Description

In May, Chanel launches Les Eaux De Chanel, a new line of three Eaux de Toilette (Paris – Deauville, Paris – Biarritz, Paris – Venise). The line is named after the travels and ties between Gabriel Chanel and certain cities throughout her career and offer “a sense of freshness that is as emotional as the memory of a journey.” The creations are all signed by perfumer Olivier Polge.

It is 1920. For Gabrielle Chanel, Venice is love at first sight and a fresh start. Deeply shocked by the death of her beloved Boy Capel, she lets herself be roused by the bustle of this contrasting city, where the personalities and influentials of the entire world cavort. The Byzantine and Baroque art treasures that she discovered here shaped her eye and her taste and become one of the main sources of inspiration of her style.

Paris – Venise is a fresh oriental fragrance. It includes notes of neroli in combination with ambery accords of vanilla and tonka.

It is available as a 125 ml Eau de Toilette.

Paris – Venise was launched in 2018.

This scent has a bit of a retro vibe–I smell some 19 and 22 in its DNA, but it’s much lighter and sunnier, overall. Classic signature Chanel–I cannot wait to own this.

This is my favorite out of the three from this line, with Biarritz being a close second.
It really depends on what you want:
Biarritz is zingy lemon + lily of the valley while Venise is pulpy orange + creamy white flowers.
I love the drydown the most.. It’s been a couple of hours now, and it smells like a softer version of N22 with more orange.
Just lovely! Like an orange flavored cream cake.
It is not really sweet at all though!
Looking at the notes I was afraid it was going to smell like nothing but a weak, sickly sweet/watery vanilla, but thankfully it turns out this is not the case at all!
Can’t wait to wear this on warm, sunny days in the spring of 2019.

This smells, to my nose, like the most delicate orange-scented cake. In a cooler environment, it disappears…in the heat, it blooms…must be within inches to smell, though. Love at first sniff!

Second time giving a chance to Venise…first time opening was a little harsh to my nose…and as the scent vanishes so quickly and I got busy, I didnt even remember to sniff any further changes that day.
This second time: first spray is a harsh citrus (I usually like citrus openings) but I m not nose trained enough to pinpoint what is the harsh note…after 10 mins or so it gets a much softer scent.
I was daydreaming when I first read about this new scent, while waiting for my sample to arrive : Venise, artistic and passionate, so heavily full of history, so attractive and unforgetable…so I imagined Chanel Paris-Venise to be an artistic adventure, a passionate juice…Not, IMHO, not even in the bottle’s design. Close to the skin sillage and longevity is poor. Safe for office, some may like, try b4 you buy.

This has a beautiful light opening. Nothing about this scent is overwhelming. First spray is an initial blast of citrus but rapidly dries down to a faint powdery, barely noticeable skin scent. There is absolutely no sillage. It’s too bad this could have been a great perfume.

Lately with their recent ‘fumes, Chanel seems to be trying to appeal to those who balk at the heavier Chanel scents, as it seems their recent offerings are barely skin scents with poor longevity. I am the opposite of _christine_ below my review, in that for me, of the 3 that Chanel recently released, I like Paris-Venis the best. Yes, it is powdery, but it is soft powdery to my nose, anyway. A very soft floral. A bit of citrus peeks in now and then, making this seem like a clean scent, but there is also a woodiness that peeks in on occasion, so it’s kind of an interesting scent, if you can detect it for longer than 30 minutes. For me, this is definitely more about the accords than the actual notes listed here.
I do like this, soft scent and all, and I would definitely be buying a bottle of this, or at least putting it on my holiday wish list….if this had better longevity.
Side-note and just personal preference: I wish they created nicer bottles. But that reflects on my rating not at all, it’s just a personal preference.

Of the three Chanel Eaux, Paris-Venise is my least favorite. It’s very nice, but a bit more tonka and powder than I’d like in such a light scent.
Paris-Venise also has the worst longevity of the three. I don’t expect these to be big projection scents, but I’d like them to last a few hours. While Paris-Deauville is still present at the end of the workday, Paris-Venise had disappeared before I finished my morning commute.

I bought this and Antaeus at the same time, and I’m only speaking in terms of longevity, but this surprisingly outlasts antaeus by hours. Maybe it’s just my skin, but this lasts and lasts. Smells very soft, and a little feminine for my tastes (28 year old male), but it is a very nice floral scent.

It smells like a cross between Flower by Kenzo and Chanel Chance. My least favorite from the Les Eaux line.

  10. :

    5 out of 5

From the dispointments on the note of tonka from dozens of mainstream designer scents as well as a few so-called high-end lines or niches, I thought Paris-Venise would be the least favorable from Les Eaux line, on the contrary, turns out to be the best.
It opens with a bounch of fresh and zesty orange blossoms, sweet and slightly powdery almond and tonka bean with a touch of leathery vanilla underneath which, as a whole, reminds me of guerlinade. Just take this opening as a missing link between Guerlain Tonka Imperiale (or in some extent, Oliver’s ealier work Valentino Uomo, without the hazelnut note) and Chanel Eau de Cologne, and we are talking about the same quality in here!
While the drydown is a bit cliche to my nose, much of a synthesis of Gabrielle (or equivalently YSL Babydoll / Jour d’Hermes, or even the accord-wise junctions of AdP Fico di Amalfi and Un Jardin sur le Nil) and Frederic Malle Lipstick Rose (or a reduced form of Misia EDT/EDP), with some new twist though. All in all, a decent feminine from Chanel and fairly priced.
    Rating: 7.5/10

I tried this today at Nordstrom’s. 2 sprays on my left wrist. Top notes are tres Chanel! Think Eau Premiere L’Eau with neroli. The powdery notes come in the drydown and smells A LOT like Narciso Poudree. Totally light, 2 to 3 hours longevity, sits close to the skin. It’s not going to wow anybody, would make a very safe gift.

    Luxury body splash
Qiute weak … but nice ..
Still won’t ever guess is it chanel or some cheaper cologne
I have to say that Chanel do it always right… they scents are all very nice
anyway 120 Euro for 20-30 minutes of fresh unremarkable cologne..?
no thank I will pass this one
and I was thinking that 70 euro for Guerlain AA colognes that last 20 minutes with all and all is too much.

From the three new releases, Venise is a clear favorite.
Elegant and refined, very Chanel style.
Beautiful citrus neroli opening, thereafter soft florals followed by a creamy drydown, slightly powdery. I love the alluring laguage, gives me an impression of a calm flirtation.

This from the three Les Eaux is my favourite. And not because people think that this will be a crowd pleaser and just because in this one I find the new approach in the road of the fragrance experience. Absolutely loved the first spray which made me to think about sparkles and watching the shooting stars in the night sky. So, so good beginning. It is followed by the powder accord which is not my bit in the fragrance, but that melts away so quickly on my skin, so I really don’t mind. And the drydown keeps me happy with smile on my face in kinda beautiful and fresh bubble gum aroma gently finishing its amazing woodsy moment in very gentle way. Gorgeous, feminine and modern fragrance. Yes, it is love.
Edit: Few days sampling and testing and I got impression that I am wearing 3in1, if I can say so: No5/L’eau+Chance EDP/Eau so fresh+CM/CM intense. Honestly, I am feeling bits of all those fragrances during the whole time the fragrance stays on my skin. It is very nice and puzzling somehow:-)

Of the three new Eaux, Venise has the most obvious Olivier Polge touch, with its powdery base of orris, tonka and vanilla. Fresh, modern, feminine and utterly unremarkable.

Wow, this is oh so pretty and just screams Chanel. A gorgeous light sparkly fragrance in the vein of Gabrielle. I would purchase a FB without hesitation but I already have Gabrielle, 1932, Chanel eau Premiere and L’eau so I don’t think it will really add anything to my wardrobe currently.

  17. :

    4 out of 5

Classy, subdued, very wearable. Venise starts very lemony on me then dries to powdery neroli and iris. I do appreciate the iris/orris in this as it’s noticeable and done well. Venise reminds me of L’Instant Magic dialed way down and without the sweetness. It has a close trail. I am not smelling much tonka and am surprised at the high votes for it. It’s a beautiful scent, but doesn’t excite me enough for a full bottle right now.

  18. :

    3 out of 5

Paris-Venise is a beautiful, sparkling citrus mist upon first spray, then it’s all warm, fuzzy dry down (similar smelling to Chance EDP). A very well-blended fragrance, leaning towards feminine with it’s floral/vanilla quality. It does require frequent reapplication due to its lack of longevity (my one complaint). Gorgeous bottle too!

I am very underwhelmed by Paris Venise, it is so soft that after 20 mn I can hardly smell it…I don’t find it to be remotely oriental, it is more to my nose a soft vanilla, with some citrus in there, it smells refined but I will never get the big bottle…I have used almost all my sample and I get a faint powdery vanilla, with maybe a hint of neroli ..but done so subtle…longevity is awful..and projection is weak..,I know it is called les Eaux, but this is definitely not outstanding in any way..it has a bit of a soapy undertone…now, it smells nice, but it isn’t like the Chanel quality at all…Gabrielle is more floral and has more punch, this is definitely the crowd pleaser of the three., feminine also….I see it more suited for fall and winter…for the price, no thank you..Update: I did purchase a bottle from France and I wear it with pleasure, alThough the lack of projection frustrates me..,the soft fresh powdery edge is pretty, and pretty perfumes I love

Very pleasant and wearable perfume, considering that I’m not a fan of vanilla note. Not very long lasting but that’s perfectly fine for an “eau”. Powder and violets are the notes that I smell the most and I love them!

Chanel and I does not always get along, but Paris – Venise stole my heart in 20 minutes. Light, airy but there around me, teasing me, its mild and soft, gentle but obvius. A little bit of Gabrielle-dna but not a copy of her. True Chanel-soul. This will be a favourite all summer long, and after that – I have to buy a new bottle. Hooked.

  22. :

    5 out of 5

I am so pleased with my blind purchase! It begins sparkling as a lightly sweet citrus with pink pepper and neroli on me, mellows out to a creamy floral and dries down to soft, creamy, light vanilla, light musk. Totally delicious, comfortable, happy, sexy and comforting – not at all overbearing, but projects decently on me and lasted for over 6 hours. I love the sprayer on this – perfect application! I’ve already received compliments.

  23. :

Paris – Venise is a perfect fragrance for everyone that loves the feel of grand fragrance without all the heaviness. It whispers seductively instead of shouting. It strikes a balance between sweet and sparkling citrusy notes & piquantly aromatic and earthy notes of geranium and iris. This scent is elegant and somehow melancholic, sophisticated yet lightly provocative.

  24. :

First impressions are very fresh and clean, like stepping out of a bracing shower. The typical Chanel DNA is deeply rooted in this fragrance, with the soapy citrus reminiscent of all the beloved classics. Unisex and summery.
    Gabrielle’s flanker.

  25. :

    5 out of 5

This is so fresh yet creamy to my nose with that tonka bean. On me, the benzoin is also very noticeable, which I absolutely love! Also, the neroli and citrus notes add a spark of cleanliness.
Fresh, warm & breezy, but soothing and creamy too. I get a close reminder of YSL Manifesto in the opening (which is also heavily concentrated with tonka). However, as Venise dries down, it takes on its own special character.

This is very lovely clean and crisp scent.
The elegance of Chanel is definitely there.
So nice, I imagine myself wearing it.
I consider it feminine, sexy and interesting.
    New love.

  27. :

    4 out of 5

Very Chanelesque. A slightly creamy and powdery citrus/floral. Very feminine.
On me, the neroli and powder take centre stage … a little too powdery for me, but this is just my first wearing/impression. Lasts about 6 hours.
This would be a very good fragrance to wear after a shower, but an expensive one!

This one is the sexy one out this trio ..so fun out tonight
Also these really smell like CHANEL like all the ones before the billion dollar house.thanks CHANEL for bringing back the smell goods..

I Purchased all three and this is my favorite . Soft and creamy with a hint of powder. It sits close to skin. Very elegant and office friendly. Might need a backup bottle.

I have been searching for a powdery perfume that’s not too grandma/ cosmetic/ synthetic and I have finally found it! I’m so in love with it right now. First spray smells like combination of orange and lemon, then it changed subtly to slight benzoin sweetness, then it mellowed into powdery scent that is soothing and comforting. I feel very soft and gentle wearing this. Just a layman’s review on a fragrance:)
An update after using it form 3 weeks. I still love it so much, sadly the longevity is poor, zero Sillage. I hope chanel comes out with the edp version.

  31. :

Small update: I think this is the perfect embodiment of the ‘new’ Chanel elegance. Smells a bit soapy, but more or less refined. I think this is a safe blind buy and will please almost anyone. Inoffensive and just … lovely. Color me impressed. For such a seemingly normal fragrance, this is truly a modern Chanel scent.

Neroli (or what we’re told is neroli) does a strange thing on my skin. Scents dominated by it, or orange blossom, turn bad on my skin. Venise does this, but only momentarily. Then it goes in a very playful, glorious direction. A direction that I had wished Gabrielle went, even though they’re two entirely different scents. The vanilla and tonka are definitely very present, but it doesn’t go in a gourmand direction at all – instead, it goes in a creamy floral one with jasmine and soft pink pepper. Powdery at times, violet and orris help with that.
This does, at times, remind me of Gabrielle, though. It’s the direction Chanel are taking, that seems to be the case. I don’t think I mind this, at least not for these scents. It might get tiresome but at least, for now, it’s fairly refreshing.
Longevity is poor to moderate, lasting but 2-3 hours. For the price, and the amount you get, I don’t think its altogether horrible. This was done without any moisturizer so it might extend with the accompanying body products. Not a bad release, I rather like it.
