gave it a chance and I really enjoy it. I’d sampled but didn’t own a bottle of any of the scents I used for comparison above, and frankly I think I would be happy with any of them…so I’m happy to have Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree fill the woody-oriental spot in my wardrobe.

Wow! I love this scent! PM is a masculine, mature, classy, elegant and refined fragrance. A delicious combination of
Citrus, pepper, spices, woods and a touch of sweetness. It is fresh and clean, yet just a little bit dirty. With great projection and longevity on my skin.
This works very well in a a sports coat, but I can wear this one in trendy casual as well.
I see this as a mature man’s scent. So if you are younger than 30, you may not like this scent.
Bottom line: If you like mature masculine scents, you should try a sample of this.

This is a review for the vintage one.
This is a pretty nice one.
It is similar to the original from 1955 but instead of being bright and crisp it is softer and more comforting, with a tad bit of sweetness to it.
This is ideal for Fall and Christmas time.
This smells grandfatherly but whereas the original is more soapy and cold this is more spicy and warm.
I think you should consider this if you are over 30 but of course a young guy who wants to smell like a man could wear this… if you are male and want to be a man instead of a sissy emotional wimp (my sanitized rendition of Clint Eastwood’s recent characterization of North Americans societies), then go ahead and rock this … you can look in the mirror and imagine yourself in the future to be a 60 year old man in a leather recliner wearing a knitted sweater in front of a fire with a cigar.

this and pm edt is totally 2 different fragrances! not even the vibes are similar. edt is herbal and this one is aromatic. the drydown of this is almost like to that of antaeus. its rare in my country (only chanel boutique in klcc sells it) so i grabbed it the moment i saw it! quite nice but to me the edt is better, although d longevity of this might be more superior. we shall see after a few wearings
edit: i get very much citrus early on but the spices kick in very soon, then settles into vetiver almost like to that of dia. very mature and sophisticated. but can cause headache if used more than 4 sprays

  17. :

Definitely not a fan of this one. It’s very strong and almost nauseating. It opens very citrusy, but just turns into this ultra woody monstrosity and that is about it. I feel like it is a shell of the original pour monsieur. The original is so unique and has so many different notes, these one note fragrances really turn me off, especially when they are just dry and powerful.

  18. :

    4 out of 5

This is a very refined, elegant and a sophisticated scent. The opening is a blast of citrus with some spice notes quite strong, but with no real harshness that you can get from other scents.
To me this can work year round and for any occasion Except hot summer days. It is also semi sweet/powdery in the dry down and there is a subtle soapy note that is there from the opening. Lasting power on skin is easily 8 hours plus with very good projection for the first 5 hours. This is a true EDP has high levels of oil so go easy on the trigger. Sprayer is top notch sprays in a nice wide mist reminding you of the quality of channels experience.
To me this can work as a signature scent. I have got the new formulation which is being called EDP now as opposed to EDT concentree. which was the old formulation. I have smelt both of these side by side and they are near identical but the new version is slightly lighter on the vanilla. but still amazing.
There is an original version from 1955 EDT which is still on the market more or less the same but minus the sweet/powdery base of this and add more vetiver also an amazing scent. This would work for anyone from age 30+ give or take. I have not smelt many thing on the market today which smell anything like this.
This is Chanel perfumery at its finest.

  19. :

When I first bought, it was like a soft lemon scent that dries into vanilla. Now I notice more of the vetiver and oakmoss. It was a battle between this and Egoiste at the store. This won. I don’t have a signature, but this is pretty darn close.

If I were a man I would be … Chanel Pour Monsieur .
Man but not macho, masculine but gracefully, but with control of himself proud, bold but not brash, present and safe but not intrusive and arrogant. Delicate but not dull. So here I am reminded of the image of this fragrance… It reminds me of men of the past but the present and singular , unique , with a strong personality . You ‘re not so? Then he begins to wear, who knows that it can not happen a wild magic!

Ah, Pour Monsieur, my old friend! This takes me back to my younger years. Maybe it is an old man’s fragrance now, but not back then. It is so sophisticated and I get the lavendar, cardamom, and oak moss. Top notes are more citrusy though, but that goes to the far background. This one lasts a long time and projects on me big time. This just oozes sophistication. Great fragrance by Chanel.

I hadn’t tried the original concentration, so I was a little skeptical when trying Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentrée for the first time. Upon first spray, it’s an obviously masculine but not overwhelming combination of citrus and spice, and within its dry down, it’s clear that it probably has year-round and day/night versatility as well. I like it to Ralph Lauren’s Safari in this respect: it’s sophisticated and classic, being just enough “old man” but also fresh to create a fragrance that can really be a signature.
The lavender/mandarin opening create a sharp, fresh, and slightly sweet mix that is well-grounded by the cardomom and vetiver, which constitute the earthy, spicy accord. I don’t specifically detect the vanilla.
Projection is moderate and longevity is great for an EDT, or good, for an EDP. There seems to be a little confusion about the concentration (even on the Chanel website, which describes it as an EDT but shows the bottle with EDP), but regardless, it’s a decently strong but not overwhelming scent that is in the sweet spot of concentration without being a powerhouse ala Tom Ford Private Blend.
I think all men need to try this to see if it’s in their wheelhouse. It may not suit a young man, but I imagine it would work well for many men, given that it’s a mix of several different categories and keeps the ingredients well in balance.

I bought mine as a tester off eBay (along with Chanel P.E. which is what I was interested in initially), & it did not come with a box. If anyone wears this as a signature &/or just happens to have an unused box lying around for a 75 mL (2.5 oz) bottle, would you kindly P.M. me?
    Scintillating fragrance!
Has lasting power, & gets better & better as it wears.
If oversprayed, it locks in the top notes longer.
It does have definite similarities to Obsession. However, when I compared it side by side to my vintage bottle of Obsession, they’re miles apart. Obsession doesn’t ever even leave the starting gates when compared to Pour Monsieur. I never really liked Obsession, but P.M.C. is on another level.
12 hours after applying, I woke up to an intoxicating aroma wafting from P.M.
Scintillating, racy, zesty, & well-flavored indeed.

I wanna love it. It’s a great scent. But only after an hour… On initial spray, all I get is “Mister Clean Lemon”… It’s a shame because it evolves into a beautiful complex fragrance and the longetivity is great if you like a smell close to your skin. Lasts for days in clothes.
Conclusion, great signature scent for a man over 25. Just think of spraying it long enough before leaving the house.

This cologne is not as complex and sophisticated as the original Chanel Pour Monsieur. In fact I think it was a wast of money especially since I could have got the original for a little bit more money. May be it’s just my skin because I have read many great reviews here.
The opening has a lot going on, Lavender, Oakmoss, Vetiver, Mandarin Orange and Vanilla but within a couple of minutes becomes Powdery and one-dimensional and rather ordinary.
A good gym fragrance I guess. Stick to the original or try before you buy it.

    My favorite Chanel for men.
I will amend this review after i use it again.
    Waiting for a cold day.
Similar to obsession but with much better execution of the idea.
It kind of bridges the gap between old school and new style fragrances.
Opens old school and finishes sweet like a new one.
Perfumecritic pointed out to me that this is different than the 1955 version,as i was confused by this fragrance, even though i like it a great deal.
    Thanks again perfumecritic.
It doesnt really project much, but it does last.i used 6 sprays and a nobody noticed it.
I like the way it dries down ,i think it has strong oakmoss in the opening along with very nice citrus note. The lavender vanilla are complimented by the myrhh. It is more subtle than Egoiste or Antaneus(the siblings i like).
Lasts long ,stays close.Sweet but not as much as a lot of newer fragrances

  27. :

After a good long while of not having a signature scent, but rather a signature rotation, it looks like I have a signature scent again. When I don’t know what to wear, I reach for this. When I’m dressed up nicely and feeling good, I reach for this. When I am meeting with clients and want to make a good impression, I reach for this. On and on… I would not want to spend the rest of my life having only one fragrance, but if I HAD to pick only one, this would be it.
I just recently purchased the newly labeled Pour Monsieur EDP a couple of months ago, and I believe it is the same juice as the Concentree, more or less. I think I get a little less vanillic sweetness from it, a little more of the petitgrain, and it seems to last maybe an hour or two longer than the Concentree I previously owned. The differences are very, very slight. Still great stuff!
    10/10, all time favorite

This is a powdery mess of a cologne. Jacques Polge is a brilliant parfumeur, but all his reformularions on Henri Roberts’s work can only make me think he’s a one-trick pony in this department. All he’s done to these classics is to impart a powdery, musky note…over and over again. There’s this, Pour Monsiuer ‘poudre’, No.19 Poudre and who can forget Christalle eau vert…ooopps, i meant Poudre where he substituted oakmoss with, you guessed it…MUSK!

A more delicious piece of Chanel. Incredible as it takes me back to Versace Versus Uomo. Lavender is prominent in both fragrances, while Versus has a citrus-fruity background, Pour Monsieur Concentreé has a moss-citric background. PMC was launched in 1989 and Versus in 1991.

Classy and elegant. Spicy, woody and sweet. Starts fresh and then transforms to a warm scent with lavender, spices, myrrh and vanilla at the end. The vanilla/opoponax dry down is one of a kind. The overall smell is perfect, long lasting and radiates from the skin. An all-season masterpiece.

As an Egyptian God who lives half the year underground, returning in sunlight in the other half, so Pour Monsieur Concentree delight me in the cold weather with the best smell I’ve experienced so far.
After prolonged use I believe that this perfume was created by Jacques Polge as complementary of the classic Pour Monsieur, can be worn in cold weather (winter only).
The fact that Luca Turin and other reviewers have not appreciated it, is due to most likely inappropriate test of the season – in warm weather prevails suffocating and unbearable vanilla.

Wow man what a scent this is. It is not dated in any form , besides i find it very different and clean.
It has less longevity for sure but. Like 4 hours max on my skin.
In those hours it didnot bore me but gave me continued wiffs/vibes of it minute after minute.
Vetiver and oakmoss are dominant and you may feel like you are sitting in a fresh green park with wet grass around.
Good scent(exceeds expectations and better than platinum chanel cologne)

I ran into a tester of this Concentree version of Pour Monsieur so I sprayed it on the tester strip and was surprised.. I was expecting a big old school citrus but instead I got a semi sweet powdery fragrance with some citrus.. Citrus, lavender, nutmeg, oakmoss and a touch of vanilla.. A bit old school but still wearable.. Maybe the original is the real citrus bomb, I dont know but I am sure I will find out one day.. Seems like a good quality fragrance.. I hope to smell this and the original again sometime, and get to know them better..

Turin, in his reviews, lists Chanel Pour Monsieur as one of his top ten fragrances and the Concentree version as not worth trying. I think he was perhaps so fond of the one as to not give the other its due. I love them both. PM makes one feel like a gentleman. PM Concentree is similar enough to PM, while having a bolder and slightly dirty edge, as to make one feel like a gentleman who when need be can be a bit of a rogue. They compliment each other, and there is a place in the average man’s life for both.

Another Chanel masterpiece. This is a gorgeous and sophisticated masculine fragrance for the mature and confident man. The drydown, like Antaeus, is heavenly. This is a must have if you’re a Chanel collector or enjoy masterful creations. Not a fragrance for youth, unless of course you think you can pull it off with confidence.

Great smelling fragrance, doesn’t seem like some kind of old school frag to me. However, this seems to have been reformulated or WILL be very soon.
PLEASE LOOK ON THE CHANEL WEBSITE AND LOOK AT THE BOTTLE, IT HAS EAU DE PARFUM ON IT.
I received a response from Chanel. Please read.
    ‘Dear Robert,
Thank you for taking the time to contact Chanel.
We understand your concern in regards to Pour Monsieur Eau De Toilette Concentree Spray and we thank you for your loyalty to our Chanel fragrance.
Our olfactory perception may sometimes change due to numerous parameters, ranging from increasing familiarity with a fragrance, until we may end up no longer recognizing it, to internal or external causes.
It can also happen that a slight adaptation of the formula is required to keep up with changing regulations, but we have a very gifted “nose” whose job is to move the fragrance forward, while at the same time ensuring that its olfactory qualities and its personality remain consistent. To do that, he has a broad palette of exceptional, and often exclusive, raw materials to work with.
CHANEL is one of the rare Houses to still have its own integrated Perfume Laboratory. This means that we control the original composition of our perfumes and one of the responsibilities of our in-house “nose” is to monitor compliance with these fragrances.
This concern to preserve the quality of the original is absolutely key to our profession of perfumer.

The opinion of a man in his late 20s: This is a very beautiful, modern, and sophisticated scent. It’s perfect for 80 degrees F and below. At the top, it has a dusty lemon vibe. It’s very similar to lemon candy drops but it’s never too sweet. I believe petitgrain and lavendar in the opening is quickly joined by the nutmeg and cardamom in the mid and I believe this phase is what modernizes this fragrance as you’ll find this combination used in a lot of modern releases. At this point, I’m reminded of banana bread, and I believe it’s the nutmeg and vanilla in the base that evokes this image. It’s very delicious smelling but it still manages to remain sophisticated and elegant. Its elegance, lies within its base; the oakmoss, opoponax, vanilla, and vetiver is just perfect. The opoponax provides the sweet resins, the vetiver and oakmoss incorporate an earthy vibe that tempers the vanilla. And even after providing a phase breakdown, I still have to say this is blended so well that it’s pretty difficult to separate the notes. I get at least 10 hours of longevity with steady wafts of this delicious and masculine lemon, banana bread smell. Oh, and I’ve also started layering this with Eau des Minimes from Le Couvent des Minimes, and the result is fantastic. It provides a brighter, more natural lemon and grapefruit at the top.

Circa 20 years ago, when I was a kid, my Dad had this fragrance underneath the guest bathroom counter. He never wore it or hardly any other. I tried it and instantly fell in love. I must have been between 10 and 12. It was the best thing I had ever smelled. I used it through junior high and the end of highschool without asking whenever I had a big date, prom, you name it. I wore Polo Sport on a regular basis. But even at an early age, I knew this fragrance was special, classy, and in another league from my Polo Sport. I eventually finished his bottle before I moved out. Fast forward to more recently, I found the fragrance at the mall and was elated. I drove home in this magical fragrance Nirvana after giving myself more squirts than I probably should have.
This is an elegant and understated fragrance that has a beautiful, sweet, powdery smell that is more likely to be discovered than pronounced. If you are looking for this one, Nordstrom’s is a great place to start as that’s where I purchased mine for $75.
The Tiffany for Men was developed by the same person around the same time and does have some striking similarities. However, after testing both, I still return to this classic as the clear winner. Not just because of the nostalgia, but because it still takes me to the same fragrance Nirvana every time I apply it as when I first tried it nearly 20 years ago. If ever I could use the word “Masterpiece” for a fragrance, it would surely be this one! Bravo!

Chanel “Pour Monsieur” is quite simply one of the most sophisticated evening scents I’ve ever smelled.
A sparkling, alluring blend of powdery spice and light citrus with a sweet, resinous underbelly that is never thick or cloying. Perfectly blended, it is classic enough for older men, but yet sweet and chic enough to appeal to younger tastes.
    Gorgeous.

This is my first and favorite, the first real cologne I treated myself to. I don’t even remember why I chose it over other bottles, I certainly wasn’t sophisticated when it came to scent. But I really loved it, it felt both masculine and sensual. The interplay of all the notes is complex, spicy underneath a clean, refreshing top. I think the key is the opoponax. That myrrh, it’s just somehow sweet and sharp and unique and like nothing else. I’ve moved on to the more recent Chanel fragrances for men in the years since, but I still have two bottles of this for when I need my old friend. My doorway drug, as it were.

Chanel certainly has a way of matching names with fragrances, doesn’t it? I believe it is part of what makes the House of Chanel so great. Mr. Polge is simply amazing and a true master.
    Now on to my review:
This fragrance for men, Pour Monsieur…lives up to its name. It certainly doesn’t seem to suit the type of guy who is unsure of himself, immature, and/or wild. It is for a man who is opposite all that. Its a crisp scent that is both desirable and understated. Someone well established, mature, sharp, confident, who may have old fashioned values and appreciates luxury in a classy (not brassy) way.
This is a wonderful fragrance for all seasons, day or night, and is versatile for pretty much any occasion but I will warn others that it is not for every man! This is a VERY picky fragrance so I do not advise making this a blind buy.
When I smell this fragrance I can’t help but think of someone like the late Paul Newman (peace be with him). Yeah, some may be giggling at the mention because they think of the salad dressing but what some may not know is that he donated proceeds of his food line to charity. Yes ol’ Blue Eyes was not only a well known actor but also a philanthropist that helped sick children, preserved lands and funded college scholarships. A nice looking silver fox like him with heart and class to spare? Yes, can easily imagine him wearing something like this and carrying it WELL.
The sillage of this is modest, the longevity depends on your body chemistry but most Chanel fragrances are pretty well known for their staying power. Overall, a wonderfully classy and masculine scent.

My review of Pour Monsieur (The original) was very short and sweet and didn’t offer a great deal of insight due to me only wearing it a couple of times from a sample I had a few years back.
I had been looking for this Concentree for a while as they’re usually said to be much better (Egoiste for example) but I’m not sure.
Okay so this starts out from memory, very similar to Pour Monsieur in that it has a lemony citrus top which is actually slightly less sharp than the original. Lemon is not listed in the notes here which is surprising and could potentially be a mixture with other fruit and petitgrain for example which gives a slightly different character. My nose can detect the difference but not what’s causing it…if you get me?
A little spice, cardamom and resin in the heart as it settles maybe some vetiver? it’s clean and pleasant. As it dries down the main player is oakmoss, for me the oakmoss makes this scent what it is… Masculine.
I think mature but fresh is a good way to describe it.
The oakmoss can also could be perceived as dated because of this but I think Pour Monsieur Concentree strikes a very good balance which gives it a timeless quality and definitely has the classy well blended feel of classic Chanel fragrance.
Chanel will never be one of my favourite houses but having said that I own (or have owned)and enjoy many of their fragrances.
When I think about it there’s only Anateus that I don’t enjoy (and even that intrigues me still!) so really they’re not doing too badly.
Longevity is good on this one on my skin and the projection is subtle and classy but I think people who get close will smell you.

This is more of a rant than a review, but I found a old bottle of this from 1990 and WOW it is strong and smells wonderful. I compared it to a current bottle that I got recently and the new one is good but
