Let me underscore what has already been said…1) this is not “blue” smelling in the way a lot of people expect. it is not aquatic or marine smelling 2) blind buy at your own risk. this is not a crowd pleaser. it is a unique scent that will turn some people off.
I enjoy this scent. the rosemary and juniper make it green without being “piney”. Disagree with another comment that the rosemary was too resinous. I kind of wish it was more resinous as I love the smell of sharp rosemary on my skin. I find the rosemary in L’Eau Blue to be softer…its edges rounded so it can play nice with the citrus, woods and other green notes. Spring/fall scent. a little heavy for the heat of summer too fresh for the winter. Good longevity. nice sillage.

I picked this up because I love L’eau D’issey (for my wife) and it was on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart for $19.99… I read the reviews on fragrantica before buying, but after using it for a couple months, I can firmly say that I am not a fan.
As other reviewers have noted – it’s not for everyone; else, you have to let the scent grow on you. For me, it’s just too heavy, lasts too long and I’m not really a fan of the sandalwood scent! It’s very powerful.

    Ahem,
This is a wonderful “go to” when you don’t know what to put on.
It’s an “even Steven” type fragrance. Groundbreaking ? No. Distinctive on it’s own? Sure. Price point = affordable to all.
The one thing that hooks me in it with the combination of notes , and the blue bottle, I actually get a “blueberry” vibe, even in an abstracted way. This vibe make the juice “fun” and drags it out of “simple” zone, despite it’s “coldness”.
So yeah, if your on your phone and standing at T.J. Marshalls, and looking this up to help you decide: GO FOR IT. It’s probably the best thing on their sloppy disheveled crap rack.
(Unisex-not so much if ladies be looking this up.)
    D.T.M.A.A.O.
(Don’t thank me all at once)

The cypress and rosemary along with the Juniper makes it smell somewhat metallic, cold and resinous almost like turpentine. Very unusual smell…

I don’t get the “blue, rainy” feeling at all, on me this has almost a Mediterranean vibe. It’s bright, sunny, herbaceous, woody and very cheerful. I think it is a wonderful addition to my wardrobe and you can’t beat the price.

Ho letto in diversi forum pareri molto positivi.
    Non è per me.

I bought a decant from someone online and either it was fake or this stuff is a joke on longevity-
IT SMELLS SO FRESH, GREEN & SPICY
NOT THE POLO GREEN SPICE LOL

Long lasting, unique cold scent, but not for me.

This fragrance is not “Blue” in the aquatic sense, or what marketing had made us all expect when presented with a cobalt blue bottle such as this. No this fragrance is blue in an emotional sense. Its a rainy day, feeling solemn for no discernable reason, lost in a wet pine forest with no sunshine. The initial blast is citrus and green, and it dries down to a woody spice. It smells really, really good. But somehow evokes a somber feeling for me. I prefer an everyday fragrance to be uplifting. My Husband says it smells like the inside of a Cracker Barrel, LOL, but he means it in a good way. Wood and spice. That’s the amazing thing about fragrance, they evoke different feelings and memories in all of us. So despite my personal reaction to this seeming negative, I honestly do enjoy the smell! I would not recommend this as your Lady Killing Special Going Out Sauce Gentlemen, or even a blind everyday reach. I think I would recommend this when you need to be calmed or calming, or perhaps something to channel your energy whilst working, or when you need to feel zen. Sometimes rainy days are nice, you can lounge on the couch and make some soup.

Nice autumn/winter-scent. I don’t see the Bleue in this, suggests a fresher scent that it actually is. Wouldn’t buy it again, bit boring, but nevertheless nice for colder days.

L’eau Bleue is indeed “a grower”–meaning that for many, they may need to allow themselves time to grow into an appreciation of it, or otherwise miss out entirely on this one-of-a-kind gem. Huge thanks go out to my fellow reviewers for this very insightful heads-up! Taking their advice with an open mind, it took me about a week wearing LB to really gain an understanding and appreciation of this fragrance. But, boy was it ultimately worth it!!
So be patient when first trying L’eau Bleue. Don’t focus on, or get overly distracted by the fairly strong rosemary scent in the open, as I initially did. The rosemary eventually settles-in very nicely with the rest of the composition. Ultimately you end up with a brilliant arrangement of cypress, rosemary and juniper berries being front and center, while citruses, spices, amber and woods play a subtle supporting role; all perfectly orchestrated in the drydown, resulting in this creatively smooth “masterpiece”. Fresh and forest-green, cool and warm, refreshing and relaxing, creative and versatile. When was the last time you experienced ALL OF THOSE qualities in a single bottle of cologne?!!
L’eau Bleue’s performance is also notable…..with its foresty-herbal aroma wafting about you for over 8 hours! And yes, all of this for under $30! Unique, green and amazing!!…..L’eau Bleue D’Issey Pour Homme… 9/10 overall. (And most likely 11/10 if you “love” the notes of both cypress and rosemary)

I will say this now, this is not for everyone. I bought this as a blind buy having been intrigued by the reviews and it could easily have worked out badly, but luckily I love it. This is so herbal, rosemary in particular, and so green. The name and the deep blue bottle are an absolute red herring in my opinion (blue herring?) as there is nothing aquatic or watery about this at all, nope not in the slightest.
The first spray (believe me, you don’t need much of this at all) is intense. After a short while it does soften a little and you’re left with this lovely pine forest and rosemary aroma which seems to last for ages, I could still smell it a good 10 hours after spraying and it stays on clothes even longer.
Very unique, very devisive, but really pleased I own a bottle.

Interesting take on what I’d guess I’d call an aquatic/chypre meld, and a pretty unique fragrance at that. For me, L’eau Bleue evokes the basic structure of Acqua di Gio blended with a bright rosemary and just a hint of that dour cypress from Encre Noir. In the opening, I also get a sweet/bitter accord that reminds me very much of Calvin Klein Dark Obsession. So yeah, there’s a lot going on here.
In terms of performance, this may not be a screamer, but it does last a good long time closer to the skin. And it smells fresh in a way that really plays up herbaceous depth against a lightly sweet citrus/floral backdrop. Not too serious, also not boyish. Just right.
Instant like for me, with potential to become a love – especially relative to the price. Whoever called this one a sleeper was spot on.

You might not like this at first but keep trying, it’s a grower. Totally unique herbal/green fragrance – lovely.

So undecided on this one. I don’t like the opening at all there’s something in there that leaps out on first spray and its not that pleasent. Obviously though this frag is known for its dry down so after 10 mins it starts to smell much nicer. It’s hard to really say what I get from this it’s not foresty, wet, or really that green to me its more of a fruity, herbal medicinal kind of smell but kept in a cider bottle ha it’s not a love for me just a like. With time though I could start to like it more. I wasn’t a huge fan of the intense Issey miyake but Its starting to grow on me now. Average projection and slightly above average performance for me. Weird but nice juice.

This is a sleeper, it is more than just a freshy, it has this amazing, magical herbal smell that stays in a bubble around you & just lasts for 12 plus hours, I love it.

Just added this one to my collection (and new here on the forum)
Overall, one day in to using it, I’m a fan. The opening is intensely green and refreshing. As well as the notes listed in the description here I get a fresh, sweet pungency reminiscent of fresh coriander leaves (cilantro) on top of the coniferous notes. It softens after a few minutes and I pick out another edible note – fresh sliced fennel bulb – again bringing sweetness along with a hint of celery and anise. It’s intriguing, challenging and invigorating!
Later on I found a much different character to the opening… Softer and more reassuring. Warm, spicy and resinously woody. The ginger, pepper, lavender and patchouli were my main impressions
It certainly has good longevity… 12 hours later it’s still there as an echo with a mellow mix of sweetness, spices and forest notes
For me, the way it develops makes it a great daytime fragrance. It’s a wake up call when you apply it ,then softens to become more wearable in a crowd. It’s very different to anything else I’ve smelled – For me this is a plus – And it lasts
It’s too early to say if I will tire of it quickly, but I do know its a keeper. 8.5/10 from me
Hats off to the perfumer! This is a unique, clever and elegant creation

very nice soft truly blue but not in aquatic way.
it is fresh and smells like the smell you get while strolling in wet forest.

first off i am a fan of the original issey miyake, when i seen issey bleue i imagined a more aquatic brighter version of the original, so i bought it.. unfortunately theres is nothing blue or aquatic about issey bleue its actually extremely woody.. more green than blue and not in a good way… actually more of a brown than green because i get more of a burnt autumn leafy kind of vibe instead of a grassy vibe, this stuff should honestly come with a warning label stating
“do not wear unless you’re 35+ years of age”
this does indeed smell like “old man” its not necessarily a bad smell but it is nearly impossible for a younger person (25 and under) to pull off.
my final thoughts on issey bleue…
if u are 35+ and enjoy smokey burnt leafy woody fall/winter fragrances, then by all means buy this.. this is about as woody as it gets…
if you are a younger man and enjoy aquatics like aqua di gio, nautica voyage, bvlgari aqua marine etc… i would strongly suggest u do not waste your money on this because an aquatic it is not… not a horrible fragrance but not a good one either

This is way more citrus oriented than other people here have voted and suggested. Also while others have stated it’s not a blue, but a green fragrance…that’s not correct. It is in fact both a blue fragrance and a green fragrance combined in one.
The sillage and strength are not nuclear or overpowering by any means. They are also not instantly gone in a poof. It’s average on application. Average in duration.
This Does in fact hearken to Issey DNA, it’s quite reminiscent of l’eau d’issey intense. Not out of place compared to the original. A fair bit different however.
That said, this isn’t as breathtaking, powerful, interesting, or unique as it may sound. between this and issey intense I’d get the intense. Here we have more of a green cypress/orange/ginger/juniper direction.
I bought 2.5 OZ, Glad I bought it, glad I bought that size because I have Issey intense already.

    Surprisingly nice.
I almost never reach for this one, but wore it yesterday, and got two unsolicited compliments (made my day)!
This goes on very herbal and green with the strong presence of juniper, but as it wears on my skin the resinous amber becomes more of a player.
This fragrance is smooth and blends with my skin chemistry effortlessly.
    Excellent projection and longevity.

This fragrance smells oddly like a spicerack on a shed in the middle of a forest full of cypress trees during the rain. Issey Miyake as a fragrance house makes very unique Japanese fragrances, and this is no exception. Don’t be fooled by the blue theme of the bottle, this is a green fragrance. It smells of cypress and is extremely spicy, with rosemary and pink pepper being very prominent to my nose. Sillage is strong while longevity is also strong. Due to the strong sillage and spicy nature of the fragrance, I think this would be great in fall and winter. The bottle for this is also one of the best I’ve ever seen, with blue glass. Overall this is a really interesting fragrance that I think people would like if they enjoy fragrances like Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb.

a lonely walk through an urban greenway, misty rain coating the conifers and rosemary bushes surrounding you while your travel mug of citrus-flavored green tea steams up toward your nostrils.
10-12 hours on my skin, projects quite strongly. don’t buy blind, but this scent is one of the most beautiful, melancholy fragrances i’ve ever had the pleasure of smelling. get your nose on it
(interesting aside, i don’t get the sense of much l’eau d’issey dna, but if i smell my skin between hour 3 and 4, i smell a smooth and serene citrus. like a stripped down, non-floral, non cat-peeish l’eau d’issey. odd, and your mileage may vary. this might just be some sort of olfactory fatigue causing this sense, because the wafts i get the whole time include aromatic herbs and coniferous smells with only a secondary tinge of ginger and citrus)

It’s my early love,I first use it 2005 , at that time its my favorite use it only on special occasion, for me like heaven, green woody . Gradually when I come across TF,creed, bond no9, blue became average performer, I still likes it for daily use 6.5-10 , present formulation has strength issues

Great juice with great longevity ang sillage. Very sharp and harsh opening (excluding that scent from “scents for heat”) turns into very plesant woody-marine fresh scent, almost “sporty”. Fresh but unique.
(Not for everybody because opening is very herbal, strong and harsh.)

Hey Mitchsmellsreal…..to your question. No. I think you can’t compare these two. The intense starts with orangy citruses, eau bleu has hoewer a very, I mean VERY green rosemary opening…..as you can see the notes are – apart from some similarity – also different. Unfortunately this scent nowdays has a weak longevity and sillage, formerly it was beast mode. It’s a very unique scent….it worth trying, but it demands an open attitude. Intense is much safer.

    Hi all my fellow fragranticans!
Please help me out… does this fragrance smell similar or have any resemblance to L’Eau D’Issey Intense? I would like to know any thoughts… thanks! 🙂

If there’s one scent I know, it’s L’Eau Bleue. I wore this everyday for a year when it came out and was my signature at the time. I always thought it was a brisk, sharp distinctive fragrance. Since its been well over a decade when I owned a bottle, when I spotted it at Marshals for $18 on final clearance, I thought; why not?
Well, it has definitely been reformulated. While the surface has that juniper and rosemary bite I love so much, it fades quickly and becomes muted and muddled. While the vintage version lasts forever, this one becomes whisper soft after 30 minutes.
In general terms Bleue is still a nice brisk masculine scent, it just used to be a lot more sharp, daring and distinctive, it attracted a lot of attention and comments. This one is the clean smelling office safe imposter version. Nice smelling, but thats about it.
