Wasko Look. This one doesn’t resemble Chloe, but Perceive Oasis does resemble Chloe a lot, almost identical.

does the smell of this resemble Chloe EDT or EDP? I heard that it did but see no reference like that on here. I am hesitant to buy until I confirm the Chloe scent. Thanks.

Totally disagree with the negative reviews on this perfume.
Perceive is a gem. The smell make me feel happy and calm.
It’s not a loud perfume. It’s soft, classy and delicate. Like a fine silk scarf wrapped around your neck.
Longevity is good. Sillage is moderate. You can wear it anytime. Worthy perfume for very good price.

to my nose this is a white floral with lots of oakmoss and musk that give it a somewhat unpleasant animalic BO scent in the drydown

I’m regularly sampling Avon’s newer offerings and have a thing for the ‘classics’ – Perceive is by far the classic that I always have to have. As much as it reminds me of my younger years – has a friend in college who was a distributor, so for 3 years or so I had nearly all scents – it also stayed consistently good and didn’t become reformulated, only a tad bit less long-lasting imo. Not like it ever was really long-lasting, I really wish it was..
On opening it’s sharp and almost synthetic and it gradually dries down to be a freesia-citrus-musk bomb, not so fruity but you get a bit of plum too as it dries down. It’s an elegant, clean yet feminine scent, no citrus in it at all probably that’s why I like it. Perfect for spring or summer – can’t see it in colder climate as it doesn’t really have the lasting power.
    A fave cheapie.

I bought this a few years ago around Christmas time, my 50ml bottle is shaped like a star, and the lid is on one of the star points, you unscrew it and its a splash on. I had purchased the male version of the cologne and liked it very much, and I’m sure the price was probable under $10.
This does smell like something that would have been produced in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Freesia, pear plum in the top. A little pepper and carnation to add spice. Grounded well with the musk/cedar/sandalwood. Its more a warm weather wear. I get a sour metallic note if I try to wear it in the winter. Took me a few years to appreciate it because I was always trying to wear it in a cold season, would get that metallic note that makes a persons stomach queasy. Something reminds me a bit of Beyoncé Heat. I think it might be the orchid. I think its a solid AVON creation. Sweet and fruity, best for warm temperature.

I wear this to work, feels professional, accomplished and polished to me, it dries down to a pleasant floral. I like it and cannot understand the low score either.

I’m very surprised of the negative comments. This is in my opinion the best and most interesting perfume from Avon, and I’m a representative for 3 years! I love this perfume is so unique and smells actually expensive. Although I’m a representative I’m not actually wearing avon perfumes, only occasionally. I have an impressive collection of perfumes (dior, estee Lauder and Lancome are my main brands). To me perceive is the only avon perfume that comes close to them. Also the discontinued range from Christian Lacroix. Those were really nice perfumes as well. I think that perceive might react different with the chemistry of the skin, otherwise I can’t understand how not to love this perfume

Great smell from Avon. I have it and i like it is just not my personal taste and I do not use it often. If you ask me it is very old formula and type of fragrance as It’s launch year tells, it smells typically like most of the 2000s fragrances.

I have the lotion. Just started using it. I can’t say I love this but definitely like it. It really reminds me of something I have already smelled before. Before coming on to this site to make a review I was trying to think what the scents were in this fragrance. I thought it smelled like sunflower or jasmine which was wrong but I was on the right track anyways. By my own opinion and conclusion from reviews the most noticeable thing in this fragrance is the floral. Then the pepper, then the sandalwood and musk. I didn’t know there was pepper in this just by smelling it at first. I thought it was gonna be sandalwood and/or amber and/or some musk… and it was but with pepper! which is funny because I just read the new article posted; “Blackpepper, piper nigrum, ブラックペッパー 11/30/16 10:15:55 by: Matvey Yudov.” I left a comment saying I should experience some pepper scents. This fragrance uses the white not black pepper but I now knowing this fragrance has pepper in it at all I can tootallyy smell the pepperyness. I smell the floral stronger than the pepper though. After I got done sniffing the hell out of my hand my nose definitely feels like it inhaled a couple pepper grounds, like that fresh sensitive feeling and feels just a little bit almost like I could sneeze. If the pepperyness was stronger I think I would, glad the floral is dominant or this scent may be unbearable for me. I think the floral notes are the most reason I like this scent. I am enjoying the peppryness but not as much as I thought i would. My nose literally feels weird from intensely sniffing pepper. I think I am on the fence with this one. I can understand why other are saying this smells chemically. Since I recognize this smell from somewhere I have been trying to think of where and my mind keeps thinking about paint. Like a spray paint or artsy oil paint.. or maybe not paint at all I am not totally sure why its making me think paint. I am a weird person and enjoy some chemical smells I don’t happen to get grossed out by the way paint, crayons or markers smell. I like those weird smells. I cant’t pinpoint where I have smelled this before and it could be a few things I guess. I suppose I would not say this is a unique scent then. If you are a not a picky perfume snob and you think you would enjoy this even a little you should know I bought this (150ml) body lotion off notino.com (beautyspin) for less than $2! lol which is why I bought it. I bought it blind, I did not sample it at all. But it’s Avon & I don’t feel like I can go wrong with Avon. They generally have decent quality stuff. I am not a super picky person about fragrances, I will wear some perfumes that I more or less dislike. I recognize not everything is all about me. Not everyone smelling my perfume will enjoy it obviously, so when I wear one I dislike I still know someone else who smells me might like it and that’s good! plus I like variety and I don’t dislike a lot of perfumes anyways since I am not extremely picky. It’s not usually a problem for me. I am glad though that this fragrance does not smell like soap (my opinion. I see some think that) or candy. Candy smelling fragrances are the ones most often that I dislike and get those weird headaches from. Avon Perceive is very floraly significantly and immediately followed by pepperyness… I guess it reminds me a little bit of being up close and personal with a real rose. Roses often have a weird pepperyness to them..the floral doesn’t smell rosy though. Many would label this one as “grandma” I think. I love “grandma” scents. My bff always teasing me about how I smell like her grandmother lol.
oh and I think this is a good fall/winter smell for day or night. I don’t think this is a good fragrance to wear on a warm or hot spring/summer day, perhaps night. It’s 100% a night time fragrance in my opinion but i really think anytime is okay.
(Update ~2-3 hours later) I feel like longevity is the lesser end of moderate.. or moderately moderate. def not lasting 6 hours. Silliage lessening as well…obv since the smell is getting weak. I applied this fragrance just a few hours ago after my shower, again, its the lotion version so its really supposed to be on my skin. Keep in mind I don’t use huge globs of lotion. I use like a couple tiny little pea sized drops and apply it to my body while I’m still damp from the shower. It’s turned into a very very light fair fragrance, not strong at all, doesn’t seem powdery or soapy to me. According to my nose, still smells floraly, peppery smell flattened out a lot, somewhat easier to detect the musk and sandalwood. Do not think it smells chemically. I like it. Dabbing some more on my hand right now….. k.. I like it better fresh out of the bottle when the scent is stronger and more prominent. Seems the floral smell will remain the same from start to final finish but the strength it dies down after ~90 minutes-ish. I have not picked up any fruity notes at all. Pears not exactly a super strong scent though I’m sure its there but really super faint/unnoticeable.

It’s a surprise to see so many negative comments. This fragrance is some kind of legend and probably one of the masterpieces in Avon. I’m feelin’ it, it’s cool, light and sweetly floral 😉

This fragrance is a legend, winter time especially and it smells so expencive, unique and lovely, so feminine! On me its not strong, its soft and pleasent all the time until you just have to spray again, no overpowering moment with it and thats good.

Sorry, but I can’t stand the oily note in this perfume. It leaves the feeling of oily, greasy, impure skin. It shouldn’t be placed in a crystal bottle. Maybe matte crystal would work…

I have had so many comments when wearing this perfume that I felt like a celebrity! I used to wear it most days and it has such a lovely dry down and it lingers in the air everywhere you go. I am not sure how to describe it but it has freesia vanilla orchid pear ylang ylang
sandalwood and together they create this wonderful uplifting fragrance that gets noses twitching everywhere. Have worn really expensive perfumes but Perceive got all the nice comments.

I remember when this perfume was first launched, it was marketed as a “mood altering fragrance”- I remember thinking that all fragrances have the potential to be “mood altering”. I was pregnant at the time and was given a sample by a friend who was an Avon rep, it smelt wonderful and cheered me up all through my pregnancy. I agree with others about the body chemistry thing though- as soon as my son was born it started to smell horrible on me and I haven’t worn it since!

When I originally did a review based on the tester page of the magazine, my experience of this scent was quite different to second time round (same happened when testing via the magazine page for avon little black dress). Originally I said I said it was subtle but perfect if you just want something subtle. Kind of light scents wafting on a breeze, a bit like the picture on the advert indicates. I could not detect any pepper or spicy flowers as usually this stands out for me when they are in perfumes.
This time round I could detect general floral scent, a little spicy floral. Not obviously modern but not exactly an older style floral (90s/80s) but edging on it. Avon says gardenia is a main component but this is not listed here. Not overly strong. Not overly fruity like some avons.
I wonder if this has been reformulated or something. It said it was formulated in 2000 and its 2015 when I write this so I imagine its fairly popular. Flankers have been made of it (ie perceive dew) which is now discontinued but the original is still here. It also comes as a deodorant which can be found as cheap as £1 when on offer. It can also sometimes be found as a 10ml version and is one of the cheaper Avon perfumes (price wise).

Noto demasiado el clavel en este perfume, odio el olor a clavel en los perfumes, lástima, porque el resto de combinación de sus notas son buenísimas.

For me it is mainly carnation, pepper and freesia. One of the best carnation scent I’ve smelled. While other carnation scents, including some designers, often smell like an aerosol spray for teenagers, this one is very elegant and sensual. I love carnation and freesia, and the peppery notes give them that crisp grassy breeze and uplift. I love how the sweetness is counter-balanced by white pepper, cedar and musk. It is a feminine, confident and positive scent.

Despite this being a very affordable perfume, i find it is a very nice one! It is peppery mostly and after comes flowery and fruity…i wear it either winter/fall day or spring day/night. I would not wear it on a summer day because the pepper and warmth would make it unbearable and sneezy…but if there is a freshness in the air it acctually adds a nice touch…
Update: this perfume has really grow on me, there are a lot of days where i need to wear it for some reason, it ads happines if i can say that.
Today i tried Nina Ricci L’air perfume and it’s opening was peppery and flowery , so it instantly reminded me of perceive , i went on to smell perceive to compare them and i found myself liking perceive a lot more ,it is more powerfull ,it has stronger character! i prefere it

I owned this perfume seven years ago. I had little cute bottle of it. I liked this smell a lot, I can still remember how fresh, cool and light it was! At first the smell was a little peppery, and then I felt very delicate combination of my favourite ylang and some sweet fruits, especially plums. It’s also a little bit vanilla, I think. So, for me this fragrance was very peaceful, calm and delicate.

  26. :

I remember this being marketed when it first came out as having chemical properties to lift your emotions. Well, if white pepper turns you on this will certainly do the trick. Thankfully fresh ground pepper does indeed make me happy. I get about two seconds of freesia followed by 3 – 4 hours of lovely white pepper with some faint, nondescript flowers in the background. Then it fades into a barely there vanilla with a pinch of white pepper. Even with all this pepper it somehow avoids being spicy. This is not a heavy oriental. This is a light, clean floral with a pepper kick.

Perceive was created by Christopher Sheldrake, who now works for niche house Serge Lutens and has created some all time classics.
I was therefre surprised to find that I didn’t like this much, although the drydown is very good and much softer than the opening shreiky notes.
I don’t recognise the notes listed because I found this soapy and aquatic, drying down to a soft, musky finish with a hint of pleasant sandalwood.
This still has the impressive claim to fame that it is now the cheapest Christopher Sheldrake scent in the world!

This is one of the perfumes I used to buy very often a few years ago. After a while though, all that I could smell on the streets was this scent, so I gave up on it :P. And now, I think this is a too soft and cheap soapy fragrance.

Even though i don’t like this smell any longer, given that a lot of my high school teachers wore this … lol … not my fondest memories… i must say i did enjoy a few bottles of it back in the day. To me this smells like a little Miss that wants to break away from the pink smells and act more mature. Something that i think we all wanted to be in our teens – sophisticated and womanly. =)

A soft floral yet slightly musky scent, with a hint of plum. The pepper is quite distinctive in this fragrance but matches well and gives it a bit of oomph. Lasts really well. Have used it time and time again for years. Always got compliments from friends.

It stays light on the skin but it’s quite a strong floral, I like it though I don’t wear it often because it doesn’t suit my style. It’s a cold and fresh fragrance, almost iced and the bottle resemble this very well, and I prefer sweeter more delicate ones.

I’m usually fond of the freesia-note, but in this it is too cloying and somewhat distasteful. When used by someone occupying the next seat or the seat in front of you at the theatre or in a church, this fragrance may become rather offensive.
And I think it’s actually beneficial to the potential buyers to read even the most negative reviews, which however describe some personal experiences, subjective as they are 🙂

  52. :

    5 out of 5

So many negative reviews! I had a bottle of Perceive as a gift eight or ten years ago and enjoyed it very much. Notes I could detect: pepper, freesia, ylan ylang and musk. Staying power and sillage are very good considering the price.

I bought this for myself 5 years ago as I liked how it smelled in the catalog. And I still theoretically like it however it was a pure disaster with my chemistry so I gave it away to my friend who happened to love it and is on her 2nd bottle already. I must admit I really like this one on her. I cannot explain why I couldn`t stand it on me though..

  54. :

I find Perceive a very pleasant light, scent. Avon catalogue describes it as floral. I like the combination of pear, freesia and musk. I don’t really find it very oriental. The bottle looks like a piece of ice, not really the best design.
I could wear this for example at work.
EDIT. I bought a set of Perceive today, and now I find it more oriental, but not strongly. I really like it, it is perfect for this season (fall), too.

  55. :

Since Avon has proved to be so good to date thought I would try out one from their archive. Or at least one older than a year. Read about the pheromones that are in this, which made it extra interesting. Turns out this fragrance needs a bit to make it interesting!
It is freesia, freesia, freesia followed by some carnation and plum. There are some similarities between this and Sun, Moon and Stars but Sun, Moon and Stars is much more complex and longer lasting. Perceive isn’t bad but painfully boring and plain. My wooly winter socks seem positively exciting in comparison.
Don’t get me wrong: there is nothing wrong with a sweet, floral perfume but I just don’t need another in my wardrobe. Do you?

  56. :

    3 out of 5

What I can smell is mainly damask plum and blueberry with some unidentified jasmine-like flowers on a base of artificial civet. I have hardships in classifying this perfume indeed. Floral? -I do smell some flowers but this is not a floral. Oriental? – Not exactly. It lacks the spices, woods, herbs, resins, or whatsoever which makes an oriental but most importantly depth. To my nose, it has a kinda artificially animalistic quality which is not pleasant. Indeed smelling -and wearing- this perfume causes nasal congestion in me accompanied by a burning/irritation like uneasy feeling in my upper respiratory tract. This really surprises and slightly upsets me, as to this day I tried maybe countless perfumes, and only two of them caused this reaction, Perceive being one. I must be allergic to that plum note I guess, or something definitely artificial (chemical) which I am yet to discover.

I bought this perfume because the bottle reminded me of the original bottle of Donna Karan’s Chaos which has now been re-released. I hunted everywhere to buy this perfume to find it was out of stock and taken off the market. As it has now been re-released I have a bottle but also having bought the black cashmere I much prefer the later.

Perceive is a beautiful floral scent. Starts with intense floral which after five minutes settles into a floral bouquet with freesia being the most prominent. As it matures on the skin it becomes light and fresh and in the dry down it becomes a mix of fruity, floral and a little powdery.
On the whole, great scent and good sillage. I like it.

Dear Kittycat63, I must thank you for your comment because all this while a lot of people simply have no manners in giving their personal perfume reviews. They aren’t careful with the words that they use in giving their personal comments. Imagine, if the person who made this very fragrance read these rude comments… well, he’ll definitely be hurt. To satisfy every single nose with any given fragrance is just impossible. That’s a fact, but it doesn’t mean that we can liberally spit things out in an impetuous way to tell other people how we feel about a perfume. So please, have some manners dear reviewers. Should we feel unhappy with a particular perfume and intend to comment about it openly, then we have to be very selective about the words to use to describe it.
Ok, back to this fragrace. It was lucky of me to be able to buy this fragrance about 8 years ago. I managed to buy it only after about two years it was launched. Sadly, now it is no longer produced. I only have two words to describe this gem: amazingly beautiful. Dear Monsieur Christopher Sheldrake, thank you for this creation of yours. It’s one of your best!

I had this in university 8 years ago, I would have reordered it but it was discontinued. I loved it as an everyday everywhere scent. It was there but it wasn’t there. It was hard to use too much of it to a point of it being overdone(on me). I am still learning about perfumes so please try to visualize my review 🙂 It smelled like very icy cold water on the top of a mountain. and like paper. It was clean smelling. Later on I would smell powdery and gentle. My boyfriend at the time loved it. If I ever get it again I’ll do another review, since I will probably have a different experience due to body chemistry. I didn’t know people hated this scent! lol i thought it was good.

  61. :

    3 out of 5

I just noticed that one reviewer on here said that she finds Perceive to be an “ugly, ugly” perfume and that she thinks it’s suitable for old ladies. How incredibly rude!! As for the “B.O. stench following me around ..” that another reviewer mentioned she smelled when she wore this perfume – well, presumably it’s her own chemistry that affected the perfume that way, or perhaps it actually was stale body odor!!
I find it curious that some people have such strange views. Why should anyone think that old ladies should be the ones who should wear what may be seen (in some people’s views) as being unpleasant perfumes?? That’s a very peculiar, and nasty, attitude. Everyone can choose to wear the perfumes that they like and that they feel happy wearing. That might mean that a more mature lady may prefer light, fruity, fresh perfumes (and smell good in them!) and a younger woman might prefer deeper, more intense perfumes (and, to other people’s noses, might smell unpleasant!). Either way, everyone is an individual with individual tastes, regardless of their age, and has a right to wear what makes them happy without other people being nasty and sneering about them.
Anyone who has such narrow minded views as the reviewer I mentioned above who made the nasty comment about old ladies should take a good hard look at themselves and try to be nicer. Maybe that would make them more pleasant people.
For the record, Perceive is actually a very likeable, fresh, light, feminine, AGELESS, perfume and is one of Avon’s better ones – and it DEFINITELY doesn’t smell of either old ladies (if there is actually a definitive old lady smell – which there isn’t!), pigs, stale socks or body odor (which some other people have likened it to)!

The freesia comes through loud and clear in this bright floral fragrance. Everything else in here is a backdrop. There is the faintest suggestion of a hint of powdery warmth, possibly coming from the musk note, but in the end, this is a cool, crisp fragrance for freesia lovers.

  63. :

    4 out of 5

Even a great nose behind it couldn’t make it bearable for me.
This might be due to Avon using some cheap ingredients. This smells so synthetic and atificial, almost as if you would smell a really bad knock off of something and you instantly know there is something wrong with it. To me it smells the most cheap of all Avons I have tested. Sorry, not for me 😉

We’ve had Perceive lying around on our bathroom shelf forever. It’s a very, very sharp pear scent with lots of pepper and white flowers. It’s a little green, a little fruity and sweet, a little sour and very, very high-pitched and strong. It doesn’t smell bad – but it stops short of smelling good. Obviously, this is a problem.
Like people, perfumes that bend over backwards to please the lowest common denominator usually come off as annoying.

i dont care for the perfume spray, but the powder is really nice and light. i buy the powder version and it smells very nice and soft. the spray, sweet, citrusy and comes on way too strong.

I bought this yesterday and it was a big surprise for me! I had years ago a spray of this and I didn’t liked it very much, but the perfume I truly love it, especially the top notes in the first 5 seconds and the base! It’s very special, not too sweet, not too fresh, not strong, but not too light, just wearable. I don’t find it oriental at all, it’s a floral aquatic with some fruits. It reminds me of Yves Rocher Fleur de l’aube. If would have less white pepper it would be just perfect. Anyway,it worths what it costs and deserves a try!

what to say about this one i found it rather pungent and nothing struck me as exciting with this one its not something i buy regularly and wont make a habit of buying i dislike the bottle design it really doesnt say much about the perfume … maybe thats why its called perceive.

I got it in body powder several years ago. I liked it so much that I got 10. I like to sprinkle on my sheets before going to bed – it’s like aromatherapy to me. Sometimes I prefer buying the powder rather than the fragrance.

I had Perceive about ten years ago. It did smell good and was Oriental on me anyhow. I did notice that the color changed from blue to green after awhile. Then when I used it , it was different, smelled off. I have come to the conclusion that it can spoil over time. If you can get it fresh it smells good. However , it’s discontinued so getting a new fresh bottle might be impossible now. It’s Avon and not expensive so it’s forgivable that it doesn’t keep for years.

Perceive belongs to that enigmatic group of perfumes I think of as “non-scents”. Also in this group are Simply by Clinique, White Couture by Givenchy, L’Eau par Kenzo, Yohji original for Women, 212 for Women by Carolina Herrera, and, marginally, Pleasures Mineral by Estee Lauder.
These perfumes seem a conconction of synthetic notes that try painfully hard not to be “perfume-y”. Despite the stated ingredients, there are no discernable florals and the musk bases are white, thin, and synthetic. Often people’s first description of these fragrances is “alcohol”. The abovementioned perfumes are fairly interchangeable, being differentiated only by a wan floral here, a shy pepper there, or a tiresome marine note. Perceive is no exception, although there is a slight warmth to it that, while clashing with all the sanitizer, does make it slightly more approachable than others in its class. On the plus side, it does not have the replusive yet compelling feel of a rectory buffet that most other Avon scents do.
This group of perfumes is better suited to being a Demeter scent line called “Hospital”, with its santizer top notes covering a skanky diaper note (supposed “musk”). With no florals to round things out, or spices to distract, Perceive and its kin will roam the halls of General Hospital forever.
p.s. 3 hours later…a warm, soft vanilla floral drydown. What a surprise, it’s rather pleassant.

I see why this is a child of Christopher Sheldrake, it is a perfume with it´s own unique identity. It is very warm and distinctive, it is not a mild perfume. Only wear it if you are truly confident !! It is the spicy version of Versus Versace vintage and has a lot in common with Revlon Absolutely Fabulous!
    Good luck!

Perceive has been one of my favourite fragrances for many years.
I think it’s the top notes that make this scent almost irresistible for me. The pepper and the freesia make me feel like there’s an undescribable aura surrounding me.
The only downside for me would be that there’s a bit too much vanilla in the base.
