I’ll try it again but my first impression was not good. I get BO & light urine from it. There’s also a vintage vibe in it.

The perfumer did a great job of creating a sea-like quality without it being harsh or “chemical.” The few Micallefs I’ve tried so far have been rather simple, though natural-smelling, like the Creed scents I’ve tried, in many ways. What’s missing is something that takes the composition beyond “nice.” Creed does this with a few, but I hadn’t encountered any Micallefs that did until Red Sea, which is evocative and unique, yet still smells pleasant over a long period of time, without any “negatives.” It’s got a bit of a hot/spicy quality so if you don’t like that you should certainly sample first. Note that the sea-like quality lasts a couple hours or so, then it quiets down but doesn’t change substantially, other than for the sea-like quality being considerably less noticeable.

TLDR: salty air with a cumin (human) undertone. Skanky spices pop out after a freshly aromatic rose + saltwater air opening.
On me this opens very similar to Le Labo’s Rose 31; fresh spicy rose mixed with aromatic spices. It seems to have a feel of salty air and a woody touch that has the lightness of driftwood, if the weight and feel of wood matched its scent. After a bit the rose fades out (away from Rose 31 now) and I get LOTS of what I’m thinking is ISO E super – makes sense given they were going for a woody spicy ‘sea’ vibe according to the name – and yes, the cumin vibe up close.
Maybe 20 mins into the drydown I can see where someone got the comparison to Kingdom EDP. Mmm, cumin <3 I’m happy that the spices are making themselves more apparent than in 31. You really need to appreciate those type of spices to love this. There remains a salty, silt soft feel to the whole composition. Like the softest silt found on the edges of streams, it manages to feel like silk until you try to break it down to its smaller, grittier particles by purposefully separating it between your fingertips. Other than that, there is a slight bit of an ammonia note. I don’t know what it could possibly be from, but my bf (who’s in the med field and very blunt in these matters because he knows I value his scent opinions) detects it too. Oddly, it makes me like it more. It makes the scent even more human; it feels alive! Others online have compared this scent to an eastern spice market on a breezy, warm evening, and I can really understand that in my imagination. I love it. It’s humanity, our bodily smells and food seasonings and the breeze of our favorite time of day all rolled into one. I don’t know if Martine Micallef was aiming for that when she created this, but damn good job if so!
Additionally the physical presentation is gorgeous. The cap is quite heavy and sinks satisfyingly onto the bottle. The red gems and the hand painted branch motif look prettier in person than on the pic here, as with all Micallef bottles.

The spices are strong, especially the cumin. A very BO smell.

I can’t get any of the notes listed above. Ok, I presume they are THERE, but they are all in such a chaotic mix that none of them is dominating and seen as one. Only rose is a little bit noticable.
In general I can tell, that I’m not a fan of Red Sea. It’s chaotic and a bit sour, it’s extremely refreshing and it feels like i’ve poured iced water on my wrist, so this would probably work perfectly in hot weather. Anyway – rose is what I start to get more and more and it’s beautiful rose, but I hoped that I would get any other notes as well. I don’t agree that this is oriental or spicy. Or oriental spicy even more. There are no spices, just iced rose which I find to be a bit too simple.

Green, lightly spicy, slightly masculine at the opening. Really do get the iris. Spicyness does continue through drydown but I don’t get the sandalwood & musk base at all. Not very good lasting power.

This is a wonderful scent, however, I find it’s lasting power to be much to brief.
