This review is for Diptyque’s L’eau de L’eau
found it! – smells better than I expected ! In
judging by the name, that is. Doesn’t smell
exceptionally noteworthy, but not sO horrid
either. First spray refreshing zesty orange,
but after one second it instantly dries down
to a medicine scent (benzoine), then a sec
later I get green, then it gets very WEAK &
I smell geranium. Unisex, a lazy scent, it’s
good for November mornings when you’re
not wanting to smell exceptional/anything.

Olivier Pescheux certainly had a theme going on in 2008; it was all over his blockbuster scent 1 Million, and it’s here, too – a huge overdose of cinnamon.
I haven’t sniffed the original Diptyque L’Eau, released in 1968, but a quick perusal of its notes shows it, too, was heavy on the cinnamon and clove. L’Eau de L’Eau adds a citrus-floral freshness to the top notes, which gives it a certain lightness and transparency. Yet despite being part of Diptyque’s Les Hespéridées line, this is no fleeting eau fraiche – it’s a light oriental, but an oriental nonetheless, with a big cinnamon hit reminiscent of Aramis JHL. I wouldn’t wear JHL in the summer, and the same is true of L’Eau de L’Eau; save this for spring and autumn. Or better yet, save it for winter.
Overall, L’Eau de L’Eau isn’t for me. I much prefer the lighter saffron-spiced L’Eau de Tarocco or the uplifting citrus floral L’Eau de Neroli. Still, it’s a good choice for cinnamon-heavy oriental lovers who want a lighter option.

The name may be daft, but the scent is decent. I evolves smoothly into something that may ideally be worn in autumn. A typical Diptyque product, unusual and unisex.

I got a sample of this, this week. I had been familiar with this as I discover other Diptyque fragrance, thinking it’s pretty sophisticated that this company has a line of Eaux Fraiches. I am wearing it today and did not realize how strong it is and well balance with spices(cinnamon, ginger) and citrus(lemon). I’m picking up the ginger and I have to say it is reminiscent of Lemon Ginger Tea. It will probably influence me to start drinking my Grapefruit Ginger Tea I rarely sip.
I’m looking for a ginger fragrance to replace Jo Malone Nutmeg and Ginger( just doesn’t last long , you know)–this could be it. Does this remind me of Origin Ginger –kind of, sort of?
As far as a Eaux Fraiches goes(judging by Guerlain’s dominance in category), this has it’s own unique spin due to the spiciness. Worth a sniff test if ever out and around Diptyque counter or boutiques. This would certainly make an excellent candle.

This is not something I would ever dream I would enjoy, but I am loving it!I received a lovely sample and at first blast I immediately got citrus. I let it dry down an I am picking up the clove and ginger in a big way! It’s Christmas time and in Dixie and our temps go from one extreme to the next…today it is a balmy 72 degrees and this perfume is zesty fresh and spicy, just what I needed to get me in the spirit of the holidays! I seem to recall SL Five O’Clock Gingembre has a similar vibe to it however, L’eau de L’eau seems a little more powdery.I am also taken back to that old barber shop talc that my grandfather used and I find it very comforting. Definitely a unisex scent, nice and inoffensive.

An elegant French version of classic cologne, more waxy and soapy with a hint of citrus.
Last for hours. I bought the 200ml bottle two years ago (now discontinued), and it still goes strong.
In some way it is more synthetic than fresh, but has an elegant sunny character that makes it a pleasant layer to have around you throughout the day.
cntgfy11 – :
Probably one of the best renditions of old fashioned citrus eau de cologne I’ve ever smelled. Tangy, juicy, a little powdery, expensive smelling. I like this 😛
mironrus – :
The ginger and citrus really remind me of gingerale! Very refreshing for such a spicy scent. The cloves are not as strong as most scents, but you can definitely still smell them. Great spicy scent that is not too heavy for work, daytime wear, or warm weather. My only concern is that it doesn’t seem to last too long. A soft spicy scent.
Farbek-L14 – :
This is the best out of the four L’eau fragrances from Diptyque in my opinion. It is reminiscent of the original L’eau, but very fresh. It isn’t a generic citrus though, it has spice and personality all it’s own. I don’t expect major longevity from this, but it’s refreshing and I will grab for it during the hotter months of summer.
doun ace – :
What an interesting fragrance! I have yet to find a creation from Diptyque yet that suits me besides Volutes, so I’m glad I finally encountered another one.
This IS as fresh as the name suggests, though also mildly sweet as well. If I could compare L’eau de L’eau to ONE thing to convey what this smells like… If you think back to the 90’s, to those dot candies that came in a roll, which you had to peel off of the thin white paper (And end up eating a mouthful of paper anyway…), THAT is the entire experience that I get from this fragrance; Soft spicy sweetness, and a hint of paper.
The opening is more spicy/citrus than any other part of the fragrance. Clove, lemon and cinnamon are all you get for the first 15 minutes! The rest of the fragrance is saturated with sweet lavender, which entirely tones down any spice remaining. Overall, there’s a very pleasant, relaxing, neutral vibe to this scent, and it reminds me of a natural scent you’d find in an office, waiting room, doctor’s office, to put people at ease.
Clean, non-offensive, unisex, stress-relieving, aromatic.

I’m expecting a fresher flanker. I’d call it : L’Eau de L’Eau de L’Eau.
Eau La La !
mihosyann – :
This is a great alternative to your run-of-the-mill summer scents. It comes from the L’Eau line(which I adore) that is characterized by the fresh, dominant citrus note. If it was just about citrus, then it would be boring. What makes this frag beautiful is the clever use of clove and other spices, which make it stand out among the crowd without overheating the composition to make it too warm. The overall effect is clean and soapy(it gets soapier as it dries down). Also, it lasts for a good 6 hours in the summer heat.
bsa2 – :
Green-spicy. Lemon, cloves and ginger really stand out. A bit masculine and soapy to me. Interesting fragrance though.
sqwo – :
Elegant soapy love affair with the 1920s. Cloves and carnations and a very protective masculine warmth. This is what L’Ombre Dans L’Leau’s lover wears.
CkayStingNet – :
I adore this fragrance. Softly citrus and spice. It is perfectly balanced, and dries down to something very personal. This is one for your soul…..not meant to share.
klon – :
At first is a bright citrus, two seconds later is the most realistic ginger, bam!
I like ginger scents, but because of the cloves, this fragrance gets too spicy.
But thankfully after a few minutes the fire is contained and it becomes cleaner, fresh, still very lively.
If you enjoy this scent you may want to try also, Ramon Monegal’s UMBRA, which has a strong Canadian fir but it feels as fresh and light as this one.
MrAdam – :
It’s too much–just too strong and way too masculine on me….
Coloric – :
An aromatic-citrus Eau De Cologne driven by a clove/cinnamon combo. It opens with zingy citruses and lavender to then introduce a spicy accord during the mid-phase that stays quite linear for a few hours to then turn into a sweetish and kinda balsamic resinous base. If you like cloves, this is a well crafted and pretty natural smelling concoction which results smooth and understated but somewhat forgettable and a tad anonimous.
Rating: 6/10
Vkosoy – :
This was my man’s scent when I met him. Eventually I started wearing it myself. It is citrusy, warm and spicy. A refreshing, feel good and sensual day in a bottle.
dannaAffibe – :
I love this scent! So much so I fear I’ll drive off the road smelling my wrist.
This is an oriental without the typical vanilla-musk-amber dry-down. It is SPICE to the 4th power. Clove. Carnation. Nutmeg. Sandelwood. It reminds me of the aroma in some antique wood boxes I have opened. LDL evokes, in me, a feeling of quiet intrigue, a mass in an ancient cathedral, a secret kept forever. Mystery and spice. Spice and mystery.
I have read that Diptyque makes short-lived aromas. L’eau de L’eau must be the exception. It lasts a good 6 hours on my skin and much longer on clothing.
As bold as this fragrance is, it is not rude. The sillage is fairly close to the body; you will not gas out the room like many many orientals do.
This scent is mysterious, exotic, and until everyone owns a bottle, uniquely luscious.
vyurltqpwcj – :
I love this scent, has very citrucy opening and after 10min on my skin you can smell a really sweet soft scent..stays all day with me.
Рита – :
This opens strongly with a sweetish, spicy citrus, then the cloves note bursts power fully through before settling down to a softer, woody spice. Not a fragrance I would wear and I believe it would suit gentlemen rather than ladies. It is somewhat remiscent of a softer version of Trumper’s Bay Rum.
desya – :
Citrucy opening, more suitable for women in my opinion, I can smell rose, though its not mentioned in the ingredients
