Description

Oscar Velvet comes out in mid-2016 as a new variation on the theme of the iconic original scent from 1977 Oscar by the fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, after the latest flankers such as Oscar Flor from 2015 and Oscar Velvet Noir from 2016. The fragrance is inspired by the opulent fabric and designers’ burgundy red evening dresses.

The ultra – feminine limited edition offers a rich and sophisticated composition. The top notes mix fruity and floral aromas such as black currant, dewberry, lychee, red lotus, pear and plum blossom. The heart develops with white flowers of jasmine, magnolia, calla lilies and orange flowers, with purple datura. White amber, black orchid, blue iris, tonka bean, vanilla and patchouli envelop the perfume’s base.

fragrance is available as a 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

Intensely sweet fruit syrup opening. The fruit disappears rather quickly. Then the florals emerge from the treacle and a pleasant but generic white floral predominates. This is a very feminine scent. Projection is moderate and longevity is about three hours for me. I like it but don’t love it. Suitable for wear day or evening, just wait until the fruit fades before leaving the house.

This is a dupe to lancome la vie est belle. Sadly it’s so0o weak. I drenched myself in this, spray after spray. It last 30 minutes to 1 hour on my clothes and skin.
I can’t believe oscar would make such a good fragrance but make it so weak. Lancome la vie est belle seems to be the new copy fragrance. I have 10 fragrances that all smell like la vie est belle. Before it came out I remember everyone smelt like chanel coco mademoiselle.

This was a blind buy at Winners. I’ve since tested it on a tester card and worn it once. I have to admit that I totally disappointed. I can’t find one thing to like about it. I had high hopes because I wore Oscar de la Renta back in the 80’s and really like it.
I don’t even know where to start with describing what I don’t like about Velvet… because it just comes across as a hot mess. I can’t find one individual note in it and there’s something that I actually find to be “sharp” and burns my nose a bit. Something peppery maybe.
I normally like most of the notes listed for Velvet, but I can’t find any of them… I just get a sharp, unpleasant & synthetic burn from it.
Additionally, I find the staying power & sillage very poor.

Better suited for men too heavy on the musk.

This is a beautiful berry patchouli fragrance, been done a lot, but worth the price. It’s very inexpensive. It lasts about 2 hours with arms length projection. Just use it at home and refresh often! It’s a good bedtime perfume. If only it lasted longer! Nicely blended.

I wore Oscar de la Renta to the Oscars!
Sort of! I attended an after party in Beverly Hills where I met up with some friends from out of state. This is a luxurious fruity floral & patchouli scent quite similar to Si by Giorgio Armani. The thing is this is far more fruity and the patchouli is not as fragrant as in Si by Giorgio Armani. The bottle is very chic and it’s a burgundy color but shaped the same as the current EDT spray bottle of Oscar de la Renta. The opening notes are all fruity, not fresh but super sweet. It starts off with a berry flavor and a grape juice black currant. Then there’s a pear and plum. The fruitiness is like a fruit cocktail, boozy and alcoholic. It made me think of a nice Oscar party dinner where I’m in a drop dead gorgeous red evening gown (red to match the Red Carpet) off the shoulders, plunging neckline, cleavage, and long full skirt but slit on the side to show some leg. The fruit wine opening is very mature and summery but elegant and very pretty.
The floral notes are white: jasmine, Arum lily, datura, magnolia. There are additional floral notes of iris and orchid. The orchid is the shyest note here and you get more of that iris which turns powdery. I like how it goes from fruity to floral to powdery. The powdery iris is then followed by a green herbal patchouli scent which appears briefly mixing with the fruit turning into a very well made fruit-chouli aroma also similar to Flower Bomb by Viktor & Rolf. There’s more. A gorgeous vanilla dry down.
This is a very beautiful and glamorous fragrance to wear on a romantic evening or fancy dinner, a wedding party (but not for the bride) it’s stylish and so Oscar de la Renta! It matches with what Brie Larson wore to the Oscars last night, an Oscar de la Renta black gown. This smells great and lasts for hours and hours and comes off as feminine, fruited, flowery, powdery, aromatic and amazing. Love it. Love it.

This is an absolutely wonderful scent for day or night. I will be buying this as soon as I have the money and wearing it as a fall signature.
This unravels on the skin so beautifully. It is so feminine and alluring and so soft. I actually like that it has such a “soft” texture to it. Not too loud.
Top notes of black currant and dewberry smell so fresh and jammy, like other reviewers have said. The heart of 7 different flowers is so muted, you don’t have to worry about this being a powerhouse. The patchouli, tonka bean and vanilla really anchor the florals and the fruit smooths everything out. In the heart I get a similar scent to that of Paco Rabanne Lady Million with the candied orange blossom and it blooms ever so lightly. Because of the gourmand touch, Oscar Velvet also reminds me a little of
    B & BW Forever Red.
What can I say but that I love the way I smell with this. I love the way this smell makes me feel: feminine and a little mysterious. The same way Stella and Chance make me feel. (My other signatures). EDIT: sillage is weak after the first hour but at least the scent is still there.

I agree with both reviews bellow , it’s really a quite nice perfume. It was love at first spritz ! Sweet , fresh , fruity ,,,, and jam like.
However it has been done many times before , it does remind me of several other Rose berry patch scents out there. Slight chypre feel also. In the line of mon Paris and other berry fruity scents with a heart of flowers and a patchouli base. It’s lovely and very likeable. Reminds me of my mother making jam !
It’s not as young as some other sweet scents , it has some maturity to it but that might be the influence of the bottle and the Name but It does not remind me of the original.
Anyways the sad part is it really is short lived. The smell is close to gone after an hour .
If this was longer lasting it would move to my top shelf.

Just tried it, and I really like it!! I don’t find it to be a fruitchouli, it is like a smooth fresh and sweet oriental, I find the smell so attractive..! it is like a fresh sweet scent, and the name describes it good, it is velvety, pretty, , great balance of notes, nothing dry or screechy..pure loveliness!! The floral notes make the beauty of the scent, they just are so fresh and smooth,,Quite a departure from what de la Renta usually creates..more deep, just a great creation !! Longevity is good, the smell on my skin is sweet vanilla! I do not detect any patchouli, it is really subtle…very feminine, in a grown up way ..!

I tried this at Macy’s today. It is nice, but nothing new to my nose. This is Oscar’s fruitchouli. It smells like Sofia by Sofia Vergara and Live Irresistible by Givenchy mixed together. The top notes are juicy and fruity, then it turns into a sweet patchouli fragrance. Like I said, it smells very nice, but I am disappointed because this has been done a million times now. 🙁
