“Matsu is ‘[pine] tree’ in Japanese but can also mean ‘wait’ (which seems so right for me just now). It is meant to evoke the sensation of being in a forest and smelling and feeling the air around you—all green and crisp and refreshing. The main notes are bergamot, sandalwood and a pretty big dose of iso e super. (This is the first scent that I have really used the iso e super to dominate). There is also cedarwood, and leafy green notes along with a green sap accord. I feel it does something with the Japanese aesthetic—simple but deep at the same time—and natural feeling (even though it’s mixed media).”—Dawn Spencer Hurwitz
