citrus in the top but not sharp, a sweet, delicate rounded fragrance with a licorice note for sure, little tart pineapple then gets more herbal in the base that seems like the lily mixed with a tart pineapple; odd combination; interesting and unique; complete drydown has a tea note

It smelled so lemony and gingery, I gifted it to a dear friend.

I miss this sunny and joyful scent. I found a substitute for it in the Sole di Positano by Tom Ford – both are a powerful citrus on the jasmine base (not taking into consideration the price matter).

Oh wow, what a citrusfest. I can tell that time has taken the edge off the mini I am currently smelling but it hasn’t turned per se. Shiseido Zen comes to mind, but it is by no means a dupe. Still, I get the same instant sunshine vibes, very uplifting, a bit fizzy/sour, a bit sweet, 100 % fresh.

Love this so much but unfortunately, every single bottle I have found, as well as my own, has turned. I believe that citrus nots in perfume do not last as long as others. Am desperate to find a bottle that has not gone off. YR really needs to bring their discontinued gems back!

A pleasant little surprise. Was expecting something very light and citrusy like Yves Rocher’s Agrumes En Fleurs. On first spray, I got a distinct grapefruit-shampoo vibe. Then as Ode a la Joie dried down, this developed into a radiant fruity-sweet vanilla (not in the listed notes!) — very much the sister of Dolce & Gabbana The One, albeit sparer and a bit quieter.
This was my fourth choice among an on-line seller’s selection of YR Odes… and I am SO glad I took the risk, because it is beautiful, and I plan to wear it.

An OK fresh and cheerful citrussy stuff, but with almost no staying power, the bottle is also not the smartest idea in the world, because a) lying flat it takes too much space on the vanity and b) it is not easy to pick up/hold ( I were constantly afraid it would slip out of my hands ). Wouldn’t buy this again – CK IN2U is a 100 times better version of a sunny summer scent.

I can smell summer in this fragrance… it is so fresh, so light!! I am glad I found one yesterday after a long search. I bought it and I am looking forward to wearing it!!

I think we should all sign a petition and get it sent to YR so that they start producing this EDT again!

Nothing cools me off on a hot summer day like a well-made and refreshing citrus scent. Ode a la joie is a terrific citrus aromatic fragrance, which used to be available at YR for a very reasonable price. The combination of bright and sunny citruses mixed with a gentle lily and jasmine is pleasant to wear and though the scent does not have the biggest sillage and longevity, I still like it a lot. It is one of those energetic and happy scents that make me crave sunny and positive side of life.
The opening is bright and very citrus. The lime is so prominent and strong here combined with the bergamot blast. As the citrus explosion calms down, I get a soft pineapple note lingering in the background. Thankfully, it is not a sticky sweet, concentrated pineapple but just a tiny drop of a pineapple juice blended perfectly with the citrus cocktail. There is a soft and gentle lily note drifting in as the scent develops and an equally soft and light jasmine. The white floral notes are very light and tender. I also smell the cedar note almost right from the start, which gives this fragrance a nice woody tone. The combination turns into a refreshing, cool and pleasant skin scent after an hour.
Overall score is 7.5/10. This is a lovely scent for spring and summer with its energetic citrus, gentle lily and cool cedar accent. It is unfortunate that it is discontinued now and hard to find.

OH HOW I LOVED THIS ONE.
If I had the power to make a fragrance come back from the dead, this would be the one. To me Ode a la Joie was the ultimate white floral scent; very feminine and fresh. Now only the too sweet Ode a l’amour remains> I’m sad.

The reviews made it sound like the second coming. 😉
Sadly I can’t relate. It is a nice cheerful spot in the perfume-range. But as far as citrus centered scents go, it didn’t capture me. I much prefer still my good-ol’ “4711” and some other new ones 🙂
The citrus here goes through all the range: sour, tart and slightly juicy-sweet. From bitter Bergamott, to Limes and then to Citrus. And there is a slight spot of of something like mandarins too, when it wears on… For a citrus scent the sillage and staying power is decent and it does smell natural. But maybe it’s just only citrus what I smell that makes this a bit less enjoyable to me.
I had the luck to get a small bottle with 15ml left in mint condition. I heard often that citrus scents go bad with time because of the acid. But I had luck and got a still fragrant and good smelling JOIE.

Absolutely gorgeous summer scent that invariably drew comments. Fresh and bright, neither too bracing nor too sweet. This one is not as stable as others due to citrusy notes and unfortunately vintage buys have been a real disappointment. If anyone finds a good similar fragrance let me know!

This one’s tough to describe. It’s not a bright or fresh citrus scent at all. There’s a powdery herbal tone that darkens any sunniness it may have possessed. If I had to guess I’d say it’s the lily dragging it down.
I do pick up the pinapple but no peach and the cedar is non-existent. And while there’s no plastic, there is a throat drying “perfuminess” that pervades top to bottom.
All in all, it’s just “ok” for me. Not something I will re-purchase.

It is a fresh scent that is a nice change of pace. The name means ode to life and it is a happy citrus scent. Good for warmer days.

This review is for the Eau d’ete, same scent, with no alcohol…same flacon, only the glass is frosty.
I bought this on the suggestion of the SA on the phone for my Mom for Mother’s Day 2006. When it came and I smelled it, I immediately called back to order three more (they were only 10 bucks each for 50ml!) and they were already out!!…WHY do they do that?
Notes from Judith in the YR lab:
Mandarin, bergamot, sweet limette, pineapple pulp, peach nectar, transparent jasmine, casablanca lily, cedarwood, musk powder and “sun” note
This is what summer sunshine would smell like if it had a smell! A soft blend of refreshing fruits and subtle citruses, that are neither sharp or syrupy. The sweet fresh topnotes remain, as the ethereal florals of summer begin to bloom, teasing you with their beauty. YR has caught the sun, and put it in a bottle for all to share! I cannot say what the EDT is like, having never smelled it, but the eau d’ete is superb. It may be linear to some; but I get an overall aroma from the listed notes, and every once in a while you catch a whiff of flowers, a hint of wood, fruity nuances, etc…and it does drydown, to a faint cedary smell with some whisper of musk and a warmth that is neither spicy nor oriental. A real gem…
    Sillage: close
    Longevity: good (for a summer)
    Overall: 4.5/5
An Ode to Joy, indeed! All of the ODE line are simply wonderful and if you find em…buy em!! Whatever you pay (or swap) will be worth it! This is excellent for summer, but I like to spray it on in the winter when I miss the warm and balmy days, and it’s like sunshine for your skin…warms the heart and puts a smile on your face! 🙂

Ode a la Joie is not the kind of perfume that I tend to like. I usually stay very far away from citrus scents, but this is a little different. It´s fresh, but there is something else that appeals to my senses. None of the ingredients take over. Everything is so nicely blended.Maybe it´s not the right season to use it now, it probably shows itself at its best in spring or summer. A very soft and cozy fragrance. Someone here called it sunny, YES, sunny, that´s exactly what it is!

I am so ticked off at YR for discontinuing this one! I’ve searched high and low for this one for years now!
It was my staple spring/summer scent, together with the body lotion. I loved the lime zing to it. Although not listed in the notes, I swear I could smell white acacia in bloom in it, too.
It was a bright and cheerful, refreshing, unpretentious, feminine and young scent, and it would always make me smile more than usual…
Why, oh why do they always stop making the stuff that works?!?

Oh this sweet sunny scent! I used to wear this in my teens and in college and I get butterflies in my stomach every time I smell it. Sunshine in a bottle that puts a smile on my face every time I wear this!I think this is by far the best perfume from the Ode series. It’s a floral fruity smooth blend, I think it’s the combination of citrus, pineapple and lily that makes it so fresh and sweet. It wasn’t very long lasting but it was such a joyful scent.I had numerous bottles in all sizes of this frag and never got tired of it. It would still be my summer go-to, if it was still in production. YR tend to discontinue all their good stuff and this time it really hurt!

This smells like summer, fresh, fruity, a little like a good suntan oil. Guaranteed to cheer you up and bring a little sun into your day.

This is a really lovely fragrance – it is bright and fresh – citrusy without being overbearing – it is like a ray of sunshine and is perfect for winter to help chase those winter blues away. Alas, it is EXTREMELY rare. Watch eBay.

This is the only fragrance I never get tired of. It’s fresh, sunny, clean and subtle, never overpowering. Jasmine, peach and citrus are magnifically blended, so you get floral, fruity and citrus at the same time.I get so many compliments over it. It’s my “official” summer scent.
