Description

After Elephant and Tiger, Kenzo launched Zebra in 1998. This is a spicy, masculine fragrance with woody and citrusy notes. The notes of maté and sweet lime are followed by accord of nutmeg and ambrette seeds. Cedar makes it more sensual and warm. The nose behind this fragrance is Olivier Cresp.

Sillage and longevity have been limited. I hate IFRA.

I remember this fragrance being released, but I always like the smell of Jungle Homme but felt it was a bit lightweight. I don’t know if it’s nostalgia but when I smell it now I get the subtle nuance, Oliver Cresp is wanting to convey. Relaxed, lime opening which is gently spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom, melting into a soft sandalwood musk. It smells exotic and is quietly projecting and lasting well too. Truly stunning. Kinda reminds me of lots of things but is unique at the same time. Maybe Gucci Envy a fragrance from a similar time period, maybe a touch of Lalique Homme and Equis? Something about this is just so 90’s. I effectively blind bought as I genuinely couldn’t remember what Jungle Homme smelled like and I’m over the moon with it. I really like Kenzo as a brand, even the clothes are cool (despite the hefty pricetag) and the playful and let’s face it slightly ridiculous design of the flacon needs a place in my wardrobe. I haven’t had a Kenzo fragrance since Homme and that was going way back.

It really does have a bit of a sweat accord in it but it smells delicious. Jungle was a fitting name for this one.

Ahh, Kenzo Jungle – it’s animalistic and spicy and thick and warm – to the point where you can almost touch it as much as you can smell it.
It really reminds me of walking past the gorilla habitat at the zoo. Believe it or not, I truly mean this in a good way. It rocks.

Very jungle indeed. Maybe this is what Tarzan smells like. It reminds me of funky like L’Artisan Al Oudh but tamed down a bit. It smells like a sweat-drenched skin from hot humid tropics with a hint of metallic iron. The nutmeg and sandalwood lends a complementary creaminess. Nothing sweet about this cologne. Simply put, a smell of a man sweating under the sun!

Such a wonderful fragrance. 90s for sure. Warm spicy fragrant and sweet. Definitely cinnamon is there and maybe nutmeg. Masculine in this beautiful 90s sense. The bottle is sweet and cute too.

Primal masculinity in a bottle. Liquid id with no trace of superego. My love from the first sniff.
And a cute little brush-like thingie on a cap 🙂

Kenzo Jungle just doesn’t work with my chemistry. The hyper ripe lime and rank cumin of the open sticks on me for a good hour and overstays its welcome. Not the type of spiciness I hoped for. The drydown improves with a (too soft) creamy nutmeg, cardamon and guaiac wood but the benzoin sticks out a bit much. I don’t get a whiff of cinnamon or sandalwood, unfortunately.
I blind bought it based on the “reminds me of Puredistance M” a couple of users indicated – Jungle doesn’t remind me of M in the slightest. That open immediately brought to mind Al-Rehab Khaliji, which doesn’t work for me, either – again a citrus and cumin combo going rancid. Not a keeper.

I recall I was on a trip to swim across the Zambezi river. I stepped off onto the helipad to what felt like a pinprick to my neck, later I found out it had been a poisonous arrow. As I drifted off the smell of the plants that were used to coat the poisonous arrow, possibly something like lime, ubocurarine, curarine, ambrette seeds, quinine, aprotocurarine and related alkaloids wafted into my nostrils. Great smell. This particular poison caused me to seize. I had fallen into the water at the start line, I remember hearing a shot, my body was twitching in a motion similar to swimming, I proceeded to break the Zambezi double-cross swim meet record. As I swam past the finish line onto land the aborigines watching had to hold me down to stop me from swim-twitching off down the road. I was traveling with my private nurse who happened to have the cure. I had the arrow bronzed, keep it next to my trophy and bottle of Kenzo Jungle

    The 100 Days Challenge – Day 20:
My first headturner. I remember it exactly. It was midday and i entered into a perfume store here in Montevideo. The air was hot and humid, like in a jungle. I asked the lady who worked there to offer me something special: she had me trying this. I loved it. I reeked like an alpha lion and i loved it. Once i came into my house, my girlfriend at the time stopped eating as i entered the room just to scream how amazingly sexy I smelled. Roaring appeal.

This one is special for me. Very original fragrance, and hard to deliver in words.. the author gave the only possible name to it – “Jungle”.
It comforts me. It’s like I’m petting some wild animal – and not feeling dangerous about that, right opposite – feeling “related”.. There is also something soft like fur and sweet like vanilla about it.. – not candy-sweet though, rather ‘sweet’ like reference to person – “he’s sweet guy”; and there is no vanilla in ingredients – so I guess my senses pull ‘vanilla’ as as association of “vanilla sex”.
I live in Florida – it’s hot and humid here most of the year. Strangely, without being “crisp”, this fragrance behaves really well for such weather. I’ve experimented with fresh and airy “Aqua di…” and Citrus-y types – they all work, of cause, – but that’s what became common way to smell round here, so in a way I feel tired of it.. From another hand – applying other interesting “fougere” or “gourmand” types not always finishes well for me: I do sweat (excuse details) and get overwhelmed by heat at moments, and suddenly perfume may turn suffocating.. not this one.. This one harmonizes me with all this heat, I don’t feel hunted down by blazing sun and steaming everglades – I feel almost becoming part of it.. this is fascinating.
First time I smelled ‘Jungle’ in early 2000s. I thought “my gosh, how exotic…” and I was not ready – I wanted to smell “popular” (this fragrance arguably never was and probably never will be “popular”).. These days I don’t want anymore to be popular, don’t want to “stand out and challenge” either.. This is the fragrance that makes me feel free. I never get compliments or remarks on it, but I notice people’s perception of me is affected when I wear it.. they like me and do not attack me.. LOL. I wear it on and off for 2 years now.
Anyways.. silage is ‘careful’; projection is – ‘crouching Tiger/hidden Dragon’; longevity is ‘great’ on my skin/hair – in 6-8 hours it keeps radiating gently, and next day in shower I suddenly revive it for one more whiff; fragrance itself – ‘Unique and Harmonious’.
If you’re looking to be a “star of the evening” – I don’t think this will “bit competitors”. It will stand free and non-intrusive, like wild exotic animal we see on a distance..
    My overall rating 10/10.
    Thanks.

Totally adore this juice! So effortless and special. Totally carefree and uplifting with its exotic woodiness and fresh aromatic character. Year apart from today boring releases, this bears enough originality to stand the test of time (as it does already since 1998). Sometimes these hidden gems are created and then get appreciated by those who seek for individualism apart from the mainstream in designer fragrances. Though Zebras don’t live in the Jungle, I still love this juice to bits!

I don’t know if this fume falls under the category of missing notes (not listed) or if the right combination of notes gives the effect of another note…To me, this opens with a very clear cumin and lime flurry that is grounded by the richness of a coconut and sandalwood heart/base. It’s like indulging in a spiced coconut cream – there is just a hint of cinnamon, cardamom, and mate sprinkled on a creamy, woody (thanks to the clear cedar note) coconut mixed with a dense white muck and airy sandalwood. This is sublime and smells something like abstract art with notes you are familiar with done in a way that is quite difficult to decipher. I am repelled and attracted to it simultaneously – it is very dissonant but madly attractive…such a mad love! It stays fairly linear in it spiced coconut concoction for quite some time but dries off to a very pleasing white musk (and nutmeg?!?) that clings to skin for hours. It’s definitely a unique spring/summer scent that can be pulled off in the colder months as well. I also think this is appropriate for all genders as nothing in here screams man. Anyways, I hope you all find a feast for fit for your greatness!

From the reviews I was expecting something that would take some getting used to. That didn’t happen. I liked this scent right from first spray. It started off really citrusy, the citrus gave way to some sweet spices before drying to a nice cozy wood. This might be an ignorance is bliss situation. Not being able to pick out individual notes may be saving me from smelling the B.O. or tropical fruit or wet wood notes that I’ve seen mentioned in other reviews. The bottle is pretty cool too, so add some points for that as well.

Kenzo Jungle is truly what one neophyte would call ¨exotic¨: Sweet and smokey at the same time (cinnamon, benzoin, sandalwood), round up by a heavy measure of tropical wood notes (cedar+guaiac), a tad animalic (pepper, spices): it´s impressive, evocative, lush, and quite sexy. It lives up to its name; not necesarely reminiscent of the jungle itself, but how it feels like to be in a wooden lodge in the evening, in good company while looking at the sun setting beyond the tropical forest, lulled by the sounds of animals; mysterious, exciting, sensual.
It´s interesting to see that such a fragrance was once marketed for the masses (which really shows how the 90´s were more bold tastewise than what we´ve got nowadays). I still remember the impressive TV commercial for the female version “Elephant” back in the day, another interesting and beautiful scent, just a bit sweeter and a tad less woodier.
For those interested in trying it: Jungle always reacted very well for me in any occasion but I would recommend waiting for the drydown to really make up your mind about it; give it time, and remember these kind of fragrances (spicy, aromatic) react differently on each one´s skin. If you pass the tests…welcome to the jungle!

I reckon this is an under-rated gem. Its one of my favorites because of its uniqueness and spicy fresh feel. At the top I get juicy sweet lime/bergamot and nutmeg with a bit of cinnamon in the mix and as it dries its a warm spicy woody scent with citrus fading away. The name jungle is fitting for the smell I think. Long lasting and moderate projection. Doesn’t smell dated at all! Not a date scent but perfect for casual wear in cooler weather!

I blind bought this because I read somewhere that it is similar to my dearly departed soul mate, Dolce and Gabanna By (the best fragrance to grace to grace this world). Well, with all due respect, that is nonsense IMHO. My wife says this smells like body odour. My mother says it smells like ****, and my sister says I smell like pine needles and wet soil. My 2.5 year old daughter says I smell like “Father Kipmis” (her way of saying Father Christmas or Santa Claus or St Nick). She obviously also smells the pine needles and pine trees. Back on point, this is a unique but very odd scent. I’m not a fan.

Since opening, Jungle is aromatic but at the same time spicy, that my nose is the most predominant.
Cinnamon said heating the fragrance and is also a complicated note to work, she is strong and sweet, but here is well-crafted and balanced, if not, there would be taken care of the whole fragrance.
Basically, I feel as if they were bits of spices, cardamom appear clearer to me and amber so creates a more sweet and resinous almost golden.
Drying has woody touches to me cedar and sandalwood appear giving some creaminess and guaiac certain mineral touch, a fine example of the house.

I have worn this a few times now. It is interesting and unusual so it scores points from me for that. I am not very good at identifying discrete notes unless they are really obvious, but early on I get a slightly sweet, fruity aroma.
My gripe is that it is weak. I need at least 10 sprays on body and clothing to get something happening. Admittedly, the big variable between bottles is how much liquid the sprayer delivers per spray. But I can’t help feeling that my 100ml bottle contains 50ml of actual fragrance and has been diluted, as tends to be the way of things these days.
    Edited 2018-03-27
I realise now the sprayer on my bottle is delivering a very small quantity with each spray and this is my issue, not its strength.

A blind purchase based on the largely positive views on Fragrantica, but also a desire to try something different. Loving Kenzo Homme and finding a good online offer, I thought what could go wrong? In deference to anyone intending to read this, be warned: it doesn’t make for pleasant reading.
Before addressing the substance, a distinguishing feature is the course “brush” with an angled cut surmounting the lid – presumably meant to resemble a jungle creature’s fur. Textured like a shaving brush, it is striped like a zebra – which is a savannah (no jungle) dweller. And this seeming inconsistency and confusion extends to the contents.
The opening is like a semi-ferment of coconut, lime and pineapple – the sort of over-ripe fruit scavenged by the likes of tapirs and warthogs. (I keep getting an image of Pumbaa). Bizarre. Challenging. The effect is like…body odour? Even a primate enclosure at a zoo. It is like someone going unwashed for days then applying a fruity/woody body mist to mask their B.O. This is the first occasion I’ve had cause to describe the top notes of any perfume as unpleasant.
Even so, a slow transformation over several minutes results in a woody “something”. Just not sure exactly what. To be honest, it doesn’t redeem itself a whole lot. It’s just less unpleasant.
Wearing this on a long-haul flight would be particularly inconsiderate, not to say antisocial. Which begs a load of questions. Primarily, what conceivable occasion could wearing it be appropriate? Would it be worn in the hope of attracting a partner; or should that be mate? If so, which species? And by extension what sex? (For those who are not sensitive to other’s humour, I jest, naturally.)
Quite honestly I’m lost with Jungle. Fair to say it is off-the-scale niche. I’m perplexed by the encounter and astounded by the positive voting on Fragrantica, because my experience has earned Jungle the distinction for being amongst the least likeable mens aftershaves that I’ve tried. I won’t be testing this again.
Definitely a try before you buy. But, if you know someone called Jane who expresses a predilection for men in a loincloth, this could be for you. Good luck is all I’ll say. Otherwise be warned: you’ve no one to blame if you’re bitten by a tsetse! Unless you purposely choose to smell like a macaque. Or is it a fruit bat? An anteater? Lemur…capybara…sloth.

Does somebody in this jungle have dysentery?
The opening to this is horrible. It really kind of stands out as a disaster among the many fragrances I’ve tried. A brief flash of lime and cedar turn into a sour, sweaty mash-up of B.O., rotten fruit, and fetid chaos. At first it was mildly revolting–an unpleasant smell of body odor which sometimes occurs when cumin, carraway, or in this case, ambrette seeds are used. I don’t like that, but it’s tolerable. You see it in Declaration, Rose 31, Carbon, etc. However, it’s like the lime note suddenly decayed before my eyes a la time lapse photography and went from fresh, to sour, to overripe, and finally to something completely rotten and putrid. Blending with the ambrette seeds, this made for an awful stench.
Anyway, that all happens in about 5 minutes. The one thing that really impresses me about this, in spite of its questionable opening, is that the ambiance of the fragrance actually reflects a jungle’s climate quite realistically. It’s humid, almost sweltering, and exudes a damp, dank heat. So I have to give credit to Olivier Cresp for accomplishing this. It’s kind of impressive. How many fragrances usually nail their environment dead-on like that? Not a lot.
As it settles in, the lime drifts pretty far to the background and Jungle becomes more of a wood and nutmeg fragrance. It’s nice. The woods are soft, creamy, and warm, keeping in tune with the jungle theme. It’s that cedar/sandalwood/vetiver blend which sort of smells like all of them and none of them at the same time–an accord that you can pick apart into each component if you wish, but is probably easier left as is–a pleasant “woody” base that does its job well. The nutmeg is spicy and a little sweaty. It’s not overpowering. It compliments the woods well, and gives them a spicy character.
At last, everything rests in a soft cushion of benzoin, with its mellow vibration creating a relaxing, tranquil aura. Benzoin has that slightly sweet vanillic smell and it works harmoniously with the woods and nutmeg described earlier.
What a strange fragrance! I started off kind of hating it, and by now I kind of love it. In fact, I’m sort of looking forward to experiencing its awful opening again. Sometimes when you know such a bizarre opening is short-lived, and that what follows is pleasant and good and interesting, it doesn’t bother you as much. Harsh openings sometimes even make for the best openings over time.
So would I wear this on a first date? Probably not. But once it settles in Jungle smells good and doesn’t really have anything offensive about it. However, it remains interesting. I think you could wear this any time of year, in a casual situation or when you feel like wearing something for yourself. It’s too strange to be a formal frag and it’s too cool to wear to work. Longevity is excellent, and projection is moderate. If you’ve ever smelled Burberry London or Pal Zileri’s Sartoriale, Jungle’s dry down has characteristics of each.
So in the end, Jungle has won me over. I’m still skeptical about its first 5 minutes, but I’ll be damned if this fragrance doesn’t have character. Cresp nailed the jungle’s atmosphere and the fragrance became more and more appealing with each new development.
Thumbs up and a Tarzan scream for this unique offering by Kenzo.

Kenzo Jungle Homme is a very nice smell. I don’t know how the real jungle smells, but there is something intriguing and very animalistic in this fragrance.
In general it’s citrusy, a bit bitter, a litlle bit flowery – but more on the green side then blossom.
What makes it special and unique are these “animalistic” notes. Well, I wrote “animalistic” but what I really mean is this mixture of:
    – wet wood – like you’re in the forest in a very hot day before a heavy rain.
    – horse (maybe a zebra;)) – 🙂 I know how this sounds but it really isn’t unpleasant
    – swimming pool – again very odd descripiton but it realy does smell great.
I wouldn’t describe Kenzo Jungle as a fresh smell. It has some freshness but it’s more dense and warm.
I think it’s suitable for every season. I wear it even in the summer and it suits the weather perfectly. You just smell like a humid jungle and it isn’t unpleasen’t. It’s like you blend in with the heat of the summer.
Wearing Kenzo Jungle you smell fresh, woodsy and intriguingly animalistic.

Kenzo’s Jungle Homme is that kind of perfume that I am always ready to highly recommend.
At the middle of the last decade it was, for a while, my favorite scent – and I didn’t forget that.
Its quality and my nostalgia, combined, drove me to an undoubtedly simple truth: Jungle Homme it’s a very, very good male perfume.
It is truly aromatic and very persistent – surprisingly strong for a Japanese fragrance, but equal in nerve with his Elephant feminine version. Those who love Azzaro PH or TdH (among others) know it, I suppose.
The simple fact that Kenzo keeps that treasure alive gives me optimism: some good scents will never die, I hope.
In my humble opinion, KJH is a 9+/10 fragrance. In other words, it’s a must.

Kenzo Jungle Homme is just as spicy and bold as its female predecessors. Some member on the forum suggested it to me, and although I cannot remember their name, (my apologies), I am most grateful for their suggestion.
Kenzo Jungle Homme is unisex. The same could be said of Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant. Think of these fragrances as genderless. As you would expect, Kenzo Jungle Homme opens with an array of exotic spices, including cinnamon, pepper, cardamom and nutmeg. There’s the slightest hint of citrus in the top notes, however it provides more sweetness than it does freshness.
Underrated this fragrance most certainly is. I’m surprised that Kenzo Jungle Homme is one of the less talked about Kenzo masculines. Perhaps some men consider it a risky choice, a fragrance that packs too much of a punch.
On my skin Kenzo Jungle Homme smells fantastic, perfect for a chilly, overcast day. The drydown is fairly woodsy, with gaiac wood, cedar and sandalwood. Now that I think about it, this fragrance could easily pass as niche. To be more precise, it smells like something M. Micallef would put her name to.
Kenzo Jungle Homme’s longevity is excellent, and the sillage strong but not overwhelming. For both sexes, a spicy and unique masterpiece. I highly recommend.

I really wanted to like this one because I’m a fan of the combination of sweet, spciy and woody notes that are used here. But there is a hint of chemical/ammonia that sits in the background on my skin that knocks it down a few notches. Could be the guaiac wood or maybe I just got a bad sample, so I’m not ready to completely write this one off just yet.

I tried it out today for the first time with some other perfumes on both my arms (voyage d’hermes, fahrenheit and jaguar vision). The only 2 standing are the jaguar and kenzo jungle.
This fragrance started out woody on my arm, very woody and stayed that way for some time. I kept sniffing my forearm again and again as it really started to develop around the 3 hour mark, turning sweet and the woods started to disappear but ever so slowly. The appearance of the sweet base was wonderful, not too strong, not too harsh and thankfully not too sweet. A scent that can be worn by anyone above 20 in my opinion, but definitely good with a lively, mannered personality.

I wore it long, even for a long time! Definitely a nice perfume, a ‘citrus again but not citrus boring, but the finely balanced and thanks to the nutmeg and stylish, even with subtle notes of tobacco and mild marshmallow which gives it a nice warm note. I say fragrance combination Kenzo Pour Homme and Dior Eau Sauvage, but a lot more subtle and I would more measured. How time goes on, unfortunately the perfume more and more traction to lime, specifically the for me personally gets some connotation to a citrus so-called heavy I really do not like, not at all! really spectacular opening, one of the best in the range of citrus fragrance similar to that variation, but nothing that is not worth it, and really is a great pity that after such a powerful start, losing all the perfume, heat and ‘uniqueness and turns into a faceless mass of citrus, which after a while I even bother, shame that is so, because he had great potential and eventually turned into a clean sour lemonade.Summary- personally it’s not a big deal, because it really does not repeat ciitrus like perfume, cologne generally has its own story, which eventually ends miserably.

i blind bought jungle and its very much like boss orange man but a bit less sweet and more woody and spicy.its slightly harsh after the first 5-10 min but the harsh fresh citrus notes slowly fade into the back ground within that period. In my opinion it is an evening version of boss orange man.it has good projection during the first 2-3 hours and has good longevity on my skin(6-8),though stays slightly close to the skin once the dry down kicks in.very very pleasant smell all in all.you cant go wrong with this.

I feared there would be a strong synthetic cedar note in here, as is so common these days in “men’s” fragrances, but that is not the case. The wood is here is almost transparent, actually (but not in a synthetic way). You know it’s there but it’s barely noticeable. I agree with those who think this is unisex. The spice is obvious and strong. There is also a powdery quality and it’s a little sweet, but just a little, and it’s got just enough dynamism to keep it interesting. The citrus is blended in nicely so you don’t get a literal smell of a particular fruit, which I generally dislike unless it is soft. Really well done and worth the reasonable prices it is selling for at the moment.

I just love the cinnamon-nutmeg chord in this fragrance. Also Benzoin does a good job in the balance. All those woods are in the base all the time and in the opening, the cardamom note is very comforting. Jungle is Warm and mysterious. It reminds me of that old red oil to polish the furniture, I don’t say it resembles it, but remind me of. Hours later, close to the skin, it gets very soft and woody. Jungle gives a very nice experience.
//Update: This one is for fall and surely it will be great for winter and holidays. All those notes just make me feel good. I really like the zebra idea, but maybe Jungle is not the best name. It is a very nice surprise how this change with the weather. If someone first tried Jungle on summer, give it another try… from like to love.

    Extremely powerful.
I admit that this fragrance can be a bit cloying and tiresome.
The king of the jungle is no longer the lion, but this Kenzo.
    I like.

    I think it’s great fragrance!
Yes it’s spicy and at first you can only smell nutmeg..but after a while it’s great, nutmeg and cinnamon are great combination. This fragrance is the best for winter holidays!
Love it, have it and I’ll sure wear it.
And one more thing! This fragrance is definitely not a blind buy!

Very pleasant fragrance, smooth but not so sweet, the nutmeg is smoothy by the benzoin of the base notes, the guaiac and the santal
