Description

The early exploration writing of Philip Sava bent the limits of post-modern fiction, revealing fantastical worlds that fooled many into believing they were, in fact, real. Sava’s kaleidoscopic collections, of which Memoirs of a Trespasser is the undeniable centerpiece, drew upon true experiences from his exotic travels but were infused with a hallucinatory inventiveness that set his work apart from others in the genre.

Though Sava had associates all over the world, he spent most of his time living in solitude on a ranch in southern Madagascar. When interrogated by the press on his cloistered lifestyle he notoriously answered, “Who needs love when you have cognac?”

Notes: Madagascar Vanilla, Guaiacwood, Myrrh, Benzoin Resin, Ambrette Seeds & Oak Barrels.

Memoirs Of A Trespasser was launched in 2012. The nose behind this fragrance is Josh Meyer.

In the opening i get vanilla with this fresh, kind of “airy” sweetness. in the dry down it dosn’t change much, but it does take on a more tobacco vibe, like vanilla pipe tobacco. On my skin i get decent projection for a good 2 to 3 hours then it dies down. it lasts for about 8 hours on my skin.

Opens very sweet and slightly smoky. There is something sharp that follows after the smoke is gone, which is quite soon and with the sweetness amplifying more and more it starts to get annoying. Then the same theme going until the end, a sharp sweetness.
    4/10

I love this one. I really smell vanilla “oak barrels.” It lasts a long time and I think it is great.

I got a sample, and dabbed a little on my hand, and didn’t really understand it, but then i gave it a full wearing on a cool 40’s degree day, and BINGO!, i now get it, and an looking forward to trying it again to see if i find it FBW. i get mostly a smokey oak sitting on top of a nice vanilla base..

I don’t like this. Sweet vanilla, woods, paper. Perhaps a little bit of smoke. Too sweet for my liking.

I have spent a lot of time in tobacco shops and this smells exactly like a nice burning vanilla pipe tobacco.
    Exactly.
    Pure brilliance here.

First on I get super smoky wood with notes of possible coriander and cedar; Very lovely, with a warm smooth base. The middle stage dries through leather that reminds me way too much of my grandpa’s English Leather, though there’s vetiver in there too to keep it from being and exact match for that august oldy. It’s very masculine with leather and powder at this point, like old style cologne. somehow it reminds me a lot of Avon’s Wild Country, which is the male version of Love’s Baby Soft to me, very VERY powdery. In the end at full dry down, Trespasser is a lovely soft vanilla and wood, like a sweeter version of my all-time favorite Bois d’Armenie. I like it and it’s a great journey, but it’s a touch too sweet at times, a touch too powdery at times and a bit too woody at times for me to want to smell like this myself. Worth a try though!

Very smoky myrrh dominant vanilla based perfume with a bit of a menthol or sandalwoody note that kind of ‘clears’ my nostrils! I notice it every time.
Love this one so much. I way prefer it to Armani Prive Myrrh Imperiale as it has more complexity and is priced better.
I’ve finished my 14ml and just purchased a 50ml from IA website who were kind enough to include a free sample. The bottles aren’t the nicest but the juice makes up for that.
If you enjoy myrrh and deep spicy and smoky fragrances, you’re in for a treat here. Perhaps the best offering from this House too!
EDIT, it’s the CLOVE that clears my nostrils, not menthol or sandalwood! I worked it out! Yes, there’s a welcome clove note. Wish IA would change their bottles. One of the worst presentations I’ve seen sadly and almost made me by the MMM dupe of By the Fireplace which is very similar, only Memoirs has a pine tar note. You also get twice the amount of perfume (100ml) with BTF for around the same $. Still, both are real favourites of mine.

Memoirs opens with a big, sweet, creamy, edible vanilla. Within the hour, there’s some ash, some smoke that makes it less candy floss, and more perfume. There’s something plastic about the vanilla now, and starts to remind me of the smell of those pink erasers from primary school.
Incredibly long-lasting on my skin, well into the next day. I find it quite linear. Unfortunately, it teeters too close to the food side of gourmand, and starts to make me feel a little nauseated.
The only similarity with Shalimar is that they both utilise vanilla. Shalimar is dark, leathery, creamy, smoky, whereas Memoirs is sweet, gourmand, woody, ashy.

  10. :

The overall vibe is similar to MMM By the fireplace – smoky and sweet vanilla, although slightly dusty (ashy?) on occasions. Vanilla here smells like melted vanilla ice cream, quite sweet and slightly creamy.
On my skin it feels quite linear, no real development throughout the (amazing!) 10-11h wear. For my personal taste, the sillage is a bit too much, I can constantly smell the fragrance once I sprayed it on my chest. My other half commented it smells pleasant. I think this perfume gives me an occasional ‘itch in the nose’ and I noticed that happening every day I tested it out. I think I would have liked wearing it outdoors on cold and crisp winter days, however, as most of my time is spent inside, this perfume is a bit too overpowering for my taste.
Glad I only got a sample and didn’t go for a full bottle.

The first ten minutes or so are amazing–a super smoky vanilla. Then it gets very woody and smells a lot like Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensee but without the citrus. I love the story and the idea; I just wish I liked the execution more. It does last, though!

Smells like an old library- not in a bad way. Veeery very woody and dry; very medieval. Very evocative of parchment paper that’s been in storage for about fifteen hundred years. For some odd reason the scent made me think of cobwebs.
I know a lot of folks would be enchanted by Memoirs of a Trespasser and I strongly suggest trying a sample before you commit to a full-sized. To me it’s just not magical enough to justify the steep price-tag (these niche houses are hysterical- the prices they charge for what they’re pushing can be a little outrageous to say the least). Once a fragrance goes past the 150 dollar mark it has to do something other than smell good. Like, you have to teleport me to another world or give me telepathic powers or something.
I’m enjoying my 10ml but won’t be upgrading. But again, I do suggest trying it!

My second review (I’m obsessed with this one)
First of all, I want to thank Imaginary Authors for sensibly offering their perfumes in both sample sizes and great little 14ml travel sprays which are so affordable that I’m looking for my second purchase, perhaps Cape Heartache or the Canary and the Cobra. They both sound very interesting….
Love the marketing approach and presentation .
Makes me want to add another ‘story book’ to my collection.

This is something else. Similar to MMM’s, By The Fireplace but with a hint of either or menthol or a eucalyptus but just a tiny hint.
Whatever it is, warms up my eyes when I apply Memoirs of a Trespasser close to my face (chest) and I adore it, it has all my favourite notes. Great staying power too.

  15. :

    3 out of 5

Unfortunately, this smell exactly like Lomani Intense Black, so that’s what I think of and I find it incredibly hard to smell anything different. So far, Cape Heartache is my winner from this house. But don’t get me wrong, this smells good, it’s just not unique enough for the money.

  16. :

    3 out of 5

This is really nicely done and lasts a long time on my skin. Despite the vanilla, this one is not overly sweet. In fact, I’d say it has a sort of dry dusty vibe. I get the myrrh and resin with the woods and just enough vanilla to smooth it out a bit. There’s also a rather subtle smoky vibe. I enjoy wearing this one in Winter, but I’d have a difficult time wearing it to work. I may just need to use my samples sparingly.

  17. :

    4 out of 5

Lovely… Like a soft Amber Tobacco with dry vanilla and mysterious warmth. Yes, I know tobacco isn’t listed, but the woods seem to conjure that up for me, perhaps in conjunction with smoke?
Completely likable and unisex from my perspective. Complex and interesting without being ‘difficult’. I would LOVE to smell this on a man!
Update – My absolute favorite from Imaginary Authors.
    Smoky Heaven.
    Gorgeous.
Strong, then lingers softly for hours…..

This smells like I’ve opened an old book, how did they do that? A very nice smoky vanilla.

  19. :

    3 out of 5

To me, Memoirs of a Trespasser smells like a musty, dusty, two hundred year old Oxford English Dictionary, stolen from the vestibule of a Basilian monastery, in which the pages were alternately exposed to the humidity of the outdoors and then baked in the intense sunlight radiating through a nearby etched glass window…for decades, and decades and decades.
Atop this weathered two-stone book sat a thurible, broken chunks of raw incense, and a flask of stale communion wine that would occasionally leak onto the text and seep into its pages. Being the thieves were children, they hid this stolen book in their tree house. Occasionally, they would dust-off the cobwebs and peruse the pages inside with fingers laden with chocolate and marshmallow creme from their messy appetite for eating Boyer Mallo Cups.
Trespasser evokes all the aforementioned images in my mind. Moreover, it is a complex scent that is certainly an out-of the-box composition. I rarely get headaches but, for whatever reason, I occasionally develop a headache shortly after applying this one….probably because I have my nose buried against my arm. Projection and Longevity are both solid on my skin. Surprisingly or not so surprisingly, I love Memoirs of a Trespasser…but this one is a definite try before you buy.

One of the most addicting, interesting and beautyful fragrances I’ve ever tried. Good performance on my skin. Its unique, but very versatile in my opinion. I have no problem using it at work, casual or dressed up. It has a dry feeling, like cacao powder. In the opening, its sparkeling and you can smell multiple dimensions of accords. Vanilla is very prominent on a background of wood. The wood to me is a bit like a sauna. Sometimes I get a bit of a camp fire smell, but not in a harsh way. Its probably better described as incense. Absolutely amazing fragrance. Masterpiece.
    Edit:
I like this more and more and more. My tester is empty. Im smelling inside of the empty bottle with abstinences. I need a full bottle of this. Fast! They who say “you can’t buy happiness” have never tried memoir of trespasser.

  21. :

    4 out of 5

Smells like vanilla and incense. Reminiscent of leutens un bois vanille but without the burnt caramel notes. Memoirs of a trespasser is very strong on my skin. The smokiness is just like that found in shalimar and the sweetness is just right and overall simplistic smelling on me.
Update after 2 hours: Smells just like Body fantasies vanilla on me!!

  22. :

    5 out of 5

Tried this today and have to say it is a beautiful fragrance.
Reminds me of sitting round the camp fire with family roasting marshmallows, when one falls in to the fire and gets totally burnt. All through the day its cycled through scents of burnt wood, marshmallow and burnt sugar.
Good projection, not too overpowering. Long lasting. Applied at 9am and can still smell it 10 hours later as a skin scent.
Very tempted to buy a bottle

  23. :

    4 out of 5

Memoirs of a Trespasser is a beautiful concoction and my favourite of the Imaginary Authors line I have tried so far. Rich vanilla, a woody accord from the Guaiac wood and oak, Benzoin and Myrrh adding a smoky sweetness. Again, blended so well none of them stick out but the notes are legible enough to be picked out individually, skillful perfumery.
This does not remind of any one thing, rather a bunch of things. An ancient study filled with antique oak furniture and old books, remains of burnt wood in the fire and an after haze of vanilla flavored pipe smoke or Incense lingering. In short, very comforting. It’s been cold and gloomy the past few days in the middle of the monsoon and this fragrance has really been very enjoyable to wear while drinking hot cups of tea and watching the rain come down from my balcony.
Projection is good, strong arms length and longevity is pretty good as well, easily 8 hours on me. This is definitely a “Buy” for me. If you like frags like Xerjoff’s Lira or Lutens Un Bois Vanille but want something with a bit of a smokier vanilla, do check this out.Recommended. 8.5/10

Imaginary Authors are trolling me, I think. This is the second scent of theirs I’ve smelled which has one half which I LOVE (piney conifers in Cape Heartache, smokiness in this) but which gets elbowed aside by an obnoxious element which I LOATHE – sickening synth strawberry in Cape Heartache, and cloying synth vanilla in this one. I’ve liked other spiced or smoked vanillas in the past so it’s not that the very idea repels me – in fact the concept of a dark and smoky vanilla really appeals. It’s just that the uneasy mix here never really coheres, and the blend just doesn’t click as a whole unified experience.
The smoky open is absolutely gorgeous – I would happily pay for an FB of whatever would make me smell like that all day – but it’s brutally bullied out of the room, and all too soon, by that overbearing vanilla, which is just like fake baking vanilla, for good and bad – with none of the spice or subtlety of the real thing. Why, Mr Meyer, why did you do this?
Longevity is ok at around 5 hours; it doesn’t project much.

MoaT smells, straight up, like Bazooka bubblegum, and that’s it. I really wanted to love Imaginary Authors, but this lacks dimension in a big way.

  26. :

For me, this does not work at all. Icky sweet vanilla with rough burned wood. Very harsh smell.

  27. :

    4 out of 5

Memoirs of a Trespasser opens with a wonderful smoky, woody chord supported by vanilla and resins. To my nose this is a great interpretation of old books or, if you prefer, of reading by the fireplace. I love the interplay between Guaic wood and resins, making the very present vanilla more full-bodied and interesting.
Memoirs of a Trespasser is a warm and friendly, full bottle worthy, scent of slightly tarry coziness.

  28. :

After testing this one out a bit more, I find that I like it more and more. Memoirs Of A Trespasser gives off a lot of vanilla masterfully blended with oak and some sweet resins. This mix is reminiscent to an unburnt vanilla cigarillo. The scent has a sophisticated, mysterious nature to which the name of the fragrance fits perfectly. I love this scent and can see why it is a bestseller in the Imaginary Authors line. It would be a sin to miss this fragrance, do check it out, I wouldn’t doubt you will like this. The adjectives that would fit this scent is; cozy, warm, mysterious, sexy, masculine.

Vanilla is clearly queen and quite a delicious sweet gourmand at that. This is so edible! Then the interesting clay note and that imparts an interesting dry quality with the benzoin almost as strong.
I’ve got to say that these really dominate on my skin. The myrrh, guaiac and oak are present but low key. I am surprised at how low key the guaiac wood is on me. For me this fragrance gets better past 30 mins. The sweetness eases off a bit and the resins and wood notes come through alot more me.
A lovely fragrance to wear on a chilly day as otherwise the sweetness would be too much.
    Moderate silage and longevity.

Wow. My first IA perfume and I really rate it. Lovely lovely lovely.
This is a beautiful vanilla. It’s smoky, sweet and has a delicious sherbet-y fizz to it, although it remains silky smooth.
I am a gourmand fan, although picky about vanilla that can be overdone and a little too sweet to wear for extended periods. Whilst this is a sweet perfume, it is countered by the wood notes – you know, that lovely hot/charred/smoked burning wood – that keeps the vanilla in check.
I want to say that, whilst it’s not much like Le Labo’s Patchouli 24, it does share that birch tar note that keeps a fine balance and prevents the perfume from smelling like fake vanilla.
I love this. It’s definitely a try before you buy though as I think it would divide opinion given it’s a little different (which I personally like – a lot).

Hm, yikes, I don’t like this one. There’s a similar note that runs between this one and Cape Heartache. A foggy, thick, slightly sweet kind of smell. This scent is essentially Cape Heartache without the synthetic strawberry note. I don’t necessarily get the imagery of old books when I smell this (and I love the smell of an old book). I get that foggy sweetness and a slight note of woodiness. Nothing more. It’s a very linear scent to me and lasts a decent amount of time, but to me it’s not necessarily enjoyable. I’ll have to pass on this one.

What a beautiful, smoky vanilla! Someone below said it reminds them of an old bookstore or library and it surely does! I get compliments every time I wear it; it’s a very comforting scent and I hope to wear it to my trip to Ireland especially to the beautiful Trinity College library!

Going through a guaiac-phase, and Tresspasser wins the jackpot! I’m the sort who’ll ruminate for weeks and months over the purchase of drugstore cosmetics, comparison-shopping and over-thinking to the extreme. Not the case here. One spray, love at first sniff, immediate purchase at Tigerlily Perfumery.
Base notes last the longest. These big molecules stick around after the citruses and florals have long blown off. With vanilla-guaiac-benzoin, the lasting power is off the charts. I sprayed it on today, and I’m pretty certain it’ll still be going strong by the next presidential election. This is basically a perfume composed entirely of base notes.
If you liked any of the following, Trespasser will speak to you too: MMM’s By the Fireplace, Olympic Orchids Woodcut, La Curie’s Incendo. Smoky-sweet wood coziness at its best.

Smoked marshmallows, no, charred marshmallows. Really woody smoke and sticky sweet. Sort of reminds me of Mariah Carey M but this one is much nicer to me.

I recently acquired IA perfume samples and, after trying them, found that Cape Heartache and Memoirs of a Trespasser are my favorite.
I found M. of a T. a bit too dry at first, but the vanilla soon comes in and makes the scent warmer, rounder and never cloyingly sweet. It is a warmer scent, more “serious”, less carefree than Cape Heartache. It doesn’t smell like a wood plank though, thank God! I also like the subtle smokiness, and the fact that there is no musk or amber (I rather dislike those notes), which makes the perfume smell clean and “no frills”. I would wear this fragrance at night and in Autumn/Winter. It is not a chic smell, but a comforting smell, an everyday smell that blends with your own. I reckon it may work to layer this fragrance with Cape Heartache… This frag is also unisex enough (more so than Cape Heartache) that I could share it with my husband.

In a nutshell: cotton candy and myrrh, long-lasting.
This starts with a burst of caramelized candy-floss, thick and syrupy, with some vanillic nuances and some bright aromatics around the edges. Myrrh is present from the beginning. The syrupy aspect gradually subsides over the next couple of hours, although the sweet candy-floss note remains noticeable for much longer than that. This has gotta be a big slug o’ ethyl maltol. It might be pleasant for others, but for me it is cloying.
Next, myrrh’s bright aroma becomes the real focus of attention for a number of hours. Occasionally, I actually do get whiffs of a dry and chalky clay note. Also I feel like there is a bit of geranium in here, although it is not listed.
Oddly, I don’t detect any woods at all. Zilch, zero, nada. By the end of the day, all I can detect is a faint and pleasant, moderately sweet vanilla.
Projects strongly for perhaps 90 minutes. Fades to a skin scent gradually over the course of 6-8 hours. Lingers all day. Excellent longevity.

Love from the first look! Well, snif! My favorite Imaginary Authors creation.
When I analyze this scent I can clearly detect each and every listed ingredient. But if I would be asked what it smell like I would without hesitation say dried plums stored in an old cognac barrel. I’m pretty sure that was exactly what Josh Meyer trespassed on!
    My verdict:
    Scent 9.5 of 10
    Originality 9.5 of 10
    Longevity 8 of 10
    Sillage 8 of 10
    Projection 9 of 10
Price for quality 8 of 10
    Overall 9 of 10

Smoky, resins, wood… very characteristic perfume creates a warm atmosphere. It smells like old,old libraries, burnt caramel,resin..is a succession of evolution…. The opening is strong, vanilla predominates slowly evolve the other notes that create something extraordinary. Myrrh here plays an important role, he feels but does not cover, and makes it more mysterious. The sillage is great and longevity (+ 8h) on me. In my opinion this is a masterpiece! Great Josh.
    Sillage: 8.5./10
    Longevity: 9./10
    Scent: 9.5/10
    Overall: 9.5/10

  39. :

    3 out of 5

This is a sweet, gourmandish vanilla accord that is lightly woody and smoky, and decidedly feminine (despite the lack of florals). It is not heavy like TV, and mercifully avoids the Yankee Candle-ish, spicy mishmash I get in other vanilla-benzoin concoctions. This really is an enjoyable and addictive fragrance, the best I’ve smelled in a category I typically dislike.
It is fairly linear, but the sweetness subsides a touch as it dries down, and the light smokiness emerges. I suppose men can rock it, but I picture this on a woman. 9.5/10 for the ladies or guys with a sweet tooth.

I love this fragrance! There I got it out if the way, but I always end up debating if this or Cape Heartache are my favorite from Imaginary Authors. The thing I think I like about both of them is the piney note they share, I never thought I would appreciate pine at a note in perfume. Memoirs of a Tresspasser is a dry vanilla, piney, and somehow fruity dream. It smells like a late summer hike in the woods, Even though no fruit is listed in the notes it almost has a raspberry or blueberry or slight strawberry note to it. I’m not sure if it’s the combination of the residents together they give it that slightly sweet fruity note but whatever it is it really brings out the depth in the pine. Don’t be fooled though by the vanilla no that’s listed, this isn’t some saccharine sweet vanilla that you smell and a lot of modern perfumes, it’s a very dry in a lot of the lens itself to mix well with woods. Definitely try before you buy, imaginary authors has a great sample set that I would recommend picking up.

This is how I would have liked Coromandel to smell. I’m not a Vanilla gal, but this is is something very different from anything else: the perfect woody smoky no gourmand vanilla. It smells natural mingled with mostly guaiac wood and benzoin. Sillage and projection above average. Kudos to Josh Meyer for creating such a masterpiece. For me this is the Holy grail of Vanilla fragrances, totally bottleworthy. 10/10

Wow what was this? I loved it. I’d read all the reviews and thought this was most like what Ouch! described. It takes you directly to summer camp and you’re at the campfire surrounded by lots of woods. It smelled more like a summer camp for boys though so I felt like I had sneaked into the boy’s camp which I used to do anyways. This is a fragrance for those of us who enjoy the olfactory experience of being transported to another time and place, including within our own memories. This totally took me back to summer camp. There is a lot of woods so this frag takes you into the forest. The woodsy scents of guaiacum wood and oak is pretty strong. It does not smell like wood furniture or wooden cabins. It’s pretty graphic tree bark. I could almost touch those trees. The Madagascar vanilla is unusual but it’s what is most responsible for this fragrance being so enjoyable otherwise it would just be pure woods and nothing special. This is a dark vanilla, caffeinated vanilla that you’re drinking while at that campfire. It’s smoky and burning with fiery notes of myrrh benzoin and incense. The resinous notes also create a balsamic very smoky quality to this fragrance. I don’t know what it’s supposed to evoke so I made up a story to go with it. I think this smells like a stranger who has sneaked into a boy’s summer camp. He is up to no good and he’s waiting for that fire to die out so that he commit his crimes probably murder. The smoky intensity of the woods and vanilla make it a very unique and very aromatic scent unlike any I have in my vast collection. It’s very strong so I spritz it in the air as room spray so that I can be reminded of summer camp nights right in the comfort of my own house. Smells even better if you spray it next to the fire place in the dead of winter. It’s a winter fragrance for warmth. It really does take me to camp but it’s sa nightmare camp. That trespasser isn’t there to teach the kids how to make a quilt. Maybe I watched too much of those Sleepaway Camp horror movies lol

I suppose this is the first vanilla based scent that I really can say I enjoy enough to own. Trespasser is very much in the same family as things like Le Labos vanille 44 and Guerlain’s Spiritual double. Between the three I like this one the most. I absolutely love the amount of woods here. That balance is just perfect! And the opening is one of the best in the business – very boozy with a healthy dose of incense/resins.
A very nice scent overall. Definitely unisex, perhaps even leaning slightly on the masculine side. Oh, and yes – projecting longevity is out of bounds. Ridiculous

  45. :

Whoa colour me shocked. First of all you cannot take away from this fragrance house the brilliant concepts, the daring compositions and their ability to create something new.
This opens with a odour that smells like smoked vanilla, medicinal resinous myrrh and a dry rough texture.
It’s a massive juxtaposed collection of notes that sway me back on forth between, is this brilliant? or passing my threshold for the need of something different.
The vanilla keeps you interested as it’s familiar but the guaiac wood throws is campfire smokiness in your face too. Add to that a weird medicinal peppery resin and you have the recipe for something truly bizarre, and not exactly pleasant.
Once the oak kicks in it smells even more unwearable, but, the vanilla is what keeps your mind set on thinking…yes…there IS something nice here. What a breath of fresh air in the world of so many pretty fragrances.
The vanilla is ever present but never overshadowed by the dramatic mix of bonfire smoke, medicinal myrrh and rough tree bark.
Not the swan…more like the ugly duckling. This stuff has some power and longevity, you just need to decide if you want this to last on you or not!

very oaky, smoky opening which settles into a sweeter smokiness and then the vanilla comes out

I get a big lump of vanillic bubblegum all smushed up with a big lump of tarry guaiac wood and resinous, almost sweaty myrrh. It’s a bit sweet, a bit sour, a bit interesting, but it seems almost a bit clumsy. Not FBW to me, and I don’t think I’d like to smell like this. I would, however, like to smell it from time to time. 8 Hour longevity, Sits close to the skin.

Ok -here I go, my first-ever attempt at a fragrance review on here. Received a sample of this today, and as I love fragrances that develop over time to have multiple acts, I respect this fragrance as a beautifully constructed one. The vanilla stars in Act 1- and though I like vanilla, here I’m not a big fan. But my 12-year-old son sniffed it and immediately said “oh Yum -vanilla! awesome!” But after about an hour it does move on to Act 2- set around a smoking campfire- probably beingeld inside an abandoned church – where frankincense and myrrh are seeping in to the mix. There is an interview with Keith Richards in this month’s Rolling Stone magazine, where one of his friends is quoted as saying “he always smells like a campfire,” so I’m wondering if this may be Keith’s signature scent. This is not going to be one for me- though it is very special and lovely and I completely get
why it would have many loyal fans!

I have a sample of this fragrance, and I am holding back from buying it. Trying to have some discipline here when it comes to this fragrance hobby. Very difficult to be honest.

A smoky, resinous fragrance with great lasting power and projection.
Initial application is slightly sweetened by vanilla. The woods and resins quickly show up, smoothing over the vanilla. Reviews claiming that this resembles church aren’t wrong – incense-y and smoky. The guaiac wood myrrh are clearly detectable and are extremely pleasant.
Smoky and oak-y come to mind once it settles. I can detect the scent that I have only ever picked up in oak furniture stores. Very pleasant. The smokiness that follows the initial sweetness makes MoaT very much unisex, in my opinion.
Performance is excellent but, as with many resinous or woody scents, it can be easy to over-apply.
Wonderful fragrance for the cooler months forthcoming!

A very “basic” or normal smelling vanilla with light resins and woods. It is very pleasant, but I have smelled this in cheap body sprays. I do not think it is worth the price, unless perhaps it is going to be your signature; even then, it’s iffy. It smells good, but not unique; there are better, more exciting vanilla frags out there.

So I received this as a sample, and though I’ve only worn it on my wrist in the house, I love it. Not so sure that I need a full bottle at the moment, but I can definitely see myself eventually owning one.

Update to previous review: Putting this on this morning, I kept thinking I was reminded of something else I have. Then I realized this smells just like Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille, only richer, deeper and creamier. YUM!

I’m loving this! Memoirs of a Trespasser is a powerfully sweet but grown up vanilla for serious gourmand lovers. Not candy sweet like Pink Sugar, La Vie best Belle and the like, but a resin-y, woody, smoky sweet that grabs the senses and never lets go. It only takes a few minutes to reach the dry down phase, which I love, of oak and myrrh. This is a magical scent straight out of A Midsummer Night’s Dream befitting the Queen, or King, of Fairies. I am so glad to add this to my wardrobe!

I’d seen this popping up all over the place and getting a good write up. Also I dig the kinda artisan look of the bottles and the cut n paste artwork on the label.
Anyway the scents themselves have been a bit of a disappointment so far but loaded with imagination and creativity. What puts me off is the hippy, dirtyish base they seem to possess, that’s three of them now with what I describe as the ‘sugar paper’ note, very woody and with a hint of patchouli dirt and deep resin, seems to be a theme in Cobra/Canary and City on fire.
This is undoubtedly my favourite of the ones I’ve tried so far though.
This should be a big favourite with me judging by the notes
This juice has an uncompromising tar like guaiac wood dominance which is evident immediately. I kinda don’t like the opening… I got a dark chocolate with jelly sweets vibe when first sprayed the kind of polar opposite juxtaposition which instantly reminds me of some 4160 Tuesdays creations. I think the vanilla is playing tricks in the opening sweetening up the resin in an other wise smokey and uber woody affair.
