The house of Jitrois is famous for their leather dresses, and this perfume definitely has leather in it. It’s an 80s oriental chypre of the absolute highest quality. Think original Versace mixed with Capucci de Capucci. Intoxicating, warm, smoky animalic leather.
I have been collecting minis of this for a while since full bottles are almost non-existant, but I finally just got my hands on two full bottles, one 50 ml and one 30 ml. So happy!
My bottles and all my minis are edt, but I have seen pictures of an edp as well – it has frosted glass, while the edt has clear glass. However, the edt is absolutely strong and long-lasting enough, I honestly don’t see how it could get any better.

I agree with imoore – Jitrois is a chypre, and an unusual one at that. Or maybe this is a categrory-bender, bridging the two. Jitrois is green and herbal, book-ended by citrus and civet notes that don’t quit. In fact, adding Jitrois to your collection will not duplicate any of your other greens that you own because of the strength of its citrus. Dries down to a beautiful base of myrrh on a bed of resin, which is still faint on my skin after 7 hours. Yum. Jitrois is unisex, for sure. In fact, I highly recommend this for men. After the initial blast, Jitrois sits close to the body.

My review is for a bottle from the late 1980’s 100ml EdT with lightly ambered juice, no box. This is clearly a Jean-Claude Ellena lesser known fragrance done in the style he used at L’Artisan Parfumeur under Jean-Francois Laporte. Let me thank Fotolux for listing all the notes! The florals blend gracefully with the supple, yet lush leather barely hinting at the animalics. This is done with a deft hand, not a powerhouse bomb. It clearly reflects the 1980s style in it’s day before IFRA crucified the heart of the chypre wuth it’s restructions on oakmoss & bergamot. It transports me to the Cote d’Azur on a breezy late afternoon or early evening in perfect weather. Both Jean-Claudes are a few years apart in age and were both born and raised in the South of France in the 1940s. This is where they spent their formative youth amidst the celebrated lifestyle of the area. Grace Kelly had just married Prince Rainier in Monaco. Starlets such as Brigette Bardot flocked to Cannes & St.Tropez. Perfumers like Edmond Roudnitska were creating masterpieces from the fields & gardens in nearby Grasse for Christian Dior. Henri Robert had just created Pour Monsieur for Chanel. His nephew, Guy Robert, Grasse trained was creating Doblis leather perfume for Hermes. These noses were trained & developed in the golden age of perfumery. I recommed this to those of you who miss the era when a chypre could shine in all it’s glory.

I received my vintage mini of this today, and it smells wonderful! The first sniff smelled as though it had turned, but in a couple minutes, it was heavenly! Very rich and deep and ambery. Reminds me a little of a cross between Mitsouko and Terre d’ Hermes. The myrrh, bergamot, citrus, and rose are the notes I pick up most. Very nice!

ok! I do not get it
why would it be in an oriental group, when it is clearly a chypre?!
Could somebody correct the database? This beauty deserves some more attencion.
