One of the most magnificent fragrances I’ve ever had. I thank I haven’t seen a bottle since late 1980s.Impodoble to get it here in Uruguay

Stunning! Possibly my favorite of the animalic chypre genre. Strong and long-lasting, this has all of my favorite notes in classic fragrances.. oakmoss, civet, leather, honey, rose.. sooo beautiful, of course it’s discontinued though so now I’m going to have to stock up.. this will be the first fragrance I buy back-ups of, it’s THAT good! Total 80s perfection, opulent and grandiose, sweet and womanly and yet a touch masculine..
The opening blast is very very chypre–dry and green. Then it begins to quickly unfold into a rich furry honey sweetness with tons of sexy pheromones. So complex and so strong, one spray was almost overwhelming… I love that in a fragrance! It’s hard to find a good beastly fragrance because my skin just devours perfume, so I appreciate the tenacity of La Nuit! I spritzed my wrist this morning and have since taken a shower and applied a different perfume and yet I still detect whiffs here and there. Love it!
This review is for the EDP, by the way. I doubt I will be trying the EDT.. the EDP is perfection.

I’ve adored this fragrance from the very first time I met ir. Í bought it twice or perhaps 3 times to wear it in fall-winter and in the Night back in the 80s but was never able to find it here in Uruguay any more since…Lucky you…

    Honey dew animalic powdery blend.
This fragrance is quite vintage and in an artistic way, it has that civit sweetened by honey, powdery with oakmoss and slight peaches, could be considered leather somehow but mostly juicy animalic and powdery. Citrus bunch, and slight roses are there too.
I never thought that Paco Rabanne would create something perfect like this! i believe this should be Marilyn Monroe’s fragrance, but i believe it fits “Hedy Lamarr” more, & “Col. William Tavington” character.
“Maai” has nothing in common with this fragrance at all, on the other side, “Dryad” has quite big similarity with “La Nuit”. “Dryad” doesn’t have that honey dew, but has an extra rooty animalic added to it within it’s vintage take.

I just opened my boxed of La Nuit, and these are my stream of consciousness thoughts about her:
My lord, welcome to the MoFo of all chypres. This is the strong willed, sensual, slightly perverse and perverted sister of vintage Kouros. This smells raunchy, deep, carnal, clean and dirty, opulent, decadent. This is the smell of sex in the abstract.
This is a civet and honey bomb. This roars. Loudly. One spray filled the room. This has nuclear sillege and projection.
I am impressed and at a loss of words.
    Smell great my friends.

I received this perfume as a gift when I was invited to my very first fashion show. Paco Rabanne presented his collection in Berlin after the wall came down. I still cannot believe I happen to sit in the second raw – right behind the master himself.
This is what La Nuit is for me, one of my greatest Memories. When I opened the bottle for a first sniff I was shocked. I’ve never smelled such a complex perfume before, a completely new category of fragrance to me at this time – somewhat extraterrestrial like the immense tall exotic beauties on the cat walk.
I just used La Nuit at home to enjoy it by myself – I didn’t dare to leave the house with this scent on, silage was far too heavy. Probably I was too shy or too young to understand this composition. I keep this in my collection, but still don’t wear it. It belongs to a past millennium and is considered vintage now.

I purchased two ” La Nuit ” in eau de toilette, and I regret it, it doesn’t smell like the eau de farfam I once tested, It is super light, as sheer as a Cologne, I think they had to call it Eau de Cologne! The edp is another story, it contains all the goodies you read in the description up there. In my bottles of edt, I only detect honey+Lux soap, thats it, no offense, but maybe they wanted it to be that light. And keep in mind that my bottles are from pre-barcode era, it means from the early productions. I’m looking for an edp now, as this is a must for any Chypre fan, but please please start only with edp.

This is the Chypre T-Rex of the big Chypres in the 80s. In its genre we had Paloma Picasso (more floral) Diva a honeyed rose feminine civet sexy siren, Montana – an angular sharp in your face leathered neon damascone rose, Knowing the Estee Lauder Classy Chypre of florals on a bed of oakmoss, and then the dark gothic cousin of an evolved Mitsuoko-TRex of the 80s Chypres-La Nuit.
The green artemesia and bitter fruit with the aged oakmoss base lurches to the start, a fusty opening much like the opening of Mitsuoko or Parure. Your in the mossy forest at night and Magie Noire seems like the junior league compared to La Nuit.
A honeyed jasmine oily rose on a bed of moss. The pepper adds an elegant spice and turns into the leather patchouli. The powdery musks and animalic civet add a growl through the formulation to add a lived in warmth. This is so out of step with 2017 sensibilities and yet, there is a richness, primal intrigue about it.
You just dont put a toe in the water with La Nuit. You are all in or all out. You drench yourself in it and watch it roar and transcend into a warm fur coat meant to only be worn at night. However at my age, Id rock it in the day to shake up the joint. Guaranteed head turner. Vintage edp reviewed

One night of humid summer, cross a leafy road, in the sticky wind, under the shadow of soft and soapy flowers dripping a slow scent, oily, primitive. From the few houses come some oblivious different messages. Now is the wave of a double bass that lazy plays in some room in the dark. Now instead from the obscurity of a garden, where living trunks burnt by the day resting balsamic, is someone who aspires tobacco from a pipe or a cigar, which tells us of ancient things. Further on, from an open window, a faint light rains on wooden and red armchairs around; glimpsed a woman still in her bathrobe, hair wet, she started to read a book; we guesses the title, a noir is La Nuit by Paco Rabanne.
Histoire d’Amour by Aubusson is similar, more sparkly.

What a masterpiece of Oriental chypre glory!
La Nuit (The Night) represents a time when fragrances for both men and women were ultimately unisex because of their depth & complexity, their artistry & elaborate detail. Every note is perfection in this cologne. This was selling through the 80’s and I bought it after smelling it on my lawyer in a firm (a lady) who wore it. I thought it smelled like a man’s cologne in the same vein as Opium by Yves Saint Laurent, Coco Eau de Parfum by Chanel & Magie Noire by Lancôme. To me fragrances do not come with genitals or gender, a scent or collection of scents/notes are neither feminine or masculine. Fragrances are only marketed to men & women but fragrances transcend the limitations of gender and are made for all and universal. If you like a fragrance, that’s your fragrance. Paco Rabanne when they hired the best talent in the business. The nose behind this scent is Rosendo Mateu & I love his work. This fragrance captivated me. After the aforementioned lawyer noticed I was wearing it, she didn’t like it & changed her perfume. It was like out of a sitcom because neither of us ever talked about it. She was a very skilled and just professional who defended me in court over a matter that I won’t discuss on here.
La Nuit opens with citrus including a tangerine but rather than coming off as astringent citrus or aftershave, the citruses are fresh and alcoholic in the old school style before they pass into the spiciness of this fragrance’s early performance. Right away I could smell artemisia & pepper, perhaps coriander, and basil. These are mainly spicy scents, which are clearly unisex. This scent does not smell floral or sweet, it has no gourmand deliciousness nor extra fruited flavors. There is a Gothic, brooding, dark & dismal air to this fragrance. It makes me think back to English Lit Class, a scent suggestive of Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights; it is a night in the Moors of Northern England, the setting for Bronte’s tragic novel. Chilly winds & ominous clouds over dark woods. This is a fragrance of a deep forest in the midnight hour. It’s woodsy notes are dominant & they smell like cedar, moss & birch. The woods in this cologne are decidedly masculine. There is nothing sweet or powdery about this fragrance. It dates back to a time when women had no problem wearing something this woodsy.
At the heart is a beautiful honeyed rose, almost identical to the big honey & rose pairing in Ungaro’s Diva but because this is so much more spicier & muskier with civet secretion, leather, patchouli and woods, the whole thing is earthier, greener & more rugged than the feminine Diva. A jasmine note accompanies the rose & honey. Sweet just for a moment. The florals are so small that one wonders why they even bothered to include them as notes at all. But I’m glad they did. The honey note is delectable & the rose is absolutely fantastic. This rose smells a bit like the singular warm spicy rose in such scents as Frederic Malle’s Portrait of A Lady, or the rose note in Chanel Egoiste. Before long, the fragrance dries and leaves behind the citrus & spices & florals, settling down to the aromatic patchouli, dark woods and a hell of a lot of musk. This thing came with civet and though it’s hard to tell if it’s real or not, the musk is a praiseworthy note. The animalistic air to this cologne is engaging. It reminds me of the warm musk in Paloma Picasso. There is even leather and that provides this scent with more musk than was usual for a woman’s perfume. At times it reminded me of Musc Ravageur but this fragrance came first.
Far from any Paco Rabanne fragrance that sells today. Paco, man, what the hell happened ? How did we go from this amazing work of art in perfumery to 1 Million & Black X and all that trash. Please go back to the old formulas that used to throw out such a sublime aroma of real perfume. This comes off as outdated today & of course it is rather strong, but one does not have to bathe in it. I like to smell this on myself & no one likes it on me but who gives a damn what others like. What counts if what you like. This is an expensive smelling & grandiose Oriental musk & woods scent. Incredible longevity – all day and the next – sillage & warmth. Suited to winter time or autumn, when leaves change color and when a cold air comes in. This is like a cape of musk and a woodsy embrace.
While I may not be as poetic as the previous reviewer Ms. Lucia Lawson, I do understand how this fragrance can evoke the beauty of the night, and how mysterious & alluring it is. This fragrance can indeed work well on women who love to wear Magie Noire (the only scent it’s closest to) and wear black evening gowns, dark clothing, Goth fashions. This is a witchy & wondrous fragrance that I wish could come back. You can still find this cologne online on ebay and other sites that specialize in hard to find discontinued treasures.
I am wearing this fragrance in December because it’s musk warms me up & this has always been such a winner to me. I can’t believe Paco Rabanne won’t reformulate it or re-issue it at least as a similar but lighter Eau de Toilette edition. La Nuit is a superb unforgettable scent, composed as a masterpiece of dark hues: midnight blue, black, deep purple, and dark brown. his is a nocturnal creature of confidence & mystery. La Nuit is sexy, seductive, bewitching. Any woman wearing this will get anything she wants and go far in life. Any man wearing this has great taste in fragrances.
    Bravo Mateu!

This is the only Paco Rabanne fragrance I have ever worn. And you want to know something? This is the greatest of any of the Rabanne fragrances and blows any of their current or recently issued fragrances out of the water. This perfume is so incredible. La Nuit is meant to evoke a night in an Oriental garden, redolent with honeyed florals, leather, woods and musk. Every note is like a star in the sky at night. I want to cry sometimes just thinking how fragrances like this don’t exist anymore. No one is even thinking the same way they used to, when perfume was perfume. I just sigh & feel fortunate to have actually worn fragrances like this in my lifetime.
La Nuit, from a distance, might come off as an Oriental of the 80’s when fragrances like this were being made as if from the same cloth. This perfume reminds one of Magie Noire by Lancôme & Paloma Picasso. This perfume, however, is so much more than a label. “Oriental”, “1980’s”, do you think that’s all there is to perfume? In fact, the noses behind this scent were inspired by Schiaparelli Shocking, which is a beautiful fragrance. There is a little nod to Coco Eau de Parfum by Chanel as well; so of course it was going to sell. She is extraordinary, a scented nightingale, a ravishing creature of the night.
My 2nd husband (my worst) who betrayed me with a blonde, and who absolutely abhorred my Magie Noire, thought of this perfume as suitable for a harlot. He used to come up to me and smell the perfume on my collarbone and said “This perfume is not suggestive of your personality at all & it smells like a man’s cologne, so why would you wear this?”. But he was a dolt. What did he know about perfume? What did he know about how this fragrance, with it’s exoticism and intoxicating scent could whisk me away from him and into a world of bigger & better things?
I should have been a novelist. When I wore epic Oriental fragrances like this one, my imagination was ablaze. Mmm. This perfume conjures up images of crescent moons, owls perched on branches, dark woods, cypress, pines, lonely roads. In fact when I first analyzed this scent it made me think of the Appian Way in Italy – at night. If this perfume came with a more attractive & creative bottle (the packaging was lackluster) of my own design I would have had a painting like VAN GOGH’S STARRY NIGHT, or of the Appian Way at night under a crescent moon. Inhale this scent and you will see what I mean. It takes you by the hand into a realm of night, with myriads of stars and a romantic darkness. She is rather “Goth”, witchy, sinister but beautiful. I have performed as the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s opera Die Zauberflote The Magic Flute & yes, La Nuit by Paco Rabanne matches up with her character. She is a songbird who descends from a dark cloud and she is perched on a crescent moon.
Notes include citruses, basil, tangerine, peach & honey; each note is never too fruity or tropical i.e. think the peach & sweet citrus note in Coco Eau de Parfum. This is lemony and fresh to provide it with a top note lift and oomph, as it can’t start off dry or dark. She starts off like the sunset, and you can still smell sweet scents of fruit & spice before they fade away and the night descends. A honeyed floral heart reveals night blooming jasmine, a rather enormous rose, made of red velvet petals. This part, the florals, is my favorite. Unlike other Orientals, including Coco, this perfume allows time for you to “smell the flowers”. This is one absolutely beautiful rose perfume. The rose is incredibly fragrant and lush, but spiced up, smoky, a rose on fire, with flames of incense. For the longest time I thought there was incense here but it was pepper & spices. They conjure up images of conflagration, of a forest fire. This is a warm scent.
Other notes consist of a very rich honey and honeycomb a tad like the honey notes in Krizia Teatro Alla Scala my signature scent; but here it’s sweetening up the jasmine. This is a pretty unique honey jasmine, never again will you find such a lovely pairing of honey and white jasmine. Once the fragrance is no longer floral, the nocturnal notes take over. A dark leather, decidedly masculine, rubbery & warm, emerges from the depths. There is also musk & an aromatic green oily patchouli. This portion of the fragrance – patchouli & what might come off as asafetida – is remarkably similar to Magie Noire. Bitter, green and vinegar in her aroma. In today’s context, this is far too outdated & oily. Perfume used to be more like a scented oil but now it’s something else isn’t it? I miss fragrances that were of natural extract & this is a very natural perfume, devoid of anything superficial. She is, however, rather sweet & unassuming, like a child’s painting of a night time setting.
This perfume becomes warmer and muskier as it dries &
it turns into a woods scent, 100 percent woods. As such this is not an Oriental perfume but a chypre. This is a very well crafted chypre. It was wearable in the 80’s but today it would smell like a man’s cologne or woman’s unisex perfume to wear on a night out to the theater, a dinner, you name it. But with a name and scent of black night, she can only be worn at night. This perfume is warm & wintery so like with perfumes of this nature, it would sour & turn ugly in spring. I only wore her in the cold evening winters in London. This perfume, like Magie Noire, was one of my (pardon my French) fuck off perfumes for whenever anyone, including the man I was married to, tried to disparage me or disrespect me. I never allowed him to belittle me or demean me, and though that divorce was one I will never forget for it’s painful process, it was perfumes like this that got me through it.
La Nuit is an incredibly gorgeous fragrance. I am seriously hurt by th fact it’s been discontinued and I can only wear the remaining contents of my last bottle. When I’m out of it, I cannot wear her again. This perfume is so powerful and makes me feel confident and young again. I will always cherish and love this fragrance. If you’re lucky enough to find her in a rummage sale, online, or anywhere, hang on to it for dear life. This is a million times superior to the garbage being issued by Paco Rabanne today like Million or Lady Million. This perfume is the real deal. The sillage, the longevity, the wildly remarkable unashamed muskiness, this was more than a perfume, it was an entire period of sundown to dawn in a bottle. She was the most romantic & most poetic homage to the night with stars & woods, darkness & lone wolves.
A fragrance such as this came but once in a lifetime.

I think it’s important to distinguish between if you have an EDP or EDT. There was a blog about La Nuit smelling like horse sweat. I love the smell of a sweaty horse. That’s the cowgirl in me.
The EDP does not smell like horse sweat however. Not even close.
Maybe they thought the basil would make it smell grassy? I didn’t smell any leather.
It smells powdery and mature. A little spicy and reminiscent of Givenchy Organza. It’s a nice fragrance, but not what I intended it for.
I am curious if the EDT smells more like horse sweat, and will look into it.

What would happen if vintage Nahema met vintage Magie Noire…..La Nuit, that´s what. WOW I LOVE LOVE this. Bourbon sweet honey amber civet, THEN flowers, greens too. Powder… but a RICH whipping cream powder. Sweet but soft too. Powerful but not heavy or strong. We are talking midnight blue cut silk. OMG take me now.

Edp in white bottle is totally different than the one in blue bottle ,but only in the beginning.
Had no idea until I received a sample of the blue one.
But , as the hours pass ,the beauty of Diva comes out of the perfume molecules .
Now I am really curious about the edt.
White = v strong Diva twin from the start.
Blue = much softer , oldish ,soapy ,Revson style fume (my guess is that this one is more dipending on the ph , while the other one does not change on different types of skin ,like most strong fumes ).
What to say ,perfume is sort of lottery 😀
Who knows which bottle came out first ?
P.S. After many hours of wearing the blue bottle sample : it has developed into a soft but noticeable mix of Diva + Eaudemoiselle. Not bad at all.
Next day ,morning , still there ,the beautiful soft Diva.
Am in love with it ,but as I already have the white bottle , no need to go for the blue one.
Ok , they both are twins of Diva.
Now , Fragrantica ,why won’t you accept Diva on the reminds me of list ?????????

Paco Rabanne’s The Night is a beautiful luxurious Oriental fragrance. I’m not usually into these type of unisex woodsy scents, or chypres, but my taste in fragrances have changed. This is straight out of the same fragrance family as Chanel’s Coco Eau de Parfum (vintage 1980’s edition) Paloma Picasso or Lancomes Magie Noire. Smells more like Paloma. It smells like a lot of things: orange, jasmine, honey, musk, civet, leather, woods and moss. It’s an evening cologne to wear with black clothes, sexy, mysterious, seductive. It’s mature, but not old lady ish. In fact it smells just like some of my school teachers when I was little. The woods are strong so you have to be into woods. But there’s something for everyone. I enjoy the feminine touches of honey and the florals: rose and jasmine. This is so amazing. It’s a bomb so I wear this only a few times for special occasions and only use a little bit dabbing it on the sides of my neck. I get many compliments on it. It’s amazing how Rabanne went from producing this masterpiece to something much less complex like Olympea. Both scents are good but this this is awesome.

I am seriously into vintage chypre perfumes having worn mitsouko & magie noire in the past. I read a review re this fragrance basically saying all paco rabanne’s creations since this little gem come nowhere near it. Having purchased a miniature 5ml eau de parfum I am seriously in love . Warm exotic an incredible dry down that envelops one’s olfactory senses.

Other 80s icon … amazing and gorgeous fragance, instensive, powerfull, alcoholic, sweet, misterious, addictic … like some whiskey or licquor . . . There are not much fragances that surprising like that … Armani for her 82, First, Coco -clasic- , Montana Parfum d Peau, Oscar de la Renta – then called Oscar- , Femme de Rochas . . .
Saddly Paco Rabanne s noses only produce XS and OneMillion and all of them similar and boring franchisies … Why this masterpiece are missing???

I love fragrances that evoke the night. This is one of them. Such a romantic elegant chypre perfume. It’s the kind of fragrance that I love to smell over and over while closing my eyes and inhaling the fumes. It evokes a Mediterranean evening in an Italian villa by the cliffs of Capri. I can smell the roses and jasmines but they’re not overpowering. This is a scent which is bigger on oak moss, patchouli, basil, woods, and civet musk. Unisex because of the citric top notes and the musky base note. Mature, elegant, confident, seductive. Mmmm. Love it.

    Just a few words:
Paco Rabanne should forget all the obnoxious Olympèas, Lady Millions, Black Excess…all these unremarkable flankers, clones of other already existing fragances and relaunch this absolute beauty. I cannot understand why on hell did they discontinue this wonder so soon. This was the ultimate perfume for the ultimate, seductive, powerful woman.
Put this close to the recent Olympéa and it is like to put Lauren Bacall or Rita Hayworth, one of those great, beautiful actresses of the silver screen, close to Hannah Montana, Britney Spears or someone like that…

I found quite a few bottles of “La Nuit” at an old souk in Lebanon:) some dusty and vintage and some in the newer box/font/bottle. I bought the dustiest one i could find lol.
After a few months of acquaintance i can review this goodie. First let me say i dont think La Nuit is very animalic, Bandit still wins hands down. La Nuit is another gorgeous oriental/chypre in the 80’s style, in the lineage of Paloma picasso, Knowing, and the 70’s Magie noire. Yet it’s warmer, the honey has a golden warm presence, mingling with a soft animalic vibe, and the glorious heady chypre moss, leather and oily florals.
I also don’t get the Roman orgy thing going on. Not very distinctive among the other fragrances i mentioned, but a well made one.

On my skin, this smells like an oily, sweet Cabotine de Gres.It is obviously the night version of Cabotine 🙂
And in the end it turns into a milder Diva.Voila ,an interesting trip.
My Gala is not similar to La Nuit.
This is for a mini which might be the edt (nothing written on the tiny bottle in a sampling set).
Now I’ve got the edp and it is twin of Diva.

-“Aye mate! She had the most breathtaking angles on her face and the most bewitching curves below it. And she did knew how to play and throw every single one of them!”
-“Gee man! Why didn’t you give me a ring?”

    -“What about it pal?”
-“It was as her scarf drenched in it was wrapped around my face, taking me slowly to oblivion and rendering me incapable of uttering a single word.”
-“How did it smell like chum?”
-“Dangerous, profane, sharp, dominant, and hollering “Dare me if you dare!” Like a feral animal’s den, which despite the dangers that might lurk inside, it makes you feel an irresistible impulse to enter it. Like nobody’s business!”
    -“Surely sounds like meaning business.”
-“She drunk a truckload, zeroed everyone in, smoked a carton and ripped her clothes off. Everybody, and I mean everybody, stood agape at her naked splendour!”

This was a blind buy for me, but what a surprise when I put it on and knew the smell. Back in the early 90’s I worked at Nordstrom and would smell this from time to time on the women who came in to shop.
It’s a heavy perfume with lots of civit, honey, and oakmoss. But that’s not all, there’s also a lot of leather, rose, jasmine, patchouli, and peppers too. It’s a rich, dense, beautiful and sexy fragrance from the 80’s..

I’m sorry for the good reviews….I left my EDP bottle outside in the living room ….The smell is dense, thick, annoying and very heavy. The bottle was with the cap on ….but we could still smell the fragrance everywhere….in a bad way.

First version edp. Fascinating, intoxicating scent. Golden, warm, herbal and acrid start. Later, a very long lasting witches’ brew dry down: deer foot, period blood, pungent rose and hot spicy honey. The imaginary texture is not thick but glowing and radiant like Chanel No.5.

Got a sample of this in the mail today. Wow! This is impressive stuff! Opening is all wood and smoke to me. Very heavy, a bit too strong for my taste. After the powerful opening that lasts about 20 minutes, soft leather comes in and some flowery-sweetness. No, I do not think this suits me, although it is an interesting scent. I imagine it could smell very attractive on the right person. Certainly worth a try, if you like woody, smokey, powerful fragrances.

Glorious! Must have for honey-civet combination lovers. A sister of Shocking Schiaparelli old EDC version, but Shocking’s civet clouds are flowing under narcissus fields, while in La Nuit big suedy rose grows in artemisia bushes..which adds to mildly sweet fragrance slightly bitter herbaceous taste. Its still honeyed-civet world, sensual, secretive, alternative reality to modern existence.

This does remind me of Soir de Lune by Sisley. Interesting that the time of day is both how they are titled. And it’s true, for me, Soir de lune is like the evening, whereas la Nuit, is darker, later, like ‘the night’. Both incredably sensual and rich.

Beautiful, soft, honeyed rose. I’m not sure what everyone else is smelling!!

Edt being reviewed. To me I feel this sits between Joy / Madame Rochas aldyhydics with strong jasmine Rose and Rose Chypres like Knowing,Diva, and La Perla.
    This smells more vintagey,somewhat m
