I waited a loooooong time for this to become available in the US. Now that it can be had for a reasonable price, I have one thing to say:
If you like vanilla, this is your fragrance. It is delicious.

A mix between a boozy scent like Jazz Club and Atelier Vanilla Insensee, or if you can imagine spicebomb extreme minus the spices. All the of the ones listed are relatively high quality but Mercedes Benz Club Black is perhaps more on the upper end of a middle-quality scent. Absolutely a fantastic scent for the price ($70 average) and good projection and longevity. The incense note is not very apparent but refines the vanilla a bit and gives it a bit more character. Great for layering other fall scents. If you’re interested in a fall fragrance with a comfy vanilla base, boozy and tobacco style – this is a great option and one I would recommend you to not overlook – and will only require you to look over the name 🙂

The atomizer on this bottle is awesome. When you first spray it, you get a lot of boozy alcohol, and what appears to smell like citrus.. almost smells feminine. But then after a few minutes, that its a sweet, smoky, incensey, boozy, ambery, smooth vanilla. Loads of vanilla. A little more wax cube smell than gourmand smell. But it’s a darker vanilla that reminds you of cold nights. I get just a little hint of leather too. I know it’s not listed in the notes, I think it’s the incense and ambroxan working together. It’s weird though, because on my left hand I smell vanilla and amber, while on my right hand I smell vanilla and spicy incense. But it is unisex. It’s definitely a warm, luxurious, inviting, lovely scent. When I first sprayed it, it instantly reminded me of something but I can’t think of what… I enjoy this fragrance though and will be wearing it a lot this fall and upcoming winter.
Update: I’ve worn it and it has fantastic performance. 8-10 hours longevity with heavy sillage and projection for 4-6 hours, then gets closer.

Immediately when I smelled this, it reminded me of Guerlain’s Spiritueuse Double Vanille. I added it to the similar smelling fragrances. It’s a rich boozy vanilla scent.

Full disclosure here: I love vanilla in general and seek out men’s vanilla fragrances. When I saw the notes I knew I wanted this. It was a blind buy and I was a bit hesitant but the notes and voted strength of vanilla convinced me this would be a good one for me.
So, how does it smell? Like a strong, intense, somewhat boozy vanilla…BOMB! And I love it for just that. My amateur sniffer doesn’t really smell anything but a smooth, rather boozy vanilla. The ambroxen and benzoin just seem to amplify the vanilla. Opens very sweet and slowly backs off the sweetness as it dries. I’d say it cuts the difference between Perry Ellis’ boozy Black Vanilla Absolute and Molinard’s blue/purple bottle of a bit too sweet Vanille Eau de Parfum. It’s not as boozy or masculine leaning as BVA and not as cupcake sweet or feminine as Molinard. However, it is sweet and even though sweet, gourmand fragrances tone down nicely on my body and work well with my body chemistry, this very well could be too sweet for some guys. If you don’t like vanilla or gourmand scents then this definitely isn’t for you. Perfect for a few vanilla lovers but I could see many not caring for this because, to me, it’s really just vanilla and not everyone likes vanilla. In short, it’s going to be polarizing due to that and because it doesn’t have any “interesting” notes. Just a plain-ish vanilla I happen to really like.
After one wearing of this it has become my second favorite fragrance behind only Black Vanilla Absolute. This vanilla lover’s dream. Unisex? Most definitely.
Update: I’ve worn this a full day and on me this has excellent longevity. 8 hours with an asterisk: gourmand scents tend to last a while on me whereas citrus just disappears on me like water on hot pavement so my rating may be an outlier. Also, all day it bugged me that this reminded me of something else besides BAV and Molinard Vanille. I finally got to looking at my collection and it was so stupidly obvious when I saw it. Givenchy Pi. The same benzoin vanilla type note of Pi is also in this. However this is not Pi. I don’t detect any powdery notes.
Lastly, as much as I love this I do see this getting discontinued in the future so once the new fragrance price drops I’m going to stock up extra bottles. The problem here is it targets such a narrow audience that I see that impacting sales. You need to really love vanilla, not just like it, to want to buy this. Even people that like vanilla my say “This is too much.”. It really should have been marketed as unisex to open up sales to women because I do see women liking this as well.
Sorry if I wrote too much and gave anyone eye fatigue. I tend to do that with scents I like. I realize some may not like this but, man, I do!

The perfumer is not revealed here. Going off of scent character alone, i would not be suprised to learn this is another one for the brand by Alberto Morillas or Olivier Cresp. It smells very nice. A tingy shot of ambroxan that could also be a little black pepper in the top. As it settled into an amber/tonka, i remember thinking Prada LR black. That is what Club Black most closely resembles. Though here there is a more prominent vanilla, and a faint nuance of booze, likely from benzoin or a combination with jasmine. Two sprays to my forearm lasted about five hours the day i tested. Incidentally this is sold out at fragrancenet right now. Very good for what it is.

I recently bought this off the strength of such glowing reviews on fragrantica. I took a chance blind buying it and I must say I’m very disappointed. This is a celebrity vanilla scent. A bath n bodyworks scent. Actually the discontinued Mahogany Woods by Bath N bodyworks is far superior to this Imo if you like vanilla.
I like resinous vanillas. Vanillas that smell dark, dry or sensual. Those words don’t apply to Club Black…U could argue it’s a dark scent but it’s sooo airy and cheap smelling that it’s not my idea of a well done dark scent or even a well done vanilla scent for that matter. I did a first impressions of it for my youtube channel “Simply Put Scents” that I haven’t released it yet but spoiler alert…this scent got the WOMP WOMP…It was one of my more disappointing blind buys in a long time. It’s hard for me to dislike vanillas if they are done with intention and purpose but this vanilla scent doesn’t have the depth, development or quality I appreciate in Vanilla scents I do like. It doesn’t add anything to the world of vanilla fragrances at all…
Please do yourself a favor and try before buying and If u can’t try it out, I’d save my money for vanillas that get it right. This just doesn’t ‘t have the weight it really needed to separate itself from lower tiered vanilla fragrances.

Reminds me a lot of Eau des missions from Le couvents. Vanilla is the main caracter here… More complex than Missions, with more notes but still vanilic.

Well, how accurate is the comparison with Bvlgari Man Black Orient?

Having regular Club, I wanted to get this latest edition as well.
Very disappointed. This is pure vanilla scent (like those car fresheners), quite mild but long lasting. Could be easily women’s or unisex scent. I may get Club extreme version instead.
    Cheers,

You do not need to purchase this if you own any other decent vanilla/amber themed fragrance. You do if you don’t, and you’re after one that’s moderately priced. It smells a bit budget, but lasts very long.
This concludes my no BS review.

I’ve just picked a bottle of this and what a pleasant blind buy surprise it is, wonderful fragrance and price!
This is an amber and vanilla bomb with a slight insence background. It’s not overly complex in it’s make up, but that doesn’t take anything away from it. It’s packs a punch on initial spray, but tones down 30 minutes later. It’s staying power is great!
Cold weather fragrance for sure, with an emphasis on evening wear.
You know for the price (39.95 here in Australia) it’s a great buy!

I own all the others in this line
so i had to buy this one too, and i am glad
i did, this is a beautiful fragrance,
as NX has mentioned below this is a vanilla
bomb, and a long lasting one too, it has
been 10 hours since i sprayed it one time
on my hand and i can still smell it quite
well. The scent reminds me of Eau des Beaux
by loccitane it has that same christmas feeling,
a very warm and cosy fragrance for this time
of the year, i highly recommend it.

I picked up this fragrance over the weekend and all in all honesty had some reservations about making a blind buy. As the store did not have any testers on hand for me to try first. So after my first spray at home, the magic unveiled itself in the form of one of the most alluring smoky amber and vanilla concoctions available anywhere. Some other reviews on other boards had talked about how close MB are now getting to creating fragrances such as this one, which can stand on its own merits alone.
A sheer wonderful experience all told. I believe this scent to be real winner.
Edit 10/29/17 – This scent just keeps getting better and better. On Saturday night, waiting to be seated for dinner , I received 2 compliments in the space of 20 mins on my fragrance. One from the hostess and another from a random stranger who passed by and inquired “Is it you who is wearing the lovely cologne”. Wow, not even with Aventus have I received such glowing compliments in such a short period of time. I now plan on returning on the place I originally purchased this scent to pick up the last 3 or 4 bottles they have on stock. From what I have heard from the store assistant, they are almost sold out and world wide demand is quite high for this fragrance. So, all in all so happy to have 2 x 3.4floz bottles to have in reserve if anything does change with availability. Phew !

Sneaky Bastard, can you please describe it a little? How strong is the incense note?
I love the notes so much, can’t wait to try it!
