This luxurious fragrance is one of the most interesting from the Voyageuses line. In my opinion it works best when applied moderately. It’s a fragrance for the advanced custumer, because it can radiate a skanky image. It’s both stunning and disgusting! Just the way I like it. Oud & Musc is still my favourit from the line, but this one is a close second!
8/10

The Cartier ouds are amazing and underrated. They’re light and understated, just how I like my woods. But you don’t loose any facets of the oud. It’s all there. This was my favorite because of the very sweet smooth almost cinnamony smelling wood. It has an old fashioned vibe like it’s something vintage but not to the point where you couldn’t wear it. It certainly smells expensive. Unfortunately because of the pricetag I can’t have this.

Oud & Santal makes me think of a meeting of the titans of the ancient and holy perfumes: Agarwood and Sandalwood. Both are great woods full of symbolism, with complex and rich aroma and whose indiscriminate use almost led to extinction, making its use in natural form reserved because of the high price they have acquired. Here Mathilde Laurent makes a beautiful harmonization work of both in a perfume that appears more complex than it seems at first. At the opening Sandalwood seems to prevail immediately and is a lovely aroma of sandalwood, lactonic, creamy and without excess of harsh and dry woody aromas. It is interesting as the perfumer adds a slightly Gourmand and sugar note, which enhances the creamier aspect of sandalwood while seems to suggest Gaiacwood without the smoked nuances. The Oud appears gradually, and if it is not natural at least sounds like it was, being woody, animalic and with that oily impression which is generally found in more expensive versions of the wood. As a kind of succession of base notes, Oud also gives room for another facet to a musk aroma with a starched sensation and that makes me think of one of the perfumes in the Arab Guerlain line, Encens Mythique d’Orient. It’s a good way to finish with classic elements a luxurious inspiration based on Arabic perfumes and making the release, along with Oud Absolu, one of the best in this line.
