Description

DSQUARED² presents a fragrance for men and adds it to the collection called Potion. The fragrance was launched in 2013 in collaboration with perfumer Mathilde Bijaoui by transforming a color (Blue Cadet) into a fragrance.

The perfumer was inspired by a specific shade of blue to create a charismatic blend of fresh and aromatic accords on a woody base. Special charm is provided to the edition by the unique woody note blue hemlock absolute which provides a woody-aromatic-fruity face to the fragrance, with additions of black currant. This ingredient was created by using the technique of molecular distillation at the Mane Company.

Potion Blue Cadet arrives in a transparent flacon with bluish fluid and it is shaped like 2011 edition Potion. DSQUARED2 POTION BLUE CADET is available as 100 ml EDT, in an outer carton in blue, with a fine texture.

Interesting that this fragrance reminds people of AF, and Legend. I don’t get this at all on my skin.
For me, this is reminiscent slightly of the 90’s sport fragrances. The woodiness of Polo Sport for example; mixed with the citruses of Givenchy’s play series really allows for a shower fresh fragrance that’s great after the gym.
I get Locker Room with a touch of class. That sounds pretty terrible, but this frag would be great for hanging out and doing errands. While it’s not too complex, the dry down goes green and herbal which is different from the initial soft citrus blast you get at first spray.
Overall it’s missable, but still pleasant. Do not regret buying at 10$ for a 30 ml traveller. Wouldn’t necessarily recommend it without trying though as it could be pretty boring if you’re looking for something exciting.
Edit; okay, I’m starting to get the Fierce and Legend (and I find an Ed Hardy Skulls more similar) comparisons. Wearing this in pretty high heat but what’s great is that the quality is superior to the others just mentioned with respect to my sinuses, and reaction to synthetic ingredients. Alas, for those who enjoy fragrances that project, you’d be better off sticking to Mont Blanc, or Ed Hardy, and definitely Abercrombie (at least the original Fierce)

I simply don’t get the lukewarm reviews that this scent gets on this website. This one is excellent in my view, and although perhaps (tastefully) understated, is not in the least bit bland. Despite its sapphire blue colour liquid, I wouldn’t describe it as an aquatic. Instead it’s beautifully woody, dry, smooth, elegant and distinctive and performance is really good on me with moderate spraying. It’s even generated rave compliments from females some 6 hours after spraying…way after the time I could still smell it. I think it’s a year round scent that smells good and performs very well in all seasons/temperatures. I think it’s also very versatile, being especially suited to daytime casual (including jeanswear), sport, and work use. I like the classy bottle, weighted corrugated lid, and textured box too. To summarise, I’m completely satisfied with this purchase as evidenced by the backup 100 ml bottle I bought soon after at a very reasonable price in the UK for a genuine designer scent. Overall, I recommend it without hesitation.

Incredible simple fragrance without any passion! Little bit soapy scent and that’s it. Such a shame from Dsquared2! I am trying to find something positive thing about it, but unfortunately I cannot! Big disappointment!!!
I would not recommend it at all!!!

Maybe it has been a wrong impression but the first thing I thought when I smelled it (on a paper, I have to try it again on my wrist) was: Eternity!!!
I still keep the paper which I come back to it often and I still keep thinking this is his better performed twin.
I need to get out of doubts!
Moreover, the bottle, with its distinctive fluted flanks and cap, is very well designed, very classy and undoubtly this is the typical thing you would be proud to have in the shelf.
    7/10

This is something I’ve smelled before a blend of citrus and aquatic notes to create a really disappointing fragrance. Shame really because the others in the Potion collection are pretty good. The Original is okay but the Black Potion? Wow that’s a really good fragrance.
A few people mentioning how banal and unoriginal this fragrance is, I can agree with that in the main part but there’s a unique note in there must be that hemlock? I don’t know? But something about this fragrance stayed with me, not necessarily in a good way.
All in all it’s a cedar and citrus dominated fresh fragrance which I wasn’t fond of and does grab me, with so many better fragrances on the market why would you get this one as the longevity and projection are abysmal.

Got a sample of this. Nothing special. Very ordinary. Its not bad, just does not leave an impression.

It has nothing to do with the original which is a great scent in my books. Banal citruses and aquatic notes. Very feeble and close-to-the skin. Reminds me a bit of Shiseido Zen for Men. As much as I love the colour of the liquid in the bottle the fragrance itself is nothing to write home about..

The original potion is a very unique smell… Although I don’t like it at all because I hate spicy fragrances, I can’t deny the fact that it’s very unique.
Potion blue cadet is a softer, lighter version of the original and has nothing to do with it! It is summery, citrussy and fresh… The complete opposite!
Even though Potion have lost some of it’s originality, it remains one of the few scents that for me are perfect for the summer nights. This is not, by any means, light, airy or watery. It is a strong and deep perfume with good longevity and projection.

This one is a poor shadow of the wonderful Potion. Blue Cadet is a mix of sweet grapefruits (similar to that in Lacoste Essential Sport) with modern masculine sea fresh molecules. The longevity is low, the sillage is average. A mediocre fresh fragrance for the one season.

Great perfume. I prefer this one to the original Potion.
This one opens up similar to Dior Homme Cologne 2013, it has the same Bergamot note. Quite fresh and perfect for summer days.
I am actually deciding between this one and Dior Homme Cologne 2013. Can anyone help me decide? Thanks 🙂
    In overall: 8/10.

I think that is an ideal choice for people who want a pleasant and callsing frag to feel clean and fresh at job .If you dont like heavy and ovepowering frags you will love it. the only problem is tht it didn’t last more than 6 hours.Good frag but not the best.I prefere the He wood frags.

Managed to snag myself a 100ml Boxed Tester. The black currant is very dominant with the musk. It sprays on very light but becomes stronger the longer it sits on my skin which is a bonus. It has a nice woodiness to it mixed with the black currant. I detect a sea saltiness note which I do not see listed but thats what I smell. Overall it is a nice new scent for the spring/summer but nothing out of this world. Also, I do not understand why they named this Potion and put it in the same bottle as the original as this is nothing to do with the original whatsoever and personally this should have been called something else and given a totally different bottle.By doing this, as with other flankers like say A*MEN you usually get the dna of the original in there somewhere. But with this Potion it has nothing whatsoever to do with the original Potion. The longevity on me is pretty good and the sillage is good. A solid 7.5/10
