So I ignored the 2.7 rating of this because this has some of my favorite notes. Amber, cacao and olibanum! I’m thinking that this would be a smoky/boozy/decadent gem! Boy was I wrong. The cacao is very dry not sweet. I think the oakmoss gives the boozy and smokiness an old stale vibe. It smells moldy and not really my thing. Too bad as I had high hopes for it but I guess that’s good for my wallet!

I dunno, maybe my nose is just ignorant. All I get from this is a vanilla- or amber-tinged sandalwood with an “after-smell” of cigarettes. *Sigh*

sooo…again, i opened this page, closed my eyes, and scrolled to the bottom with eyes closed. i wanted to type my review without checking the ingredients or other people’s reviews.
starts off like black afgano with chocolate and a little sweeter. fortis (by LLI) or cuirs (carner barcelona) with chocolate. as the day unfolds, the fortis/cuirs/BA amps up and the chocolate fades away. nice and pleasant, but a little derivative (not sure which one came first, TBH).
either way, fans of BA, fortis, cuirs etc should like this…

I’m happy someone was able to connect a little with the description. But this smells sour and synthetic. Little dry vanilla and cheap chemical amber. Kinda harsh like a dollar store knock off. I think from a few feet away it’s more vanilla, which is better.

What a haunted, sad bird is this.
Very first impression is of strong, dusty cocoa powder, smoothly rising into a fog from the surface of my skin. Rather quickly though this note disappears into the recesses of my skin and gone forever, leaving in its wake a remarkable interpretation of Tom Ford Santal Blush. Curious thing, this. There is no sandalwood in the composition.
Olibanum is detectable though faint. Then again comes the cocoa for a second run, sans whiskey and oakmoss; try as I might, I am not channeling those two notes. This fragrance smells of Australian sandalwood to me, perhaps an accidental result of the marriage of amber and olibanum to oakmoss. Vanilla also is dry and bitter; no trace of sweet here.
Pale Fire settles into a ghostly skin scent after 30 minutes.
How easily I am influenced by the story of this fragrance: that it “captures what the Portuguese call ‘saudade’ – the feeling that remains after a disappearance”. It does indeed do this. The feeling that the last remaining elephant on earth will experience after her mate dies.
If you try this, don’t go into it expecting another amber fragrance. It is not that. It is a very dry, resinous and incredibly sad perfume of longing and remembering.
