Panthere Cartier for women of Cartier

Share:

Description

The magical and sensible classical women perfume Panthere is maybe a bit old-fashioned, but still it is luxurious and unique. The woman who chooses it will get gentleness and warmth. In the top notes there is a citrus freshness of tangerine and grapefruit spiced with pepper and thin spicy note of ginger together with incense and rose. The heart bloomed with the abundance of exotic flower (jasmine, gardenia, tuberose, freesia, orris, narcissus and ylang-ylang) in which woodsy notes of vetiver and spicy note of nutmeg are meddled in. In the base there are oak moss, bean Tonka, patchouli, sandal, civet, musk, amber, vanilla and cedar. The perfume was made by Alberto Morillas in 1986.

Testing this tonight, 2 sprays to the back of my hand (from a decant courtesy of the lovely Indigo – thank you!).
I own and love La Panthere. My first immediate reaction to this vintage Panthere is that Cartier committed a faux pas, marketing the modern one under virtually the same name; the current version isn’t even a distant relative of this.
To me, Panthere smells as if it debuted far earlier than 1986. I would have attributed far greater age to it, guessing it to originate in the 60s, perhaps? To me, the very late 70s and 80s were characterised by those bombastic Orientals: Cinnabar, Opium and Poison; I know Panthere is a floral oriental, but it doesn’t “fit” with those. I am reminded of something else, but – irritatingly – the memory is dancing slightly out of reach. I hate it when this happens.
On first spraying, I found it really quite unpleasant (this frequently happens when I test vintage perfumes) and my instinctive reaction was to scrub it off; within 40 minutes though, those overpowering top notes have worn off and it now smells quite lovely.
The tuberose in this reminds me of that in Cacharel’s LouLou. It has been voted the predominant note and it is – once that powerful opening has burned off – but now I am smelling carnation, in all its spicy glory, supported by a little boozy orange liqueur. All the other notes are there to support that glorious carnation; it’s too well-blended to pick them out, to be honest – at least for someone as inept as me.
For some reason, Panthere reminds me of Xmas. It isn’t suited to a warm evening in early May… I wonder what it smells like in the damp and cold of an English winter? I think I need to test this again in six months.
    My verdict tonight?
Panthere is very subtle and very sexy.

Panthere is a real wild cat!
Rich, complex, bold and beatiful. Not so much to wear in 2017 it is rather vintage style. Yet great.

Finally after so many years I could test it again (see below, I did use a sample in the early 90s), and this is GORGEOUS. Now that I can evaluate the notes differently, this is what I smell:
A dirty, carnal, animalic-spicy tuberose with so much complexity that it is constantly morphing under my nose. This is a fascinating perfume, elegant yet strongly strongly sexy and womanly, a masterpiece.
I would not wear this for work because it is so beautiful that I would be distracted, but by God, I would so much wear it at home and for going out.
This is one of the most beautiful perfumes I have ever smelled, and yes, I would love to own it.
And now that I have re-smelled it, I am proud of the good taste that my teenager self had on perfumes. I could only afford Don Algodon, but I would slowly savor, small drop by small drop, the little amount of the great perfumes in the samples I was allowed to use.

Unfortunately, I only own a tiny decant. I would LOVE to own it.

In vintage parfum. This is fruity in the top with tuberose. Sweet. Then a civet bomb. The florals play a supporting role.

When I was younger, my mother had the little sample black panther vial… And I loved it. I would dab just a drop, at weekends only, on the top of my hand, to sniff throughout the day.
It was strong and well-done. Floral, woody, spicy, animalic, though at the time I didn’t know these concepts. And yet much more than that. The beautiful parts create a whole which is much bigger and cannot be well described, like only a few perfumes do. Panthère, Nikki de Saint-Phalle, Opium and Miss Dior (vintage), for me.
Panthère, in my memory, is the fragrance of strong, serene confidence.
When I can, I will buy it.

I have a bottle of Panthere in the round bottle with the diamond like cutouts around in a circle. It states it is Cartier Panthere Eau de Toilette. I don’t think this is the same since most people keep saying “parfum”. It is an old bottle and a little musky smelling juice. The top doesn’t have a cap but a round, white sprayer. Do any of you know anything about this version? Please PM me because I may not get back here very soon. Thanks for any information!

    About Vintage Panthere
I have and have had the splash bottle with a round shape and a panther figurine as the stopper as pictured in this website. This was a boudoir perfume that adorned the dresser table of my row house in London in the 1980’s. This was such a fantastic fragrance. I have no idea whether it’s been reformulated but I would not bother to test it out as this original fragrance is unbeatable in every way.
The first spritz is citrusy with grapefruit and citric notes of oranges, along with an African orange flower. This is a rather old fashioned perfumy opening but I love it. There’s a sweetness to the fruit but it never turns into a fruit candy. Right from the start, it’s a mature scent. The white flowers of jasmine, tuberose and gardenia reach my nose. The white florals give it that feminine touch that I like in my perfumes, especially boudoir perfumes. There’s also rose and ylang as well as heliotrope. So it is indeed very floral.
But if it wasn’t for the base notes the flowers would have been too ephemeral. The flowers are sitting on supportive base notes of amber, moss, patchouli and vetiver. In addition there are animalic accords of musk and civet. This is a warm musky embrace similar to Paloma Picasso but far more floral and citrusy. The fragrance appears to have two lives: sweet and floral, a scent of the day time, and a muskier stronger Oriental night time dry down of amber woods and patchouli.
There is nothing like the dry down of this perfume. It’s mysterious and dark, there’s a bit of incense and a warm honeyed amber. It’s romantic. It’s far from becoming a predatory wild panther. She is tame and sweet, a girl panther, the Pink Panther. She is civilized, lady like and complex. This perfume is one I have worn to the Opera, the Symphony and formal dinners and black tie affairs. It’s luxurious and a rare fragrance of exotic beauty.
Has it been discontinued and the new formulation is what people are getting ? What a shame.

    My Wedding Perfume At Last
    I got it!
I just got it in a package delivered to my home in Palm Beach courtesy of a Fragrantica friend. It’s in the bottle with the panther on the top of the stopper. This is so beautiful. There isn’t much I can say that hasn’t already been said. This is a Cartier masterpiece. It’s luxurious, floral, fruited, animalic, a complex fragrance created with every ingredient and note that matches up and formulated with love. The whole thing is like a mini jungle in a bottle. It threw up a lot of scents: mandarin orange, ginger, spices, flowers, civet, sandalwood, patchouli, incense. This is one of those epic fragrances like Dior’s Poison, Yves Saint Laurent Opium, Lancôme’s Magie Noire, Coco Eau de Parfum. I like it better than all of them. I was initially afraid I’d have yet another musky unisex (masculine) scent of too much wood, incense and musk. It’s all in there but it’s clearly designed for women to enjoy. It has just the right amount of sillage, it’s neither too strong nor too weak. It’s no girly girly body mist or simple raspberry or vanilla scent. While there is vanilla it’s only there to give it the only gourmand ingredient in it and turns into vanilla powder. I love the flowers in this perfume: heliotrope, orange blossom, carnation, gardenia, iris, tuberose, karo korund. The flowers are white and a bit tropical, exotic. This is the kind of perfume that fills your head, that enchants you, that casts a spell. It’s romantic and glamorous. It reminds me of White Diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor mixed with Passion and also giving me a Dior Poison vibe. It’s also similar to Avon Far and Away except with more flowers and more of the aromatic base notes of patchouli, sandalwood. It’s also a little bit like Jungle Gardenia and Natalie Wood. The whole thing dries down to wood and musk. It’s got a definite unisex aspect and the right guy can pull it off. But I don’t care about any of the connotations this perfume can have by anyone’s interpretations. This is at long last the perfume for my wedding day. I have only tested it out on my wrist but know enough about it to adore it. This has enough flowers Inamely gardenia and tuberose/heliotrope) that I love to keep me happy and it has the elegance of a white wedding gown. I will be married on a Caribbean island and this is the perfect scent to match up with the island. It’s the best perfume I’ve ever smelled in my life. Thank You Fragrantica. My search is over. I’m so happy!!!!

Panthere must have been one of the most beatiful fragrances I have smelled. I’m very grateful I had the chance to test it extensively, but I ended up selling it since it has a huge personality – one that obviously didn’t match me. Panthere is definitely a remnant of the ‘old’ world – one where perfumes were grand, complex creations. The composition is simply magnificent. Civet is the real star for me here. It’s just like cuddling a cat, smelling cat’s belly, along with it’s comforting warmth. The civet supports the wonderful bubblegum florals – personally for me too sweet. The white florals aren’t indolic at all, but they maintain a very beautiful balance between luscious and delicateness. Another supporting note is the carnation. Personally I’m not a fan of carnation and that’s also the reason I sold it off. These notes are enveloped in a lush, warm package of florals and oriental goodiness, with amber and a very lovely sandalwood being the main stars. All in all, Panthere is the most luxurious perfume I have smelled. It’s Poison’s classy sister, that’s for sure.

This is one of the greatest formulations. Much like Opium, where the enormous number of notes combine into something more than its parts, so does Panthere.
I have a vintage parfum spray with the gold panther like the above picture.
Its sexy, strong, feminine, mysterious, fresh, playful, and unique. You won’t find duplicates of this out there. It stays with you and let’s others know you have your pet panther strolling by your side. It just smells rich. Money big 80s rich, glittering and all.
Only a woman with character can pull this off. Gorgeous!

Allow myself to be influenced by Gigi The Fashionista’s reviews (see below). Broke a rule or two with Panthere. First, I do NOT seek out vintage. I had to on this. Second, I do NOT overspend on perfume. Yeah. Had to spend $14.95 for a mere 1.1 ml sample. It does come with an unreal beauty of a black panther holder. Just Have to know how the original smells. Not that I want it beyond that knowledge. Too much cost, risk and effort. Have plenty to enjoy but something would be missing if I didn’t at least have a few drops of Panthere, not LA panthere or panthere Legere. Ok, for half the price I got more than twice the sample size in a regular card offering of the Legere relaunch. This is about research. Want to compare them. This is how far my perfume love has grown. Now it’s like comparing fine wines. HA

    Panther In The Jungle
    Review of 1986 Cartier’s Panthere
How sad it is that fragrances will never again smell like this one. It’s so amazing. Perhaps the only frag coming close to it is Salome by Papillon Artisan. This is an animal but it’s not a howling roaring beast that kills it’s prey. Instead it seduces it’s prey. It wins over it’s prey with it’s exotic sexy femininity. Nothing today smells remotely like this. It’s a spicy floral animalic incense that came from the time when fragrances had over 20 notes. This one has 29. Yves Saint Laurent Opium has 31. A lot is going on in this fragrance. Its a jungle, the panther woman’s domain. It opens with citrus. Orange. But it’s not a fruity perfume. Then you get flowers in the jungle: gardenia, heliotrope, karo, ylangylang and jasmine. These are mainly white flowers but tropical white flowers, almost like something out of Tuvache Jungle Gardenia. They are so intoxicating. So beautiful. But this fragrance is not all about flowers either. After smelling the flowers in the jungle you encounter the panther. This is the civet in this fragrance. I would have to say that this civet is playful, sweet and well-behaved. It’s just sitting there watching you. There’s lots of woods and patchouli. This patchouli is very good unlike some patchouli in more modern fragrances. The incense here is also very good. Reminds me of Elizabet Taylor’s Passion. This fragrance is richly layered luxurious and a beautiful Panther Queen that dominates the senses. Easily unisex because of the civet musk, the woods and the incense but leaning more towards the feminine side because of the white flowers. This is an evening fragrance, very formal and wants you to wear her with your best clothing, expensive couture: boots hats coats, evening gowns, leather. This is really perfect to wear with an elegant and expensive leather. This is one of the greatest fragrance masterpieces of the 80’s, but if you wear the vintage today you will kill your prey with beauty and sex appeal. It’s magnificent.

Vintage Parfum: Panthere is a warm, sensual and classy perfume with the scent of sweet florals, nutmeg, sandalwood and civet. It’s not aggressive, as the name might lead you to believe, but Panthere stands confidently beautiful and sexy, turning heads and making its presence known to all around.

  14. :

    4 out of 5

Incomparably beautiful, rich, redolent, golden and sensuous. Truly feline, sleek, stealthy. Glossy noir.
Gardenia, jasmine, orange blossom, a cascade of white florals restrained by the depth of civet, sparkling with ginger, hinting of rose. Golden ambery, warm with exotic nutmeg; the nutmeg of the islands, the real, old nutmeg.
A carnation that is clovey, but not medicinal: sweet, sexy, purring like a fat cat, this is rich, luxurious, velvety and posh. Animalic? Yes, no doubt.
This is the kind of intoxicating perfume that leads me to contemplate buying up the world’s supplies. This is the kind of perfume where the idea of a dupe is laughable, as in diabolically cackling laughter. This is the kind of perfume that inspires words like masterpiece, and makes a signature. This may well be the sultriest perfume of all time.
There is so much happening here, such complexity. Some of that comes from the sheer number of notes and constituent elements. Like a symphony orchestra versus a chamber orcestra, a big band versus a small jazz band: neither is better, but with a big band you can attempt things you can’t with a four person band.
Cartier panthere is like a great symphony orchestra, inspired and led by a brilliant conductor, featuring masterful solos, interpreting a beautiful, brilliant work. It feels ridiculously opulent, over-the-top gorgeous, almost too much, veering into a thousand and one strings.
    DRAMA!

Although I worked for Lauder for many years I found the most devastatingly beautiful fragrance one day. It was Panthere by Cartiier. Finally a fragrance that was both sensual and defined wealth and beauty. It was ME! I stopped purchasing it due to financial problems I had for a number of years then went to SFA last week to purchase my trophy fragrance. The sale lady gave me the tester bottle of le Panthere. I insisted that ,no, this was Not my Panthere! She did not have a clue about what I was talking about. I thought I walked into the Twilight Zone. I purchased it but could not figure out if there was a change in the fragrance or a problem with my sense of smell. The change was definitely not for the better. Unfortunately the clerk was too young to know the original fragrance. Now I thank you for letting me know that I have not gone crazy, nor has my nose. I wish they would bring it back. It was elegant and a part of my life I will always remember.

Cartier Panthere is a true 80’s powerhouse. Although I love La Panthere, I see no resemblance to the first Panthere. And I love the bottle. The one in the picture is beautiful, but I’m writing this review from my miniature. The 4ml bottle has the same round glass, but around it are 2 panthers in black. I own 2 bottles, one full, in my drawer and an empty one to look at haha.
The notes are soft, but there is a lot going on and I can understand that some people might find this a little too much. In my eyes, she smells a lot like Maroussia and those section of fragrances. Overall it is a really nice scent and seductive in her own way. The sillage is huge and wears for hours, so you don’t need a lot of it, which is great. It’s a shame that houses don’t make powerhouses like these any more.
Nice to wear for a romantic dinner, very seductive and attention grabbing in a good, mysterious way.

This is for the vintage ‘parfum’ version, new old stock miniature.
Now Panthere. Whoa-dee-whoa. This one qualifies as a mode of transportation.
Ever see the movie Diva? The slick protagonist rolls around in this old style Nazi-commandeered Citroen that is all sweeps and bulges and curves. What Rolls rides like, this car looks like. And Panthere smells like.
This thing is moving like it’s on hydraulics. And it’s night.
The door opens and you get into the car. There’s no driver but it drives. It picks up Desmond from Sunset Boulevard. It picks up (you choose which half) Black Dahlia. It picks up either Isabella Rossellini or Dennis Hopper huffing it (not both), and the car keeps on going through the night. The seats are blood red leather. The floor is lined with mink. You take off your shoes and dig your toes in the mink. You’re drinking distilled green walnuts. Nocino. Or some serious smoked up whisky.
You realize this is the car version of No Exit. It keeps on going. I guess part of the spice is carnation. If someone was trying to kill you by soaking you in a vat of carnation. And you keep on going. Spicy, dark, but incredibly, weirdly elegant. Your invisible driver turns around and you see it is a large wasp. The city all around you is hexagonal made by bees. Fumes of wax and honey and wasps throttling bees to squeeze out the nectar within.
It’s a long journey into the night. You love it. You don’t ask. You don’t ask where. You just listen to the rumble of the wheels, the venom in your head.

so im trying an edt from my moms closet. she got it at the store from the display, so it doent stand up and has tester on it. maybe my bottle is old because i sprayed myself 5 times and can hardly smell anything. at first i get tuberose and gardenia. then i get a watered down cat piss. then the carnation comes through. then it gets amazing with some nutmeg and tonka coming through. i maybe get a tiny bit of powdery jasmine. it really smells amazing, but i imagine the vintage edp would be too heavy and unfortunately the 1oz edt that i now have is going to last me like a week if i have to spray it 5 times just so i can smell it. it has a rich elegant quality.im really loving this. might be my favorite ive smelled so far.

My husband got this for me in the summer of 1993. We were married the following September . I loved it so much I only wore it on special occasions. At the time I didn’t know that Cartier came out with perfumes regularly. A couple of years later, I went with my husband to get some cologne and we asked about Cartier. We found out they had a new fragrance and I loved that one too. My husband loved to smell good so you can image every few years I would get the latest Cartier.
My husband passed away a couple of years ago. I haven’t been to the store to buy perfume in years. The other day I was out with my daughter. Like her father, she loves to smell good. We went into the perfume store. I was flooded with memories of my husband. As my daughter was checking out, I asked the salesperson if she had Cartier. Of course she did. Like Panther, the Baiser Voles is wonderful. I am so glad I was able to get the new Cartier.
To the men or women Cartier is a wonderful habit to have. If you haven’t tried it before, you should.

What a shame it was discontinued! I smelled it years ago and I was amazed with the beautiful smell. It was so lovely, gentle, I still have a memory of this unique scent and I promissed myself to own it one day.
Well, I guess it won’t happen.

Trying Panthere in a parfum vesion. It’s viscous, dark and animalistic, made rich with bright note of brisk white flowers (gardenia is the most noticeable). A beautiful big cat this Panthere is, not dirty, but lithe and gracious.

A perfume which evokes contradictory thoughts and feelings in me. Cool and warm, mysterious but confident, present and intangible…

EDP: I think I must be missing something. When I sniffed this in the sample vial I couldn’t detect hardly any fragrance at all.
Then when I applied this, it began as a slightly unpleasant powerful and rubbery tuberose. After fifteen minutes it morphed into a duller, less effusive cousin of Dior Poison.
Nothing animalic or panthery about it. Maybe I should try the parfum.

I own the Vintage Edt ,and Vintage Pure Parfum and let this be a warning: DO NOT OVERDO THE PARFUM, it is ridiculously strong. it is not a parfum by todays standard, half a spray and this is emanating VERY VERY STRONGLY. Dominant notes of animalic tuberoses, and the orange blossom add the headiness to the bouquet, Heavily spiced with nutmeg. The thing about this composition is it s very 80s but you can distinguish every single note clearly with the gardenia and Ylang ylang and jasmine. Beautiful indeed but not an everyday occasion, half a spritz has left me afraid, cautious, and yes it is very reminiscent of Poison’s tuberose. So this without a doubt a black tie event. Now for the Vintage Edt, simply the most wonderful florals i ve had the pleasure to come across. it is well balanced fresh(not in the minty cool way a-la-sports fragrance), wild, and very realistic, with more emphasis on the carnations, jasmine and Orange Blossom, i will treasure my priceless bottle for many years too come.
    I swap decants worldwide 🙂

Having read all the wonderful reviews here, I’ll keep mine short. Its for the modern EDP.
A grand symphony of notes, expertly composed, finely executed. A truly beautiful fragrance! The dry down is absolutely DIVINE!!!
This is what a woman’s fragrance SHOULD smell like!
This is a fragrance that assists you in being in touch with your true feminine Self… If you dare.
And to think the ladies here that are versed in vintage fragrances are saying how the original version is even more wonderful! Oh my!

This review is of a vintage parfum de toilette in a magnificent bottle with panthers on sides.
Panthere really has a wow-factor in it. Sweet, strong, complex, ever changing, multi-faceted and sophisticated with a lot of refined nuances (hmmm…did I forget any adjective of this long list? 😉 But it is true: this is one of the most complicated fragrances I have ever tested.
And yet it succeeds to maintain balance and harmony from the very start to the remote end and the way between… No bad spots here, no insignificant stages.
This is an opulent, luxurious creation, heavy in a most beautiful manner. Old-fashioned like the bottle itself – and this is purely an admiring, respective comment. I don’t long for those “old days”, but surely one can appreciate this kind of detailed and thorough craftsmanship, which caters both outside and inside of the bottle.
Not for every day, not for every occasion. But there are moments when Panthere is just the right choice to enjoy.

Time to dress up and sail off to the opera. No other perfume will do on a Grand Night Out.
Whoever decided to discontinue this Queen of all perfumes, must have had a lousy reason for doing so (a very undignified work in relation to Prominent Perfumes..)
All we can do is treasure our last bottles and keep searching the net for more.

For some reason this is the only Cartier fragrance that I’ve tried that does not smell good on me. I’ve worn three of their others for over 25 years, but this one sours on me within an hour of wearing. Four out of seven days a week I usually wear a Cartier fragrance, just not this one.

I didn’t know Panthere had been discontinued or reformulated. What a disappointment. I have the original large glass flacon with the lions on the sides and the panther on the stopper (before the atomizer goes in). A masterpiece of the perfumer’s art, it’s immense, complex, tantalizing, beguiling, unforgettable. I save it for special occasions – men are mesmerized by it. To me, comparing most of today’s niche and designer fragrances to those of the 20th century is like comparing a cartoon to an Ingres painting. Ah well, different times, different tastes.

A gorgeous combination of candy and French Perfume; Sweet, soft citrus and tuberose/gardenia with a golden oriental base. Complex, soft, feminine and just lovely. Really liking this one. Ends a bit powdery, but still a great ride.

Here I am, happy owner of a vintage Panthere, in the old diamond-shaped bottle with two polished glass panthers on the sides. Let’s see, it’s super heavy, and it’s presented in the red jewellery box of Cartier. First whiff and… phew ! Ecstatic pleasure threw me into the sixth dimension of pure stratospheric happiness! This is several classes above any fragrance I’ve known! Longevity, let’s see. The bottle must be twenty years old, so for the age it’s amazing. And in the absolute longevity is very good, it’s just that I want it to last forever. This perfume makes me want to forget all the others. And btw reconciles me with Alberto Morillas.

    Another great classic gone…
It must be something with real good sandalwood endagered or being too expensive, because most of great perfumes with sandalwood base have disappeared or sadly re-formulated. I wonder i
