Description

More sparkling and fresh than its precursor, this perfume includes all the relish scents of summer. Second in the “Les Belles de Ricci” collection, presented in 1996 in its beautiful green bottle, it carries explosive freshness of mint, basil, blueberry, tomato and fresh orange. Tomato dominates the heart of this perfume as well, along with a trail of magnolia and strong red notes of freesia. The base creates the full summer atmosphere with tomato leaf, sweet raspberry and juicy fig.

I’ve never, ever found a perfume that is as good as Liberty Fizz, but I do believe there are three other scents that are sisters to it!
My everyday sister perfume is YSL In Love Again, which has some of the same notes, but with less fizz and more of a sweet desert wine aroma. It is very subtle and wearable as a day to day perfume. also quite pricey sadly, but still genuinely lovely. It feels like me (as Liberty fizz did for the 16 years that I wore it!).
My special occasion sister to Liberty Fizz is Hedonist Cassis by Viktoria Minya. I think this is the closet match to Liberty Fizz…. particularly the acidic kick that made it so special (which is missing from YSL), but which has a slightly different feel due to the rose in it. It dries down more floral so isn’t identical, but it’s very reminiscent. Sadly it is also extremely expensive, so I don’t wear it everyday!
I think Grain de Folie Gres is the last sister – also very similar and has the exciting fizz of Liberty Fizz, but with more floral notes and dries down with a vanilla aroma. I would 100% wear this one if it didn’t have vanilla in it! Me and vanilla are not friends, but If you don’t mind vanilla this is a great way to get the vibe of Les Belles.
I really hope this helps anyone searching desperately for dupes as I have been for YEARS, and I still hope to find something that smells like Liberty fizz without the insane price tag attached to some of it’s relatives!

For all the lovers of this fume, please see the new nina ricci “bella”.
Almost identical, i say almost as i cannot be sure without a side by side comparison.
Its close enough to my memory , having not smelled LES BELLES for a few year now.
Ive always been a HUGE fan of this ,and as soon as i tested Bella, WOW, so happy!! The perfume gods have answered my prayers. I know theres lots of people om here who love this fume as much as i do , so passing om the info om Bella in case you were not aware.
I wonder if Nina Ricci people read this website and have taken notice , thus deciding to release the formula under a new name, or its just a damn lucky co-inxidence. I like to think they have listened to us all , as im not aware of them releasing any of their other old formulas under a new name??
Whatever the reason,i am over the moon and hope the other fans on this page will be too.
Ps – Bella is in am adorable bottle 🙂
    Thank you Nina Ricci!!

Liberty Fizz could be marketed with one of those classy/trashy retro ads with the sexy half-dressed girl lounging in an enormous champagne glass–
Only instead of bubbly, she’s cavorting in a salad made with green tomatoes.
She wears a scant top of sweet herbs, flowers strung over her middle and a coy fig leaf on the bottom.
She’ll stay for a second drink, cracking jokes about Virgin Marys with extra olives, but she leaves before the third.

I got this from my aunt when I was a teenager. I loved it from the very second I got it. I smelled the raspberry, basil, tomatoe leaf, black currant and mint from this. When the bottle was empty, I saved it for many years and remember how I smelled it again and again from that bottle. Once when I moved to a new apartment, I threw the bottle away and now I regret it. I wish I could smell this again. It was so fresh and sweet, but not too sweet. I so wish they would launch this again…

OMG! I loved this perfume so much. That sharp, fizzy sweetness! Such a shame they discontinued it. I’ve never really ever found a perfume that has smelt even similar!! Fond memories of this smell!!
I also liked the quirky green bottle, although it did remind me of a green poo!!!!!!

For those you miss that wonderful perfume, Nina Ricci released a new perfume “Bella” which is a real clone to Liberty Fizz (Liberte Acidulee). You have to try!

The good news for those who liked this in the 90’s and nowadays also would like to use it, the new Viktoria Minya Hedonist Cassis is absolutely like this. I used Les Belles de Ricci Liberty Fizz when I was in my 20’s and I still love the black currant note. Its fresh, cold, green, fruity, I can say this perfume is timeless!

This is absolutely insane, it feels custom made and smells of pure bliss. And don’t even get me started on the bottle. This would be my signature scent if it hadn’t been tragically discontinued and if my bottle hadn’t gone sour.

LittleDolly – Please do tell us of the oil dupe you managed to find for this . Its my most sorely missed discontinued frag EVER.
Would be so happy to find a dupe !!!
Im aware of Grain de folie – Gres , but it is as rare as the Les Belles over here!!
    Thank You !

Perfect description down below Madrona. I had a bottle of this in the late ’90’s and it was sensational. A real waker upper. Sooo fresh. Sad it’s gone….

Fuck, this is so great. Fizzy green uplifting joie-de-vivre explosion of tomato leaf, raspberry sour candies, magnolia, garden herbs and fruit salad. Never smelled anything like it. I snagged a mini for almost nothing off a local flea market because I recognized the bottle from Fragrantica. Why do I keep trying discontinued scents? Sigh…

Nothing smells as good as this perfume. I miss it so much, I wore it for 16 years before having to give up on old bottles and move on to an inferior perfume. YSL In Love Again is the only perfume I’ve found so far that smells even remotely like Liberty Fizz. It has familiar notes, but is definitely lacking the ‘Fizz’ part! I am desperate for Ninna Ricci to re-release this perfume (even for a special edition so I can buy every bottle made!) but until then I’ll continue searching for a scent that matches it 🙁
I just tried Grain de Folie Gres and it is actually quite similar to Liberty fizz in some ways… unlike In love again it has a bit of the acidic qualities, but with the addition of vanilla and more floras changes the over all smell. I can’t wear it because I detest vanilla in perfume, but for those who don’t mind it, this could be a great alternative to the glorious Les Belles!

For me, it’s just a mystery that Nina Ricci has discontinued such beautiful and original fragances to release instead the pretty mediocre Nina (new) line.
I still remember this one. It was green, very green, almost botanic and edible, perhaps the greenest fragance that I have ever smelled. Slightly similar to Sisley Eau de Champaigne. Very crisp, bitter, invigorating, almost salty. Truly rebelious and mischieving, and very youthful, but nonetheless charming (nothing to do with the clones of hideous fruitchouly fragances allegedly destined to young, rebel women in our days). Ideal for a young, stylish, elegant, but original and slighlty whimsical women.

Oh, I remember this perfume so very very fondly. I was 18, my Aunty bought it for my Birthday. I wore it to college most days, it would last all day, more so on my clothes rather than my skin. But, as I’d sit in lectures, I could smell that fresh, green & very strong tomato leaf scent, it was warm though. Comforting. I had this in the refillable green & pink “can”. I lost the empty years ago. I always remembered it. I asked on a group on Facebook whether someone could remember what perfume was in the packaging & some wonderful person did! Immediately I looked for it but, it’s so expensive… However, there was a chance that a similar/dupe oil might be out there, and it was! When it arrived it was exactly as I rembered, it has the same dry down, the same longevity. I have two 10ml perfume oil bottles, and I’m trying to get hold of more, but, like the original, sadly the oil is rare too.

I love, love, love, love this! This is in my all time top ten. The tomato leaves smell of celery, and one would think this wouldn’t work in a perfume, but it really does. It gives a sweet sourness to perfection.
To the reviewers who think the sour element is ‘turning’, no it is supposed to be sour! Give it time on the skin to develop.
It is sweet, light, delightful, fruity in the most beautiful way. Because of the tomato this is never too sweet.
This is the perfume I most want to be brought back.
If you are ever confused between the look of this and ‘Liberte Acidulee’ just remember that this is frosted green glass, and acidulee is clear green glass.

I have owned a miniature of Liberty Fizz for quite some time as I have a very rare coffret of Nina Ricci scents in my possession. Last month I opened my little box of gems and much to my dismay I found my little bottle of Liberty Fizz was slowly evaporating. I remedied this situation by deciding to use it straight away as part of my Spring rotation.
I am so blown away by this fragrance. It is definitely up there as one of my favourite warm weather scents, and this is coming from someone that is not the biggest fan of fruity florals.
When I wear Liberty Fizz I smell like a sexy garden salad, and as strange as that sounds it sums up this fragrance perfectly. Liberty Fizz has a dominant note of juicy tomatoes, basil and fig leaf. It’s as green as it gets with a hint of sour juiciness.
The heart brings black currant, raspberry and orange, adding a sweet, fruity and playful dimension to this fragrance. Liberty Fizz is definitely a warm weather scent, a scent that really comes to life with lots of sunshine and fresh air.
The drydown while still maintaining its fruitiness, tends to smell a tad soapy on me. I quite like this blend of fruity and clean. It really adds to this fragrance’s overall appeal.
I wish Nina Ricci still made scents like this. I love so many old-school fragrances from this house. Nina Ricci knew how to take a daring and unique bunch of notes and turn it into something beautiful. Such is the case with Liberty Fizz, a scent that deserves the accolade and would benefit from being brought back from the dead.

I was excited to get this Liberty Fizz in a swap: I love tomato leaf as a perfume note, and this one has such a good reputation for that. I also like the bottle; it sure is ugly but it’s so nineties it takes me right back to my early teens. So I was hoping for a hit both from a perfume lover’s and a nostalgic’s point of view.
Unfortunately, I only got the latter: as other people have mentioned, it’s 2015 and this bottle might be from 1998 or thereabouts, and it’s really too much to expect that not to show. I don’t get the sour smell like some other reviewers, so I think my bottle hasn’t gone off completely, but the scents have been dulled considerably. In the top there’s no citrus left at all anymore; just tomato (leaf) and maybe a little basil, green but a bit soapy. Not bad but as I said, pretty dull. I can imagine this being great if it was brighter and more sparkling, which I’m guessing it was 15 years ago.
The heart and drydown continue on the same lines: the scent becomes softer, sweeter and fruitier, but all in a very subdued way that I blame on the age of the bottle.
Too bad, because this seems like it might have been exactly my thing once upon a time. But no use crying over spilled milk; I’ll just put this on my next swap list with a warning about the age, and maybe it’ll make some die hard happy despite its old age ailments…

I read with interest Autumn777’s review below…… Ebay – sour perfume.
I know now that it is NOT worth the extortionate prices charged on ebay for this scent , as my 20ml Id hoarded has also turned sour/off now 🙁
I had saved and saved it for a special occasion…..Took it out for a sniff last week and it did not smell right. I wore it anyway and had to shower 10mins later as the whole house smelt of sour green evilness!!
So I’d advise not purchasing this folks , it is a 90s perfume and it seems that now in 2015 these old bottles are all turning sour…Shame.
God I miss this scent so much. Must be the 100th “review” Ive made on this page ,which is just a comment really , but had to let fans of this scent know to use and enjoy now before it goes sour.

@Joan100 – “If this doesnt get relaunched then maybe some other small but very expensive perfume house will relaunch a fragrance with a similar scent. Sigh!”
    I wish they would !!
I just read that Hermes Jardin sur de nil has tomato leaf in it. Must try that.
After all these years I have still not sniffed ANYTHING like this , YSL’s In Love Again is similar but not as good.
I still have 20ml stashed away for this summer…Been hoarding it for a while , time to use it up before it turns.

This came in an old gift box and this mini had been half used (the favourite?)
A powerful blackcurrant blast at first. Then raspbery, then tomato and orange. All this fruitiness over a bed of fresh herbs. The floral notes keep this sweet and light. But that tangy tomato sparkle keeps peeping through. I like this a lot, it is a fresh juicy, fruity cocktail in the most fun container. Spangly pink and frosted bright green. I can see why this got the most use, a very fruity summery affair.

Well this is green and fresh and fruity, sorry – weggie in a different but nice way.
I feel kind of girly wearing it, but do I want to smell like a tomato?- not sure.
Well somehow I like the way the tomato leaf and tomato note projects in this , as a contrary to that I disliked the tomato notes in sur le Nil.
Does this remind me of YSL In love again, no
    – at least not my new pink bottled realease of it.
The perfume that comes to mind is a vague and very distant memory of a note and tone in Venetia pastello that I once owned.
The princess bottle fits the juice, but this time a good match.
This is def not my type of scent, I am happy for some ml just to see if I agreed on the YSL comparisition?
    – Verdict – Doesn’t agree.

I feel exactly the same way as FunkyTomo! I can tell she is a huge fan of this fragrance! I can vaguely remember all these years back seeing all these groovy pink and green bottles on sale in the shops but I didnt consider buying them as I had brought the super popular CK One instead which is still around (silly me!). The notes sound wonderful and unique and it would definitely stand out amongst all these synthetic vanilla/ultra sweet fruity florals of nowadays if this wasnt discontinued. If this doesnt get relaunched then maybe some other small but very expensive perfume house will relaunch a fragrance with a similar scent. Sigh!

I just LOVED this one. Smelled so special, festively happy, bright and beautiful.
    I really miss this one…
Now that I read it had tomato in it, I finally understand that sweet-and-sour effect it had, very vibrant and alive.

Finally got this – have vivid memories of the happy, colorfull ad but at that time I was not into perfumes so never even tried it.
Now I have and must say I was expecting a strong tomatonote but mostly it is sweet and off course green and a bit flowery.

I had this in the 90s. It was a very refreshing scent, and unusual. At the time I didn’t know much about fragrances, but I liked that it had fruitiness, plus the herbal/vegetable scents. I do remember that it would turn a bit sour on me. How funny.

It is a very fresh fragance, very feminine, funny and unusual. I haven’t been able to find something like this.

@”smile for the camera” review below
Please update your review if you get a reply from Nina Ricci!!
id be over the moon if they brought this perfume back out. . . Oh i wish they would !! I always get outbidded on the odd rare bottle that come uop on ebay so its obvious that the scent does have a “following” . There are some “buy it now” bottles about , but pricey. I remember when this was only £10 for 30ml in Boots!!
Hindsight – I wish id stocked up !!
If they dont bring it back it would be a good idea for another house to bring out something similar , i have looked for years and i find NOTHING similar on the marktet with that glorious fresh tomato/basil/mint/fruity combo of notes.
Maybe some obscure niche house may make something like this….i dont know , if anyone knows of something similar then please advise us hardcore ” Liberty Fizz” fans.
Dire straits – im down to 10ml now , which i want to use this summer , but dare not in case I cant replace !! need to have at least a bit in the house to just be able to have a “sniff” now n then …….yers , quite a bad case of addiction with this particular perfume !!

I heart tomato! I’m in love with this perfume. It’s increasingly difficult to find, and expensive when you do. There is something about the tomato and florals, along with that lovely basil that is just kick ass. It is fresh, invigorating, and a bit complex – nothing tooth-achingly sweet here. It’s summertime in a bottle. It’s refreshing like a garden of earthly delight. Oh I hope the House of Ricci will bring it back! I wrote and inquired …

The nicest and most delicious scent from NR. It’s not a gourmand but it smells yum yum. A unique burst of tomato leaf, basil and soapy blueberry. I love it. I get so many compliments. Wish I could find it cheaper. Too bad it’s discontinued. I have the mini and don’t use it as often so I probably won’t need to splurge on this one. The bottle is so adorable though.
I recommend it. It’s very unique and fresh.

Just need to get this out of my system to other people with a perfume hobby/addiction/fetish …………After many years of been outbid on ebay , or not having the spare £100 wanted by a seller in Dubai who had a stash of 100ml bottles , I finally managed to snare a bottle !! Whoo hoo !!
A friend had a half full , bashed up bottle with the sprayer missing , in her drawer for years , it is now mine. I cannot find a compatible sprayer off the top of any of my other fumes , so i shall decant it. The bottle looks terrible , but i dont care . I am so happy to be able to own 50ml of this juice again! It was a gift from my good friend . She also has a box full of vintage Chanel’s n Fendis. She was going to BIN the lot as she thought they were all “Old rubbish” – No !! ! So lucky for her that she mentioned it before she did throw any out!! ( the chanels n fendis will be ebayed but she is letting me buy the chanel 19 once we have been advise in the vintage section of this site!)
Wearing it now , and its everything i remembered. the one downside , it is not lasting on my skin at all , so i think the juice may have lost some potency from not been stored correctly.
I have also realised that Les Belles is quite similar to YSL’s In Love Again , which has just been re-released . I would like to buy a bottle of ILA , but they are charging £70. When In Love Again was out the 1st time around , it was no-where near £70 a btl.
I would love to know why YSL have doubled the price , but if you are prepared to pay £70 and you miss this wonderful “les belles de ricci” , then the “In Love Again” would make a good substitute.
Im just very glad i managed to be able to wear this perfume again , and could share it with those who share the passion of this hobby!

I really miss this “Fume” and every new fruity green perfume that comes out I test to see if I can find something similar. No luck so far. This scent is the original and best “Fruity Floral” IMO.

I finally got my hands on a bottle! This scent is very pleasant. It’s light and so refreshing, very much different from the perfumes I typically wear. I agree with tommy_girl, fresh like a cool glass of lemonade or like walking through a greenhouse of herbs. Although girly, it does have an edge of maturity to it. Bottles are hard to come by since the perfume is discontinued, but I see this being my main scent for summer.

One of my all time top 5 perfumes …I absoluely LOVE this frag!!
Some find it sour/tart , but that’s what I like about it . It was slightly sour in a refreshing and enjoyable sense , maybe like a lime and lemon drink , or a Mojito cocktail.
I’m gutted its almost impossible to find now , as Ive never been able to find anything that even closely resembles that wonderful , refreshing Mint/Tomato/Cucumber with a fruity base .
Liberty Fizz is far superior to the current rash of over sweet , cloying , “smell-alikes” that the market is flooded with.
It conjures up images of drinking fruit cocktails in the garden in summer, where all these lovely plants , fruits , veggies and herbs ( Basil!) are growing , the sun is shining and there’s a young . optimistic air .
For those searching for it – I was outbid at the last min ( damn! ) for a 100ml bottle on eBay last week….100mls too!!…I knew i should of gone higher. I noticed there IS bottles of it for sale on eBay at Buy IT Now prices , coming in from Portugal and Dubai. The only downside is that the sellers must be very aware of its rarity , and a hardcore of fans such as me who are desperate to find it again. There charging £80 for 30ml , which is a LOT of money for 30ml IMO. IM still tempted though.
Maybe ill save up and keep checking those car boot stalls , charity shops and online sales in the meantime.
LOVE IT < LOVE IT – NINA RICCI PLEASE BRING IT BACK!
If anyone has some for swops or sale , PLEASE PM me !!
10/10 for me – SuperOriginal back then ans still nothing like it out there now

Tomatoes in the greenhouse. If you love this smell, lots of people do, hence all those vine tomatoes sold nowadays, this would be a lovely summer fragrance. I fear it might be discontinued, however.

I remember this as being nasty and acidic. Like the bottle it comes in, jarring and spiky. It has a sister called Les Belles Acidulee, who is presumably even more vicious and spiteful and will scratch your eyes out as soon as look at you.

It’s in my top 5 ! I was so mad it’s been discontinued , most of my favortie are :-‘(
From what i remember they used tomato LEAVES for it, not tomatos themselves. Anyway it’s very original , vey sparkling , one of a kind, very young .And unlike most “young perfumes” nowadays it’s not over sweet .
I had 2 (or 3 can’t remember) of this one , and one of them was the bigger one ( 100ml) , and whereas this size is too big for me (as i becaome easily bored , even with scents i love) , i enjoyed every squirt of it . It was pure enjoyement .

Another trip down memory lane… I remember this was the first perfume I bought for myself (not Sexy Graffiti).
I adored the rather tart topnotes, before it settled into a sweeter base.
It was fruity – but it was done in a fresh way, not a sugary, cloying way

  53. :

I think this perfume in underrated.this is very lovely that will give the impression of liberty and happiness to the female who’s wearing this.
before escada make it’s famous fruity scents, nina ricci has done this,by making this one and the others in 90s decade.
this is very fresh like a glass of cool lemonade in the hot weather.I really enjoy the tomato dominant note in this perfume.
it’s girlish, energetic and flirty, much better than the too many fruity fragrances which was launched after 2000.
unfortunately I’ve finished my bottle and I haven’t found it lately in stores.but,if I do I’ll but it again and again.
