Description

Kylie Minogue announces her new fragrance launching in July 2012. The fragrance is called Music Box and is inspired by her childhood love of surprise and excitement that are offered by old music boxes. Kylie described her new scent as captivating and sensual, evoking the emotions caused by a music box.

The composition blends fruity, floral and woody notes. It opens with strawberry, raspberry and bergamot. The heart reveals a bouquet of roses, freesia and orange blossom, laid on the base of sandalwood, amber and white musk.

The fragrance is available as 30 and 50 ml Eau de Parfum.

This reminds me of Olympea by Paco Rabanne quite a bit. Just a shame the cap is so ugly, if it was perhaps a little smaller and more metallic in colour it wouldn’t look so bad. Still smells lovely.

I Hate the cap!!!! I am embarrassed to display this at home!! smell lovely though! 🙂

I really don’t understand all the hate. It smells a bit synthetic yes but still I think it’s ok. Not impressing but wearable at least with the body lotion.

I have tried this again because I have a bottle and want to give it a fair chance. It smells today like the blue Ralph Lauren Pony to me. It is sour but watery and laundry detergent fresh but somehow it still isn’t as nice as the Ralph Lauren one. Kylie’s Music Box lasts an eternity on me and I dare say I can smell a wiff of B.O. Yes I am not trying to be juvenile because I hate when people put silly reviews on here but it does have a sour note at the very end of it’s life on my skin and it is reminiscent of body odour that unmistakeable smell.
Sadly I think this one is a huge NO for me I have given it so many chances and I thought the musk was unpleasant in her other perfumes but this one has outdone itself on the yuck scale I just cannot understand what Kylie was thinking.
Everyone complains this is a Kylie/Coty collaboration so no surprises it isn’t nice but Coty have done some perfumes which are not as bad as this, this just is a shocker? I don’t know if Kylie has poor taste in perfume because I thought Coty worked with Halle Berry and some other celebs and those perfumes are at least wearable.

This is just a nice boring fruity floral. Nothing special but wearable for every day. The bottle top is quite tacky but bottle is quite nice.

Love the bottle! It’s a cute idea but why on earth is the topper plastic? So cheap…
The scent itself is not bad at all, mostly a nice strawberry/raspberry and bergamot. The real problem lies in the projection: there’s absolutely none. I can’t smell this on me at all. So sad! I don’t have any perfumes that are this poor in sillage. I think there are lots and lots of better berry perfumes in the world.
Longevity is a good 3-4 hours. Too bad you need to sniff your wrist to smell it at all.

MUSIC BOX.. or Lipton Lemon Tea?
It is predictably fresh, pleasant, cute and sweet. Lipton’s peach flavoured lemon tea came to mind at the first sniff. I can see teens wearing this, would make a good option for summer. Clearly, this smells synthetic and not the least bit unique. It is not a must have celebrity fragrance.
However, it deserves some merits for being non-cloying, clean and relatively long lasting.

Kylie Minogue’s fragrances are either a hit or a miss with me. I am yet to enjoy any of her scents. Pink Sparkle was the only fragrance of hers that I sort-of liked.
Her latest, Music Box, is yet another insipid fruity floral. It combines notes of candied raspberry, soapy freesia and orange blossom, and synthetic musk. The composition overall is quite basic, it also feels rushed, like the perfumer didn’t have the time nor the ingredients to create a decent Music Box.
To my nose, Music Box is a sickening fruity musk. It reminds me a lot of Vera Wang’s Look, another fragrance that I was not so fond of. At certain stages in the composition, Music Box attempts to smell creamy and lush, but fails miserably.
On the skin, Music Box smelt a little plasticky. Thankfully it didn’t last any longer than three hours, otherwise it would have been a scrubber. Kylie Minogue’s Showtime EDP has a much nicer strawberry accord, so I would recommend testing that one before venturing near Music Box.
I hate saying that I’m disappointed in yet another Kylie fragrance. I believe that in order for her fragrances to improve, she needs to branch away from Coty.

Nice, pretty, very fruity. It reminds me of all these kind of special summer editions (Amor Amor, or Love Etc TBS, or FlowerParty YR…) : lots of fruits, too much raspberry, nothing new.
I thought the bottle would have been original but the stopper is awful : it’s plastic, so cheap !
I’m a bit disappointed by this new perfume : I imagined it to be more “creative”.
Lasting power is correct : a few hours.

Cute bottle but that pretty much sums up all the positive things about this frag. It is a complete disaster (well, at least on me) because the scent vanishes almost instantly into thin air after spraying it on, and the only notes that I managed to get were soapy, synthetic and plain. So it was a firm no thanks from me.
To be honest, cannot figure out why Coty still hasn’t discontinued Kylie frags because they are of poor quality in every sense of the word. Other iconic songstresses of 21st century like Britney, Christina, Rihanna, Beyonce etc. have done so much better with their scents and really paid attention to the composition and quality. Kylie darling, please follow suit or quit making these mock fragrances…

On first application the fragrance is sugary sweet thanks to the berries. I can’t detect any bergamot, so I find the first five to ten minutes of MUSIC BOX to be far too sweet and cloying.
A touch of the fruit carries down into the heart, so there always remains a sweet undertone to everything. I’m not overjoyed by the floral notes; they are clean and airy, but they never seem to develop fully. In fact the only floral note I can place with any certainty is the watery rose, which gets lost in the jumble fairly quickly. As other reviewers have noted, the clean and airy floral mix is reminiscent of laundry detergent.
The base is the biggest letdown for me as Coty/Kylie always follow the same musk/sandalwood/amber base combination. Can we have something a little bit different please?
The staying power is poor; after only two or three hours, I struggle to get more then a brief whiff of sandalwood.
I used to love Kylie, so I make a point of sampling every single Kylie perfume [sometimes even blind buying online]. Unfortunately I’ve been disappointed every time and MUSIC BOX is sadly no different. It’s not awful, but it is too safe, and boring. I’m actually surprised that Coty are still releasing Kylie Minogue branded perfumes to be honest; most stores only stock the latest releases by her for a few months, then they are reduced to clear and vanish.

I have a confession to make. I am going to buy this fragrance simply because I love the bottle. It’s insanely cute, and even better than the pics. But I also have another confession. I like to buy all these custesy celebrity perfumes, use them maybe once, and then leave the bottle on my dresser to admire. After a few months the novelty wears off so I repack them up and give them to my niece for Christmas!
I might sound cheap but I figure someone else gets to love them all over again. And she actually uses the perfume!

I sprayed this on the back of my hand at the chemist yesterday.
I can say that after it settled, it reminded me distinctly of 3 perfumes.
Amor Amor, Lady Million and Glamorous by Moschino.
it really captured the elements of these perfumes that make them stand out and in my opinion what I like about them.
The frag lasted a good 4 hours before starting to fade, I would expect if sprayed on a warmer moister area such as decolletage or wrist it would last longer.
I didnt check the price of it so I cant comment on value for money but it seemed pretty good as far as celebrity huice goes.

I’m not a fan of Kylie perfumes, they are fruity, crisp and thin, and this one is (disappointingly) no different. I had higher hopes for this than for other fragrances of hers, and I will admit to being excited to try it, the bottle is fabulous, it looked and sounded like something I’d like! The notes sound delectable and I just can’t stay away from strawberry, raspberry or freesia, neroli, musk, sandalwood – some of my faves, in fact many of these comprise some my most base preferences! But neither are noticeable in this. This perfume goes on rather crisp, dry, very thin, and just a tad sour… then evaporates into nothingness. Too much bergamot, not enough of anything else. And I have to agree with takeasniff’s review below, the notes are indistinguishable. Its sour and crisp, but without a defined scent, with very little fruity overture which I expected from a raspberry/strawberry concoction. I also struggled to find anything floral. The reviews below indicate a strong tea scent and while I didn’t detect tea myself I can certainly see why they made that semblance, its thin, watery, and crisp – which is quite similar to the feel I get from most tea dominated fragrances. There is no depth or heart to this perfume, and I don’t consider it generic enough to be giftable either. Very low longevity and low sillage makes this a big thumbs down. The promo ad is extremely unflattering as well, the connotation is horribly obvious and imho its just nasty. Bottle is pretty, but thats about it.

I agree with the reviewer below. I have been waiting for this because I have always loved Kylie. I always grab a bottle of her new perfume to add to my collection. I always wear them and have no problems other than lasting power but I just respray them. However, this little number is in my personal opinion a disaster. I cannot understand what Kyle’s was thinking. I agree it smells like Persil. I sprayed it on and I thought this smells so much like something but I couldn’t put my finger on it and when I read the review below I realised that was it. It smells like some sort of laundry detergent with a vague and I emphasise vague berry undertone must be the raspberry because it is quite sour in a bad way. It slightly turned my stomach. When it settles it is quite descent but it just comes off as very undecided as to what it wants to be fresh or fruity or woody.
I will keep testing it because I never give up on a perfume as many of you know you can hate something and then months later you can’t live without it!
I am really hoping this one will grow on me otherwise I am bitterly disappointed. It lasts I will say that I couldn’t get the the little bugger to wash off. I know this sounds rediculous but when I walked out into the fresh air the perfume seemed stronger than indoors and there was a faint wiff of Nina Ricci’s Ricci Ricci because there is a freshness but a sourness but not nearly as well done as Ricci Ricci.
Thank goodness we have moved on from the Darling bottles as I was really sick of those and the Pink Sparkle bottles are really cheap in the flesh.

On the tester strip this is sweet creamy strawberry and raspberry with a hint of bergamot. Sweet and candy- like. It dries down pretty quick though and become fresher but still remaining the creaminess from the amber.
However, if you’re planning to buy this test on your skin first. It’s more musky and fresh on my skin. Not half as lovely as it smells on the tester strip but still nice.
Lasting power is around 4 hours but it becomes close to the skin quite quickly.

This is horrible! I smelt it today as my store got it in and its a disaster, where is the fruit?! I cannot smell the raspberry or strawberry! I saw it and my eyes lit up so i unboxed the tester and it was hideous! The lid was like gold plastic, felt really cheap and would have been so much nicer as a heavy metal and the sprayer was also very cheap feeling and it sprayed quite poorly! The topnotes were very stale and i couldnt pick out a note, it was just.. boring! then after an hour the tester strip smelt the same just faded, so there was no transition with the notes. The whole thing is just cheap down to the notes, bottle and packaging, I love the idea, it was just executed very poorly. Taken it out from my “i want it” and clicked dislike! Poor Poor Poor!!

I totally agree they knock just because they don’t like her. I can’t wait to try it and I love the bottle too.
