One of the best fragrances I have encountered thus far from the Le Cherche Midi brand. Mandarin is one of my absolute favorite fragrance notes, and in No. 26 it is put on full display. The convivial opening blends sweet mandarin and sour bergamot, immediately imbuing a warm and comforting atmosphere. Earthy vetiver, spicy cardamom, and black peppercorn offer a sharp counterbalance to the velvety hersperidic top notes. It is here I believe the fragrance is most successful. Orris root offers dryness, whereas fir balsam and rosemary lend a herbaceous accord. Added sandalwood in the base helps to make this a more masculine leaning scent for me. The creating fragrance artist, Cecile Hua, utilized La Belle Époque as an inspirational springboard for No. 26. Certainly this fragrance has the ability to impart upon its wearer an air of optimism, hope and peace; a modern interpretation of the historical “Golden Age”. Soon to be my new signature scent. (112)

I was thrilled to be one of the winners of the Le Cherche Midi giveaway and I couldn’t wait for my bottle of No. 26 to arrive since the description sounded wonderful. I wasn’t disappointed! The scent opens with with a cool, fresh blast of citrus which immediately made me think of walking through an orchard on a summer morning. After a few minutes on my skin, the citrus began to blend, but not be overtaken, by a warm spiciness that was absolutely delicious. What makes this perfume different from so many others that I’ve tried is that it retained that delicate balance between cool/refreshing and spicy warmth throughout its life on my skin (about 7 hours). This is a fragrance that can work for both men and women, and while lovely on its own, it could also be layered with another scent if you wanted to accentuate either the lighter citrusy notes or the deeper, warm notes. I won’t hesitate to purchase a bottle once this one runs out, as I don’t have anything else quite like it. Thank you Fragrantica for this amazing giveaway!
