The thing I love about Jeanne Arthes fragrances (apart from the sometimes ridiculous bottles!) is that they’re affordable and so far, pretty lovely. I wore Love Never Dies Black Jewel to death for the beautiful jasmine after I ran out of Bvlgari’s Jasmine Noir. Not saying Black Jewel is a dupe, but I still loved it.
I do agree with some that the longevity of this fragrance was not fantastic, but for the price I was able to reapply during the day without worrying about wasting an expensive bottle.

Strong jasmine, very white flowery and little hint of honey. I use for formal event

I was pleasantly shocked at how strong and powerful of a scent this is compared to the other Jeanne Arthes scent I own. It is strong, vibrant, and smells very much like a high end dupe for E.S.
I sprayed three sprays on my shirt/chest before leaving for the airport at 4:00 am. At 3:00 pm, my husband could still smell the scent on my person (and my skin eats scent)!
It is soft and sexy but bold and intense at the same time. The honey oozes from the middle notes like a slow southern drawl and stays strong on me for the entire journey of the scent. I detect the white florals in the opening and don’t personally experience the patchouli until the “end”. It is wonderful and I will be wearing this a LOT this winter. I’m not sure why, but I feel like this would be a great scent to layer over La Vie Est Belle.
In summary, this perfume just makes me feel like such a pretty woman when I am wearing it.
    Thank you!

Well, this is my third frag from Jeanne Arthes, and it did not disappoint, either. So far, am am 3 for 3 with this brand; I’ve been enjoying all 3 that I ordered. Thanks to the fragranticans who recommended this brand on one of the threads (cheapie but reliable brands thread, I think it was called..?). Anyway, on to the frag review..!
This to me is a little bit soapy, a little unisex at times (okay, straight-up a little masculine at times..the metro sexual type vibe, maybe..?), and definitely a little bit of vintage scent pulls through. There is a definite warmth. This reminds me of an 80’s frag, but not the powerhouse 80’s frags. I definitely see a ‘trend’ with these Jeanne Arthes frags, at least the ones I have tried, all a bit leaning towards 80’s types of scents, but very charming.
The bottle reminds me of Chopard’s Wish; which, incidentally, Chopard Wish is listed here on fragrantica as being similar to another Jeanne Arthes frag, “Seduction”.
To me, this almost smells like it could be a CD Poison flanker or even a TM Alien flanker, but I see no similarity between this and any Elie Saab, but..I respect that viewpoint, as well.
This is not a heavy-hitter fragrance, it is quite soft; it is little more than stronger than a skin scent. Will be lovely in particular for the upcoming cooler months, but this is not heavy at all, so I could see this being a year-round frag, as well. But the warm note will be especially nice in the cool months. I will say, this one is not so great with longevity…This is completely gone after about 3 hours, not even the faintest of skin scent, but totally poofed.
That is a pity with these Jeanne Arthes frag’s, or the ones I have tried, anyway; they are all lovely scents, but disappear completely from the skin for me after about a couple of hours.

Full of orange blossom and honey, i notice dry cedar too and the jasmine and mandarin combine to create an almost bubblegum smell.
It reminds me a lot of elie saab intense, but at the same time it also reminds me of JPG Classique.
Its very elegant, classy, sweet and has great sillage and longevity.
If you are a fan of orange blossom i strongly suggest this.

Beautiful fragrance! Just beautiful. Too bad the longevity was really poor on me. I love my powerhouses and this one just wouldn’t stick around on my skin. I traded it to a friend.

This is beautiful! A sweet, woody patchouli that smells a bit dark, but still effervescent. I get the astringent medicinal vibe, but that’s something I appreciate in perfume. Longevity isn’t so great, but it smells sooo good that it’s still more than worth the price… I have no idea how this house can create such expensive smelling scents and sell them for so little. Yet another winner from Jeanne Arthes.

The scent is rampant with honey and flowers, the bottle is gorgeous, and the price is right. What more could you ask for?

Received today in a beautiful box from the lovely Angelicax1!!!! It was a generous gift indeed in with the swaps we had agreed on! She’s awesome! This beautiful bottle houses a lovely perfume initial spray I get a bitter orange note that’s quickly accompanied by a jasmin note and a hint of patchouli I would say top notes seem very unisex…. A while after I get the incense? and a bit of cedar note too both notes shine on my skin! It could be the lovely fall day that’s helping this one along or my chemistry I find it sophisticated and yet uncomplicated I’m simply loving it! The orange blossom note is mixed very well with a hint of honey so nice! I like it

Blind buy. Only read reviews from people and ofc the notes description. This is to me smells like wood and intense! insense that old chinese custom use for praying. Every time i try to inhale this parfume smell my nostrils just automatically close lol. I can not really notice any other scent. Almost no silage (have to 3-5cm close). Longetivity unknown as i am just using it as i write this. Love the bottle though.

On me, it had very poor longevity (up to 40 min max) with very soft sillage (starts as a soft skin scent). What I did smell was a harsh orange flower, no honey or anything else. Have Elie Saab (in fact was thinking of using this as a mean of saving on Elie Saab) and this is nothing alike.

A lot like Elie Saab but with more orange than honey. The honey note is not as strong as it is in Elie Saab which is a very distinct honey scent. This has citrus in spades. I thought it smelled really sweet and very nice and more of a lighter version of Elie Saab. The jasmine and orange blossom are in harmony and the patchouli is not acting up and in fact it’s only a slight aromatic touch. I can smell the wood note. This is a really nice dupe for Elie Saab and more affordable if you’re on a budget but I would still prefer Elie Saab. I love the design of the bottle and the black color. It doesn’t smell mysterious or Oriental. It’s just a decent citrus-white floral. I wore this last week and I was taken by surprise when a gay couple walking in Little Cuba in Miami smelled it on me as I waited in line at a café. “Love Never Dies Black Jewel?” one of the guys asked me. “Yes!” I said. We high fived each other lol

This was a lovely floral that wasn’t too sharp. I enjoy an orange blossom note, but the first thing that hit me was what smelled like a grape-candy-tuberose–not extreme, but present. I was surprised to see it not listed; it could have been the jasmine, but it didn’t have the same flair. It blended into and transitioned into the orange blossom, which was a sweet floral with a hint of zestyness. This became a sweet, musky fragrance as it dried down; it retained the floral citrus quality and became mellow and somewhat subdued. 6+ hour longevity, solid sillage. Good stuff.

    A great feminine fragrance.
Lemon opening. Then flowery unfolding ….
Finally permanently settle down in a sweet, woody base ….
My wife bought a webshop, because in my country
not available in drug stores ….. great buy!
Excellent price / performance ratio! Perhaps the more senior target group …
My wife reminds him, according to the head Guerlain Samsara perfume on.
We are happy to be obtained and this is a great experience for the perfume.
The glass is very awareness-raising, but not mushy at all
Nice is in line with the juice in it ……
    Excellent gift!

I’ve never smelled Elie Saab, but I really like this one. At first spray: hello grape soda. But then I started thinking, grape soda doesn’t really smell/taste like grapes, actually. So what am I smelling? Closer inspection revealed yes, it is the lemon and orange, but not the bright, realistic citrus you might expect; instead a sweetened version, like lemon and orange candy. Eventually that calmed down into the strong duo of orange blossom and honey that so many others have noted. At that point, I was in love, and kind of wanted to eat myself. Just when I thought I was going to escape the clutches of those olfactory party-crashers, cedar and patchouli, they showed themselves, but thankfully the orange blossom remains dominant, keeping those basenotes in their proper place – the background – although they threaten, making this an interesting juxtaposition between impossibly sweet and innocent and, well, not. I can safely say this smells like nothing else I own, and pretty amazing quality/strength for the $12 I paid. Thumbs up! This is a strong one – can’t see it being an everyday perfume, but an interesting journey for the nose every once in a while.

On me this is mainly musk, with rose & jasmine petals, patchouli & a touch of lavender, on a bed of sweet honey.
Reminds me mainly of the Narciso Rodriguez (original) EDT, but this is less sharp, sweeter, more talcy & powdery, with some subtle shades of the 2014 white bottled Narciso EDP.
Having never tried Elie Saab, I can’t make a comparison there, but I believe this to be a much cheaper, gentler, sweeter version of Narciso Rodriguez EDT, with far softer silage, sitting rather close quite quickly and with less lasting power – approx four hours.
A bargain at £7.99 (in the UK).

Because it didn’t cost much at all, I bought this one online…I thought it would smell darker, but it is very flowery. I agree with Morgana1975 below and probably give it to my mother….

Bought this after reading reviews on this site stating that it’s simmilar to Le Parfum from Saab. I’m a bit dissapointed. Wore it yesterday for the first time. Starts out very sharp. At least for my sore nose. Today my cold was a bit better and the opening was less sharp for the second try. I like the dry-down better than the opening. The top-notes are way to heavy, sweet and sharp for me. That lasts an hour or two. Then it softens and starts to ressemble Saab a little. But not enough to buy it again. It makes me feel like an old lady, older than my 38 years. 🙂 I’ll safe it for colder weather. Maybe I’ll like it better then.

Too bad my nose doesn’t get along well with the top note of this scent. I couldn’t even tell what it is but it smells soapy (not in a good way), chemical and very scratchy to me and though it gets a bit better over time it keeps biting me. That’s sad because the base is a mellow dream of honey and patch shameless making love – deep, soft and alluring. Nothing you would expect from a cheapo like this.
I noticed that after about 2 hours the scratchy stuff lingers close to skin while I get quite lovely wafts from a distance to my arm. I think if your chemistry works better with the top you get a fantastic (and long lasting) scent that is smooth and sexy – but with claws. I might give it another try, or two.

Yet another blind buy for me…….wow! After spraying it on my wrist to try it out, I immediately imagined spraying my sheets, blankets and pillows with it and wallowing around in this heavenly scent! It is absolutely delicious :o)

Omg Love Never Dies Black Jewel is absolutely amazing. Just receive this beautiful black bottle with the cute heart charm, the price is unbelievable, so cheap for 60ml EDP.I can say jasmine, orange blossom and honey are really stand out. It quite similar to Elie Saab Le Parfum but i think sweeter and fresher. Definitely repurchase when my bottle runs out. It smells divine, very damn good! You will regret if you don’t buy it.

(7:15pm)The opening is a bit rough, too much lemon I think and LOTS of orange blossom/jasmine (but I’m not super fond of citruses or jasmine so, I’m biased). Will give it a bit.
(7:55pm) the spiciness of cedar has come forward quite a bit on me. Now a blend of jasmine/neroli/cedar are by far the most dominant smells, w/ a wallop of lemon/mandarine to balance it. I have to say it is a bit bar-soap like. My bf said ‘it’s nice, but it does smell cheap’. And by that he means it smells like soap/shampoo from past experience. Will report back.

This smells very similar to PG03 Cuir Venenum by Parfumerie Generale. Nice price, really cool bottle. It is very pretty. I could see myself wearing this if it were a warm day, driving with the top down in a Ford Mustang or a GTO. Tom Petty blasting from the speakers. It has a very relaxing effect on me. A good combination of citrus, sweet/honey and a bit of patchouli. Could see paying more for this, but luckily there’s no need to.

I sprayed this on 15 minutes ago and I just reek of jasmine soap. I will amend soon, I hope. I bought this for the honey and citrus 🙂
2/24/14…sprayed it on to give it another try and it smells like Noxzema on me. Gah. I tried to wash it off, and nothing. I had to put Red Door over it to mask. I don’t think I can leave the house now.

Yesterday I had still some free time, it was very cold outside, so I entered a cosmetics store to warm myself without any other purpose. Of course I couldn’t just stand there, so I did some sniffing. I remembered having red many positive reviews about this scent, so I sprayed some on a test strip.
A warm, hugging, elegant, quite dark and mysterious mixture of orange and patchouli with some tiny, golden, transparent honey drops added. I was surprised how well the jasmine blends in this composition, how well and how carefully this composition was made.
I think the main idea about a good chypre is to find the best balance between the feminine and the masculine world, to incorporate them both in one and to make them complete each other. Here it is brilliantly done!
Today I couldn’t help buying it and I’m very happy about it!
Update: The drydown is so incredibly beautiful on my skin- a bit of jasmine from Alien by Mugler, a bit of exquisite praline sweetness, a bit of strong, sensual sandalwood which has the magic power to put me in the mood for love. What a scent!

Despite the name “black jewel”, this is an amazing perfume for both day and night! This is the best blind buy I’ve ever made. Good blend of lemon, cedar, and honey. Sillage and lasting power are the best of any perfume from this price point. I call this my woodland fairy scent because it is fresh while having an intriguing depth.
Dare I say it reminds me a bit of my beloved Guerlain l’instant, only without the vanilla and caramel? I’ve sat at my vanity with a spritz of each perfume on a different wrist and trying hard to shake this feeling but I can’t. So if you liked l’instant but prefer wood over gourmand, I’d suggest you give this a try!
UPDATE: Only got this two weeks ago but have blown through a third of the 2 oz already! Never thought I’d be such a huge fan of citrus/patchouli blends but this one is particularly delicious and uplifting!
2nd UPDATE: Got to smell the Elie Saab at a counter. My amateur nose couldn’t pick out the difference! Very happy with my purchase.

    First:more than a nice price and second….what a nice,happy,beautiful,charming,well done perfume!!!!
You should try it for sure, you gonna love it!!!
Is playful and well blended and sunny and warm and I m really really glad I have it!

Based on the reviews here I went to a local drugstore called Rossmann here in Hamburg, Germany. They carry a lot of the fragrances by Jeanne Arthes and I’m really happy about that! Might have to go back to stock up since 60ml cost about 9 Euro…
On to the scent – I really adore this one (who would have thought) and knew it after first sprizz. But of course I knew I had to let it settle to be sure and started wandering around through shampoo and body lotion section 😀
Upon spraying I detect some fresh notes and also get the medicinal vibe few have mentioned. This has to be the mandarin orange and/or lemon. But I actually like that. After this initial blast the scent warms up and becomes flowery/oriental with the orangey tones still lingering in there somewhere. I can definitely smell the patchouli and cedar and think that the honey warms and sweetens everything up a notch.
All in all I give this one 7 out of 10 and will be happily wearing this one next time I go out bar-hopping 🙂
Update: tested Ellie Saab yesterday and this little jewel really smells like the EDT.

I have been wanting to try this for a while and thought I would love it based on the notes and reviews. However, sadly it is not for me. The lemon is too strong in combination with the sweet flowers, and overall it is very intense, so much so that I don’t think I would feel comfortable wearing it. I do not find it woody, rather mostly citrus, honey and orange blossom. Glad I did not blind buy – I was very close to doing so several times.

Black jewel is a sensual, modern, and easy to wear orange blossom floral. When I heard the comparisons to the lovely elie saab I really got my hopes up, and I got to say I am not the least bit disappointed.
Black jewel opens with a citrusy sweet smell, you can immediately smell the orange flower, lemon, and mandarin. It’s bright and optimistic. It’s very warm and sweet. I think it might be because some of the honey note from the base contributes.
Once you get the dry down I get an addition of a nice spicy cedar patchouli. The fragrance is a lovely and warm sweet, spicy, white floral. The patchouli is pretty strong but I think the cedar note is a little bit stronger.
Wearing black jewel I get a confident and stylish vibe. I don’t find this cheap smelling at all and it lasts a good 6-8 hours. It’s certainly worth the price tag! Sorry elie but I’ll be passing you up for this wonderful dupe!

This is beautiful, a great orange blossom and honey fragrance. I agree that it resembles Elie Saab, but I’d add that it has just as much in common with Lush Orange Blossom. It’s a keeper for sure. My only criticism is that I wish it had a bit more patchouli; I don’t smell it or the cedar note.

i bought this blind and i am regretting it. i couldn’t even try it on, i knew it would be way too strong for me. it’s a very very strong floral scent with a very synthetic backbone. the bottle is beautiful though.

How could something so inexpensive smell so good?? One of my famous blind buys, one that I think smells amazing. I’m not an expert so I don’t have all the fancy words to explain what “notes” I smell, but smells are subjective, different on everyone, and this one is a real gem, pun intended.
I have already bought another bottle as back-up. I so have a perfume addiction, but I can stop anytime, SURE!!

  38. :

Kind of a grapey white floral opening, but that mellows and is quickly overtaken by cedar & patchouli. Very woody. Probably best for evenings. A highly wearable jasmine.

  39. :

    5 out of 5

Standard Caveat, I don’t consider myself a “nose.” I have a hard time picking out specific notes. I will just say that I feel sexy and sophisticated when I wear this which is what I personally want from a perfume at 42 years old. There is something “dark” about this scent, in a very alluring way. It smells warm but mysterious, as if there’s more to the woman who wears it than meets the eye.
The wood is definitey noticible, enough that some men might be tempted to try this for themselves. But I don’t think it would give a masculine impression when worn by a woman. I would wear this at night in any season, but probably not during the day in spring or summer.
Also, sillage and longevity are just right, especially given the lower price point. Love it.

  40. :

I cannot believe I paid 13 dollars for this beauty on Ebay . It starts out alittle like Narciso Rodriguez but then dries down to a yummy sultry sweet musky floral with a little wood. Do not let the description fool you this is a very original sexy fragrance that is not very woody. Longevity is outstanding, I am in love with this and I have over 100 perfumes to compare this with. I just moved it to my top 10.

  41. :

Finally it arrived at our drustores and as I rushed through it, I grabbed the bottle and sprayed only once on my elbow. First of all I get blast of florals which is pretty sharply intense, but gentle at a time. There is one distinct note in it – sweet pea flower. One in one. It is sweet and intense aroma, which, in this fragrance is reproduced astonishingly accurate. This note is the main note with great sillage and lasting power. As it dies out a bit after several hours, cedar wood gets very prominent. It is beautifully mixed with white floral notes and have a bit of masculine quality. Honey isn’t much prominent, but it makes a composition warmer and more rounded up. Quite original and nice bargain.

  42. :

    5 out of 5

This is a very unusual scent and i love it! It does however remind me of sitting in a hospital clinic as the smell is somewhat medicinal, but i like that. The orange blossom is noticeable at the start. I can only smell the lemon note just after it has been sprayed. The cedar note is very prominent once the fragrance has dried down and i think its this note that makes it smell rather medicinal. I reckon there will be mixed views on this one. The bottle is to die for, so pretty!!
