Gorgeous drugstore cheapie! I had a co-worker who wore this back in the 90’s and it smelled wonderful on her. I’m so glad to finally have a bottle of my own. I love the combination of ylang ylang and amber. So warm, sunny, and golden. And the cinnamon gives it a nice little kick. 🙂
AVA – :
This is one underated little gem! It’s actually gorgeous! Pillowy wafts of oriental goodness when you wear this.❤️❤️❤️ Love the lemony green start to it too!
Laoshi – :
I wore this in the 90s. It was good. These reviews make me want to revisit it.
lorasti – :
This is exquisite. A softer floriental than the notes would have you believe.
Navy is under-appreciated and would be lauded if it came from a high end fragrance house, in a beautiful bottle, and a ridiculously price.
Instead, it has a fugly bottle and sells for less than a pizza. And what’s with the name Dana? There isn’t an aquatic note in Navy!
Do yourself, and your waistline a favour. Forego a piece of pizza, and pick up a bottle of Navy. Just decant the juice into something pretty and send the bottle to recycling.
sdemen – :
This is a great cheap perfume. As others have described. Amber, spice, powdery, very soft but only a hint of vanilla drydown. Not sweet and cloying. Very classy for the price. An oriental type that you could wear to the office as it is not a spice bomb. I got a tiny sample pack of dana mini bottles for a gift which is how I got exposed to this and have purchased a large bottle available at the local drugstores. A nice Perfume brand you can actually walk into a store and purchase is always a bonus. I would say this would be good for any age and could definitely be unisex.
icecod01 – :
my friend liked this in middle school. During gift exchange I bought her some other perfume (Coty Wild Musk..?) because my parents could not afford Navy. She was so mad and gave me back the perfume on my birthday. i was poor and socially unaware then. ahhh memories
Abbat2007 – :
I never thought I liked Navy until I broke a vintage mini bottle in my bedroom, the bottle dropped onto my floor and shattered, splashing perfume onto my clothing, Throughout the day, I kept smelling a wonderful musky floral scent and wondered what it was. Sure enough it was the Navy perfume.
Navy has notes that remind me of vintage L’Heure Bleue, Bal a Versailles, Ciara, Boucheron and Tabu. If you enjoy those fragrances, you will most likely enjoy Navy. I love orange blossom, vanilla, musk and spices and this was a delightful perfume which lasted forever on my clothing. The vanilla reminds me of the pastry note in L’Heure Bleue. The orange blossom, ylang ylang, rose, bergamot, sandalwood, amber, musk, vanilla and jasmine is found in all of these perfumes. Some other common notes found with these perfumes are coriander, benzoin, neroli, orris and fruit notes.
vova23_94 – :
I hadn’t thought of Navy in so many years and then recently I saw a bottle of it really cheap on ebay. I decided to buy the little bottle to see if I still like it as much as I did as a teenager. I remember loving perfume as a teen, and I was able to have a decent collection even then. In addition to babysitting money, I “worked” for my local Avon lady delivering orders and catalogs for more perfume money. Sometimes I got paid in Avon product – I think I had all of their fragrances at the time. I remember I had Peals & Lace, Fifth Avenue, Pavi Elle, Soft Musk, Candid, Timeless, Odyssey, and many more. I remember buying Navy and liking it, but my Dad hated it and said it was too strong, so I would only use it when I was at school or if he was traveling for work. Anyway, I have found that I LOVE this little gem a lot more than I did as a teen. Perhaps my grown-up chemistry is different or maybe the scent has been reformulated….I don’t know. I noticed something else as well. I knew it reminded me of another fragrance when I first put it on. Please feel free to disagree, and know that I’m not saying these are a match, but there is something in this well blended bargain scent that reminds me of Estee Lauder’s Knowing. Anyone else notice that? As I said, it could just be me. But I’m glad I’m a grown woman in my own house so I can spray as much of this beauty on as I like without worrying about my Dad’s sensitive sniffer. I think I’m going to look for some more of my old non-Avon frags to see if I love them as much as I love this one. I would highly recommend this fragrance to a woman who isn’t looking for a fragrance that is too sweet or too floral. On me it is spicy, warm, and wonderful!
julia-be – :
The best description I can come up with is that the smell of NAVY reminds me of the inside of a vintage make-up case before unscented cosmetics became the norm: powders and creams and lipsticks and even something of a plastic-y note from the case itself.
The name really has nothing to do with the fragrance, whether you think of the color or of sailors. It isn’t a cool blue scent and certainly not an aquatic. This is a warm, amber-y, spicy floriental with a slightly powdery dry-down. After awhile, I can detect just a tiny bit of fruitiness from the peach, but this disappears within a couple of hours. There’s a little sweetness here, but it isn’t sweet in the gourmand way. Sillage is moderate. Longevity is decent – about 5 or 6 hours on me. I tend to wear this as a casual fragrance in cold weather, either during the day or in the evening sometimes if we’re just hanging out at home watching movies.
NAVY has become a drugstore classic that can be purchased for next to nothing, especially around the holidays. I bought mine a couple of years ago and I’m not familiar with the original, so can’t compare the two. (Batch code: 16084B. I couldn’t find the year of production.)
death0043 – :
I remember my mother wearing this perfume when I was a kid because I kept the empty bottle until my early 20s because it smelled so good to me. I will say my nose has matured and I smell this now and still like it and remember why I liked it so much but I can see how this could be a perfume for a teenager or an early 20 something. I still love it because it’s soft, baby powdery, orange blossomy and oh so 90s.
Skamp – :
If this isn’t sentimental to you because you haven’t smelt it before, don’t buy! Don’t listen to the cozy cute descriptions below, as they are reliving memories that we don’t have.
It’s a scrubber version of CK Obsession. No thanks…
sanek2010 – :
Recent purchase, im new to the perfume world!
I love this classic on myself, on me it’s warm, soft, and powdery, one of my new go to’s!!
dol685speagoessenda – :
This smells like those blue tablets you put in a toilet. Very syntheic & harsh smelling. I wanted to try it since people seem to think its like cherished. They are nothing alike. Cherished is soft, cozy and beautifully made. Navy is a scrubber for me.
cowboy – :
I have such a soft spot in my heart for this one. It seems like there is just the right amount of vanilla (not too much) to poke through the floral and make Navy into something that smells like no other fragrance.
It reminds me of high school formals and a very dear friend of my mother. I haven’t smelled the newer version, but I recently stumbled across a travel size bottle at a flea market for $1 and thought “why not?” Still lovely and well-rounded.
moguty – :
I used to love this perfume, old formula was peachy and amber .
But the current formula smelled like sunscreen and powder. very disappointing. only buy vintage version..
Update : I recently re visited this perfume in winter weather and like it much more. Now I get the amber and vanilla. Funny how weather affects scents lol. I like it now !
B52 – :
A “not bad at all” cheapie that gets exponentially better with continued exposure, providing you enjoy powder and orange blossom, two of my favorite things. I can’t believe how inexpensive this is.
I felt no need to secure a life vest, as there’s nothing aquatic about this. In fact, it’s quite powdery. Navy is a traditional oriental with orange blossom, soft spices, a whisper of vanilla, and a solid amber base. An inexpensive gem, to my nose.
Yeah, it’s a retro vintage revival scent (if that’s a thing), but I like the classic feel it pulls off; especially during the dry down, which is powdery amber class at a bottom shelf price. The very first spray unsettles a bit, but quickly turns to a shower of heavenly, old-school eau de cologne style orange blossom/neroli that I wish would stick around for awhie.
Lasts 5+ hours on me, the last three as a skin scent, but I don’t mind low sillage for this price point. Like her sister Tabu, it’s labeled a cologne spray but performs more like an EDP.
UPDATE: The more I wear this the more I love this. Great for my fellow orange blossom and amber fans. A charming, inexpensive fragrance with surprising longevity. It has become a staple.
UPDATE II: I won a bid on a teeny little vintage parfum concentration and cologne spray recently. My set is circa 1992, manufactured by Cover Girl/Noxell. I enjoy this fragrance so much, I wanted to see if I’m missing something from the Dana reformulation. The cologne spray has spoiled, I’m afraid—nothing good came from that bottle. The teeny tiny parfum, however, is still intact. It is a bit richer, a bit sweeter, a bit more complex, but still fairly similar to the current juice. The distinction I detect is similar enough—given the formulation differences—for me to say that the current Dana formula is quite true to the original.

Loved to smell the magazine strips of this when I was a kid but I never bought it due to having access to department store perfume counter samples and minis of higher end perfumes.
Since the price is currently so good, I recently bought two 1 oz bottles for $9.99 a set for nostalgia’s sake. Wow, this is a very good, rich, well balance, non-sickly, floriental! It doesn’t have the bite and edge of some of the super strong oakmoss beauties or any weird animalic or body secretion notes but it’s not a weak watered down perfume. A delight to wear occasionally for a change from the fruity florals, incenses, gourmands, aquatics, citruses. Love that I rediscovered this, I am getting so many perfumes for nostalgia’s sake like Giorgio, Red, Eternity and now Navy.
bolvankaru – :
Navy is such a gorgeous fragrance. It’s a warm, rich, fruity floral. It’s noticeable to others, but not overpowering. All day long, I catch these wonderful little whiffs of it, and think, “Damn, I smell good!” 🙂 Seriously, though…this would be a great buy at any price, and it just so happens it’s available for a steal. Who remembers the old ads in Teen magazine with Niki Taylor?….”You Always Feel Perfect In Navy”. YES. Any season, any time of day, any occasion. You can’t go wrong with this.
m1cro08 – :
I bought a .5 oz bottle from eBay more to satisfy my curiosity than a need. I find this gem deeply satisfying maybe because the vanilla lends itself more towards a gourmand to my nose. I can’t stop smelling my wrist only to remind myself that I should have tried this years ago. Navy proves that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to enjoy a lovely fragrance. I will repurchase this one, come to think of it – I already have!
yeeech – :
I’ve overlooked this fragrance my whole life, for two main reasons. One, it’s embarrassingly inexpensive. And two, I loathe anything watery or aquatic, which I associated with a name like Navy.
What a mistake.
I’ve learned, in the last few years, that price doesn’t necessarily equate quality. And Navy is a quality fragrance. For a cologne strength, the longevity is impressive. I get a good 8 hours, although for the last several it’s mostly a skin scent. And there’s nothing ocean-y or aquatic about Navy either. It opens predominantly as a white floral; specifically the orange blossom is most noticeable to me. But within a few minutes, the most odd yet wonderful pastry note appears; I know that sounds weird but I don’t know how else to describe it. Like a delicious French toast sprinkled with cinnamon. But I don’t want to overemphasize the effect as Navy is not really a gourmand; it has just the right amount of sweetness. After a few hours, it becomes a lovely skin scent, and settles into it’s Oriental base of amber, vanilla, and just a hint of spicy cinnamon remaining.
I’ve been wearing this one every day for several days now, and I can’t get enough. It’s like I actually crave it.
Lesson learned: always keep an open mind, especially when it comes to fragrance!
lisenok – :
Quirky in the way Shalimar is quirky and not for everyone. This is interesting and odd. It is shocking no citrus is mentioned because it is in the top with a hint of sweet fruit and some sweet flowers but not in a white flower way. The amber and musk rises in the drydown. A cheap fragrance at a cheap price. Nothing more. It is complex but not well blended. It never seems to settle into itself.
Hazard_8808 – :
This one takes a bit of work for me. The opening is harsh, loud, and powdery. But the dry down is wonderful. I don’t reach for it often enough because I have to be in the right frame of mind to get through the opening. Beautiful amber. Wallet-friendly.
nurullov_rinat – :
So, on my skin this is mostly a soft powder. Surprisingly, my husband really likes it! He prefers very soft fragrances, as opposed to my love of powerhouses, and has actually requested I Wear it several times this week.
zjw817Unlogrere – :
I spent years resisting this one, mainly because it was soooo trendy for a while I didn’t think I’d find anything there I wanted. But huzzah! Graceful and not at all trendy-smelling. It also *does* remind one of exactly the kind of scent to wear if the afternoon involves a short cruise.

I have been on an amber kick lately and the search for affordable ambers led me to Navy. When I purchased this I asked the opinion of a trusted fragrantica friend that really knows her drugstore classics 😉 I had read that this smelled like nag champa which I am crazy about and I was worried about the oh so prevalant 90’s Peach note. She told me the peach is not obvious and yes it does indeed smell like nag champa. This really is a beautiful scent. The peach is mellow thank goodness and this combination of notes for some reason truly does recreate nag champa, a little powdery towards the dry down. My only complaint is that I wish the silage was heavier but the longevity itself is pretty good. One of my best and cheapest blind buys yet.
sainlenly – :
An elegant lady I worked with wore this and I loved it on her back then. So what the heck, I bought it today and it was under 5 bucks!!!! (Cologne version) I can see why this thing is still here! Vanilla is the first thing I smell, and now it is ambery and soft and powdery. Yummyyyy!!!! Now I gotta try the eau de parfum version. Dana is surprising me right now! And by the way I bought a trial version of this (from a deep discount store) a while back in a 5 piece variety set. It must’ve been compromised somehow for I did not care for any of the ones in the set but this one is absolutely wonderful! I am so so so glad I decided to try it again!!!!!!

Smells like a very cheap sun tan lotion at the beach from the 1960’s. This smells like being nude on your stomach getting sun burnt. But I love it! This was a gift from my mom last year. I rarely wear it but when it gets hot I like to scent my skin for the beach. This has notes I do like in it actually: orange blossom, peach, ylang ylang, vanilla and amber. This is not as aquatic as others make it out to be. This is a fruity floral with pronounced peach and orange, and some floral notes of ylang-ylang, jasmine and rose. At the end it becomes spicy with hints of cinnamon coriander and a good dose of vanilla. This is more amber than vanilla though. It smells very nice but it has to be the right time of year. On me this smells better in summer when it’s 80s 90s or 100 degrees. I see this as a beach perfume.
lexa100kg – :
It’s Nag Champa. Let me clarify… It’s not evocative of Nag Champa. It doesn’t kind of smell like Nag Champa. No. It’s Nag Champa. The exact smell.
And it’s awesome. But so unexpected if you’ve never experienced it before! Reading these reviews I thought it was going to be something much different. I must say I was pleasantly surprised.
There’s a definite Middle Eastern exotic vibe going on here, which is weird considering the packaging and advertising for this product; the blue marine naval imagery, etc… If deep incense-type scents aren’t your thing, stay away. What’s good is it’s not too strong. It’s actually light enough for summer use (and I imagine it would pair well with a day of sailing) but has enough oomph to rock year round.
As for whether men can wear it I’d say (like Nag Champa) it’s unisex leaning slightly towards the feminine.
(So interesting how many of the ladies’ fragrances from the late eighties and early nineties would be considered gender neutral or even on the masculine side these days. What a great era for perfume.)

A few years ago, I was able to get the Cover Girl pure perfume spray. Wow, what a treat! It is musky, amber, oriental, and somehow appropriate to any time, place or event. This is one I choose when I want to be flawlessly classic and at the same time 100% sure my fragrance will please everyone. I did try the Dana version, which of course could not compare the the pure perfume, but it is nice too. I bought the lotion from Dana to go with it, and it is great.

longevity: 10/10

I wear this to go sailing from out here in Florida because it totally fits! I love how this smells on me when I’m out at sea in the open air, sitting next to my friends on deck and or as I allow the sun to kiss my perfumed skin. I wanted this to feel a bit tropical but it’s more a fresh aquatic scent, although not heavy or as aquatic as today’s aquatics. This is definitely a fruity floral perfume. I have a guy friend who wears it and wears it well but I’m biased and I think it only smells good on him because I don’t equate this fragrance with unisex fragrances. This is very feminine. This is a sailor girl who commands her own ship alone. Upon the first spray I smell something watery and green that takes me to the Florida Everglades for some reason. It’s fresh and a bit aldehydic but it quickly turns into a fruity fragrance of peach. It’s a sweet peach. I love peach as a note in fragrance. Sometimes they can feel like someone pressed them or squeezed them too much but here it’s a sweet and very nice peach. The floral scents of ylangylang, jasmine and orange blossom give this scent it’s feminine touches, but these are soft florals and very wearable. The dry drown is a blissful harmony of spicy cinnamon vanilla and amber. Never mind what year this fragrance is. It still smells like something you come across today. If you like fragrances to start with a fruity opening, has a floral heart of jasmine, ylangylang and orange blossom and a base/dry down of glowing amber sweet and spicy cinnamon and vanilla then this is for you. That amber keeps everything together and it feels like a warm sun on your skin as you sail away into the horizon. Love this stuff. I’m wearing this tomorrow at my friend’s yacht party.
anviv220 – :
To me, this feels like solar amber, with white floral and peach scented sunscreen gelee — like Bain De Soleil — and it feels very warm.
Unlike others on here, I don’t think it’s subtle but quite distinctive and even heady, with orange flower remaining prominent until drydown, where the amber becomes a little dry and sandy. If you love the smell of ambery, by the seaside solar musk and white florals, you’ll probably love “Navy”.
kozerog_71 – :
Aquatic little beauty. This is an innocent little perfume despite the fact that the ad showed a nude woman looking out over the sea with one of those nautical telescopes. True to it’s moniker you feel a fresh sea scent at first but it’s really just the aldehydes. A peach scent follows making it really sweet and girly followed by floral essence of ylang-ylang jasmine and orange blossom. Vanilla and cinnamon sweeten and spice up the fragrance but not heavily. I wear Navy after a shower as a casual day time fragrance. It’s really quite lovely and serviceable. Affordable, vintage, and sweet. I recommend this if you’re just starting to get into fragrances as this follows the classic fruity floral pyramid but it’s also got gourmand vanilla, green notes and amber. Because of the lack of woods and because of the aldehydes they did a fantastic job of creating an aquatic fragrance for women. Smells like having been sleeping on sand by the sea shore.
sialisale – :
Navy is my #1 comfort scent. My mom had several bottles of it when I was a kid and I used to steal spritzes on the regular. I remember thinking at the time that it smelled kind of “old lady,” but I liked it anyway. Now of course I know that it actually smells very classic, and I love it even more.
For me, the opening is all about the vanilla and spice, then I get the ylang and musk, and it eventually dries down to a soft vanilla. I smell powder and amber throughout, and I don’t ever get any peach or green notes (which I must say I am happy about). Sillage is just right and longevity is decent. It is more of an autumn and winter scent and I can see how it would be easy to over-apply.
I’m thrilled that Navy works so wonderfully with my chemistry because it takes me right back to so many happy memories in my childhood home (which my parents sold when they moved several years ago and is now, I hear, slated to be torn down).
LEXIS – :
This is a very powdery amber musk with hints of vanilla. It smells very inexpensive and strong as hell until it dries down. The dry down is quite sophisticated and lovely. It definitely has a more old school feel to it in that it’s classic and definitely not new and hip. It smells like it would fit in with a Tocca coffret set. If you like amber and musk, give her a try.
никкочка – :
This underrated little beauty starts out as kind of a loudmouthed jerk. But give her a second. Wait. The dry down is worth it. If you like amber this one won’t disappoint.
eem757speagoessenda – :
This is quite yummy…I avoided trying this one for the longest time because it just looks to me like it would be no good… butttt
What Im getting from this is a deep musky, amber and vanilla with a hint of rose! I looove amber and I looove vanilla so this is quite nice actually! It has this smokeyness to it that makes it different from the other amber scents ive tried. Its like the amber and vanilla were cooked together over a campfire with the smokeyness stirring into it ever so slightly.
I like it! I might not wear it on the daily but on cozy weekends and nights it is very comforting : )

This just smells like some kind of household cleaner. It’s not that it’s unpleasant really, it just smells like a synthetic scent that some household cleaners use.

I had this in 9th grade back in 1990…I remember it being initially strong, powdery and floral. Not a bad scent but after a while I got sick of it lol I went through 1 bottle and that was it.

This was one of my first perfumes ever so when I happened to come across some mini bottles near the checkout and had to grab one. Nostalgia! I didn’t know if I’d like it or not anymore and am actually surprised that I still like it- and like it enough to wear. Back in the day I remember so many girls wearing this…kind of like everyone has fragrances from BBW and VS nowadays. It’s kind of ironic that buying this bottle of Navy now makes me feel unique because I know of absolutely nobody who wears it anymore.
I plan to buy another next time I go if there are any still left. They had Tabu as well but I never wore that one before so I passed it up. I might just feel cheeky enough to grab both next time!
roma_spac – :
This scent reminds me of my childhood, my mother would always wear this perfume. To me, it smells mostly like amber. It’s sweet but not overwhelmingly so.
dangerdrug – :
I love this musky, vanilla-y scent so much! I smelled it first in the summer and loved it so I bought a bottle for cheap at walmart. But when I tried it on I didn’t really like the way my chemistry mixed with it so I put it deep in my perfume wardrobe. This winter I decided to try this again and OMG this is wonderful for winter! I don’t know if my chemistry changes for the seasons but I love it now,it’s very powdery-musky and every time I wear it to work a guy always says, “You’re wearing that powder smell!” BTW I’m 26 years old so to me this is NOT an OL fragrance (to me there is no such thing :))
3anyda – :
I never was drawn to try this in the ’90’s – but now I am on a classic “drugstore” fragrance kick (part of my ongooing fragrance education). Love the drydown – kept sticking my nose in my shirt! I have never had such a warm fragrance…any other fun “cheapies” out there?
Pogrebos – :
This I somehow was imagining Casbah Avon would be like. So I prefer Navy to Casbah among those cute cheapies of 90-s that I didnt explore enough yet.
Navy is sweet, soapy, vanilla-spicy and almost gourmand on me, coz in ambery-musky drydown I have hints of dry fruits or even turkish delight sort of thing, very unexpected but nice nevertheless. I also often judge how nice fragrance not only from how it is on my skin but also how it is on my hair, – on hair its mostly ylang-ylang, coriandre and rose, – chaaaarming)
aleksei76 – :
My cousin who was the same age as me wore this fragrance all through high school. It worked great with her chemistry. Not everyone can wear peach. I sure can’t. But she could. It was an assertive scent on her, downright jaunty, with the coriander providing a piquant counternote.
kirdjik – :
I remember the ads for navy when it first came out. They were very sophisticated and glamorous in high eighties style. Years later I still love the rich, warm, cinnamon notes in this fragrance. The dry down is lush and comforting. It reminds me of the fall with essences of clove and spice an elegant choice for day or night.
Malih1993 – :
this was another fragrance from my childhood. actually, my mom had it and i would borrow it from her. i remember it being fairly strong and i felt so grown up wearing it. it reminds me of the store gemco, which was kind of like the precursor to target because i would go there and smell all the scents: navy, love’s baby soft, jovan musk, etc.

Navy is a Classy Sent, It’s an Oriental, Like All Orientals it’s sensual, heady and Draws in Attention! but it’s a suttle soft alure. It doesn’t scream I’m a Vamp!!!. It’s sultry but suttle. It says here I’m come a bit closer and closer. I’m a an aluring classy lady that you’l never forget. It Says I’m Powdery Soft Musky and Feinine, I’m Alureing I dwaw You In and Get Your Attention. I’m confident, I don’t have to flaunt, the fact I’m irresitable, you know I am, becasue I’m very much your Lady! It reminds me of Grace Kelly, She would have worn this sent welll!!!

I wore this when I was in my twenties and now i just don’t care for it. It’s a bit to sweet and powdery for me.
Funny how our tastes change over the years! 🙂

I bought a mini for a few dollars because I enjoyed my tiny sample vial. I love it for the dry down. Warm spices and creamy smooth musk. Unfortunately, the opening is a little difficult for me. It’s the peach. It’s super syrupy and creates an odd effect with the powdery feel to the rest of the composition. But once it settles in it’s wonderful. I wore it to bed last night.
IrrackEcorm – :
I loved this stuff in my youth before I began buying “real” perfume. It smells like soap and shampoo. I loved that element. The dry down was always pleasant. Actually, there was nothing “offensive” about this perfume, at all.
Then again, I was very young back then and had a far from “discriminating” nose. Not sure I would dare try it today. Then again, that could just be snobby and stupid as I am old enough to know that money does not always buy you quality and some perfumes are actually “beauties” in their own right – without costing a fortune.
For a young woman, I’d say try it! A lot of the young ladies are wearing Love’s Baby Soft these days and it’s really not a far shot from this stuff. Go for it!! 🙂

This comes across as a very Soapy Red Door or Georgio, can’t remember which one it is that this smells like. There are parts of it I really like, I think it’s the fleeting Red Door vibe, that comes and goes. But if I put my arm up to my nose, I hate it. I am very mixed on this one. Wouldn’t buy it, but there’s something about it.
Edited: Must be Giorgio Beverly Hills, just looked up notes and it has the peachy notes too.

This was a cult scent of the early 90’s. I had a bottle and remember thinking that it smelled exactly like Thrills gum, that purple, soapy tasty gum from my childhood.

This was my alternate go to back in the day (my SS was Electric Youth. Yes I was an 80s teen). Back then to me it was fresh, clean and crisp on my skin with just a hint of amber. I tried it again recently and either the scent or my body chemistry (or both) has changed. Now it smells like perfumed powder gone bad. I gave it to my mom. It smells nice on her but on me…not anymore.

Always a reason why some scents stick around and that’s because they just smell good and Dana’s Navy just does. It has staying power, and a little spritz goes a long way. It’s inexpensive, and its scent will remind you of a musky, patchouli, amber with a hint of vanilla essence in the background. I compare it to the daytime version of Tabu, or the good girl version of Tabu if there is such a creature. Navy is just a nice scent that isn’t overbearing. In its initial spray, there is some peachiness, followed by a hint of rose. These notes dissipate rather quickly. It’s the drydown that I love. Once the basenotes appear, the muskiness definitely stays with the musk, the vanilla and a slight scent of cinnamon begin to intermingle. It’s a very wholesome type of scent. The scent has staying power to last all day, which is wonderful for an inexpensive product. If you enjoy an oriental perfume, try Navy. You just might be surprised. It packs a lot in its scent that keeps circling around the base notes in a pleasant surprise all day long. An old favorite that I’ll just keep handy for when I want to feel good about myself. It bears repeating that Navy is not so much a watered-down version of Tabu, but it is a less sultry version of it. If Tabu is your night perfume, then Navy would be the one you’d reach for during the day.

The drydown is amber, peach and orange blossom on me. My husband said he smelled oranges.

I got this given to me as a gift when I was younger and I wouldent ever buy it. This was my first real perfume. Longivity on me was good and so was sillage but wasent too keen on the smell. On me the ylang ylang and amber stood out with quite a strong musky under tone that was always there. Used to think it was ok but now I don’t like this on my skin.

I am reviewing the formulation by Noxwell. It was my understanding that this was a pre-Dana buyout. The bottles look exactly alike, however my box included the words Cover Girl on the front. I find this formulation to be less powdery than the Dana formulation. I can actually pick up on the amber notes. I must say that this is a very nice everyday fragrance. It doesn’t have a synthetic or urine smell to my nose as others have mentioned. I am really enjoying it.

I do not smell the greens or the peach, however I do smell powdery, ambery tones and my brother was particularly moved and liking of this.

Loved this one! A shocking sharp note on opening (or maybe my mini had been stored too long), and then a deep, spicy and quite masculine development. I seem to get a bit of sandalwood too. Is anyone else reminded of something from the JP Gaultier Le Male series, maybe Fleur du Male? Now I’m looking out for a full bottle, or a smell-alike. Really hard to find in Europe.
