Description

Modern Muse Nuit is announced as an intoxicating scent that embodies the mystery, glamour and sensuality of a night to remember. Inspired by intrigue and the “noir” theme, the new fragrance explores the deeper and darker side of the original. The floral – woody – oriental composition combines sophisticated floral tones with creamy woods as a contrasting accord.

A “Hypnotic florals accord” contains flowers and berries. The fragrance opens with mandarin and blackcurrant bud. Blue chamomile provides a deep botanical edge to jasmine absolute and Chinese sambac jasmine, all wrapped in creamy heliotrope.

An “Addictive woods accord” balances refined woods with elegant, creamy sensuality. A sandalwood accord is mixed with the Clearwood ™ molecule, capturing the pure warmth of patchouli, tonka bean, vanilla from Madagascar, amber and musks.

The face of the perfume is Kendall Jenner. The fragrance comes in a dark navy bottle with golden detailing, available as a 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum with a make up line under the same name. Modern Muse Nuit was launched in 2016.

I smelled this on a client once and had to ask her what perfume she was wearing because it was so good. Sadly it worked a lot better with her skin than it did with mine, but it is a lovely fragrance nonetheless – sweet and classy with good projection.
Didn’t have the same wow factor on me as I’ve had with other patchouli and sandalwood-heavy perfumes but it’s certainly likeable.

Modern Muse Nuit by Estée Lauder..
Sometimes you think you know something and then you realize you really don’t or didn’t. I have a dislike history with Modern Muse and its flankers. Never took kindly to this line at all.
I’ve had many of my perfume friends tell me, “Janice try Modern Muse Nuit.” I’d be told that they pay attention to what I wear, and they just knew I would like this Flanker. I’ve put it off for a very long time. Having no interest at all. Until one day I was reading a thread on goumands. Someone said Nuit had a kindred spirit to Noir Pour Femme, even though the notes did not give that impression. At that moment, I became intrigued. I decided to read reviews, and further investigate the fragrance. At that point I became more intrigued. I finally gave in and BLIND BOUGHT Nuit. You would think I would had tested first knowing my dislike of Modern Muse. Nope, I took the full plunge diving right in.
Finally my bottle arrived. Tested on paper first. Initially I got a fizzy root beer accord. I thought what is this funny mystical concoction? As time passed, I thought it was time to test on me.
WOW, was I blown away! Yes indeed it has the same vibe as Noir Pour Femme, but not as sweet, and a bit more bubbly. A very sensual, provocative, alluring DIVA this is! I thought, “DANG”, I smell sexy!
I suppose the fizzy part comes from the aromatic accord mixed with the delightful yet dark spices. As it opened up I was getting a nice citrus, berry mixed with a aromatic chamomile. After that this breezy mix of florals suduced me, and I was surrounded by one of the most beautiful jasmines ever accompanied with heliotrope. How creamy, smooth! Finally that sultry base. Oh GOD, how divine! The amber, the patch, the woody notes, and the soft sandalwood. I was totally and utterly smitten.
I felt the gourmand vibe, but yet on a completely different level than ever before. Unique and very different. I could not believe I waited so long to try this. I want to thank all my friends who suggested it. You were right on point. It is me, and I adore and love it so. I think this fragrance has leaped up into my top 10.
I think in the future, I will listen with open ears much more to my fragrance friends. Xo

Very cozy and comfortable scent . I am a fan of tonka beans in fragrance and here it is very prominent and I love it . It is warmer Magie Noire to me …

I am really impressed with this fragrance. I enjoy wearing it both day and night.
It opens with an immediate breadth and depth achieved through spiciness, freshly cut wood chips and warm vanilla. As it softens, a sweet balsam with a hint of cherries begins to come through. Its sweetness and deeper woodsiness are wonderfully balanced and it remains complex without veering too far in any direction. There is a soft warmth to it yet a cool crispness is also present. It doesn’t loose any of its complexity nor uniqueness once it has dried down.
The color of the bottle and perfume match well with the images and feelings this scent evokes for me. It exudes sensuality and comfort and makes me think of feminine strength and allure. The colors I see when I smell it are of a twilit sky, with its saturated vibrant blues.
I will be keeping this as a stand-alone scent in my collection and am happy to have found it.

Estee lauder Modern Muse Nuit has nothing to do with other members of Modern Muse family.I guess it acts differently on different people, unlike others I don’t find it much sweet or much floral.heliotrope is easily detectable but there’s just slightest hint of jasmine on my skin.true star is tonka bean here, but I can’t deny important roles of vanilla, patchouli and sandalwood too.dominant patchouli and sandalwood can easily make me hate a perfume but there’s nothing to hate here. It’s such a smooth and comforting scent.MMN also has definitely a strong aromatic undertone thanks to chamomile which I find very pleasant.
It’s darkish but also powdery and subtle scent reminds me Givenchy l’anje noir and Lolita lempicka l’eau de Minuts(at least the 2013 version which I have).I also agree that it brings Mon Guerlain and TF Noir Pour Femme to mind.not that they smell the same, just that they belong to the same family of powdery, slightly smokey vanilla-tonka blended with some woody and aromatic notes.yes,I feel something smokey here,as if it’s blended with a tiny bit of black licorice and myrrh and I find something dark chocolate-like(tonka bean? or patchouli?)and as mentioned by fellow fragranticans something like lavender.
The overall scent is warm, subtle and creamy.yummy but in an adult,non-syrupy sweet way.addictive and seductive as well as cozy and soothing. It’s different with routine floral/fruity/gourmand feminine fragrances and I believe that a man can pull it off
Longevity is really good but sillage doesn’t past moderate on me.It’s better suited for colder months of year.while it’s different with my typical favorites,I’m happy to have it and like and crave it sometimes.
    It’s love it’s bottle and it’s liquid’s color.

The chamomile in this smells like lavender. It’s a sweet, woody, amber with a herbal note smelling of a dusty lavender. I also think it smells like honey in the top. The sandalwood and heliotrope become more prominent as it wears. To me, it’s the love child of Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme and Guerlain Mon Exclusif.

Modern Muse’s night-time sister! A dark beauty for the midnight hour that complements the daytime Modern Muse.
Dark amber soothed by gentle camomile make this a gentle scent to navigate into evening. Dark blue bottle so lovely in the light of the silvery moon. Great scent with a nice silage trail.

very sweet – one dimensional, mature scent
    moderate silage

I used to have EL’s Pleasures Delight (which was discontinued) and I LOVED it! My mother-in-law complimented me on it and I gave her my half full bottle, only to find I couldn’t replace it. : ( I hadn’t realized it was discontinued. For some reason Modern Muse Nuit reminds me so much of that Pleasures Delight I’ve been missing all these years… it must be the common notes of vanilla, patchouli & heliotrope… I’m enjoying it so much!!

This is the heaviest fragrance I’ve ever try from Estee Lauder, and I like it a lot. It has some spices, like oriental notes dry down. My drawbacks about this fragrance is it doesn’t last that long and feels weird if I sweat like there is glycerin running down through my skin. Like for +$100 it should have like 8 hours wear time with consistent strength but this on the 5th hours it washed out and just like slightly there.

Having tested Modern Muse Chic and other Estee Lauder fragrances I thought this time to wear Modern Muse Nuit. See what this one has to tell. Now, I’m far from dissapointed from havind discovered a sweeter Alien Mugler.
The opening of MMN is sweet, juicy and caramelic, mellow like LVEB Absolue flanker, some pungent fruity coctail mess, inbetween grape and pomegranate, nondescript condenced fruity juicy opening. Far from sygary but sweet nonetheless.
Nothing to worry though because at a second phase, the juice turns into perfumey: jasmine, somewhere I sense some orange blossom hints, white floral definitely but honeyed. You don’t completely lose the sweet part but don’t ever think it takes the whole stage.
Drydown is the heady jasmine with a smokey amber along with a moderate melted caramel feel. At times I also get a vague rubber-car tire note as well. That’s what differentiates it from Alien, it’s a tad sweeter, of course it projects way less, but lasted up to six hours, which is enough to pass the test.
    ————————————————————————————————–
So, I decided to write the fragrance review first, before continuing to the second part of this post, which is to bring some attention to what’s happening in the description of Fragrantica for MMN.
I honestly tested the perfume without seeing any information about it, nothing, nada, it wasn’t even on my testing list for that day. And what I got as a result did not smell anything like the description above, I mean more notes added, the description adds berries(?), wth? Did they reformulate already?
I don’t think so, as I went straight to the official uk site, and the greek too, but that’s just a translation of the uk one; also I did not see MMN on the estee lauder.com, I guess that’s the USA site. Whatever, they claim that MMN is a floriental to which I wholeheartedly agree, it’s by definition floral oriental. And the notes listed are these:
    ●Rum Accord
    ●Jasmine Absolute
    ●Sandalwood
    ●Musk
    ●Amber
I’m sorry but the notes arrangement that Fragrantica presents would result into a completely different perfume that’s far from what I’m smelling.

I’d say this is a wearable oriental, safe, on the sheer side if you ask me. It’s nice but I’m no fan of the dry down on my skin… It just turns wishy washy, barely there after about 2 hrs.

  13. :

Well it seems like everybody is creating their own version of TM’s Angel or CD’s Poison. This is “nice” enough, definitely along the lines of being an Angel or a Poison flanker. There is a definite warmth here…..Definitely a very familiar scent, nothing unique. But nice enough, nonetheless.
Definitely a “perfume” smell, and as with pretty much all Lauder fragrances for me, this smells synthetic and ‘manufactured’, and just very “perfume-y” to me..no “natural smells” here to me/for me.
IMHO, this is more of a night time, cooler month fragrance for the most part….but wear what you want, when you want. Not a frilly nor overly feminine nor floral, nor a froo-froo scent. Almost unisex…ALMOST. A warm, comforting smell.
Patchouli? Yes, make no mistake, you will detect the patchouli. Musk? You bethca! Amber? Yep. Tonka? Oh yeah. They are all very much detectable here. Sandalwood is not being shy here, either.
I do think this could be headache-inducing, so I’m not sure this is office-safe or good for when/where you will be in close quarters with someone/people for a length of time. I do like this well enough, and I will wear this in the cooler months…but these days, I do not think this is very original. Feels too much like an Angel or a Poison flanker, and there is no shortage of those these days, especially as I mentioned, it feels like everybody and their brother and sister in the perfume world is trying to duplicate Angel or Poison. Nice, just not very original. Can be a little heavy, so I think a couple quick spritzes is plenty.

  14. :

    Sorry for the duplicate post!
I read the reviews and figured I would give it a go as a blind buy since most people seemed happy with it or at worst underwhelmed. I ordered a small sampler and waited on a chilly day as patch and I have a love/hate relationship on warmer days.
One spray to the wrist and it quickly settled into a warm cloud of deliciousness. Honestly I fell in love almost immediately and within ten minutes I was ready to buy a large bottle. Kind of like meeting someone and knowing you don’t know them that well to like them so much but by gosh, you just do! The chemistry just clicks! I waited to see if the patch would grow into a cloying, dirty annoyance as it sometimes does but to my pleasant surprise it stayed linear. Just as when you wait fearfully for your new potential partner’s darker, dirtier elements to emerge – but alas what you see (or smell) is what you get! No surprises here but sometimes you just want a straight forward partner eh hem, perfume that reliably delivers and is of some quality!
The chamomile is really the star IMO as it warms up everything and takes the other notes to a new level. I concur with another reviewer in that it is definintely a comforting scent. If sipping chamomile tea under a soft blanket with candles lit had a scent this would be it. The sillage is moderate to strong as only one spray on the wrist reached my nose for hours. It projected a good 8 hours and is still a close skin scent over 12 hours later as I write. It reminds me of some older 80’s perfumes – some well done, some a little cheap perhaps, but nonetheless this one is sophisticated.
Though I don’t have a Swiss lover to provide feedback from the male perspective as Bee-young-ka so amusingly shared, I did however receive a compliment from a fellow gas station patron while wearing this. I was told that I smelled good and looked beautiful and he offered to throw away the trash in my hand. So that’s something LOL.
A safe blind buy, consistent progression in scent over time, appropriate for any environment and day or evening. I just committed to a 3.4 oz bottle! I like that it’s not readily available in the U.S. and a bit obscure. I think this one will be my new fall/winter signature for daily wear!

I have already reviewed that I liked this fragrance after testing it while on holiday.
I’m not fussed with the other flankers, vinyl note or not.
I kept my tester strip and sniffed it till it wore out thinking what a great tonka scent.
It finally turned up in the shops out here and I bought it straight away.
On paper I swear I can smell tonka/lavender but on my skin it’s amazing, like fine bitter chocolate,
My Swiss Lover who is rarely articulate when asked if he approves of (another) new scent said “This makes me think of when I was young”.
This is high praise considering he mostly responds to the question of what does this smell like to you?
    “?Parfum?”
I could not be more happy with my purchase, expensive but well worth it.
I could see this being used so often as to become my signature in the future.
    Scent 10/10
    Bottle 10/10

Smelled lovely on the paper. Sadly just on paper… on my skin all I get is tonka, patchouli and vanilla. Overpowering and headache inducing, overly sweet and cloyoing.
I loved the bottle much more than the juice. Too intense.

    Love ❤️
Slightly sweet incess like (or amber) I like it a lot, elegant cozy not overwhelming, got compliments and I’m going to buy a second bottle soon
    For fall or winter
Edit : for me overwhelming is LVEB
It’s like vainilla with some dark side

    tonka and lavender with sandalwood.
it’s the best of the Muse range IMO.

A nice Oriental. On my skin I get mostly Tonka, Vanille, Woodsy-notes, Amber, Jasmine & Musk. Not loud, not skinclose neither. Just perfect in sillage and on my skin a nice scent about 6-7 hours. Perfect for every-day-use and with some extra spray’s a perfect party-scent. Lovely.
Ljuvlig.

After 7 years wearing Burberry London i finally wanted a change!!(although i adore this perfume,i got tired)so since i am very picky when it comes to perfumes i was searching for 1 month (appr.every 2 days) my next perfume…And here i am! Love at first sniff! So happy i found it!

  22. :

    4 out of 5

A lovely oriental perfume, much better than Modern Muse or Modern Muse Le Rouge, which I tested both. However, I only found it, as initially said, “lovely” and without it making a statement. It’s a safe evening perfume for a lady in her early 30s, but it won’t cause a stir. Very poor longevity.

  23. :

    3 out of 5

This smells very similar to MJ Decadence to me, with patchouli instead of vetiver. The vanilla and jasmine sambac are the standout notes, followed by patch, tonka, Amber and musk. If a sweet sensual amber with a patchouli musk base sounds like your cup of tea then this is for you. I really like it, the silage is pretty close to the skin, I wish it was stronger but this is altogether quite lovely.

  24. :

I swapped a face care product that I got as a gift and I didn’t need with this one during Christmas, but I just started wearing it the other day. I wanted something woodier than my usual oriental florals. I think I got it right.
Although I like it a lot, I think that Estee Lauder somehow misses that vibe that’s present in pretty much everything french. It smells good but it doesn’t exactly smell expensive.
Silage is ok, longevity not that much.
    I don’t think I will purchase again.

  25. :

I don’t think of dark and seductive or young and cheap.
To me this is very much a comfort scent. They same way i see tobacco vanille.
Its got the blend of earth and wood along with a nutty sweetness.
Something i see wearing on cold rainy days or just when craving something cozy and warm.
The only problem is half an hour later the scent had mostly disappeared and all that was left was a kind of fake tan smell. Im going to try this on my skin again next time and hope the skin chemistry goes better because the opening was beautiful.
edit : some similarities with prada amber intense

  26. :

as otherd had said, it smells a bit cheap. like one of theose celeb fragrances from the cheap grugstores. this one is trying to look all dark ans mysterous and night-ish but it still comes out a bit cheap-i cannot tell whether it is because of some synthetic ingredients or just the mix. it does not smell bad, and it is pleasantly sweet and warm, but no way i am spending money on it. i believe this one also might be appealing to 20 year olds looking for a night, darker scent, but i am in my 40s and want something woth bit more depth, something more real.

  27. :

    4 out of 5

Despite of the commercial, I can’t think of this as opulent, dark and mysterious.
I imagine a girl in her early 20th wearing this fragrance. She’s happy, she is fun, but she wants to smell a bit more sulrty and seductive. She is tired of fruty-floral and just wants a change in her life, it could be only a perfume, however still a change.
From the very beginning patchouli comes forward and never leaves the scene. It’s quite edgy here more like Angel type of patchouli. Then it gets more rounded due to vanilla and tonka beans. Unfortunately, I don’t smell any sandalwood and jasmin here, they would make this fragrance more wearable for me.
I find this fragrance very cute, suitable for everybody who loves patchouli based perfumes. Definetely one of the best offerings on the market!

I expected spicier or heavier scent, but it`s not. I like it though. It`s something similar with Burberry Brit notes, maybe tonka and vanilla dose.
It`s easy to wear day or night, summer or winter for me. I can recommend to blind buy, because you can`t find in USA for testing easily.

I was so curious about this one.. even thought about buying it untested ( which i do rarely..) from eBay. Well i’m glad i didn’t. Reading all the wonderful reviews here i got to think that we’re talking about something very unique here, and as i finally managed to test it today in my local department store, i was so disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, I do like it, it is very good actually! But not as good as i thought it would be, and definitely not as special – what i mean to say is that it’s a quit mainstream fragrance! Reminds me of the ‘Good Girl’ from Herrera.. Sweet, a bit balsamic with the tonka bean, but eventually screaming – ‘Mainstream’! Just as another member’s review here i read, I smell another dull fruity floral perfume, Nothing special..

  30. :

    5 out of 5

I really like this. I got a sample through the door this morning and I’m hooked already. I can already hear my bank manager groaning.
I get sandalwood, patchouli and vanilla more than anything else, resulting in a welcome different take on the more mainstream powdery fragrances. It’s nice to have something a little different available. One frugal spray is all it takes to set this scent free, it’s big, attractive and it lasts well. This will get many compliments because it’s a head turner.
My nose tells me this would be perfect for men too.
All that in one spray! Value for money indeed!

I tried it yesterday and oh I’m so loving it! Warm, rich, deep, intoxicating yet not heavy or too sweet. Beautiful, well balanced fragrance. Creamy. Like a liquid cashmere. I got to have it.

This smells on me like Christmas morning, delicious vanilla/cinnamon/caramel/tangerine/spice/frosty winter air-assosiations. Ideal for cold winter days and cosy evenings/parties with family and friends. Though I really can’t picture this on me on a warm summer day because it’s just associated with December’s cosy gloom and party atmosphere.
Longevity is enormous!! It stays on my wrist even the next evening after 2 showers and many handwashes!!
I can’t call this a unique scent, it’s another Black Opium/Poison Girl sort of thing, but very well made, with good longevity. Ideal for now (december) if you’re looking for alternative to the above mentioned Black Opium.

Christmas was in mind, when I tried it. Glorious, smokey, warm, inviting. Something sweet opoponax, sligthly resinous, ambery ligth. Almost gourmand, but grown-up, special, well-behaved, and interesting.
I find it similar to Juicy Couture Gold with less caramell.

  35. :

Beautiful. Mature sweet patchouli, without being cloying, perfect for night. Superb silage and longevity.Last but not least, the bottle looks very chic.

  36. :

It is so spicy and reminds me of Christmas somehow. Tonka bean note is quite nice in it. I also sense sandalwood and vanilla.
The top notes were not that nice, more okayish.
It’s much better than the Le Rouge Gloss, which I hated with passion. A total winter scent, suitable for evenings.
It’s good, nothing like other Modern Muse scents.

Minty Mouth is spot on. I have a bottle of 24 Gold and it’s almost identical (maybe a little less woody). I liked it, but due to owning 24 Gold I don’t need it. It’s an oudh-y, sweet vanilla, perfect for cool evenings.

Thanking Estee Lauder on my bare knees for this
I was looking for something special, something different. Came across Modern Muse Nuit in the pharmacy and fell in love with it. First attracted by its looks, later head over heels with the personality. The bottle is incredible with the blue fluid and it matches the dark and mysterious scent this is. It is feminine with a unisex touch. Modern Muse Nuit has a vibe of confidence and sensuality to it, truly irresistible. It is very outspoken and therefore not for everyone, but according to me and people around me, this fragrance is divine. I can go on and tell you about the notes, yet with a fragrance like this the only thing relevant, is the emotion and feelings it draws out. Honestly, I think it is the best fragrance that was made in years… I have been craving a perfume that knocks me off my feet for a while now and it seems that I found it.

Very surprised to report that this is a 90% clone of another – very unexpected – fragrance: 24 Gold by Scentstory.
Seriously, if you’ve ever smelled that ephemerally hyped middle-eastern fragrance (it’s more popular amongst men than women) you will notice the striking similarity right away. Anyone else get this?

At first it’s strange, hard to describe. A bit later it starts to be really nice. Pleasantly, softly oriental, with warm heliotrope & sandalwood notes. I wish I loved it, because this bottle is such a beauty! However, I won’t buy it just for the bottle.

  46. :

This is a TRUE beauty. Unmistakably has an aura of “night”. Very dark flowers and spices, and an enchanted feel to it. A distinctive touch of sweet chamomile. Embraces the freshness of a beautiful exotic evening.

Wekk I can’t believe I’m only the 17th person in the world to vote on Estee Lauder’s new scent! I agree with others that it’s a well crafted fragrance in a lovely bottle. Unfortunately, on me it isn’t having the same effect on men it had for ance.silina ;( but I am enjoying sniffing it myself!

  48. :

    3 out of 5

So nicely constructed!! I love the smell of Muse Nuit, it has an aromatic vibe throughout, must be the camomille, it has also a freshness, the scent isn’t heavy, although it has that oriental undertone..it is a great balance of floral and woodsy notes, never too thick, or heavy..although I am not a big patchouli fan, it works in Muse Nuit the patchouli is present , warm, but not earthy…I don’t find it be a dry dirty patchouli like in Angel..this fragrance is rounded and feminine, beautifully crafted, the most interesting of the Muse versions..it is mùch smoother than the TF creations..it envelops the skin of a warm sensuous veil..I find it has some resemblance to Cavalli Nero Assoluto, in the warm woodsy vibe..
    Happy to own it!!

  49. :

    Very good night scent.
Reminds me a lot of Tom Ford’s noir pour femme and has some resemblance with Black Orchid, too.
Seems to me a more wearable version of the above mentioned perfumes, as it is rounder and softer.
Excellent longevity: on my skin lasted more than 8 hours!
    Worth to try!

  50. :

    4 out of 5

A very modern fragrance from the house of Estee Lauder. The notes blend beautifully together and I can definitely smell vanilla and jasmine with a dirty patchouli smell (smells amazing). Longevity is average and sillage is enormous for the first 2hrs but now it is a skin scent which still smells like vanilla. It smells like a dirty Thierry Mugler Angel. This is a good thing I promise.

Got my hands on this precious beauty and oh my god, this is so dark, sensual and addictive! The first day I sprayed it my boyfriend went totally crazy and complimented my great fragrance 5 or 6 times! And now EVERY time I spray it he goes absolutely crazy and keeps sniffing me all the time. Sounds creepy, right?! I have owned many fragrances (and few boyfriends, haha) but this is the first time when anything like that happens. This fragrance is real magic! This will be the ultimate man magnet scent – wear it on a date or a night out and be sure that every male around you will go crazy.

I’ll definitely try this for sure! Modern Muse and it’s flankers so far are just too “bright” for me. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I like brighter perfumes, but I’m a dark, balmy perfume girl by heart. I’m looking forward to testing this!

I don’t care for camomile in fragrance normally but this is a must-try anyway.

Amber seems to be the new Oud. I see Amber-note in so many new scents – good – I like amber i many different mixes, its a great note in parfumes.
