Description

Join the Club Collection includes ten perfumes representing ten different kind of virtual clubs. Fatal Charme is about elegance, glamour and fashion; Ivory Route is an adventure and travelling club; Marquee represents a theater club; Kind of Blue is all about jazz; 40 knots is a yachts club; Ascot Moon is a horse club; Birdie is for golf lovers; Comandante is for fine cigar lovers; Shunkoin is for meditation and More than Words captures the world of writers and poets.

The ingredients of these fragrances are to be kept a secret. However, each fragrance will have its identification card with a number which one could use to join the real club of the owners of these perfumes. That’s how the concept goes from virtual clubs to forming a real one.

The bottles of the fragrances are made out of authentic blue glass; not the tinted kind but the glass of which the production is limited and are very rare.
More Than Words was launched in 2012. The nose behind this fragrance is Chris Maurice.

I’m about to do something drastic… I’m going to sell my newly bought 100ml unopened bottle of Xerjoff’s ‘More Than Words’ and I’m feeling so guilty.
My story starts on the 6th floor of Harrods. This floor ‘Salon De Parfums’ is dedicated to the best fragrances that life can experience. From the private ranges of Tom Ford, Armani, Chanel and Dior to the worlds most exclusive brands like Roja Dove (all hail), Clive Christian, Henry Jacques, Merchant of Venice, Sospiro, Jean Michel Duriez, Floriku and Xerjoff. Each house is set in a luxury hotel suite style room, set off the main white marble floored corridor, which drips with crystal chandeliers. It was here that I first sprayed Xerjoff’s ‘More Than Words’ on my paper testing strip.
Yes it did remind me of Armani Privé’s ‘Rose D’Arabie’ which I own and love, but there was something altogether more complex, concentrated and buzzing with erudite energy about it. I left the strip on my bedside table and that’s when the magic began.
My boyfriend commented on the sweet scent which was wafting from my side of the bed. I explained the legend of More Than Words and highlighted that it was only one sprays worth and he said it was perfect.
That one-spray scent filled the bedroom for the next month. I was determined to get it, as the quality was exceptional with the longest silage I’ve ever known. I researched 100ml bottles but could only find 50ml available to buy in the U.K (there were some 100ml bottles were available to buy from Europe). I even emailed Xerjoff to ask if they still did the 100ml bottles, but heard nothing.
Luckily, a week later, I then went on a day trip to Amsterdam and found a wonderful fragrance shop that sold niche delicacies including Xerjoff. To my surprise (and the shop assistant) there was a 100ml bottle left! He explained that the 100ml wasn’t even available to buy on the website anymore and he confirmed my suspicions that they were phasing it out. So I bought the 100ml for €290, squirted 2 sprays from the tester on my neck, and left happy.
That’s before I ate a space cake and freaked out (a long, 5 hour story… come on, I’m in Amsterdam, allow it!) Unfortunately my drug fuelled bad experience was now linked to the smell of More Than Words. Days after, I can still smell the tester strip in my bedroom and I’m now reminded of my Fear And Loathing in Amsterdam experience. The vanilla note (which I detest but was making exceptions for) was now dominating and seeking to destroy me. At least with Rose D’Arabie, the vanilla note is undetectable and you get a less of a piercing sour fruit note and more of a tart juicy blackberry note.
So that’s why I’m now selling it.
More Than Words summery: The highest quality, longest lasting fragrance in history. Beautifully blended, an oud for oud haters (after the initial blast, it tones down to be an invisible but balancing oud) and perfectly unisex. Not too oud, not too sweet, not to fruity, a majestic and harmonious symphony of a fragrance blend… but the vanilla wants me dead.

Well,I tested it today.I was very curious about it,watching youtube, reading reviews…too strong at first, too harsh…offensive…very much dislike…nothing good to say, unfortunatelly.I don’t like when perfumes are like punch in the face, and it is a harsh punch…it’s not soft, gentle,(Chanel Allure homme, to name one)no manners…for me,it’s too rude.Very, very dissapointing.

Oud,oud and only oud, strong oud.I do not like it.There is something medical here.I tested it in luxury niche perfumery in Frankfurt, and I’m very disappointed with this perfume.
I tried to wash my hand and nothing helped,he was still there. I do not understand why so much hype.
    Scent 2/10

Xerjoff More Than Words (Eski şişe); ilk sıktığım an Armani Prive Rose d’Arabie’ye (RdA) benzeyen öd ve gül karışımı ama RdA’dan biraz daha tatlı ve oturaklı ve hatta daha rafine bir parfüm. İlk sıktığınız andan itibaren buram buram kalite hissiyatı ile yayılımına başlayan More Than Words sonrasında bu öd gül karışımı yapısını terkedip meyveli ferah bir tatlılık ve hafif çiçeksiliğe bürünüyor. Bu parfümü beğenmeyen çıkmaz.
Xerjoff More Than Words (Old bottle); Opening similar to Armani Prive Rose d’Arabie (RdA),a mixture of oud and rose but a slightly sweeter and even more refined perfume than RdA. After than 5 minutes it leaves the oud and rose blend structure and takes on a fruity fresh sweetness and mild floral style. Excellent scent.

The most beautiful representation of oud-rose with a mouth watering fruity sweetness that distinguishes this from the many other versions this combo. Absolutely stunning and totally unisex.

Recently tried this in Selfridges boutique. It’s just absolutely stunning, and it’s taken by storm first place in the queue for my next oudy fragrance. Was going to go for something more modest, like a Montale perhaps; but I think that might be ‘out the window’ now!
It’s a grief to me that many of those that were recommended to me when I put out a thread on oudy fragrances (and which recommendations I take very seriously – I have made a copy of the page) are just not available locally; and I do not travel a great deal, so it might be a while before I get to try them.
But, I do seriously think any of them would be hard-pushed to knock this one off its perch! I know it’s a rather hard-core one, and I was a tad scornful about another hardish-core one, namely Tom Ford’s Oud Wood Intense: but this one is hard-core with such class & finesse, it kind of comes full-circle, in a sense.

Decided to blind buy this after research here on Fragrantica, it arrived last week and I just had to try it on my skin. My god this juice is outstanding, very forward and fruity settling into warm, fruity, spicy seduction. Longevity is out of this world and far beyond anything I have ever experienced, in fact it still projects on my skin after 10-12hrs, with very noticeable ambergris note remaining after the dissipation of all else. Simply stunning performance and a must have, I liked it so much I called the seller back 3 days later and bought a second just for the hell of it, both bottles are the older style and pre 2013 batch codes. After trying this, my first Xerjoff, I am very interested in sampling other lines, quite simply…… quality gear.

That’s why I’ve got it as oil. Not chemical, and not synthetic 🙂
But still, one can’t sleep with this aroma. Too loud.

  10. :

    5 out of 5

I’m baffled by the positive reviews this gets. Ostensibly an oud/fruit/floral combo, More Than Words is, in reality, a loud, sloppy, screechy stew of nasty, synthetic aroma chemicals. Picking out a single lovely note in this nose-scorching smear of sugared brimstone is impossible. It’s hard to believe that Xerjoff, of all houses, could release something this awful. I hate it.

What I think to smell out of my sample is a perfect combination of oud, incense, a dark rose, dried fruit, a touch o dried tobacco leaves and delicate greens (vetiver, labdanum).
Beautiful and elegant beyond words, indeed. Extremely feminine also.

First time wearing…not as high sillage as I would have thought but the makeup of tsis one is very elegant and classy. Complex combo done just right. Opens bright and dries down perfectly with rose coming out very elegantly. Nice…

More Than Words…More like a lifestyle choice! The aroma of MTW is absolutely breathtaking.
Definitely a fine fragrance for writers and poets.
Think outside the box, freeing oneself from boundaries. Be bold, be beautiful, be…More Than Words!

This is a Masterpeace the best rose and oud combo i ever smelld and trust me i have smelled a lot oud & rose fragrances by many different exclusive brands. Some compare noir de noir by tom ford to this i can not see that this is nothing like n d n and n dn is shit compare to this .. this is similar to armani prive rose de arabi but this is much better i still like rose de arabi it is fantastic scent but just not as god as this one..oud and gourman lover: you must try this one out that is my messege to you

WOW!!! What a powerful elixir this is. I fell in love with this scent immediately after smelling it. Oud, rose, sweet vanilla, frankincense, patchouli, everything I want in a perfume. I wasn’t aware of how powerful this fragrance was the first time I wore it to work… the entire Salon smelled of this perfume. My Chinese colleagues, who rarely wear perfume, complained that it was too much. 1 spritz is more than enough. One of my faves!!!

I don’t know that why to be said this is similar to Noir de Noir from Tom Ford.
Noir de Noir is very better than this cologne.
    very sweet and feminine.
    Sorry I don’t like it.

I was very grateful to receive a sample of this from a fellow frag head, my first ever Xerjoff fragrance. Unfortunately this one isn’t me at all however I’ll review it below.
Another Oud blast with very sour fruity notes. Whoa…lots of Oud…overtaking everything. Someone just came near me at work and said “It smells like Vicks Vapo Rub over here and how it was making her breathe easier. Haha! Oops. Oud can become so astringent sometimes and the Oud in this..well..IS! It’s that wet ripe sharp oud that put me off most fragrances when I smell them. Add to that some really sour/sharp fruit and the opening made me want to run away.
Of course, this has to calm down a bit to really be appreciated.
Soft floral, almost powder like tones start to wash over this when it’s dry and a more realistic wood-like smell also. So, it’s altogether more dry but soft. The onslaught of oud has taken a back seat..thank goodness.
This creates a fragrance that to my nose is both masculine and feminine at the same time. GREAT!
Then comes the rose! Oh…another Oud/Rose combination. grrr. All too familiar…
    I’m turned off again..
I hope the other Xerjoff fragrances are more interesting.
EDIT: I had two more negative comments on this fragrance after writing this review. One person said I smelled like glue, and the other said I smelled like Methylated Spirits. Wow!

Not sure where everyone seems to be getting this “oud bomb” from. I just got a fresh sample to test and for me it comes off very much as a smokey plum and resin with heavy woods but not a hint of animalic or indolic oud. More testing needed.

  19. :

    4 out of 5

Nope; it’s just another oud tsunami. Huge disappointment!!
relentless and shame because the other ambery/raspberry-like fruity notes would seem to be very good if they had a chance to come above for air!
Opening kills it really; why be this challenging at this crazy price-point??!
    My rating: 3/10.
    Important edit:
I was surprised in Selfridges; they’ve moved to 100 ml bottles now that are an elegant purple. Not only is the £265 for it more reasonable than the crazy £200 they charged for the original tiny blue cut crystal in only 50ml, they’ve appeared to have reformulated it too, and significantly at that.
They’ve hugely nerfed the oud-bomb; right at the beginning. Now it’s much sweeter, still not actually gentle but much more appraochable, intriguing and inviting even.
Now I get candy-sweet raspberries in a cloud of vanillic-amber; very nice.
The amber in particular at 1st grows more dominant and it’s very intoxicating, rich and sensual almost. The, after 2 hours, you finally get the whale of oud back from the old original; it just gets stronger too, very powerful by 5 hours and here I’m not impressed at all.
But it’s much much better; it almost fools you totally to being a different scent! Well done to them for picking up on customer feedback and not curling up into a corner of stubbornness; still not quite a coveted 8 for me but it’s very very close
    7/10

I nearly passed out on the first whiff. So much oud nearly sucked all the moisture out of the room and me!! You really need to love oud to get on with this beast. I’m neutral on oud. There are fruity floral notes in the background that come much more evident after 30 minutes. Welcome to an oud fruity flower bomb. It is at this stage that I start to warm to this fragrance. I now become much more aware of the oriental notes and frankincense. This lasts for many hours. Great silage which means I would only wear it in a cool to cold environment.

I am somewhat 50/50 on this fragrance.
The good: The scent itself is absolutely wonderful…i cant even explain it. Its sort of fruity, woody, rosy….hard to describe. Definitely unique and pleasant. The longevity on this is superb.
The bad: This fragrance can be overpowering. Definitely a “beast”. I can see this being offensive to some people. Even today I wore this going out with a friend and he couldnt handle it and asked me to never wear it again. I find that its overpoweing to the person wearing it too. It is so strong that it becomes almost exhausting to breathe. I find myself washing it off half way through the day. ….oh, and this is with only ONE SPRAY. It really is a BEAST to the max. This is why I wear it so rarely.

Scent – oriental woods, berries & oud.
Season/Time of Day – I prefer to use this one in the colder months, day or night.
Projection – I did get noticed, it garners compliments.
    Longevity – I get 24hrs consistently.

Do I have to say the words?
Do I have to tell the truth?
Do I have to shout it out?
Do I have to say a prayer?
Must I prove to you how good we are together?
Do I have to say the words
He knows very well that the words can’t describe his feelings. So I guess he need our perfume (More Than Words) .
Many times the languages with its vocabularies stay capable in stand for our emotions and dreams So our perfume named by its name cause it’s simply a pure happens and optimization in a shiny blue bottle with a golden crown. It comes like a young smart prince set on his knees to make his proposal to the sun.
Fruity oud with roses may be there are many others notes but that all what I can feel all the time not in a tough way but elegant and smooth one.
Sillage is awesome and the longevity is unbelievable.
One of my top five. Enjoy

Hmmmmm, I don’t get the monster projection as other reviewers have stated (maybe its my skin). It’s an OK fragrance, but for the price I expected better. It smells like a cheap attar that I got once but I cant remember the name for the life of me. Dry down reminds me sort of Santal Royal Guerlain but less rich.

    To me this is amazing.
Power is insane I tell u insane I’m sitting In a coffe bar have with me a jacket I wore to Vienna 3 weeks back yes 3 weeks! And when the sales assistants sprayed this on my wrist it hit my sleeve end a bit of this jacket it still today not just smells of the fragrance but it even projects when I move the hand !?! Incredible lasting power probably strongest I came across and by far superior to anything I have in my collection.
As for the notes h either like or u don’t like them some had said this is for ladies only I don’t agree it can me very manly if I can pull it off!

Let’s start by saying that i have over 20 rose based niche scents and this has to be one of my favorite of them all followed by noir de noir and mfks.why you say? Well it’s basic and simple, what separates this from any other typical rose oud fragrance is the raw ingredients of course but those dried fruits at the top ohh man killer. And that amber gives a prefect sweet dry down.and can’t forget the spices i believe it’s saffron but just a pinch and maybe cinnamon. But this is a Tue masterpiece.

  31. :

    3 out of 5

I am very hard to impress as a male to be blow away by a rose fragrance. The most popular niche rose scents don’t really impress me and I also can’t stand floral notes. I have bad memories attached to flowers I think. Anyways, this powerhouse of a perfect rose fragrance blew me away. It’s done in such a great way that I even enjoy it. I don’t get that flower store rose vibe, it’s known that it’s a rose note but blended so perfect that us men can rock this so easy and smell so great while doing it. The longevity and projection are in BEASTMODE territory. Perfect.

Alluring, sensual, sexy, romantic scent..You can’t go wrong with this one..
The opening is to die for, A super sweet-fruity-floral-vanilla top with a tamed oud in the background.
After one hour the sweetness subtles without totally disappearing and the rose oud combo comes infront in the most natural and inoffensive way(this is the phase that shares similarities with some montales but very refined and lacks that harshness, more like an amouage quality) .
Now into the drydown you get a sort of acqua di parma’s oud or intense café kind of dusty sweet oud but with little bit of incense and sustained by a very natural ambergris.
    Projection
I like my fragrances strong and bold and this one does just that, incredible projection, you get your money’s worth with this one, On my skin MTW beats hands down my beloved interlude man in the projection department, go figure.
    Longevity
Talk about longevity,oh man this 50 ml bottle will last me forever as i get more than 24h longevity with 1 spray no exaggeration .
Quick story, when i first got a decant of this beauty i sprayed some on my shirt, later on i washed the shirt and i didnt wear it until 4 months later. Trust me on that day i was unable to wear another fragrance because this thing was still going strong and i even got a compliment.
Incredible fragrance 10/10 for me, the only down side is the versatility but at that price, this is a fragrance i wouldn’t use very often so more of a upper class, romantic, night out scenario.

  34. :

Gorgeous scent! Prominent rose is supremely blended with dried fruits and oud, breathtaking seriously, the most romantic scent I have ever tried.
High quality ingridients, you can detect almost every note it this masterpiece. Yes, I know, there are so many rose-oud scents on the market, but this, to me, is something special, I like to spray it on my arm when I’m going to bed, sweet dreams 🙂
    Harmony in the bottle.

  35. :

    5 out of 5

It reminds me of a rosary my parents bought me after visiting Italy way back when I was a kid. It had this particular scent to it, which More Than Words smells exactly like. A very natural rose, with that bit of wood scent, just like what the rosary was made of, but this fragrance also has much more of a complexity to it that makes it wonderful.
The fragrance itself is incredible. Normally, cheaper colognes have a sort of linear scent – meaning, you take in everything, but can’t really pinpoint each note easily. With this Xerjoff, you can individually detect all of the notes, the rose, the laburnum, the very subtle spices and wood notes, all at the same time.
When would I wear this? Definitely a romantic setting, or a very formal banquet or something. It’s not something I’d wear every day; I’d save it for the occasions it really matters. Maybe even a marriage proposal? Probably the perfect scent for that. When I think “romance” the scent that first comes to mind is rose.
However, I could see someone wearing this every day, however, that could become a financial burden in the long run.
However, this is VERY potent, concentrated stuff. All you need is one spray, believe me. I have a .07 mL sample, and to this day I can still smell it!
Overall, I give MTW a solid nine {9} out of ten. Again, a very romantic sentimental scent because of the rose and complexity.

I agree that this is similar to Opus V1. Although this one seems a bit lighter to me and a touch aquatic.
They are both extremely nice fragrances but I would probably stick with the Amouage.
Sillage and Projection seem to be similar between the two..GOOD

  39. :

    4 out of 5

Wow, this is amazing! The first hit is sweet and spicy; it gives me the same feeling as those Mexican chile candies or the spicy tamarind paste that the kids eat. I want to eat it because I have fond memories of spicy candies as a child! And then the scent quickly morphs into a rose/oud based scent with maybe a hint of patchouli. The scent maintains sweetness, although the initial sweet candy smell fades into a more floral type sweetness. The scent becomes a dusty, woody rose scent as it softens, and the oud is almost nonexistant to my nose. Overall it’s a really nice, pretty, rose scent that can be worn by men or women (and I would almost say it swings slightly more towards the feminine side). Is it fb worthy? Well, no, I think I’d rather have Noir de Noir, but it’s still beautiful and the top notes, although fleeting, are absolutely stunning.

  40. :

    4 out of 5

Wow!!! The JTC collection has just stepped it up a notch, what a fragrance this is!!!!
    Gorgeous!
    Stunning!!!
    Wonderful!!!
The opening is one of dried fruit, a creamy patchouli and Labdanum, the rose steadily grows after that, all the while my senses tingling with excitement…because I know what this fragrance is delivering.
Rose/Oud combo of the highest quality with a dimension of patchouli, the sharpness of labdanum and I detect a bit of frankincense and myrrh.
Have I smelled anything like this before? Of course I have… But it’s a winning formula.
Something about the opening of this fragrance sets it apart a little bit from the likes of Armani Rose d’Arabie (which is incredible too) to which it is very similar.
I think the rose in this is strong yet quite subdued it’s as much about oud and resin for me.
Xerjoff have created a truly brilliant (if not very original)thing here and about time too because after trying a fair few of their fragrances now I’m still on the fence about them as a house.

More Than Words. For me, it is uniquely congruent to my lifestyle. I am proud to be a nonconformist.
Although I have read reports where it is suggested these ingredients have been included: Benzoin, Castoreum, Frankincense, Labdinum, Oud and Civit with caramelised fruits. Combined give a melliferous sweetness tone to my nose, going beyond an eau de parfum level – it is more like an extract or pure perfume blend.
The feelings being conjured within me from smelling MTW are evocative, enticing my imagination to explore possibilities which are more than the sum of words. I did feel that a poetic description is perhaps the best way to convey these experiences, yet they are also beyond definable lyricism.
Elegant, Erotic, Graceful, Illusory, Imaginative, Intangible, Refined, Romantic, Sensual, Sexy. These are a brief list of words as an attempt to support the chimerical quality of this scent. Yet the more I try to link them they become inadequate and lack harmonious eloquence.

“No regrets, no pain, no sorrow.
Everything will fade as apple blossom…” This words of Sergei Yesenin are from my mum volume of poetry, that was read out to the holes and it’s still on the book shelf like one of my favorite books. More Than Words perfume by Xerjoff is like an old book splash you by memories waves, and then leaves the long lasting scent of sandalwood and ink. Like Alice and her key of a secret garden, I was walking through the garden of my sensations of the books I read ones, driven by this strange and at the same time inviting aroma. Is it possible to explain with words the feeling? Could you describe aroma with words? I think that you should just quietly reveal the hidden door of Poets Club and then holding your breath for hours listen to the brilliant words, inhaling the magical aroma of old tomes?..

“Nessun rimpianto, nessun dolore o dispiacere.
