Description

Love’s Baby Soft is a gentle, powdery and light fragrance, launched in 1974 with a provocative and controversial ad “Because innocent is sexier than you think”. It is described as clean, baby-smell, which is still sufficiently “mature” to be sexy. It contains notes of geranium, jasmine, rose, lavender, patchouli, vanilla and musk, among others.

Available as 30 and 50 ml Cologne spray.

The nose behind this fragrance is Ron Winnegrad.

To me this smells like baby powder, like I imagine an 80’s baby smelled like.

Floral, baby powder-bomb. Absolutely offensive. A family member and I were both gifted this as preteens, and we both hated it. We wanted to smell like popular, high-school-age girls, but this made us smell like freshly cleaned baby butt.

Just as others here have said, ’tis high time for an EDT relaunch in a modern bottle that does not look like a vibrator. Well, you said it more politely.
More going on than you would expect, and it smells far better than a baby. I wish some other perfume companies would take up this blend and run with it for the wide appeal it would have for GenXers. I don’t like rose, so if it is here, it is well-blended. It is hard for me to pick out too many notes except for the musk and fresh flowers on top AND the PlayDoh at the end which is a strange note in fragrance that intoxicates me. Anyone else get this??? And can you recommend other fragrances that have it?
Nothing like it really. Maybe Isle by Skylar has a bit of the powder freshness.
I am always after a dupe oil for this. I have the lotion and wish so much for something stronger than a cologne, which I think was made at one point in a tiny heart-shaped bottle.

A very special and memorable scent for me, as a child of the ’80s. At that time it was manufactured by Mem Corp and it was GREAT. Lavendery, powdery and clean-musky with a hint of strawberries. Basically Johnson’s pink baby lotion made into a cologne. Perfect!
Sadly, even the more recent, badly watered-down Dana version is no longer for sale. The scent seems to be entirely discontinued, so I stocked up on 5 vintage (Mem brand) bottles on eBay because I LOVE IT THAT MUCH.
If you can get past the creepy vintage ads and the diaper-change connotation, and just take this fragrance on its own merits, it really is for all genders and all ages. Anyone who wants to smell clean, soft, and heavenly.

I like this scent, but it’s not one of my favorites. It smells exactly like a baby. Powdery, soft, a bit floral, and kind of sweet. It’s a very young scent. I personally wouldn’t wear this past the age of 20.

got .5 oz on sale! i’m so excited to finally have this. i’ve been eyeing it for months.
really soft! smells just like baby powder. i love the smell of baby powder and use baby oil just for the smell. i’ve often wished i could find it in a perfume version! this is it.

It’s hard not to love Loves Baby soft. Another successful blind buy, so affordable and very delightful to wear. In a review below a man describes this as smelling like naughty baby powder and I would have to agree. My partner loves the smell of this on me, he gets very cuddly and affectionate. I smell geraniums, something sweet like honey and musk mostly. I picked up a super cheap gift set with shower gel and body lotion, it’s only $8.95 at shoppes now. I had never noticed it before this Christmas season so did some quick investigation on here and was intrigued. I can see way this has stood the test of time, there is truth to the very provocative (and totally inappropriate) ad, Innocent is sexier than you think.

This was my first perfume, and I still wear it, for so many reasons. Mostly for sentimental reasons. The smell of it takes me back in time, when life was simpler and innocent. When I’m feeling down, or I’m having an “I can’t adult today” day, I spray it on and it feels comforting in the best way, like wearing your favorite bath robe while sipping hot cocoa. And, I can also say that this is one of the most unoffensive perfumes I have ever smelled. It’s so light, you could spray it on your pillowcases and bed sheets if you like, without giving you a headache.

This was my first perfume in 6th grade in the 80s. It brings me right back to the days when Rubik’s cubes, scratch and sniff stickers, Bonne Bell Ten-O-Six, Jordache jeans, Dimension shampoo, lips smackers, etc were all popular, and MTV had recently come on the scene.
I have both the vintage Mem and more recent Dana versions, and the Mem is richer and more complex. A blend of florals, powder, musk. This is listed as being similar to Heaven Scent and Avon Sweet Honesty, but I think they were all different and had their own separate scents and character. The vintage Mem Love’s Baby Soft can still be found for a decent price on EBay, I recommend that one (the Dana version smells cheaper and more powdery). I’ll always have a bottle of this around for the nostalgia factor. Brings me right back to a happy, innocent time.

This is my second set of remarks pertaining to this classic icon.
If this same exact fragrance were repackaged and re-marketed, the price could be significantly higher and this beauty would find a lot more love from those who can’t get over the ugly bottle and/or low price-point.

Last Saturday I went to the flea market looking for Mugler’s Alien. Sadly the Alien was gone but I found in a dusty box a phantom. My first love. An original bottle of Love Baby Soft. My very first love affair with perfume. Smelling it, is a travel in time when I was 14. If I love perfume today it’s because I once smelled Love Baby Soft in 1977…

I reviewed this before, but I’d like to reinerate just how nice this composition is at night after a shower/bath and relaxing afterwards. Especially after a long day. The lavender is so soothing really helps me sleep at night. I just feel the tightness I had in my muscles just melt away and my mind becomes at ease. Brings back that old feeling of a time gone by when I hadn’t a worry in the world. Sometimes it’s good to bring back that kid again to stay young.
Ive worn this on the weekends and for a body spray, it’s lasts a good amount of time 3-4 hours. After the rose and lavender fades, the powderiness goes away and the vanilla and musk is what is left on my skin. It really it is quite nice. Smells like a sweet smelling skin scent. Like you naturally smell this good. I realize that I’m a person that just wears certain musks very well. For this reason, this is something I’d like to keep in my collection.

I have liked this since the late seventies. It is just
pretty, soft, powdery scent. Lasts long. Still well liked by several generations and priced at a value.

Super powdery clean. Costs next to nothing; I spray mine in the hot water when I’m taking a bath. Kind of a creepy “sexy baby” scent, which is (disturbingly) what they were going for when they made this. I don’t know why this scent is appealing, but it is. Would never wear this as a body scent, but it’s a fun, bizarre perfume to spray on pajamas and pillows, or in the bath or shower.

  15. :

    3 out of 5

I really wanted to like this perfume but it seems as though it gives me a headache which is strange because it’s a soft and subtle fragrance.
When I first spray this, I get a very harsh chemical/alcohol smell but that quickly dissipates. I’m sorry, but what I mostly get is a plastic and powdery note (unfortunately in a not so good day) which is why I think it gives me a headache. I can definitely pick up on the floral aspects but they’re so drowned out by that plastic note. I’m sure many people have loved and continue to love this scent but I just can’t rally behind it.

I just love Love’s Baby Soft, and always have, since I was a child and started receiving the little sets as presents (birthday, Christmas, etc). This pretty, soft and powdery scent has never been cost-prohibitive and that, in addition to it’s universal appeal and wear-ability, keep at least one bottle of this classic gem in my own collection, even on the shelf among the likes of Jean Patou and (gasp! the humanity) Guerlain.
    Because LBS is that good.
I can’t wear everything (as I have migraines and life-long asthma) but Love’s is one of those that I can gratefully enjoy.
The composition is brilliant in it’s light, powdery simplicity. I feel like it’s a must-have for every perfume wardrobe, even if it’s only there to represent the era, olfactory group, etc. Love’s Baby Soft – much to the snobbish, inexplicable chagrin of others – is an icon and, hopefully, here to stay.
In addition to simply wearing or using liberally to scent the world around you, LBS can sweeten up other perfumes which open up too harshly, etc.

Baby powder, soft brushed cotton sheets, Johnson’s shampoo, a hint of rose. It’s very soft and pleasant. It’s lasted a good 5+ hours on me in the pouring rain and still going. Sillage is light-moderate. Simple in a good way. I don’t have any of the nostalgic associations though – I’m a little disappointed it doesn’t smell more like my grandpa’s talc powder like powder-scented deodorants do and like I was hoping it would. I’m glad it’s out there for others to wear and enjoy. I appreciate it in passing.

I love it. I don’t care that it’s the quintessential “first fragrance” for many Gen Xrs and Millennials, all these years later its rosebud shampoo mixed with lavender bath sweetness, followed by a slightly clove and citronella-esque powder, still appeals to me. This is almost a total ringer for the old Joubert “Blue Waltz” with a little, less powder and oiliness but both have that simple, satisfying sort of sweetness that smells primped and clean every time you apply it and remains so throughout the day.
It even has a salty, mineral tone to it that reminds me of old, rose bath cubes my grandmother had when I was a kid, which is sort of a lost smell in the bath and body products world today. You might find a couple of long running bath products that have been popular for decades but bath cubes are now mostly a thing of the past except for the occasional novelty. To put it inelegantly, people just take showers now, they soak their hair rather than keep it out of water until seeing the hairdresser once a week.
In 2017, I feel it doesn’t have an exclusive “baby products” vibe mainly because baby brands have sort of moved on from the rose-jasmine-violet powder intensity of the past towards more fruit, chamomile and other field flower blends in demand today (as, thankfully, the advertisement world has moved on from those incredibly creepy ads from the 70’s, which might win for the top creepiest perfume ads of all time. I hope people were keeping a close eye on the guy who designed those.)
Overall, “Baby Soft” is pretty timeless if you’re looking for a simple, very feminine and bath clean blend that goes on soft and sweet with romanticized roses and jasmine and dries down to a creamy, salt and sandalwood powder.

I only bought one bottle of this because baby powder was never that appealing to me, but I was curious and every other girl wore it. My fascination with Baby Soft didn’t last long, and I was hell bent on acquiring more “grown up” scents.

I bought the body spray for nostalgia reasons. lol It’s not as “powdery” as I recall. Seems more floral and I was slightly disappointed. I find the original Avon’s skin so soft more powdery and nostalgic. But Baby Soft is still a good scent and I will still use it. 🙂

  22. :

I definitely think that Fragrantica has the scent labeled in a misleading way, because in no way is this spicy! Soft musky baby powder. I use it before bed, on my kid, and on my sheets. I like it but it’s more of a body spray perfume to wear when I don’t want to wear perfume. A good cheap nostalgia buy but not a “frangrance”, per se.

  23. :

I don’t like it. I got through half my bottle and just want to spray around the house to get rid of it. I remember my youth when it was in the stores and some of my peers talking about it. It didn’t fancy me, something cheap and plasticy just chemicals, nothing floral about it. So now I decided to buy it since I saw how people were raving about the old love’s baby soft. All I can do is turn my nose at it. Not for me, there were much better cheap perfumes at that time that young girls liked like Avon Sweet Honesty and Sophia Loren’s perfume and Jontue. Why didn’t that come back?

Brings back my childhood. This was my first perfume. I got it in the 2nd grade. When I grew up and had a child of my own, I bought her a bottle. She was 9, and it was Christmas time. I think it’s an angelic, innocent scent. Soft, powdery, and floral. It’s a sweet classic. Now, as a Mimi, I plan on getting my grand daughter a bottle. Will have to wait a few years, she’s only 3! Xox

As a mature woman in my 40’s, I must be waxing nostalgic lately, because I purchased a small bottle of Love’s Baby Soft for myself this Christmas and I’ve been wearing it every day. I love Love’s!
Unlike the Demeter Baby Powder, I find Love’s much easier on the nose, without the sharp top note and “burn” of the alcohol when sprayed and a little less of the actual baby powder scent.
The scent is light and subtle on me. A good daily basic I find.

So strange how this combination of notes creates baby powder. it is soft, sweet and comforting. And powdery lol I am not often in the mood to smell like baby butt but when I am… baby soft will be there. all kidding aside, I bought this because it is very nostalgic for me, reminding me that this was one of my very first perfumes that I received in a holiday gift set along with fresh lemon, soft jasmine and rain scent, when I was about 12 in the 90’s.

Although literally every girl friend I ever had (up until college, anyway) wore this at one time or another, the overwhelming powder factor turns me off. I just…can’t relate to a scent that seems like it belongs in a child’s nursery, not on the skin of a woman.

I always love powdery fragrance and Baby Soft is one of my absolutely favorite.♡♡♡
BS is not just an ordinary baby powder scent. There are sexiness, sensuous and a little “I’m a bombshell” feeling behind its innocent smell. Just remember “Innocent is sexier than you think”. Lol
You can wear it in many different occasions because it is very casual and gentle. Everyone will easily love it.
The longevity and sillage are so good. It has good quality compare to its price. Nothing else to ask more form it. 😉

This is the pink baby powder I wore in middle school. Back then, if you weren’t wearing Baby Soft you just weren’t cool. For a lot of us,this was our first perfume. It’s like we all hit 12 and were immediately inducted into this giggling, primping, sashaying cloud of fluffy pink-hued quasi-womanhood.
It’s amazing to me that this stuff is still being made, and worn. I have to say though, that it’s a good intro to fragrance for very young girls. It’s super-soft, unobtrusive, and unabashedly innocent. No sex-pot, come-hither hoochie notes; just sweet little girl powder-puffs.
One whiff of this in a store and I’m back in 6th grade carrying my first purse, which naturally held such grown-up items as a Goody hairbrush, some Tic Tacs, and a couple tubes of Bonnie Bell flavored lip balm. Good times.

I love this!!! I can see why it has been around for so long. It is perfect for most days. It is a baby soft scent without being baby powder.
And it doesn’t smell of plastic at all. It is a very comforting scent. I have as of late discovered some real beauties in the “drug store”. This one is just perfect! One or two sprays and you are good as it can be powerful if over sprayed! This is the body spray too! I mean what a wonderful find!

This is a fragrance I wore as a pre-teen! I can’t believe it’s possible for one to buy this fragrance in 2016! Soft powdery floral perfume was my bag when I was ages 11 12 and 13. This was a fragrance that I kept in my collection along with Coty’s L’Effleur. Beautiful perfumed baby powder but that’s not a bad thing. I still wear this from time to time. It’s a feel-good nostalgic and cozy fragrance to wear to bed. It’s as comfortable as a pair of pajamas. It brings back memories of slumber parties.
The geranium, rose and lavender floral notes are each detectable and they mix and mingle with powdery notes. I love the rose in this scent. It’s also a very nice vanilla scent. The whole thing doesn’t last too long but it can be applied over and over again, and fits in your purse. A casual soft scent, inoffensive, subtle and affordable. I tried to get my daughter into this fragrance and bought it for her when she was 11 but she didn’t care for it and I think she might have sold it to some other kid. My daughter wants to be a business woman LOL
    Love Soft!

How bizarre….I never tried this as a teen, though I know it was the first for many girls. Just got it, and there’s nothing innocent or baby-like about it to me. In fact, in reminds me of vintage Halston.
I know I’m defo in the minority here, but to me, this is straight-up sex in a bottle. Very enticing, very grown-up scent for a woman who is getting ready for physical love with her partner.
Strange, huh? But that’s what I love about different frags, they never are the same to 2 different noses!

This perfume is so nostalgic to me! As much as the campaign tried to sex it up if you will for me it’s my innosence my first perfume at 10 years old! I used to spray it on my baby dolls and on myself thinking it was such a beautiful powdery baby smell! A hint of florals make it beautiful and delicate oh how I loved this! Now I’m sending my nieces some 8 and 2 yrs old! I hope to create awesome memories for them as well!

This is a good intro to powdery florals for young girls. It’s not sexy nor provocative. It’s a 1970’s Dana perfume that my father bought for me as a birthday present when I was about 8 years old. It was considered an adult fragrance but it was so powdery so floral-sweet and delicate that it smelled like baby powder so it was appropriate for children as well. The bottle is so cute with the pink lid resembles a feminine deodorant. The perfume itself can be described as powdery, sweet and floral. I could smell the rose and vanilla, as powder. This is a baby rosebud. There’s also geranium which smells like a rose, and a distinct lavender but it’s sweet and not spicy or pastoral/outdoorsy lavender. It’s more like a light violet or lilac. The scent also contains some musk toward the dry down but it’s the powdered form of musk. Everything about it is dreamy soft and feminine. It can remind you of soft powdery florals like L’air Du Temps by Nina Ricci or Arpege by Lanvin. I think it’s good for a few hours after a shower. It’s also good for spraying it in your bedroom – the bed, the pillows, to help you relax and go to sleep. It was a favorite of mine as a kid. I was pleased to rediscover it and to learn that it was still selling and has never been discontinued. I wear this mostly for myself and nostalgia and to wear it as a casual morning scent. It matches up with that woman’s Dove deodorant spray with the pink bottle and the peach scent. In fact the peach scent brings out the florals which lack fruit. It’s one lovely perfume for girls who like to be girls.

Yes, I am wearing Love’s Baby Soft right this moment as I write this review. I was struck by what the previous reviewer said about spraying on pillows. I remember spraying Love’s Baby Soft on the pillows, the sheets, in fact all over my dorm room in college when I happened to invite a boyfriend over to my room who just happened to be a smoker. I was staying in a non-smoking room on a non-smoking floor. What a great memory! I still spray Love’s Baby Soft on my bed for many reasons. I spray it on myself and wear the lotion. To me, it does not smell plastic or otherwise. It is comforting and sweet; but not like Pink Sugar. Pink Sugar is candy sweet. Love’s Baby Soft is Baby Powder Sweet. I guess two different aspects of Innocence. I do have Pink Sugar and have worn it; but I think I choose the Love’s Baby Soft Version of Innocence. I have promised myself to finally “cut out” the “perfume blind and not so blind attempts” and concentrate on these two of my very favorites; Love’s Baby Soft and L’Air du Temps by Nina Ricci. Both are classics in their own way. Both are comforting, pretty, cute and “go well” with both my chemistry and personality. Not even Avon’s Sweet Honesty smells as good as these two fragrances. Please, does, anyone know what I can do with all these perfumes I no longer care to wear or “should” wear?” Any Ideas? Thank you. And all of you, please keep up your great “noses” in action and review.

LBS is lovely to spray on pillows at bedtime and then wake up to in the morning. Comforting, positive, as well as refreshing (wore it to the gym), subtle but present enough to enhance one’s mood.

Ahhh, how could I not review Love’s Baby Soft, the first perfume I remember asking for and receiving (as a Christmas gift when I was about 11).
Sure, it smells a bit like baby powder, which Johnson’s admitted to creating with lavender and rose but will say nothing else.
And just this past winter I bought another really little bottle to layer with the aforementioned Johnson’s products. But the best thing about LBS now is that it’s not something just anybody wears. It’s no longer marketed toward the pre-teen nor even teen, nor even toward us 40-somethings, nostalgically recalling our first all-mine scents.
All this said, perhaps the best way to wear LBS is over rose absolute essential oil that had been gently dropped into bathwater just before bed on a cold winter night and then spritzed on in the morning for a reminder or warmth and rest.

  41. :

If you like this, you’ll love Posset’s The Scent of Angels. It’s like LBS’s older sister.

  42. :

Why yes, I know I’m crazy! I still love to wear this to bed. It’s the lavender that calms and soothes me. Not to mention, the scent brings back memories of a simpler time as a child. I just forget all my troubles and big girl responsibilities and go peacefully to sleep. Tomorrow is another day.
The scent has changed some. There is a plastic smell, but it lasts for only a few minutes as it warms on my skin. Lavender is definitely present and it is powdery. Then, it gets deeper. I’m thinking it might be the rose doing that along with the vanilla. The powderiness seems to go away as it heads into the dry down. Then it’s a slightly sweet muskiness that lingers.
All in all, still a good scent for me that I love having in my wardrobe.

I never had this as a young girl, and I felt a bit silly buying is as a woman my age (37) but what the heck, I wanted to try it. Seems like something nice for after the bath. I can’t believe that powder isn’t one of the noted as it’s very powdery. There is more powder than musk going on for me. The rose and lavender are nice and that’s what makes it an after bath bedtime scent for me.

Like many here, this was my first fragrance as a pre-teen back in the late 70’s/early 80’s. Since fragrance is a powerful stimulant, just smelling this scent when I come across it on occasion brings back a lot of memories. The scent has changed a bit from the time I wore it, but it is still very recognizable. I don’t think I’d wear it today, and I don’t think my daughter would be interested in it either, it seems teens today want the real stuff, not a marketed for them brand. But it was pleasant, soft, powdery and a bit of nostalgia. My favorite was Love’s Musky Jasmine. 🙂

  46. :

Love’s Baby Soft costs 3 USD for a 20 mL, I bought a pack of two for 6 USD in Walmart when I first started collecting perfume as a hobby just because it was cheap. I know better than to do that kind of thing now, but I finished both bottles anyway surprisingly.
I don’t really recommend this, it usually smells like baby powder and plastic. I used it for outdoor activities in hot weather like going to the amusement park in the summer or the beach. The reason I like LBS for those occasions is that when warmed by the sun, this perfume blooms on the skin into a sexy warm musky scent. It smells like cosmetics, specifically face cream or lotion only with big projection.
So to summarize, it smells good only in hot weather which is okay because going to the beach or an amusement park it’s cheap and easy to carry not a big deal if it’s lost or broken.

Like many children born in the 70s, this was my very first perfume. It’s pretty much just a classic baby powder scent with a hint of flower. I loved it as a little girl. Today not so much. I think it’s a fine fragrance for a little girl. I’m going to gift it to my niece this Christmas to carry the tradition on.

Did someone else make this loves baby soft because it seems they did and I believe I had it. I smelled it the other day in the drugstore and although it still has the same sorta vibe it seems different than 70’s and 80’s lb. This frag is such a touchstone for me. I remember thinking I was really something wearing this to elementary school. I used to bring my bottle to school and spray my friends and me in the bathroom and then return to the class walk past a certain boy and giggle.

So disappointed when I received this in a deodorant roll-on shape plastic bottle. Yes plastic………
Strong smell of vinegar on first application, where’s the fish n chips?
Once it dries down it’s sweet musk and reminds me of my babies.
    Smells just like baby powder.
    Shame about the plastic.

This was my first Perfume. I haven’t smelt it in ages, but I never noticed until now what creepy adverts they had! I remember it smelling exactly like baby powder so safe for a young girl. It was popular in my elementary school in the 80s. Lol

I had the opportunity to smell this at Sears today and it smelled exactly how I imagined it would (based on all of your reviews here on Fragrantica) The words I would use are a very bright pink baby powder scent, sugary rose vanilla, but more floral, not really gourmand. There was almost a cotton candyish vibe to it but the floral version of cotton candy, if that makes any sense at all. I would put this in the same family as Pink Sugar, or the sweeter offerings from places like Bath & Body Works but it does have a simpler, back-to-the-basics air to it because it was made in the 70’s, though I’m pretty sure what I smelled whas the reformulation.
Anyway, I wish I was 12 again so that I could enjoy this the way it was meant to, but as someone who isn’t a teen anymore, I still like this for cute and casual times.

A chilly, industrial musk with a convincing rose-vanilla-lavender baby powder smell. I love straight baby powder scents, and this is an effective one. Nothing particularly exciting about it but if you’re going for a powdery-clean effect, this’ll do as well as any of the megabucks Italian ones.

After seeing the creepy “innocence is sexier than you think ads” with the 20 year old girl slowly licking the lollipop, I thought I’d sniff it for shots and grins in CVS. Once I smelled it I immediately starting laughing thinking “since when was the smell of a baby nursery sexy?” Plain ol’ twisted if you ask me.

The smell of baby dolls and My Little Ponies.
Very girly, powdery, and reminiscent of childhood. Pretty, comforting, soft. It doesn’t go into baby diaper territory, thankfully. Good for a girl’s first perfume or for a quick spritz of comfort.

Initial blast of plastic, quickly settling into powdery candy sweet, almost candied violets. There is absolutely no “baby fresh scent” in this product anymore. It has just enough freshness to get by a “no perfumes allowed atmosphere” at work as it really does not have a great sillage, nor last very long.
However, I won’t be buying it again, as the plasticky waft comes and goes. More intensely when the air is warmer. Not my style, and I definitely wouldn’t wear this on a date or on outings. This is purely work wear material.
The finish: akin to the scent of close to the skin powdered playdough…..wait, *sniff* is that papermache;??
If you’re a Kindergarten teacher, the kids will absolutely adore you…..lol

I reviewed the Dana versions of Love’s Baby Soft but I got my hands on some older versions so I thought I would write a new review comparing them since there seems to be some confusion!
First of all, the “original” LBS was made by Menley & James in 1975 as part of their “Love’s” product line. They made many other fragrances and beauty products. Menley & James versions are probably the hardest to find today, and because M&J focused on such a broad product line you’re just as likely to find a body powder or lotion as you are a cologne mist.
In 1980 Chattem took over “Love’s” and made Love’s Baby Soft the focus of their product line, targeting preteen girls. The Chattem version was the most popular.
In 1985 or 1986, Mem took over Love’s products and made them until at least the early 90s. Not sure exactly when Mem stopped making them but Mem’s version is still easy to find online today, and for pretty cheap so I would say if you want to try a vintage LBS, go for Mem.
Dana took control of the brand just recently, I believe in 2008. They changed the formula more so than Chattem and Mem, who made few if any changes. They also discontinued some of the other frangrances such as Loves Baby Soft Musk (great scent!), Love’s Rain Scent, and Love’s Musky Jasmin. They introduced some new frangrances which are listed on this site.
I have a Menley & James Body Powder, a cologne splash and body mist from Mem, and a cologne mist and body spray from Dana. The M&J body powder smells exactly like the Mem fragrances, so Mem must have followed Chattem’s example and stuck to the original formula. Dana not so much. Comparing the Mem body mist to the Dana body mist it’s obvious the Mem version is more fragrant and layered. The Dana body mist is more spicy than the Mem version, more synthetic and less powdery. It seems to me Dana has tried to modernize the formula by removing the musky notes (they’ve taken a very anti-musk stance and removed it from all their Love’s fragrances, most notably Musky Jasmin which they renamed Soft Jasmine. I think it’s a shame personally because the musk notes add such an interesting depth to Love’s fragrances.)
I’d say if you’re really interested in LBS for more than a noveltly buy, go for the Mem version. It’s very easy to find online and quite cheap. Despite the bottles being over 20 years old, they still smell just fine (although I can only speak from my experience). That being said the Dana version is good too, and despite the differences listed the overall impression both scents leave is the same, they both give off that “sexy innocence” vibe. 😉 In stores the Dana versions go for pretty cheap (some people have seen them at dollar stores!). I buy them during christmas time when my local drug store carries them for five dollars. If you chose to buy Dana online just be careful to check the size, the standard size is only .69 oz so make sure you aren’t
