Description
Menelik is a niche African luxury fragrance house based in Johannesburg, South Africa. It shares its name with an ancient African king who, according to legend was the son of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. Menelik Fragrances is the designer of Menelik Pour Homme, the “distinctly African” luxury fragrance for men.
Menelik Pour Homme is a sophisticated woody-spicy fragrance for men inspired by the ancient kingdoms, golden deserts, luscious fruits and rare treasures of Africa. One of the few men’s fine fragrances from Africa, it is a seductive statement of modernity made with a high concentration of fine oils from one of the world’s oldest fragrance companies in Grasse, the birthplace of perfume. Refined, earthy and fresh, Menelik is a fragrance that reveals its personality slowly.
Its scent conveys a complex, signature that resonates from the first crisp burst of herb and citrus top notes and then seamlessly unfolds into a warm, intimate heart of basil, tobaccos and rose absolute. It then intensifies into a long lasting, indulgent dry-down of amber, patchouli and luxurious woods and leathers.
Menelik Pour Homme is an exotic yet distinctly masculine olfactory experience. Deep, mysterious and alluring to men and women, its appeal is recognized by both connoisseurs and those just discovering fine fragrances. Its golden essence is bottled in a 100ml glass pyramid flacon and comes presented in a lacquered black and gold crested box.
Lionel Shaw, founder of Menelik brand and the nose behind its scents is a man with an unusual past for a perfumer. A fashion model, business analyst and photographer, Lionel discovered he had a genuine gift for creating fragrances.
In 2012, Lionel created and launched his first fragrance Menelik Pour Homme, his interpretation of an African-inspired, world class scent. Initially available exclusively online, Menelik Pour Homme has quickly attracted perfume enthusiasts and connoisseurs based on its African heritage, unique character and timing.
Lionel’s creative process when designing a fragrance involves deep meditation inspired by the end result of the scent he hopes to convey, followed by the search for the right oils to manifest his olfactory vision. He sources oils for his creations from one of the world’s oldest perfume companies in Grasse, the birthplace of perfume, where they are made by master craftsmen with meticulous care and attention to detail.
