I bought a large bottle of Bourbon French’s Patchouli edc in a spray bottle several years ago. The bottle is still full, kept in its purple drawstring pouch. Every year or so I’ll have a spritz just for the sensation of this. I’ll be honest, this is not a sanitized, elegant, or sweetened patchouli. It is rough and smells like the earthen floor of a country stable. If that is something that appeals to you (and it is appealing to me sometimes), then this very earthy patchouli is for you. I sprayed a little at the base of my neck, and the shirt I’d been wearing held on to the fragrance, scenting my entire closet. And that was a teeny dribble of a spray. Even after washing the shirt it still retained a whiff of the scent. Totally “hippie” patchouli that makes me daydream about cashmere shawls shipped from India packed with patchouli. That was how it was used 18th/19th century: for insect repellent on the long voyage from India to Europe & Britain. Ladies would wear these gorgeous cashmere shawls smelling of patchouli. Anyway, I do love the purity of this edc. It’s straight up unadulterated patchouli.
