Ebay AND Fragrantica Thank You!
This rare discontinued 1977 Italian fragrance from the house of designer Emilio Pucci is actually available to anyone who looks for it. The dab on bottles selling on eBay are listed on the Fragrantica Page for the Miss Zadig perfume section. The notes listed on the page are floral notes and oriental notes. This is a general classification because while it is a floriental it’s not heavy and it’s quite subtle, sweet and classical. The eau fraiche is a lighter concentration, soapy, demure, almost suited to a young girl under 13. She is a lovely floral perfume with a bubble bath type of feel to it. If this came in a huge bottle I would pour it into my bath water. Essentially this is the same as Miss Zadig, a floral Oriental, with the same notes, but this is much more subtle and lasts a shorter time.
The initial scent is of soft aldehydes, those soap suds with a citrus thrown in: bergamot orange and lemon. This starts to smell like a pleasant lemony hand soap which is not a bad thing, or like a lovely toilet water kept in your bathroom. The sweet floral notes emerge out of the citrus, opening up like blossoms and small buds. The rose is prominent, a pink little rose with a perfumed sachet type of scent. There’s jasmine and violet notes, all of which turn powdery and fade fast but boy are they lovely smells. The floral notes are the key ingredients so if you like aldehyde florals, especially if you are used to them, this is a very lovely old time aldehyde floral.
The white florals are also very well composed. That jasmine is the big note with a delicacy that reminds one of a scented scarf. This is like a 1960’s or 1970’s colorful neck scarf, a gossamer fabric. It reminds me of colorful Pucci minis both on young and older women. It is also making me visualize actress Maggie Smith in her Oscar winning film “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie”. This is now considered a mature older lady’s perfume but when it was released it was marketed for younger women.
The floral scents of rose and jasmine segue into the dry down of Oriental character. I detected the light sandalwood, the cedar, the moss, the oak, and some musk. A note of green vetiver is in the dry down as well, totally matching up with the green notes which are present in the top notes and also embrace the florals which are both white and green florals. Fraiche or “fresh” is indeed fresh, flowery, citrusy, and even the woodsy notes never get too dry or darkly Oriental. This is a sweet perfume which makes for a fine intro to florals and vintage perfumes. Ebay is selling them so if you are a vintage fragrance fan and collector and want to discover the joy of this fragrance check it out. Ebay is the only place that can shop (or bid) for fragrances of yesteryear. It is great that Fragrantica links the vintage perfumes to Ebay. Lastly I would say that this is a spring and summer fragrance. It’s fresh, fruity, floral, citrusy, and delicious like a drink made of flowers and orange juice, light, and invigorating for an after shower or bath water fragrance to perk you up.
