Description

The fashion designer Stella McCartney (the daughter of Paul and Linda McCartney) launches her second fragrance. The first one, Stella from 2003, had a lot of limited editions and flankers, so for 2012 an entirely new concept was finally developed – a fragrance named L.I.L.Y.. L.I.L.Y. is inspired by Stella’s memories of childhood and the estate in the countryside where she grew up.

Stella explains to wwd magazine the name of the fragrance: “It comes from my dad’s nickname for my mum: “Linda I love you”. The name is also from the lily of the valley ingredient — I love it as a flower, and so did my mum — it’s delicate, feminine, innocent. It was part of my bridal bouquet. But I also wanted to explore its darker, more masculine side. It’s a woodland flower and I wanted to capture the roots and the earthy side of it.”

The composition is developed by Jacques Cavallier of unusual notes of truffle on top, made from natural extracts, lily of the valley in the heart and of oak moss at the base, which represents the sexy and sinister contrast to the flower in the heart. All the notes were chosen by Stella herself, who wanted a clean and uncomplicated fragrance.

The bottle design is done in Art Deco style and it is a mixture of light and darkness, feminine and masculine. Crystal part of the bottle reminds of the old English vases, while the metal frame represents a modern and masculine edge.

The campaign, shot by David Sims, features the Polish model Malgosia Bela, who is 34 years old. Stella wanted the advertisement to show someone who is not too young and who does not wear much makeup.

L.I.L.Y. is available as a 10 ml roll-on, 30, 50 and 75 ml Eau de Parfum with an accompanying collection for body care.

As picky as I am when it comes to perfumes in general, I have to say I really like this one! Such a pity that it`s already disappeared from the market..I bought the last bottle available in my city..
I find it different somehow. There`s masculine pepper, soft notes of lily of the valley and musk, and something bitter (must be tuber?) however I get no oakmoss and barely any pink pepper. The musk is raw and dominant but the other notes appear first. It`s a bit cold and elegant scent, wouldn`t consider it seductive, but definitely different and makes a statement. I like Stella-s, have worn them in my late 20s, this one is a more grown-up scent altogether, but not one bit less feminine than any Stella-s!
I personally adore it and will try and hunt down another bottle..

Well after avoiding Stella’s perfume’s for quite a while as her original smelt terrible on me, I bought this blind to get a deal on some others.
So I’m pretty hesitant where LoV is concerned as yes, it smells cold and very old fashioned with no richness or growl that other old fragrances have like Femme.
Thanks to the truffle, musk and patchouli notes in this though, I find it so much more earthy and warm. It’s still floral and innocent but wearable and comforting too. It’s like a walk in a beautiful spring woodlands wearing a warm thick jumper. A pleasant surprise.
Longevity and sillage isn’t bad, could do with a bigger trail if you ask me though.

I tried this one quite some time ago. Maybe I’d think differently of it now, but at the time it was a completely powderbomb and immediate scrubber!

I got a free sample just after it was launched. I used a little and would say it wasn’t very memorable. This year I took it with me on Christmas holiday. After a first couple of days I would say, again: it’s not memorable, has no trail and stays very close to your skin. But I must say it’s nice, soft, musky and patchouli fragrance. Yes, it’s safe, non offensive and not memorable. I might or might not buy but if given as a gift, would use will pleasure.

I love the original Stella, and I thought I was going to like this fragrance too so I bought a bottle.
It was not cheap and there is something in it I don’t like.
I agree that the opening is harsh, but this harshness does not subside on me.
I wear it on occasions, but it doesn’t quite work for me.
    There are nicer fragrances available!

I found this perfume for an amazing deal from my local beauty shop. I tested it twice and the second time definitely convinced me of the beauty of this fragrance and I am so happy with my purchase!
When I first saw some fragrances on sale at my local beauty shop, I eagerly went to test them out. It turned out that the other fragrances weren’t anything special, and I was almost disappointed, but then I had my eye on a tester bottle of L.I.L.Y. Instantly the name and the design of the bottle lured me in, and I had to spray it on a tester paper. At first the opening of the fragrance was quite unpleasant and very peppery and what many people, including myself, would call old ladylike. But the heavy opening was gone in a matter of 30 seconds and what I could then smell was very interesting indeed. I could not put my finger on what the perfume actually smelled like, but I found it very different and really lovely. I had to be on my way, so I left the store and carried the tester paper around with me sniffing it through out the day. That’s when I knew I absolutely loved how the perfume developed through out the day but I wasn’t yet convinced if it was a fragrance for me.
SO come next day, and I knew I had to go test L.I.L.Y another time. I went back in to the shop and this time I had to try it on my skin. The opening was again very heavy and unpleasing but I find the fragrance settles down quickly. And after 10 minutes of letting L.I.L.Y sit on my skin, I knew I was in love! I had to get it, and I did! And ever since I have been completely obsessed. It smells so elegant. It’s fresh and yet somehow warm like a summer day. Reading Stella’s inspiration for this fragrance made me love it even more and it definitely does make me think of the English countryside. This fragrance makes me think of beautiful green meadows filled with flowers after the rain. I just can’t get enough of this! This fragrance is lightly floral, but I can’t say that it smells exactly like LOV, it’ more like a beautiful blend that creates the scent of a summer meadow, it’s a bit earthy, but not too much so.
So far I have only sprayed L.I.L.Y very lightly and it hasn’t lasted terribly long that way. But today I tried spraying it directly on my wrists as opposed to misting it around myself, and that way it seems to last much longer.
L.I.L.Y is very inoffensive in my opinion. Don’t let the harsh opening put you off from trying this out. The opening settles very quickly and I love how this fragrance develops. It suits my skin so well. I think L.I.L.Y is not necessarily for teenagers, but if a teen would happen to like it, I think they could totally wear this. I do think this scent is a bit more mature, but it’s absolutely not old ladylike in my opinion.
TL;DR I love this fragrance. It’s innocent and sophisticated. It’s lovely like a summer meadow after the rain. A bit earthy, but fresh like the greens and the flowers of the meadow.

not a fan of lily generally, but figured i’d try this since i got a sample of it. it starts out all peppery lilies on me. it’s very strong and clean. not really my type of scent but it’s interesting to try it anyway. it’s also kind of salty. kind of reminds me of womanity but with lily instead of fig. it’s so strong and harsh it gives me a bit of a headache. not for me at all but it is interesting to try scents out of your typical scent wardrobe.

Although I love Stella’s creations…I still haven’t made my mind on this one…It definitely has a different vibe compare to the perfumes that came out this last 5 years….
Kind of cold and harsh at the beginning….the opening is mainly floral, no pepper detected by my humble nose. The lily of the valley is there but lacking sweetness, which is not necessarily a bad thing. After a while the harshness is gone…and the oakmoss and patchouli appear…both very light and discrete.Unfortunately (or fortunately for some)the perfume does not develop any further…and the musk notes never shout out their existence in this creation. The sillage is satisfying and the staying power is quite remarkable, without being suffocating.Actually it keeps a freshness from the beginning until it softly fades.I have tried it in winter time, but I have the feeling that this girl will behave differently in hot and humid conditions.Very unique, and very sophisticated.Someone needs to know it well before it appreciates it.

I was really excited about this one since I love Stella, which reminds me of a walk through a rose garden after a rain.I was intrigued by the earthy description and was hoping this might be something I’d wear when I’m out in the woods.I love the name too.I blind bought a rollerball and sprayed it on myself at home…and OMG I smelled like an 85 year old woman. My grandmother would have loved this. This is not youthful in any way shape or form.A hint of citrus would have livened this or a touch bit more sweetness.Something is missing here!

A modern day, easy to wear, delicate chypre-floral – in my opinion. The musk is very clean and soft. This is the perfumed definition of dainty and elegant.
Lily of the valley meets Oakmoss very carefully here, and it has a lovely earthy feel. Like one with nature, in a sense. It’s not overtly floral, it’s not a slap in the face, it’s actually rather gentle.
    I think it’s stunning.
Longevity is moderate on me, projection is soft, but remember to spray with a light hand. I always feel that musky scents should be sprayed lightly or else they become stuffy.

I got this for my birthday this year and was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a simple Muguet white floral type fragrance but was instead met with something a lot darker and complex. A woody, musky scent that defies expectations

This is GORGEOUS, why so many negative reviews???
This opens with a hint of masculinity (just a hint), which I love, as well as a combination of musk and florals. It dries down to the most sensual, charming, naturally delicious scent that lasts and lasts. I love getting wafts of it throughout the day. To me, it’s a “your skin but better” type of scent. Definitely an everyday type of deal, and definitely seductive and fashionable. Mmm.

Hello again, I would describe this a quintessentially English, in an aristocratic manner. Let me explain, it is understated, lovely to look at (think English girls with beautiful skin and hair), refined, almost virginal, has character but never intrudes. I get a picture of Anne Boleyn walking through the woods in springtime or the late Princess Diana before she became too worldly. I really enjoy its simplicity.

Imagine walking into a small garden just after a rainfall. Fragrances of wet soil, grass and plants that blend with a mild note of lilly of the valley. It is quite unique. If you like the smell of freshly cut grass and a more authentic white flower note you will also like the opening of this fragrance. Pepper also plays a prominent part and becomes warmer after a while. Together, this makes a pretty complex fragrance, fresh yet earthy and spicy.
I would say that this is not a sensual fragrance. It is honest and romantic but not seductive. If you like a seductive gourmand, this is certainly not for you.
I like it because of the strong association to wet garden and rainy summer days. It is more of a mood setting fragrance. I think that´s nice. It is like a fragrance you wear just for your self, just to make your self feel happy, calm and to create a certain atmosphere 🙂

I have a few sample vials of this and I’m quite impressed with the lovely lily-of-the-valley chypre. It sits well on my skin for a good 3-4 hours and drydown is lovely. Soft & feminine, not a bomb on your nose kind of smell.. really nice!
an office safe fragrance.. a 3.9 out of 5 for me. 🙂

Yes, dear reader, I have been a naughty girl and opened my Xmas present early. Oh the childish delight in doing so is indescribable Should I/Shouldn’t I. Well I am a big girl now, and yes I will…..
The box was softly scented which dispels my previous comment of coldness on paper. I guess it depends on what sort of paper. The thin recycled strips the SA hands out does not do it justice. Soft parchment is just so much better.
Then the bottle, just like a cut glass vase which an English country lady would put the wonderful simple flowers this portrays into. The juxtaposition hits you in the face, a picture of both simple flower and multifaceted vase , simply gorgeous. I am suddenly transported back to my childhood living in England. Wild flowers growing in the local forest surrounded by the dappled sunlight of early Spring. The childish delight of picking flowers for my mother and her putting them in an inherited vase, cut glass, chipped but still beautiful. (Scent and memory are truly linked)
Wafts of scent on my skin which lasted well into the next day. The silage softly swirls about me, never offensive just present.
Is this love? If not, it is pretty close.

At last , a return to the Chypres, oh how I have missed you amongst the sugary offerings of late…………Simply beautiful and a stunning tribute to her mother.
I found this to be the perfect perfume for my age group 50 years plus) Gentle, soothing, light but lingering, modern but in an old fashioned way. Not at all sweet in the sugary sense and absolutely no fruit, both of which I find hard to stomach in a perfume On paper it certainly had a coldness about it, and was somewhat off putting, However, once applied on your skin it is light and earthy. The florals sing above the oakmoss and patchouli . It reminds me of another perfume, but could not put my finger of what I had in my perfume wardrobe like it. I don’t mind that either, it adds to the comfort factor I always look for in a perfume. Will wait a couple of hours to experience the dry down, but I already know this will on my dressing table soon.
If you look at the advertisement blurb, it fits the perfume perfectly. something for the not so young, and natural.
Yes, I knew I had smelt it somewhere before, it is like Jicky without the lavender and powder.
11/11/13 I have bought it. Xmas pressie in waiting!!!!!

Although this scent is perfect for spring and cold summer, to me it smells very different. To me it smells like cold box of Christmas decorations. The one that have been on the cold attic or basement and now brought to the warm living room.
But the description is right, this scent is perfectly earthy, floral and woody. Very unique and old fashion scent with a modern touch and a gorgeous bottle.

Spraying too much of this and it will be overwhelmingly peppery as if you got into a fight with your spice rack. Sprayed lightly, you still get some pepper, but after 10 minutes, the lily of the valley immerges and it can be a little loud at this point, but it will settle down to a very pleasant, clean smelling fragrance after about 20 minutes. I can not reinterate enough that this is a fragrance that works best when sprayed lightly or misted on the body and clothing. Sprayed with a heavy hand and it will smell like the “old lady” comments below of someone spraying too much because she lost a lot of her sense of smell and over compensates. This fragrance does not smell old, but poor application can make it smell that way. A little goes a long way. The LOTV will stay for a while before the patchouli, oak moss, and musk come in for the dry down. Truffle seems to stay in the background along with the pepper throughout the wearing. This is also one of those fragrances that smells best when you wave your wrist in front of your face vs putting your nose directly on your wrist. It’s like viewing a painting from afar to have best possible perspective of the art piece.
This is not a sexy fragrance, but a rather crisp, clean, and a bit green and earthy scent that could be worn in spring, summer, or fall…maybe winter too. Definitely a day scent. I’ve worn this to the office and people (both men and women) loved it, so it’s non-offensive. Some thought I was wearing a Chanel so it certainly doesn’t smell “cheap”. Seems to wear closer to the skin once it settles after about 3 hours (but those standing a foot from you can smell it) and lasts about 6-8 hours on the skin.
EDIT: Wore this to a meeting last week and everyone who came near me was gushing over how elegant this is and even the word “aristocratic” was used. Of course it’s aristocratic, an OBE (Officer of the British Empire) picked put the ingredients and her father is Sir Paul McCartney. Even so, the fragrance needs to be worn correctly. This is how I wore it to garner so many compliments. I sprayed from an arms length from my body a couple of times so only a mist got on my skin and sprayed each of my wrists misting them the same way as well. Once dressed, I sprayed and walked through for the scent to catch my clothes. This creates the effect of a stately lady, properly groomed, and ready to handle business…or whatever comes her way. Elegance truly is the sayings, “less is more” because “simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication”

I could not wait to get this one off me fast enough. It smells like an old lady’s medicine cabinet. It’s sooooo long lasting too. The ones I couldn’t stand last the longest on me. It’s Murphy’s Law at its finest.

  23. :

    4 out of 5

This doesn’t work for me, it’s extremely sharp on my skin.
I get fresh pepper, extremely green flower plants, moss, crushed leaves, fresh earthy patchouli, normally all scents I absolutely love, but in this fragrance it settles too bitter green and offensive on my skin. There’s nothing to mellow it out or soften it; I would almost say it verges on being acrid.
I do have to say I can definitely smell how beautiful this fragrance could be with the right chemistry.

  24. :

@Sweet Caroline: You do realize that this fragrance is based on lily-of-the valley, right? It’s a different flower. Lily of the Valley is really sweet, dainty, delicate, and very “white” in terms of color-smell correlation.
I think this fragrance is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I definitely wasn’t expecting something like this at all, but the Lily of the Valley/ Oakmoss combination is TO DIE FOR, and the musk makes this very comforting and warm.
It’s not sexy or alluring, but it reminds me of home. It’s very clean, fresh, and elegant.

I expected this fragrance to smell like Lilies and it didn’t… I don’t like it at ALL. I gave it away!!! I LOVE THE SMELL OF LILIES IT’S MY FAV FLOWER. THIS SMELLS NOTHING LIKE LILIES.What a disappointment.

  26. :

    5 out of 5

I’ve been testing L.I.L.Y, and I am not 100% sure how I feel about it. When I first smelled it, I was a little taken aback, but a small glimmer curiosity remained. After I tried it on, I found that it’s one of those perfumes that I don’t like when I put my nose directly on my arm, but I thoroughly enjoy the occasional wafts I keep catching throughout the day. The fragrance lasts, and it has a bit of projection, which is great.
When I first spray it, it’s a bit screechy and brash with the pepper and lily of the valley. Soon after, the musk and moss come in and calm everything down a little. It still packs a tangy punch, but the earthiness saves it from being just another cold, peppery floral. In the very late stages of the drydown (like 4 hours in), it *almost* takes on the character of Hermes Eau Des Merveilles.
I don’t know if I would ever purchase a full bottle of it, but I imagine I’d like a decant just to have around for when I’m in the mood.
Update: It’s 11:25am the next day after spraying one spritz of L.I.L.Y in the crook of my arm (at about 4pm yesterday). I can still smell it on my arm! Wow! *Moves longevity slider to the right one more notch*

The pepper and musk make an interesting contrast with the lily. It’s floral and romantic with an edge of spicy smoke. It’s unorthodox, like freshly dug earth. It’s more along the lines of a skin scent, ironically, it smells like its a part of you, not like you’re wearing something deliberate.

  28. :

    3 out of 5

The first puff rejected me as hell. What is it??. The beginning is strong, sharp, piercing in the nose and completely rejected me. I do not feel that spring from advertising or delicate white petals of lily of the valley. The smell in this phase of reminds me of the old ladies and such we’ve read reviews of Lily.
And as time passes and the smell is changing and is just wonderful. It reminds me with some luxury products for the body, milk from Dior and Chanel. Lily at this stage is cuddly, wrapping and more fit me in colder seasons of the year, because there is no refreshing things.
Gracious bottle, a class by itself, you can see that we are dealing with a design project- not celebrity perfume.
    Persistence incredible 10 hours.
I would recommend to test before buying.

  29. :

    4 out of 5

I expected L.I.L.Y to be more of a floral scent, however it turned out to be quite peppery. I’m used to Stella McCartney fragrances being super flowery, so it was a shock to be greeted by a strong hit of pepper, ambrette seeds and patchouli.
The lily of the valley note is there, but you have to sniff it out. I find it somewhat misleading to call this fragrance L.I.L.Y, seeing that the note itself is barely there. It lends more of a soapy feel, rather than a dewy white floral aroma.
Once settled, I must admit that I rather enjoy this soft, feminine and peppery scent. Although like others, I am also slightly disappointed in not being able to detect the truffle accord.
L.I.L.Y is nothing out of the ordinary, but pleasant nonetheless. I find it a tad more wearable than Stella, but less characteristic, and of course less bold. I would wear L.I.L.Y during Spring and Autumn.
At present, L.I.L.Y is still relatively expensive. For what it is, I would concur with it being way overpriced. Wait for L.I.L.Y to hit the discount stores before considering a purchase.

  30. :

    4 out of 5

It’s love hate with this one…at first the patchouli seems too strong; too much–brazen and too bold but then something aquatic or rose cuts into it and there is a sudden woodsy watery quality that I love…

  31. :

    3 out of 5

I knew nothing about the composition when I first sprayed this on but knew instantly that it had patchouli, because that is just not my essential oil. I found the whole fragrance very earthy and it actually made my throat almost scratchy. Its definitely not a feel good fragrance, and if I could use an emoticon to describe it, it would be a combination between an expression of sadness and puzzlement. I don’t find it unique, comforting or anything good. Its not repellent and if I absolutely had nothing else I might try it for the day, because my boyfriend doesn’t mind it, but honestly, no thanks.

  32. :

    5 out of 5

I agree with the reviews of “old woman” scent category… On the other hand this also has the same sort of scent vibe that the scented letter paper & envelopes that were popular a decade ago, and it makes me think of this as a sort of vintage style scent and it’s kind of nice. But still I feel this is more of a annoying head ache perfume that is used by old ladies who don’t have working sense of smell anymore.

  33. :

    5 out of 5

If this is an “old woman’s” scent, she must be a 300 year old elf or sprite because “L.i.l.y” is nothing but pure, crisp, freshness. It has a slightly melon-musky undertone that’s almost sweet (must be the truffle) and a soft cumin-like, peppery note, that reminds me of pencil shavings. A crisp, vegetal green emerges and there’s a metallic, mineral freshness that lingers over the whole thing, making me think of damp stones.
To me, “L.i.l.y” is spring flowers, a morning meadow, a stone wall covered in dew and warming in the early morning sunshine. It’s intimate, special and nostalgic and it’s subtle, along the lines of “Les Nez’s” offerings. It’ a childhood memory of lily of the valley, not a strong soliflore of the note and something about it really makes me think of the smell of morning, of being outdoors all day long, as a child, with the fresh air and wind blowing against you all day, the sun warming your skin, the smell of spicy grasses and flowers being picked against your hands. The smell of the outdoors, only idealized.
For those who aren’t moved by this scent, I can only think you must be anosmic to something in this blend because “L.i.l.y” is the ethereal (but not too ephemeral on me, as it lingered on my skin like the smell of a roll in a meadow, for six hours, before trailing off into a vague, musky sweetness) stuff of dreams. For anyone who loves green scents, it’s beautiful. It’s kind of like a more public friendly, updated version of “Eden” by Cacharel.

  34. :

this smells like an old woman’s perfume to me. It is almost sickeningly floral and sweet.

  35. :

I am an English rose grower and lover of all things rosey, so, naturally Stella’s gorgeous rose based fragrances have been my beloved favourites.
I love Stella Original. Stella Nude is my favourite followed by Sheer 2008 and other sheers.
I find Rose Absolute very naturally rosey and wearable even though it is a little drier than than the others.
But this fragrance, I could not come to love.
In my opinion, if you cannot enjoy the opening of a perfume, you do not want to wear it, because a fresh spritz of your chosen scent should be an enjoyable experience.
The opening of this one is dry, arid pepper, and as the composition develops, dehydrated oakmoss accompanies the pepper along with some weak florals that attempt to poke their weary heads through the dessicated dunes, but fail to make a significant impact before the sun has already set on my opinion of this fragrance.
Fortunately, I only bought a sample of this.
Not the Stella I have come to know and love, and a very poor tribute for L.I.L.Y.
    (In my humble Opinion)

  36. :

Surprisingly I’m not getting much LOV here. There is a burst of something fresh at the opening then it dries down to mostly musk, similar to SJP Lovely. It’s nice but there isn’t much of the note I was looking for.

  37. :

    5 out of 5

I get a lighter, softer version of Coco Mademoiselle. It opens quite aquatic with sprinkles of pepper. Then it warms down and the truffle note emerges and floats haphazardly among the other notes. i dunno, it must be just me. i love truffles but i dont get its fullness in this perfume. Longevity is about 4 to 5 hours on me.

  38. :

    5 out of 5

I thought this would be great, as it was described as having oak moss at the base…it’s very uninspiring and has very short longevity. It’s like that really good looking guy you think is a great kisser because he has nice lips; but disappointingly find out that he slobbers. that’s what L.I.L.Y is like.

  39. :

this is lovely. it is breezy with a hint of naughty. it has that alcoholic twist at the end when it dries down, but nothing too astringent-like.

Well despite all the emotive hype and heartfelt claims to have personally given much deep and meaningful selection of each and every note: I’d be grateful if Stella could stick to turning out expensive frocks.
If a hefty punch in the nose of burning pepper and eye watering sickly overdone Lily of the Valley (although it could be anything really) reminds you of your Mother you have definitely got serious issues.
Like every other cheap smell-alike clumsy celeb’ air pollution this is all hype and absolutely nothing else.
I’m almost exclusively wearing vintage scents these days so maybe I’m just rather spoilt as the difference between ‘then’ and what is presented to our noses ‘now’ is an insult.
This like so many others is just plain bad.
Harsh as this may read I truly find the emotive play in the marketing of this poorly executed pong distasteful.

    it smells like wind
    This smells nothing like mademoiselle
This perfume is nice for people who feel compelled to wear perfume, even though they aren’t particularly in the mood to wear perfume. It’s what I expected ‘This is not a perfume’ by Juliette has a Gun to smell like. I would definently prefer lily on these off days as opost to not a perfume. Even though it’s VERY light it does also smell nice, which I cant say for NOT a perfume.

I tested L.I.L.Y several times, since I wanted to give it a fair chance. Well, I don’t think I’d buy it for myself, but I find it lovely. This is basically a musky, mossy lily of the valley. Nothing trendy here, but a classic scent with a modern twist, that I’m sure will appeal to many who want something more tasteful and yet chic. I much prefer Stella’s original rose fragrance, but that is simply a matter of personal taste – I love roses. I’d still appreciate this one on other people.

I’m so surprised at the lack of creativity here. This is nothing but Chanel Coco Mademoiselle without the heavy patch (although it’s still there). There’s also an ‘air’ like note to it, that makes it less stuffy, earthy, and thick than Chanel.
It’s not that I dislike it, it’s just it’s so much like CM, that I’d never purchase it.

I was gifted a sample of this. It smelled interesting. On me it smells like a fresh cut pepper from my garden.

I had it and I couldn’t really get to like it, I think it has certain qualities but the scent is a bit cold, a bit metallic at times. It is dry so I can see why it is called masculine. I think it is a nice departure from lots of sweet scents out there, yet for me just wasn’t too attracted to it. I did enjoy though the Lilly of the valley note , this scent is on the edge of being a cold floral almost. I get the comparison with Baiser Vole , they both have green undertones, much greener though in the Cartier.

I am not a fan. It smells like a man’s fragrance. It’s not horrible, but I don’t want to smell so green and musky.

Sorry, but what I feel here is something in between of Chanel Chance and Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. Nothing really unique, and this is not a solo of lily of the valley.

Wearing the fragrance today and finding it mild and a bit bland, not peppery or woodsy to my senses. Definitely a ‘dry’ floral in the sense that it is lacking in sweetness and sparkle. Meh. Going on ebay.

it’s a quite soft and fresh fragrance. the lily is definitely overwhelming along with the pepper. too bad the musk is quite in the background. not my kind of scent but it does represent the name well …

Does the acronym L.I.L.Y., which is the name of Stella McCartney’s new fragrance, actually mean anything? Or is this just another lame effort at coolness to mask yet another boring launch?
Having now smelled L.I.L.Y., I’m guessing the latter. It probably means nothing, as this is a light, watery, slightly green and totally forgettable lily of the valley soliflore which can be had from cheap-o soliflore fragrance houses for very little money. This does not smell bad, mind you, but it does not stand out at all from the crowd.
I am reminded a bit of Cartier BAISER VOLE, although I’m working from memory. I’ll report back after retesting the Cartier. It’s true that lily of the valley and lily are entirely different flowers, but both of these fragrances are more watery and green than floral, at least to my nose, and both feature “abstract”, not natural flowers.
Basically, this is a yawn, and a short-lived one at that. Oh well, who wants a yawn with nuclear longevity?
    ——————-
update: I stand corrected! L.I.L.Y. stands for “Linda I love you,” and this fragrance was inspired by Stella’s memories of “the estate” where she grew up. Oh brother.

Just got a sample size of this and one spray was enough to turn me off. Can’t say exactly what it is but there is a note in this that says “old woman.” Ironically, husband likes it. Bleh.

Very in-offensive ,close to the skin-
soft and green calm and relaxing but also boring- can do way better for the price .

This opens as a bright crisp floral, and then the green notes move in quickly. There is a strong lily of the valley note, and I could smell the patchouli easily. The oakmoss is not as strong on me as the patchouli, but I love that its there. A cool mix of florals and greens.

I like this. First green, sharp and peppery but softens quickly. The drydown smells very similar to Yves Saint Laurent Y.

Far too weak for the price. I only smell a faint floral with apricot. You would have to use it like a body spray for it to register.
It brought to mind Miss Dior Cherie.

This is Issey Miyake + shrill lily note. Sorry Stella, this is just a very typical, watery floral. Wear this
