The size of my collection means I’ll be wearing perfume until I’m 100 and I still won’t get through it so I’m trying to be pickier about new purchases, but this one was such a warm comforting surprise that I had to purchase a 30ml, which can be found for under $30 on eBay …. so small price in comparison to others that I love. And this is a love.
It’s a delicious, gooey balsamic vanilla with a warm wood base. This is a beautiful blend, nothing feels out of place. Midnight Shimmer is a slow burn without much change from the moment you spray to the end, just softening in strength. Projection is soft and I get 2 hours max. from start to finish.
My only complaint – and it’s an easy one to overlook – is that I think the bottle doesn’t match the perfume. It’s angular, kinda awkward to hold, and cheesy with the addition of a gold spray paint that you can actually feel. The bottle has texture which I think is a mistake. The name is kinda dumb too. I might be more sensitive to this because of my design background but I can’t help but think this was a missed opportunity. With a better name and bottle design this would no doubt be a bigger hit. At this moment, it’s flying under the radar, and it’s much to my delight.
Krieg – :
I’m usually unimpressed by these high street fashion brands but this one just grabbed me by the soul and that’s very rare for me! It’s a warm woody vanilla, kind of a toasting marshmallows outside in the woods by the fire kind. And it just wafts so nicely from warm skin, woods and vanilla are just the best combo for a comfort scent. I do wish it was more of a beast but still love it.
3020072007 – :
My favorite night time vanilla…so awesome.
Sillage is very weak and so is longevity btw. People who say it’s strong must hose themselves with this thing lol
Deroxbbsxk – :
This is very nice! Less woody than I expected and more vanilla. I’m getting a sweet vanilla, bordering on marshmallow-like scent but in the best way. It’s definitely gourmand but in a more sophisticated than candy sweet way. I’m slowly leaning from like to love on this gem. And I bought it blind from Marshalls . I got a 1 oz bottle for $20 and it’s well worth it.
Bear in mind I like Strong scents, and this one is definitely very strong, so take it easy when you start spraying and see what you’re comfortable with.
Edit: it’s not strong to my nose anymore, I guess it was only the first couple of introductory wears in which I smelled it more prominently because it was new to my nose. But now I do still smell it but it’s much softer. So I have to take back what I said about this being a “strong scent”. It’s a beautiful scent still but softer than I first perceived.
WabWhanny – :
Sweet, warmed woods. Reminds me of burning marshmallows on a campfire… Definitely more amber and wood notes to me than vanilla- especially for the first few hours, but there is a gentle sweetness even from the beginning.
Strong but softly sweet woods up front, eventually drying down to a smoother and sweeter vanilla with peru balsam (which is one of my favorite notes ever), which is close to skin after a few hours.
Awesome blind buy for me, but I tend to like those feminine resinous and incense type woods.
A definite love, especially for cooler weather and nights.
tomiki – :
For some reason, this little gem was hard to find. I didn’t buy this the first time I saw it when I was tossing between this and the other Michael Kors Exotic Blossom and ended up with the latter as I had decided I had too many sweet fragrances. Since then I started wishing I had bought Midnight Shimmer but it was by then really difficult to find. Finally after two months I scored and yet sadly it was the only one of the Michael Kors perfumes in the Pharmacy store that I found it in that wasn’t on sale. Nevertheless I happily took out my plastic card and paid it. And have not regretted it! The sweetness is beautiful with the woody notes so that it doesn’t make it cloying on me and the white floral notes actually stop this scent from being too sweet. I could probably wear this during warm weather but not when the heat is extreme. Projection is okay and longevity about 4-6 hours depending on the kind of activity I am doing. The flanker is so gorgeous and definitely one of my favourites in my collection. Love it!!
Tupmah – :
This actually smells like a slightly less salty version of Paco Rabanne Olympea on me. And I adore Olympea!
SAN94 – :
I’ve had this for several months and only wear it occasionally. It’s…okay. Please bear in mind that I really don’t like woody notes, and this was a blind buy, so I really can’t complain. On my skin, I get heavy pipe tobacco/pipe smoke that is just about overwhelming, and I like cigarette and pipe smells. I think am the only one getting it, so that may just be my perception of the wood. I was hoping for more vanilla, which is just about absent on my skin. Longevity is about 4 or 5 hours. Not bad but not what I am after.
bitcedrman0443 – :
Smells like straight-up, but elegant “sweetness” to my nose (not overly sugary sweet as lots of Victoria’s Secret or Juicy Couture fragrances. The sweetness here probably comes from freesia). Even though the vanilla is there and prominent, it is not “warmed up” to me. I could not detect quince, or jasmine, or musk…either, just a little bit of “wood-sy” note in the dry down. Very strange and I don’t know why.
Overall, just to be clear, it is not cloying or annoying. It just does not have enough “depth” or “complexity”. It “floated” and then faded on my skin as “sweet vanilla” skin scent (which I do not mind actually).
MS is still a good and safe fragrance, just not as fantastic as I would hope. It would be ideal to pair this one with something else to create an interesting composition. I ll still grab it for layering, if I find a good deal, as I do like sweet fragrances and vanilla. I can absolutely skip Sexy Rio de Janeiro, Sexy Sunset, as well as Sexy Amber for sure 🙂
travm2410 – :
This was an unexpected love. I had been looking at MS for months, but it wasn’t one that I felt I had to have. I was able to get a bottle in a swap recently and I absolutely love this! Oh, and I HAVE to add how much I love the bottle! It is one of my favorite bottle designs. MS is sexy as hell! If I could have chosen the name for it, I would have called it Midnight Vanilla, not midnight shimmer. It is a woody vanilla that is polished with a slight musk. I think of wearing a creamy vanilla scent while being out in the woods at midnight, sitting in front of a fire when I wear this.
pek210 – :
Well at first blast I was not impressed with this, started off with a (medicinal) alcohol blast, then smelled on me like it was trying to be a Mugler or Poison cousin. But this dried down after about 10 minutes to a lovely vanilla/almond. Even though there is no almond note listed, this comes across on my skin as a soft cozy almond/slightly vanilla scent at times, but mostly almond. I had a brief foray into the gourmand world and tired of gourmands quickly, but this is nice. I would not necessarily classify this as gourmand, but definitely a wink and a nod to the gourmand side of fragrances.
However, while lovely, soft and cozy, this poofs from me in less than half an hour. I thought maybe I was being nose blind, as this wears as quite a soft scent on me (even sprayed rather heavily), so I asked my husband and also a good friend (who is always honest about these things), and neither could smell this on my wrist, either….Bummer. Glad I tested this one before buying. It is lovely, soft and cozy…Absolutely perfect for a chilly and damp night or day (or even Summer..why not!?)…But the fast fading….well, just passing on this one, unfortunately. If this had decent longevity, a bottle definitely would have been coming home with me.
UPDATE: Ended up ordering a bottle of this bc I found a really good deal online. Guess the bottle or something swayed me and drew me in. I do like this..I just wish the longevity was better. But at the really good price I got this for, I am fine to re-spritz. What can I say..? I like the bottle and I love cozy type scents. It is rare that I find a cozy scent that does not ultimately give me a headache (who knew!?), and this one does not do that. So, yay!!
burov35 – :
A better name for this would have been Vanilla Cashmere ❤️
Scancebaire – :
This is the only Michael Kors perfume that I love. It’s also the only heavy-on-vanilla fragrance that I love. This perfume is so incredibly soft and sensuous, it’s like a cashmere sweater on you. There are absolutely no hard edges and you don’t need to be afraid of the wood/moss/musk accords, they are not sharp or heavy at all. The vanilla is perfect, not the edible kind, but the soft, soothing kind. I don’t quite know which accord gets the final compliment, maybe the mysterious peru balsam, or simply the excellent combination of white woods and vanilla, but this is pure heaven for a scent! The fragrance has incredible longevity and projects just beautifully for hours. Even the bottle is gorgeous. Only one scary minus: If I have understood correctly, the production has been discontinued, so it won’t be easy to find in the future… Why on earth (!) did they discontinue this masterpiece?!
marayn – :
This scent opens up with strong vanilla but the result is still fresh because of the quince. The smell of this fruit is hard to describe but it fits very well. Woody, balsamic notes show up after the perfume dries down. Those are sensual but still modern. This scent isn’t too heavy but it does get deeper after a few hours. It’s likable! I have to say I’m in love with the bottle too. There’s no shimmer in the juice itself.
derx – :
I love everything about this scent. It’s such perfection. Very LVEB or Flowerbomb-ish which are two of my very favorites. Deep and delicious. Powerful but creamy sweet. Nothing screechy about it to my nose. Just beautiful floral, woody, spicy creamy holiday scent. The bottle is lovely as well. If you are looking for a fall/winter fragrance and love La Vie Est Belle or Flowerbomb than this is an absolute must have!
terranoe – :
This is very soft. The main thing I gather is amberwood. The first half hour offers me a balsamic vanilla top note.
I am ready to switch to another perfume after an hour of each time I wear this because I cannot smell it unless I press my nose against an area that has been heavily sprayed with MS. I cannot detect it when sprayed on clothing either. I don’t say this about very many perfumes.
I will keep it around until next summer to see if it will come alive on hot summer nights.
galiakberov – :
I’ve been on the hunt for woody, resinous, smoky vanillas, and based on the notes and reviews I thought Midnight Shimmer would fit the bill. Although I can faintly smell the cedar in the deepest parts of the dry down, I really wouldn’t describe this as woody or smoky. The vanilla here is almost fruity – I swear I smell peach. It’s perfectly nice, but if you’re looking for a woody smoky vanilla, this isn’t it.
Stepanfb – :
Sweet, smoky, woody and oriental spicy.
I sense oakmoss, vanilla and woody notes in it.
Not my favorite type of fragrance, but it could be worn. An okay smelling perfume.
I would like a little bit less moss better.
ryuk1 – :
I’ve never before smelled a perfume and thought it was an exact dupe of another perfume, but I got exactly that sense with Michael Kors Midnight Shimmer. As a few reviewers below mentioned, I too thought it was remarkably similar to Le Couvent des Minimes’ Eau des Missions cologne. Both fragrances are smoky vanilla with wonderful projection. The openings are different, with Eau des Missions being more linear and going directly into the smoky vanilla scent, while Midnight Shimmer has a bit of a plasticky opening that dissipates quickly. If you already have Eau des Missions though, I think it’s safe to skip this smoky vanilla iteration by Michael Kors.
lion210 – :
Just tried this one at Kohl’s earlier…definitely a smoky vanilla on my skin. I think I like it!
snovman – :
This is one of my favorite perfumes but I have had trouble locating it in stores. It appears it may have been discontinued or a limited edition. On the bright side, I found a very similar scent at Bath and Body Works called Salted Caramel Apricot. It is in their fall line for 2017. I picked some up as a replacement. Smells both wonderful and is more affordable.
Baron0707 – :
Just tested this in-store, it smells identical to Al Rehab Golden Sand. Nice, but think I’ll just stick to Al Rehab for price and longevity.
сашка – :
this is the ONLY kors fragrance I love and it is limited edition!!!! why is it the fragrances I love always have to be limited edition! shame on you for giving us this and taking it away kors. It is wonderful!
Dickyoptiop – :
No, it doesn’t have golden shimmer in it.
Sherbakoff – :
Flippin’ gorgeous! Another one of those fragrances that I just can’t stop smelling! Like @Kaejuntun I also get that smokey tone on my skin, this reminds me of my love for Black Opium… Divine!
nihasea – :
Midnight Shimmer is a kind of smoky vanilla on my skin… it smells like vanilla and tobacco and I’m not sure why since tobacco is not listed in the notes. Maybe it’s the mix of jasmine and woods? It does smell like Cologne of the Missions to me, but softer. Not bad!
soniboy – :
Yes, I had the love at first sniff moment when I first tested this. I always get excited over those because you love what you love and it’s a simple joy to behold. I had to get it immediately with no expense spared, despite my nagging feeling that it was very similar to Dsquared Want, which I already have and love. It’s a woody vanilla that explodes out creating a comforting halo with impressive lasting power. I get little hints of tart juicy quince and vague white flowers peeking out from the edges of the bombastic vanilla. Maybe that’s what the “shimmer” is about. I get the overall impression of a girl’s night out scent for someone that’s confident, fun and a little flirty. It gathers compliments and people will notice you wearing this. For me, it lasts longer and projects better on clothes than on my skin. For some reason my skin seems to dull the scent down. I love finding new interpretations of vanilla, but If you find it too mainstream or genetic you might want to pass on this.
dark32 – :
Vanilla and woodsy notes with a fleeting hint of Musk .
Coconut is not listed as note , but sure could be
It’s rich and creamy and the dry down is lovely and not a typical MK scent to me.I purchased mine on sale and I really like it but still find it to be overpriced especially that the sillage and longevity are just fair .
muhamedyanowa.alina – :
This might be my top among my favourites. For a tiny bottle, it is very expensive but I could not let it go because I do not often see them in perfume stores! I don’t know if they simply run out of stock or the product is really limited. I bought it anyway and promised I will not buy much perfume anymore. 😛 I could not stop smelling the area where I first sprayed the sample from the store. People complimented me just wearing that sample scent!
Not musky nor flowery. Smells like oil and powder together. Seriously, this is unique and I really love it.
pikressli9 – :
I’ve only ever seen the 50ml and 100ml in store. By the way Aramis group said this is only a temporary line! Which sucks as it’s the best MK flanker in my opinion.
Fisher-Roma – :
Is there a 30 ml version of this? Bc I saw it somewhere and it is not listed in here.
dima2011 – :
Ooooh, really shimmery for sure, and so light, softly sweet-spicy, I concur with others who noticed a fleeting doll plastic whiff upon spraying, but that vanishes and the very pretty sparkly vanilla mix takes over. Yummy and gourmand but tempered with a balance of that spicy note…sorry, I can’t nail down what it is exactly, but it’s playful and feminine.
What a relief to find this whimsical and delicate scent after all the intense fruity, overwhelming fragrances I’ve settled for lately. My vanilla-powder loving sisters will be as delighted as I am. As we all love to say, “I can’t stop smelling my wrists”! On first whiff Midnight Shimmer was in my shopping cart at Kohl’s! And the drydown was even more perfect.
jcy171intitytek – :
I really like this but its really light. I get a very interesting fragrance that is quickly a little musky and powdery. Then I smell the vanilla notes. Again its very interesting and I can not describe all I smell. It reminds me of Vanille Insensee by Atelier yet Atelier has more strength and depth and lasts longer. Midnight Shimmer is like a lighter version that can be worn at bedtime and wont be as over powering.
Gann – :
I just want to say that I agree with Miffy8900…I get that raisin-lipstick undertone! You put into words what I was thinking.
Baron0707 – :
On me, heavy jasmine and medium vanilla and musc. It has some side smell to it which I can’t really pinpoint.. Maybe .. raisins ? It sounds very weird, but fits perfectly to make the fragrance stand out. It also has a luxurious suntan-lotion vibe going on, as in many other Michael Kors fragrances. The drydown is beautiful ”dry” jasmine, which makes me think of old school makeup – the way old rouges, powders and lipsticks used to smell. Different, beautiful, feminine, ladylike. The bottle is so pretty as well. Very well done, Michael Kors <3
RPeegualgala – :
I love the smell. It’s a perfect balance of woods and floral sweet on my skin. It’s nothing ground breaking or exotic. But very wearable, and non offensive. It is different for Michael Kors. Since he usually creates super floral fragrances, that are usually very linear and straight up floral on my skin. At least that’s what my nose percieves from his other perfumes. So this was a surprise to my nose and skin. The woods do not have a pencil shaving smell, and the fressia is not sour sweet. (My skin tends to produce these kinds of smells with woods, or flowers such as freesia or rose) Instead, it’s a very balanced woody, floral, sweet fragrance on my skin. Perfect to my nose, but could be considered boring to others. If you can,try it out! It’s worth a try.
Mewtv326Unlogrere – :
Cedar. A little fruity, just enough sweetness and soft vanilla but mostly lovely lovely cedar.
allure85 – :
I bought this because I couldn’t resist it. Midnight shimmer is a lovely fragrance. It has a rich, thick, boozy vanilla which reminds me of cologne of the missions and rehab golden sand. It is stronger and sweeter than the cologne. It evolves nicely and it gets a bit floral in the middle notes. The jasmine is definitely dominant in the middle phase but it gradually dries down to a soft musky vanilla. Definitely delicious. Gourmand and vanilla lovers should try this.
dimafarat – :
Sugary, sticky vanilla with some more oriental notes. All in all, true challenge to the nose, unfortunately, not in a good way. Very tiresome, heavy scent.
Bottle is a true beauty though.
JeeZy – :
I smell juicy raspberry in this, must be quince, its so mouthwatering.
This is harsh and almost masculine when first sprayed
but let it settle and you will get soft vanilla and woods, with that juicy sweetness and muskiness.
brodyga222 – :
At first, a much lighter TF Tobacco Vanilla, then that smokiness dies down and is very warm and woody, maybe a little incense-like. That might be from the musk. Pleasant, wintery, wish it lasted longer. But it is far more sophisticated than anything MK has put out in a long time.
Empty1234 – :
This is the only michael kors fragrance i love! It is sooooo creamy and musky! Very simple but decadent. Just so expensive, just going to continue to wait ’til it gets online at a lower price.
anollaZidlins – :
I was really not expecting to love this one so much – especially after seeing the name. Midnight Shimmer? It sounded like it was going to be a fruity sugar bomb, but I tried it after looking up the notes and fell immediately in love after it sat on my skin a short while. This is one pretty woody scent – slightly sweet from the vanilla, but that eventually wears off leaving those smokey wood notes going strong, lasting hours later. Kors perfumes rarely work for me, but this one stood out and I haven’t purchased a perfume so quickly after sampling.
poooooooo0l – :
Peach pudding and vanilla! It’s a nice smell, pretty powerful and lasts well but it doesn’t really smell “expensive” if ya know what I mean? It really reminds me of “Taylor” by Taylor Swift. It’s very sweet but that’s no bad thing! It does smell like a celeb fume though…but I like it.
thavoilligo – :
This is an uncomplicated, sweet and slightly alcoholic ‘vanilla extract’ type of scent with some gentle woody notes and minor floral notes which help keep it fluffy and light rather than dark and boozy. As much as I love vanilla notes in perfumes, often they can turn dusty, plasticky, or piercing-sharp on my chemistry, but Midnight Shimmer stays realistic, and quite foody, which I very much enjoy!!! It makes me think of a cross between marshmallows and melted vanilla ice cream. I didn’t detect much in the way of musky notes here, but that could be my chemistry.
Sillage is low, but longevity is impressive, and it plays well with other scents. About four hours in, I became a little bored with how linear it was…it doesn’t transform at all…so I layered a unisex amber scent over the top, and suddenly I was in heaven! This light, unassuming little kitchen vanilla fragrance can really hold its own!! It truly transformed my amber fragrance.
Somehow, I don’t feel that the bottle color or the name Midnight Shimmer matches the composition, but vanilla-based perfumes are known to turn brown over time, so this bottle might help to hide that!!
EDIT: Okay, I do notice a tinge of plasticky sharpness in the top notes, but that disappears within 10 minutes or so, and afterward the scent is very smooth!
абба – :
They say never judge a book by its cover…
I was super excited about this release because the notes look rather seductive and alluring. The fragrance is a sickly sweet vanilla bombshell with woody nuances. It’s extremely linear and bland. Projects quite well but is overpriced for what it is.
mr_l1 – :
I almost bought this today, but I gave it a little time on my skin and I realized I would never reach for this while I have Black Opium in my wardrobe. It smells a LOT like Black Opium. On me, it’s a sheer, less sweet Black Opium with a slight tobacco note replacing the coffee note. The difference between the two scents is barely noticable on my skin…strange. Black Opium is much more full-bodied, with more sillage. When I’m in a must-have-tobacco mood, it’s highly likely I’ll buy this, but right now, it would be a waste.
Матрёна 2 – :
This just didn’t work on me. It smelled gorgeous on the test paper, but after spraying on my skin it developed into a cross between Crest white strips and cat litter. I wish it worked.

cuprump – :
Lovely combo of jasmine, musk, and a woodiness akin to tobacco that balances the musk and tempers the sweetness. Jasmine is there at the top but dominated quickly by vanilla and woods. From there, it settles to a pretty linear trajectory. The notes mention no tobacco. Maybe it’s not there. To me, it is as a very subtle fresh, sweet, unsmoked pipe tobacco.
The fragrance on the whole is sweet. Hints of Juicy Couture’s Gold Couture without the fruity, pineapple backdrop and more sophisticated than GC as a result. (No Juicy bashing here. GC is terrific in its own right.) Midnight Shimmer is super long-lasting on my skin, crazy-long by today’s standards. A ton of bang for your buck. And heck yes to the Kors team for giving us a bottle with a lid that actually snaps tight into place. No dropping this one to the floor if you pick it up by the lid.
I think it’s density and uncomplicated, linear hum will make MS a superb multi-tasker. Wear alone for a sweet, deep woody-vanilla fix or use as an anchoring base for lighter, more effervescent scents. A buyer’s remorse-free purchase for sure. Would love to know the perfumer behind the juice. Enjoyable, attention-grabbing scent.
ko-brusa – :
Just bought it at Ulta!!! It isn’t complex but manages to smell fantastic !!like it
Doesn’t have too much vanilla and it is blended in with some nice florals !! Happy I found it !! It has something special I admit , I usually don’t go for vanilla perfumes but Shimmer is feminine and girlie at the same time , and easy to wear too!! Lovely !! It isn’t isn’t very complex, I don’t detect too many notes outside of vanilla, but in cool weather, I think it will be one to wear!!
My son said hum, something smells like candy!! That gives you an idea!!
senior677 – :
Would not have thought to try it just from the notes, they look pretty boring, but I saw this on an endcap at Ulta and the bottle was very pretty so I thought I’d try it. MMMM this one is lovely. Reminds me of Xerjoff Dama Bianca. Light and sweet, beautiful. Mostly vanilla, but a very light vanilla, and grown up in a fun way. Something in there to keep it interesting, I’m guessing the woody notes. My only neg is that it is very soft, you can barely smell it, even with 3 sprays. May consider buying if they come out with a small bottle.

Launches on the 3rd of July in Manchester perfume stores. Had a chance to smell tester. Amazing scent for those who like sweetness. Have bought Dior Poison girl though, but I’ll def spend some money on midnight shimmer
arm77 – :
This is in the store! It smells good, it’s primarily a woody vanilla, not very strong, close to the body. I like my Cologne of the Missions better, so it was a no buy for me, but I think it will be a crowd pleaser. It has something in common with both Mission and Derek Lam’s Something Wild, but it’s far less of a boutique fragrance, or acquired taste, than either of those, more of a mass market crowd pleaser that replaces cedar and tobacco with simple white flowers.
Broke down and bought a bottle. Of course I did. 😛 Going to mix the two, hoping this one will last longer than my Missions. The initial blast is vanilla, and the last thing you get is vanilla. In between, it’s mostly white flowers with a woody edge to them. Not the biggest fan of cheesy Victoria’s Seret-style bottle and name, but you can’t have everything in life.
I LOVE this scent, but it literally lasts under 20 minutes on me, and it doesn’t project at all. Any suggestions on how to make it last?
Apollosing – :
The bottle is gorgeous and I quite like the notes too I hope my local Douglas store will have it on stock
BADBOY555 – :
I know this is available on his website, but does anyone know when department stores will get this perfume?

WOW! What a beautiful bottle! They just keep getting prettier and prettier by the minute 🙂
Does anyone know if this has golden shimmer when you spray it?
