This is my third favorite women’s fragrance from Avon’s Mark line. I bought it brand new right after it came out, and have always found it interesting to sniff, but as I don’t like to wear it often I have about a third of it left. This is one of the warmest scents I own, and one of the fragrances I have that are best for autumn. The ginger and rice are very prevalent to me and produce a really warm, ambery/creamy impression. It reminds me of my small town childhood where all of us neighborhood kids would play in each other’s yards in the late fall, fun games like kick the can, then get spiced cider, roasted pumpkin seeds and other fragrant snacks from whatever neighborhood mother was feeling generous. So not what I’d call a sexy perfume at all, but comforting and autumnal, definitely.

The note that is supposed to be rice is creamy sweet. I smell the amber and faint floral. Different. Not bad but am always reaching past it for another scent.
    One spray on me
    Sillage: close to skin
Longevity: about 1 to 2 hours
    Rating: 2/5

This is a lovely fragrance, but it is nearly all orange blossom to my nose. In fact, it is quite similar to the clementine-jasmine combination of Cinema, and the blood orange-floral of Stella Tocca. Cinema is more of a marmalade (intense, almost bittter orange), while Stella Tocca is a pleasant, light orange with lovely, breezy florals. Sophistique reminds me distinctly of Stella Tocca. I wish I got the rice note, ginger and lotus blossom. The amber I do smell a little as it dries down.
This is enjoyable and different, but not as unique or multifaceted as I had hoped. I have a sample from a friend, but I’m not too disapointed that I missed this before it got discontinued.

I blind-bought this scent, based on the notes and reviews but alas, it did not live up to my expectations. It smelt sharp and synthetic at the very first spray. Knowing not to judge on the very first spray, I waited, and while this does settle down to become a bit softer and rounder, that synthetic note just did not go away.
I do smell ginger and rice. Amber is less evident to my nose, at least amber as I like it – warm and golden – does not come through to me in this fragrance. I have my Avon favorites but this just is not one of them.

Sophistique opens with a bracing cascade of florals (I’ll assume it’s the lotus?) but blissfully, beautifully, it settles down almost immediately into a gorgeous blend of amber, orange blossom and ginger. “Fresh Spicy” is a very accurate accord, and while I do enjoy fragrances with tea and clove scents, Sophistique is refreshingly different in the absence of them. It manages to have both a freshness and a comforting warmth. A very beautiful fragrance!

The scent really lives up to its name, its sophisticated & unique! I havent smelled anything like this before.
Insane lasting power for an eau de toilette,6+ hrs, sillage is arms length within first 3 hrs after which its close to the skin,i feel like a bought a high end product.
This is my first mark fragrance and im definitely going to try the other ones!

I adore this!!! I usually stick with the sweet or vanilla scents. This one has none of that in it and its my favorite perfume that I own. It last about 6 hours on me and I got a lot of compliments when I wore it.
This is the first Mark perfume I tried and if Avon is gonna be dumb and discontinued it they better get one that is twice as good in its place.

i really i don’t know mark perfumes by avon, because here in greece don’t exist.avon doesn’t launch them in my country. and other perfumes like mesmerise, imary, haiku, candid, miranda so i don’t know how they smell. i would like to have samples of them.

Such a lovely perfume. Smells expensive and warm, yet breezy and clean at the same time. It reminds me ever so slightly of Coty Sand & Sable, but it’s much more sophisticated. Staying power is 6+ hours on my skin, and it floats within arm’s length during that time. I still catch whiffs of it many hours after spraying, without putting wrist to nose.
Edited to add: I had to come back and say that this has become one of my favorites altogether. I LOVE it. The orange flower is so creamy and lush, and it smells so fresh and pretty. My daughter hugged me yesterday and said “mmmmm you smell good. Like soap, really really nice smelling soap.” 🙂 And it is extremely long-lasting. I sprayed my wrist once, my shirt once, and my neck once yesterday at 8:30am and I could still smell it on my wrist that night at dinner, and catch whiffs of it when I changed position while working on some things at my desk that evening!

Another Avon/Mark marvel. For those of you who want to try a more “out-doorsy” (is that a word?) scent but do not want to tango with woods and mosses and so on… this is what you want. I just found and ordered another bottle, knowing that when my current bottle is gone, I’ll go into grieving.
Very few perfumes live up to their name (literally) or come close. Sophistique is a rare and uncomplicated blend that settles the senses. Mark is a fool for yanking it. He also yanked “Earth” – another idiotic move as it was the best botanical blend I’ve ever found. Luckily I stocked up before it too was tossed to the winds.
Being an aroma (therapy) junkie, it just blows my mind how rare gems are tossed aside. But there are bottles and body cream to be had but I wouldn’t lolligag about it and anyone who is really irked over it’s termination, goto avon/mark and complain. They have been known to bring something back.
But enough complaining.. onto the fragrance: first off it is difficult to differentiate between the 5 elements. I think the basmati ties them all together.
It smells as though the lotus & orange blossom are clinging to the amber and the ginger gives it a subtle splash of spice, then all is bound together with the botanical/aquatic like element of basmati.
The scent is a journey (for each, their own) through a botanical garden with lush flowered greens, mini orange/lotus groves and a pond, right smack in the center where more greens and roots are grown in and about the water. A fantasy, if you will but take the step, because once there, you’ll never wish to leave.

I honestly don’t like this perfume on it’s own.
the lasting power is like none, it dissapears in like an hour at the longest. i find its much better to combine this with something.
I combine it with avon rare pearls.
on me the orange and ginger in this perfume stand out waaay too much. so i tone it down with something like rare pearls that is floral and musky so i dont get so much of that sour scent.

This scent smells so classy but it’s inoffensive at the same time….I could see myself wearing this for a job interview, work, on a date…nice scent!
Avon should keep this scent around instead of discounting it 🙁 I bought this for $12 at the avon store near me and I don’t regret it!
EDIT 5/24/2012: I’m bored of this scent now 🙁 Thinking about selling it.

I am no perfume snob, but have found that most Avon/Mark scents last perhaps an hour on me, at best. Mark sophistique is the only fragrance that I’ve found lasts and actually develops as you wear it. I adore the notes and the fragrance itself. It has just become discontinued by Avon, so buy it up asap as E-Bay will be one of the few places to purchase it. Once word gets out that it’s no longer available from your friendly Avon later, the prices will soar! Grab a bottle while you can!! It’s definitely worth having several IMO.

So i picked up my order today from my local avon centre and i was soo excited to finally receive this perfume! I first opened up the shimmering body lotion and smelt it and thought wow this smells fresh yet very warm and inviting.
First glance of the perfume bottle – very cute, original and classy bottle unlike some others (particularly the imari collection).
First spritz of the juice – I immediately picked up the basmati rice which had a slightly spicy and woody smell which died down in a matter of minutes and mixed in with notes of lotus and ginger to create a fresh, floral escapade.
Two hours after first spritz – The amber is very predominant (ofcourse) and what remains of the previous notes are the african orange flower and that combination of lotus and ginger.
Overall, i think this is a very unique perfume that manages to be soft and fresh but still warm and creamy and SLIGHTLY spicy. Unlike anything i’m sure i will ever have in my collection of perfumes.
It’s the perfect date night perfume! Very captivating fragrance!
4 out of 5 stars for me!
N.B. in terms of originality i will definately give this one a 5 out of 5!

Sophistique is one of those fragrances that really caught my attention, first with its listed notes and then by the way it smelled. Of all the scents released by “mark.” (Avon’s sister company for younger ladies), this is perhaps the closest they ever came to a unisex perfume. I bought a full bottle, but my sister loved it so it went to her (along with a very satiny body creme). I loved it, but it “worked” much better on her.
Just the other day, I happened to spy in the “Going, going…gone” section of the magalog (their brochure) that the 5 ml travel spray (“scents on the go”) was being discontinued, so I bought two for the price of one! 🙂
sophistique (sophisticated in French, I believe) is a wonderfully warm and soft floral scent built around the lotus flower and another aquatic plant: basmati rice. The lotus is powdery and cool, and the rice offers a bit of “starchiness” to the whole thing; that makes it seem like you were just bathed, powdered are ready to snuggle under the covers for a wonderful sleep. How something can be so cool yet warm, and clean, is utterly fascinating to me. In the heart (as it were) orange blossoms add a touch of floral citricity and elegance. While deep underneath it all, a glowing and very smooth golden amber exudes a feeling of comfort and stability. Ginger is listed here, though in the PR (from mark.) it says “ginger wood”. It has a fresh spiciness not unlike ginger, yet seems a bit more dry and woody so; yes…ginger wood it is! For a “straight” floral scent, this is exceedingly well-rounded: having touches of the oriental, a bit of subtle spiciness and sheer woody nuances over an interesting floral aquatic while hinting at an almost yummy “foody” feel, with just a hint of sweetness and sheer delights…
    Sillage: good yet subtle
    Longevity: very good
    Overall: 3.5/5
Sophisticated, indeed! This perfume has little bits of almost everything in it, not unlike someone who has traveled the world and “been there” yet remained unassuming and become better for these experiences. One who does not brag about them; so much as share them with lovely remembrances and quiet dignity. sophistique speaks softly, but clearly. It is one of those scents that “works” really well with just about any setting or occasion.

Wore this to the park this evening and I’m not the only one that smelled pure patchouli. No one detected another note at all. This might not be what your looking for but I love it! Patchouli is a favorite of mine. We did some heavy sniffing and testing! Why do we get patchouli when it’s not even a note in this? I’m going to test seriuously during the colder months.

I ordered this from reviews alone. I’m not sure what to think…I’ll wait till winter to see if this comes alive. I don’t really get anything like what reviews are saying. It’s not BAD…it’s very similar to a scent Mark had for Avon a few years back called…Bohista…toned down a bit more, but still about the same smell to me. I’m keeping an open mind. I know weather can play a HUGE part in a fragrance along with detergent, soap, etc….This is to say the least, interesting so far. hmmmmmm…..

I was always a bit of s snob about perfumes. If it didn’t have the price tag then it didn’t get a look in with me. However, after quite a few disappointing experiences with new high-end fragrances, I’ve decided to explore low-end scents and broaden my perfume horizons.
I read about Sophistique on this site and ordered it through eBay, as we Australians don’t have Mark here. I loved the look of the bottle, but thought the juice was not really my thing.
Silly me! Time and again I’ve found myself reaching for this perfume in the mornings and sniffing my wrist throughout the day. It smells like a touch of vanilla, some honey, a bit of amber and that rice note is in there as well. One of my work colleagues said that she thought it was like spices and soap. Either way, it comforts me in an odd way.
It’s winter here at the moment and this fragrance is the olfactory equivalent of getting home after a cold day, putting on a comfortable sweater and having some honey on hot toast with a vanilla candle burning in the background.

I so love Sophistique! It’s a very “rich” smelling scent, makes me feel great whenever I wear it. I love most Mark perfumes as they all seem to have the same type of scent, but Sophistique is the best…and the price is right, too!

Sophistique had me at first glance. I loved the look of it and the name, and just couldn’t wait to try it. I absolutely love the fragrance, although wish it was a bit stronger! I love anything with ginger and lotus flower. This is blended beautifully but like I said, real subdued, so I will be probably wearing this up very quickly.

i like this scent. it is very girly, very oriental in my opinion! I got it because Lauren Conrad was the spokesperson of it, and was not let down! Mark did a fantastic job with this!

Quite unique; the soft, ever so slightly sweet rice note pipes up while the ginger remains in the background. The florals are extremelely subdued..as someone else mentioned here this seems to be a relaxing, meditative scent. Wears soft and close to the skin, not loud or cloying in any way.

I tried this and it does have a nice soft scent and not too spicy. It does seem to have a musk scent to it which is not my thing. A little bit of vintage Jovan Musk in there with the rice. It seemed similar to Estee Lauder Sensuous in smell.
