So many new niche houses, so little time. This one, Maison des Rêves, despite its French name, is located somewhere in Italy. They were kind enough to send me samples of their three perfumes about which I would otherwise in all likelihood never have known anything. This one, Poudre, reminded me immediately upon application of something in the La Perla line. There is something unpleasant in the very opening few seconds which smacks of mid-designer quality. However, that top note flies away leaving behind a creamy lemon tart-like scent, complete with buttery crust. Which is a bit surprising, given what they have to say about this perfume:
Boy oh boy. To me this is a fairly linear lemon tart! Lily of the valley, jasmine and any other possible flowers are simply undetectable amidst the creamy tart filling. This smells pretty good by the drydown, but is only for gourmand lovers. There is a bit of wood in the end, but the overall effect seems to be the scent of something edible. I would say that the powder to which the name of this perfume refers relates to the smidgeon of loukhoum-esque alkaline white powder in the drydown.
I have no idea how much these perfumes cost, but to me they seem more like designer than haute niche scents. Of course, the word ‘niche’ does not really mean much anymore. It used to mean difficult to find and acquire, as in you had to travel to another part of the world to grab a bottle. Maybe this house qualifies, then, since when one visits the website there is no way to buy but only a “contact” button. They also have a map giving directions to their boutique in some city in Italy. Strangely, the city is not named, though the streets are shown. I was unable to find the address or city name anywhere on their website. Maybe I should recognize the city? There appears to be a large body of water nearby. Could it be Napoli? Puo essere.

update: not Napoli–it’s Concesio, near Brescia. The water is a lake.

For me, this is the most linear of 3, and despite the smell of other 2 are better, this is what is most fixing and projection. Ee opens with a citrus note and powdery while the two on the same evidence, to smell a bit confused after an hour the place of citric woody and floral notes, becoming a powdery woody, with light floral nuances, leaving it with a more classic vibe.
