I turn to this frag when I just don’t give a fook

Edit 10/20/18: This has grown on me even more, it’s a very dark and almost macabre scent. Brings to mind a very well traveled, well read elder Goth man who likes to listen to Joy Division and KMFDM while cruising around in an old hearse and smoking clove cigarettes. He may or may not be into BDSM.
I like to layer it with Poison.. it gives a nice undercurrent of that seductively resinous depth and kick. A bit androgynous for me since I’m a woman but I don’t care if anyone else likes it anyway. I’m considering buying my own bottle to see if I love it as much as this mini we have.
    OP:
I stole a few drops from a mini splash bottle of this (completely full) which belongs to my fiance. It has to be at least 20 years old because it came in a set of minis (Grey Flannel, Maxims pour homme which is also very nice, Adolfo classic gentleman, and Bowling Green) the box to which is very old and rusted. The juice is a deep ambery brown color, nothing like the clear liquid in the pictures of bottles of it on here.
The bottle itself is pretty unassuming, but I learned long ago not to judge a fragrance by its packaging. Still, I imagine a more generic soapy-clean scent from a bottle like this from the late 80’s for some reason.
At first it’s very sharp, almost soapy, and a bit off putting.. so perhaps the top notes have gone bad over time. But then, on my skin it develops into such a nice and smokey, honeyed rose and incense with a hint of tobacco.. I adore it and it reminds me a lot of the drydown of vintage Dior Poison. I know it’s supposed to be a men’s frag but I don’t care, I love love love it. And honestly I think it is quite unisex due to the sweet honey rose accord. A hidden gem in my humble opinion.. longevity and sillage are beastly, as described by previous reviewers. Towards the end it smells faintly of a freshly opened pack of cigarettes.
I don’t know if they still make this, and I’m sure it has been reformulated somewhere down the line if they do so maybe I’m just lucky to have stumbled upon a bottle of the vintage. The man in my life has come to appreciate it a bit more also, so we will both be wearing it.. if he doesn’t want it all for himself, that is.

This is a strong and beautiful fragrance. My father wore this in the 80’s along with other expensive powerhouse fragrances from that era. He wore Givenchy Pi, Aramis, and other gorgeous and expensive fragrances that I still love to this day. For me, this is a timeless male fragrance. It bespeaks male to me.
I adore these fragrances that were made to be smelled. Nothing watered down here!

    This is so beautifully good.
It has an uncanny ability to glue my nose to my wrist.
It’s a deep pineapple sweet, patchouli, citrus opening, with elements of Kouros Civet fresh Wee on a mossy pine tree.
The drydown is pure class, smooth sweet,
    Delicious.
My bottle however lacks the beast staying power but there is definitely some beast in the mix.
It’s inexpensive and a must try, (even just for an 80’s flashback)

Powerful honeyed Kouros-like fragrance. Lovely stuff!

Smells the powderness of Body Kouros after the Fresh Citrus notes subside and the powderness is accompanied by sweetness of Honey and a hint of a dirty note that i cannot define with some fruity accord. While Body Korous powderness is accompanied by smokiness of incense and Vanilla that’s not as sweet as Honey or fruity as Ted Lapidus Pour Homme. It Sticks to you like no other fragrance would…you gotta shower to wash it off…which I like About this Scent (And That’s the Reformulated Version);)

The opening is pretty off-putting, but the drydown is very pleasant. I don’t think modern guys in their 20s can pull this off easily. It’s more suited for guys in their late 30s. However as a young guy I do wear this every now and then when im planning to stay indoors on a cold day.
    scent: 7/10
    longevity: 11/10
    Projection: 10/10
    sillage: 9.5/10

I was a 14yrs old when it came out…I remember the guy, that wore that scent,(beginning of the 90′,when I was driving to school by bus,and I know that it was that perfume, because he told me so.Many, many years later,I decided to purchase it,but I didn’t get that smell, that I remember….It could be a number of reasons…different type of skin, reformulation,my nose captures differently…anyway,I like the scent a LOT!When I want to catch that late 80′ powehouse vibe,I grab that from my shelf. It is definitely not for every day,for every occasion,(it is unusual for todays standards)(but no outdated like paco rabanne pour homme!)more for special events, and nights…even then, sometimes, there are months between two applying. And I must say that it is one of the strongest perfumes that I’ve tried!I can not understand, how someone can say that it lasts 2 hours??It’s impossible!Beast mode on the hardest way(longevity and projection)…I will always keep it in my collection. And yes, definitely male scent! And not for kids!No unisex!I love the 80′!

For some reason I don’t seem to get the beastmode performance everybody talks about. I get about 2-3 hours before basically vanishing. On clothes however, it does seem to do better. I’ve sprayed it on a v-neck once and could smell it days later. I had to put my nose fairly close to it but it was there.
Anyway, I could be going noseblind or I could have a bad/old bottle, I’m not sure, but for me the performance has been fairly lackluster. I always spray a bit on my clothes when I wear it though (I don’t like doing this but I will if I have to).
The fragrance itself, however, is great. It *definitely* took time to grow on me, I wasn’t much of a fan at first. In fact, I hated it lol.
It’s very old school, very masculine with a slight urinal cake vibe but there’s just something about this that’s strangely alluring and addictive. Women 40 years and plus seem to really like on me too (when they can smell it.)
I’m 32 and this could easily be a contender for my signature if the performance was better. And that’s saying something because I’ve got some gems in my collection, old and new school.
    All in all:
Scent: 9/10 (but definitely not for everyone)
    Sillage: 6/10
    Longevity: 3/10

Well, this is one of the strongest fragrances I ever sprayed. It’s remarkable, people will notice your presence so be gentle with the sprays. I personally like it, event it was created in 1987, but the creation was modern for its times and futuristic.I love the pineapple note in this and the way the honey mix with tobacco notes. The opening is a little harsh, but after 15 minutes it will settle down as an aromatic scent, very pleaseant. I like this one and it will be great in fall/winter. Had 2 bottles until now, one from the 90s and the other one recent batch and still performing great.

Another great fragrance from house of Lapidus, received my bottle yesterday,i did not like the opening but later it turns into something really classic 80’s that is really different from any other fragrance on the market,,longevity is more then good for EDT version but sillage is not that strong, only at the begining is strong but very fast become skin scent and can last for hours on skin and shirt,,,For the price i m more then happy,
    Sillage 7/10
    Longevity 9/10
    Projection 8/10
    Best for cold weather

a massive dose of bracing fresh aromatic lavender mixed with an equaly massive dose of syrupy lemon bergamot giving a fruity vibe, then comes in patchouli and amber in s chypre base.
I thought it smellt a bit odd at first time wearing it, it smellt super retro, but it grew on me fairly quickly, and combine this 80’s power scent with the very affordable price and it has quickly become one of my favorite go-to scents for casual and daily use.
It’s pretty incredible. Definitely one of the power scents in the aromatic fougere category, and I like it.

Purely on a value for money scale this is easily the greatest scent you can buy, a beautiful honey, rose and mint firecracker that performs way above its price tag

This is a harshly smelling chemical exercise that takes plenty of time before settling into a nicely smelling chemical experiment. It has somewhat soapy character with animalic undercurrents. Great honeyed chypre scent, cheap synthetic smell.

Put it this way..you don’t wear Ted Lapidus Pour Homme, it wears you!
Personally I think it’s a wonderfully well blended fragrance, stunningly complex, but extremely polarizing.
It’s in the same ball park as things like vintage Kouros, Hugo Boss No. 1 and a Vesace L’omme(but way superior IMHO) extremely animalic and with certified POWERHOUSE credentials.
It has extreme projection so go east on the trigger with this potent juice.
Another masterpiece for me but not for everyone’s liking.
A must try for any serious fragrance enthusiast and for the price it’s an utter bargain!

The dry down smells identical to Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree, but with a stronger backbone deep in the base. Really impressed for the $15.00 I paid for it.

  20. :

    5 out of 5

If there is any fragrance which smells like it came out of the 80’s I would nominate Lapidus pour Homme for a top contender.
I get a hefty fruity citrus combined with floral, and some dry patchouli incense in the background. It is not a musky smelling scent or animalic smelling at all though.
I think it’s ok, and it’s definitely something interesting to wear, but it’s not as wonderful as some of the others from the time which I like more. I do like this though an it is actually kinda addicting.
On it’s website, Lapidus actually lists this as a woody amber, with top note of lavender and bergamot, with a chypre base of incense, patchouli, sandalwood and musk.
It does come out with sort of a buttery ambery scent in the end.
I actually think this smells pretty good. It has a large dose of lavender freshness upfront, combined with the fruity citrus gives it a unique scent. It’s actually quite cheerful and uplifting. and I smell some patchouli incense in the background giving contrast and strength. Yeah there is a lot of incense and dry patchouli. It does have a bit of a retro scent, but I like that.
I have read from others about how this is the strongest most powerful scent ever, super macho, etc., but I don’t think so. It’s in the middle of the range, well maybe middle+, just under some of the other strong ones, and quite wearable, but it still is no weakling, and lasts a while.

Bought from the recommendation’s of Lex Ellis. Thinking it was going to be animalic but I don’t get any of that. Smells like my aunt and uncle’s guest bathroom in the 90’s. Soapy, clean, sweet, incense, powdery and green. It’s really been mash together to create a melting pot of notes which make it extremely intoxicating. I agree with what others have said about it being very masculine. But I don’t get that sweaty note that is in something like Kouros which this often gets compared to. This definitely a fragrance that puts you in a good mood. A must buy at this price range

Everyone dislikes opening but it is my favorite part, very intoxicating, animalic citrus incense i wished it lasted longer but it’s definitely not a linear scent.
Lasts ages projection for 5 hours solid. I blindbought it, because of reviews that it’s similar to Kouros but it’s not necessarily. Yes honey, yes animalic but it is sweeter than kouros and definitely greener on my skin i smell all the way pine, which i am not a fan of. But in Lapidus i fancy that alright. Wear it, treasure it, don’t let it be discontinued.
    Living Legend!

Testing today a clear glass mini with partly evaporated contents.
WOW nice, I get a soft sweet patchouli but much more. Does not smell fake at all. Amber, conifers and incense but NICE incense. Smokey lavender coming through and cedar yes too. Lovely old school romantic. Manly yes but I would wear it too.

Like a ghastly specter from your darkest nightmare, this 80’s powerhouse has returned from the grave seeking vengeance. I thought I had banished it to the blackness of the abyss for good, but nay, it was only for an epoch. This potent elixir was concocted by the devil himself with the most exotic and forbidden of ingredients. I am reaching the end of my strength, as the madness contained within this dark artifact threatens to consume me. I cannot merely throw this adamantine tonic in the rubbish heap, lest some unwary passerby become transfixed by its lightless glow. No, I must only give this to one with the courage to look into the bloodshot eyes of insanity, and the strength to master it. A wizard with the cunning to master this beast gains an ally of unspeakable power: the ultimate machismo powerhouse with the prowess to seduce even the purest hearted maidens. I don’t know how much longer l can withstand the burden of carrying this pheromone upon my mortal vessel, but until my dying breath, I will give warning to those who dare to face the dark aura: Beware Lapidus Pour Homme!

What can i say about this one??, ohh yes this one is an amazing juice, a bomb that transports me back to the 80s, i was very very young back then, i was born in 1984 and i still remember this scent at the end of that decade and the start of the 90s. I like it, i love how it projects, the drydown, the sillage, and the performance, and i have to say that this juice is not a nice scent, it is a very DARK, KIND OF GOTHIC, SAD SCENT, it reminds me of funeral homes, cemeteries, old church buildings and dead corpses but i LOVE IT, its a scent that i love, and why?? i dont know. This is a fragrance that Dracula would use… This one is not for the delicate pussy modern millennial metrosexuals that love garbage fragrances like one million, invictus, JPG Ultra Male etc…. This one is for real men with eccentric taste….
    i give this one overall a 9/10…
This one is for the classy, eccentric gentleman !

Opens with an aroma chemical dependent accord that smells like a classic neroli-dominate Eau De Cologne the way the synthesizers on The Eurythmics ‘Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)’ sound like a string section. The mid and base are honey over woods, tobacco and patchouli with some latent floral accords fluttering around. Aromatic fougere? Sorry to disagree with the seeming consensus. The Lapidus site calls it a woody amber chypre, which is more in line with my thoughts on it. I live in the PNW, a place that is usually sodden, mossy, and woody. I’ve had the strange experience of walking through my suburban neighborhood smelling the laundry soap/ softener smells emitted by various dryer vents merge over the damp woods and moss of a Cascadian rain forest and thought ‘Is that Lapidius I smell?’ I do really like it, though I don’t love it. It manages to be both a fragrance of its’ time (Antaeus, Xeryus, Boss 1, and Givenchy Gentlemen all precede it), and unlike most anything else out there (though I’ve always thought that Polo Sport, borrowed heavily from it, at least with its’ philosophy regarding synthetic openings). The honey can become a bit much and, like all Bogarts, it’s structural minimalism results in a kind of unrelenting effect whereby the closing accord becomes a bit too overwhelming to handle. It’s very well made though, and an excellent value. I remember in the late 80’s and early 90s JC Penny sold it, showcased along with Chanel Pour Monsieur, Witness, Lagerfeld Classic, Zizanie, Bowling Green, YSL Pour Homme, Grey Flannel….. times have surely changed. To me, a teenager, they seemed formal and chic, with Lapidus being the most formal, the most chic. Strangely, when I wear it to work it is consistently complimented by the opposite sex, the honey note revealing something a bit gourmand perhaps. 80/100.

Projection Beast, Good to wear on Winter Days. Too many Notes in this Perfumes but all Notes gell well with one another. Some people like perfume and some dislike it. I have my memories associated with it and like it on me in old winter days, This is my 3rd Bottle.
It opens with Citrus & Fruity & Few Mins latter Strong Notes of Honey & Honey & the base notes are Patcholi, Amber & Sweet Tabbacco. Opening is Little Harsh than its turns Little Bitter.

This is a gorgeous complex, refined, fantastic, beasty fragrance.
    Great for the night/cold weather.
I love it, my wife likes it. For me it’s an absolute masterpiece.
Upon initial spray, it comes on quite bold and classy. The notes are citrusy and fruity in the opening. Half a minute latter you receive an avalanche of notes including sweet honey, incense, and other well composed notes that lead you to love this fragrance. You feel like you are in the presence of a old massive train that is just throwing tons of lovable different notes that blend together like a symphony.
Its longevity is easily 14+ hours with 2 sprays. Don’t over spray or it may become intrusive to the people around you due to its heavy powerhouse sillage. You get a very lovable dry down with a very strong sweet tobacco note backed up by the inevitable amber and patchouli.
In terms of longevity it’s a beast and if you over spray (meaning more than 3 sprays) you will kill all the bugs around you and will end up smelling this masterpiece 24 hours and two showers later.
This EDT smells expensive and and in line with what you expect from a Lapidus/Bogart beasty fragrances.
It is indeed a very nice juice and one of a kind. It does not pretend to clone anything and I like it that way with its proper individuality.

Lapidus pour Homme comes across as a conventional 80s masculine built on a sandalwood-patchouli core, augmented by honey, and embellished with florals (rose) with one key difference: there’s a big slap of a fruity pineapple note. The pineapple persists well into the base and only stops being discernible right at the end.
I’m not a fan of fruity sweetness within a traditional classic masculine structure. Hence, Lapidus pour Homme is not for me. Otherwise, it’s a commendable, forceful composition with obvious virility and old school machismo.
Think of it as Aventus, but worn by Joe Pesci in Goodfellas. There you have the complete picture. Now, that would actually be some much-needed redemption for the Creed.

Probably the loudest fragrance in my collection. Fantastic pineapple, honey and patchouli with a hint of fresh, heady rose. this is a very masculine fragrance despite the rose. People will notice you wearing this – from a long way off and you will leave a trail of scent wherever you go. This works better sprayed on my clothes rather than my skin and it lasts all day and beyond. To me this one smells very, very clean, possibly because it is such an immersive fragrance. Go easy on the sprays as too much of this good thing may be offensive to some.

One of the absolutely most powerful scents ever, able to distill fear into human souls that are not aware of old school masculinity. This one is delicious; tropical pineapple punches out of the container, propelled by heavy smoke. Juiciness and sweetness enshrouded in a smouldering, gritty landscape. There is not a single weak moment in the development, it remains coherent and visionary throughout. A stone-faced 80’s action cassette in fragrance form.

  45. :

Very strong, generic and synthetic smell. I got a new bottle from a reputable mortar & brick store, so it is not a fake. I can’t stand the smell of it. In fact not one single friend I asked about it liked it. I had to give away a full bottle. If this is a “cheap gem” as many call it, so this one is just not for me !

Hmmm … this was a surprise.
Finally sampled this famous 80s scent last week. Based on members’ positive reviews and my love of deep dark 80s powerhouse scents I was sure I would like this. First … while ‘strength’ and ‘projection’ are considerations … they’re secondary to the scent itself, which is where I find myself unmoved by this fragrance. It’s fruity, no doubt- not something that endears me like other darker, woodier, or spicier scents from the same era. It is interesting though, and after the initial honey/pineapple top notes one can feel the woods, amber, rose and tobacco slowly evolve. While harmonious enough, it doesn’t settle into a base that I find myself even remotely enjoying. I might feel differently about a vintage bottle, but in short I’m not feeling the olfactory genius that I was hoping for. Objectively this might be a great composition, but subjectively, LPH doesn’t take me where I want to go.

  49. :

    3 out of 5

Firstly, I can say that if this is not the most complicated fragrance that I have ever smelled, then it is definitely one of the most complicated.
It has a touch of everything. It is very smoky, opens with a fruity aroma that can be triksy and does not last long. Woody, with a green aspect always in the background, failling to win the battle with the “heavier” notes.
Maybe for the time it was released, it could be considered even gourmand. Yes it reminds me a bit of food, spicy, oily food.
If you ask me “Is there a fragrance like Ted Lapidous Pour Homme?”, I’d tell you that it gives a vibe similar to One Man Show Gold Edition by Jacques Bogart. But as for the scent I think it takes a route similar to Ambre Imperial by Van Cleef and Arpels, which surprisingly has very different notes.
It performs well. It is long lasting but I think the projection is average. I have a tester bottle made in August 2016.

A couple of days ago I have purchased a full bottle from an authorized reseller. Since I do not know the original formulation from the 80’s, or whether it differs from the current one, I can only comment on the latest.
I love it. It has a better than average sillage and projection. I am not sure if it is a ‘beast mode’ or a ‘monster’ performance (probably not), but it is sufficiently enough, that’s for sure (seems like its ‘radiation’ parameters are similar to the current Kouros, or maybe due to the honey note presence, a little bit more powerful).
I have paid just 14 Euros for 100ml, which is a pretty good deal.
The bottle looks very good in real, even better than in most pictures.
The scent itself – if you like e.g. Oscar De La Renta’s Pour Lui or YSL Kouros (or maybe Boucheron PH and Boss no.1) there is a 99% chance you will love this one.
When tested in isolation (I mean if you only focus on sniffing the fragrance itself), it might be pungent or unpleasant for someone, but if you detect it on someone in a situation or in a complex atmosphere (e.g. in a club or a workplace), it can be a very different experience (like tasting spices straight, or in a soup 🙂
This is to be worn by mature men (maybe 40+) as an accompaniment to a great personality (the personality/scent rate should be at least 70/30 :-).
EDIT: I can easily wear 6 sprays of this, no issues so far.

Ted Lapidus is one of my first purchases in my fragrance journey. I bought this a little after my first bottle. (Which was Burberry Brit) Ted Lapidus is a creamy and well-blended super masculine scent. I think it stands among the others of its era proudly. It is so refined and the honey and pineapple are so prominent. I do not wear it often, but when I put it on, it’s a treat.

I use to have this perfume and i liked it but every-time i wear it I get mixed reviews both negative and positive. Its a winter wear night cologne. Some people likes it and give compliments but for some people its a pure headache and irritation.
You will love it if you are fond to Attar and Oriental old aged soapy fragrances. The silage and projection is very very heavy and strong i mean believe me it will stay on you unless you take a bath.
The base notes are very similar to Cotton Blue fragranted wet tissues.
DO NOT WEAR IT IN SUMMER OR YOUR BOSS WILL FIRE YOU!!!!!!

Right from the start, three notes are predominant to me: pineapple, wood, and an animalic note. That trio creates a very unique smell; the pineapple instills a sharp, bright accent to the wood notes. Simultaneously, the animalic accord makes is loud for the first 1-1.5 hours, which is the ‘sexy’ aspect about Lapidus pour Homme.
The drydown is dominated by a mild incense note.
Performance: 4-6 hours of noticeable projection
Setting: any (one of the most versatile scents I have)
    Sprays: 3-4 at most
Con: I wish this had better longevity although it still performs quite decently

4 sprays !! man… Beware of over spraying Lapidus PH.. this is a bomb H frag not a powerhouse.. One spray and you will enjoy a daring and extreme late 80’s oriental fougere, more than two and you’ll have to endure a 14 hours demonic attack from the angry god of fragrances.. “handle with caution” should be printed on the bottle…

I’ve been intrigued by the diverse opinions about this perfume, and wanted to check it out for myself. However, it’s not easy to come by in India. So when I saw it in Dubai during a holiday recently, I picked up the bottle without even testing it. I wore the first few sprays (4 to be precise) today evening. These are initial reviews.
The fragrance is very strong and almost suffocated me, making me gasp for air. It has a very strong sweat smell, similar to that a person has in a overcrowded place on a hot and humid day. The sweat note is tempered to some extent by an incense-like layer, but the overall effect is still sour and acrid. It’s been around two hours since I sprayed it on, and the smell still is searing my nose. I guess it will last at least 4-6 hours and project well.
At this moment, I am not certain about my opinion yet. May be few more days will tell. My wife, unfortunately, hated it from the word go, and has forbidden me to wear it.
So only time will tell the fate of this one.
EDIT AS ON 07 MARCH 2017
I’ve had the opportunity to wear this a few more times now. And I’m smitten! It has animalic, incense and patchouli notes, which really work well together. It’s a definite keeper.

This frag has a very solid, masculine presence to it. Worth every penny I spent on it.

i think its more anamalic than people give it credit for…its hardly mentioned and im the type who smells everything…its super complex obviously the formula, hence the overwhealming effects and strength of this even with 1 spray…anyway i smell animal..funk..in the backround and we all know here that funk can really drive and push forward aromatics…lol…just my bit on this great, powerfull scent,,,upon further review its 8.8/10…ps..what pineapple??lol..smh…..this scent truly is all over the place with how folks percieve this aroma..gooday

Average at best. Not the powerhouse so many claim (I have latest formulation). Maybe the vintage is amazing but this latest form is nothing special. I get no pineapple, mostly tobacco, leather and some sweetness. The longevity and sillage is below average. The scent becomes stale on my skin within 2 hours like a moldy basement… but the first 2 hours are decent, just need to refresh often to avoid the horrible drydown. This often is compared to the legend Kouros as both being powerhouses. Nope! Frankly there is no contest! Kouros kicks the living sh-t out of Lapidus Pour Homme in all categories… notes, masculine scent, base notes, drydown, longevity, sillage and projection. LPH does not even last on my clothes. It’s the only so-called “powerhouse” that won’t even last on my shirt! Kouros will literally last for days on my shirt waiting in the laundry basket to be washed. I’m very disappointed in LPH because I had high hopes after reading all the hyped reviews on this page and watching videos on Youtube from guys calling it “The best scent of all time” and all that nonsense. Sure, maybe the vintage is where it’s at, but the 2014
