In the autumn of 2017 I met Olivier Durbano in his shop in Grasse and had the opportunity to try all of his 10 fragrances. Somehow I started with Jade and was instantly mesmerized by this truly unique fragrance. At first, I couldn’t imagine wearing something like this. It’s just too different and reminds me of no other perfume.
Jade combines a fresh and warm greenness with a sweet and fruity edge in an extremely well balanced composition. The perfume is structured around a green tea accord. Mint and other herbal notes give it a fresh green character, with anise standing out. Immortelle gives way to the warmer notes like cassia (spicy) and moss. After one hour of wearing the extrait de parfum (not listed on Fragrantica) I even get hints of a warm tobacco note.
To me, Jade is to Durbano, what Hindu Grass is to Nasomatto; a work of art that radiates the artist’s belief in world peace.

I’ve been testing all the scents from this line during the last couple of days, and this is my absolute favourite. I need a bottle of this at some point, I’m considering buying this for my birthday this year or maybe christmas.
Anyway. On my skin Jade opens very green and fruity. It smells like a combination of fresh green tea leaves and green pears, still hanging on the tree. The scent has a very natural soft, green sweetness, but it’s balanced by the gentle bitterness from the tea and the slightly more pronounced bitterness from the mate.
The mate also makes the scent deeper and more earthy as the fragrance develops on the skin. Paired with the oakmoss, patchouli, vetiver and imortelle it creates a gorgeous, grounding smell of soft, smoky earth and greenery. Jade feels very zen like on the skin. To me Jade evokes imagery of meditating outside, surrounded by lush, fertile nature. It’s such a calming scent, deep, but also with bright facets.
After about an hour on the skin there is something that reminds me of tobacco in here. Don’t know what it is, but I love it. It gives the otherwise smooth green scent an interesting edge.
Sillage starts as a solid medium, but slowly softens on the skin. This is never a loud scent, but it’s noticeable. Soft, but with a clear presence. Longevity is very good. I get between 8-10 hours out of this. The last two hours it’s more of a skin scent.

Quite a strange fragrance. At no point does this ever smell like tea to me. However, it does definitely bring to mind jade (mostly thanks to the prominent mint). The strongest note is certainly immortelle, which I am not fond of (reminds me of pancakes). It is also ever so slightly smokey and rather minty. Altogether this smells a bit unwearable and more like avant garde / perfume as art. I guess it is just not for me. But even so, this is my number two out of all the Olivier perfumes I have sampled. (Pink Quartz being number one.) I honestly disliked most of his range, but not this one. This one I like.

Jade is… Unusual for a perfume.
On my skin it smells a bit medicinal, a little herbacious and… Mysterious. Yes, it hides a mystery you have to reveal yourself.
Actually it’s quite linear on me, start’s off like a kind of medicine, a little sweet as well (actually – bitter-sweet). Later in time herbs get more and more powerful. But that’s not all. I can clearly smell, detect incense, similar to other fragrances from the brand, especially to Black Tourmaline (not so rough on the edges though) and Rock Crystal (not so churchy though). That’s basically it.
Longevity on my skin is quite impressive – it lasts easilly half a day (12 hours), sillage is leaning more towards skin scent to be honest.
It could be a scent of a fairy. Or even a witch/sorcerer.

Finally a mint i DO love.
I tried several frags playing around this note, like Cartier Roadster or Very irresistible Homme de Givenchy, but mint has never been my cup of tea.
Jade is the first that shows me the beauty of mint, it is really interesting PLUS i absolutely adore the durbanote.
Well, very uncommon. No blind buy.

this one starts of a splash in the face of a minty mint with a tiny raw black tea smell. it gives the smell of a medical ointment, too hot (as temperature hot). the type of hot that you can find in an arab upper back pain sticker called Asad (لزقة اسد) or (lion capsicum plaster) which activates body heat against pain. personally i didn’t like it, it kinda makes me sweat when i smell it & sometimes a teary eyes !

To me this is very similar to Goutal’s Duel. I fell in love with both!
Jade is more herbaceous than Duel IMO, also has better sillage. Longevity is great in both, I get a little bit more with Jade, as it’s EDP concentration.
Tea and mate are my two favourite ingredients in perfumes and it contains them both! On my skin it’s a herbal tea all the way through, spiced up by mint, cardamom and immortelle(nothing can beat Sables as we speak about immortelle, but here it’s also detectable!)
I get easily about 9 hours with it, sillage depends on the weather(it projects like beast in heat and is kinda’ toned down in cold weather).
Actually, now I love it so much that I seriously consider this being my new signature scent!

Opens with a big in your face spicy tea note…mellow down to a lighter version of Slumberhouse’s Sova to my nose. They don’t have any notes in common, but that’s what I get. Really nice…give it a sniff…especially tea note lovers.

It has a green smoky scent. I’m not sure if it can be affiliated with Jade, but it’s deep and dark smell certainly illustrates a mysterious image…something possibly related to absolute power!
In the world of perfumes, it is reminiscent of Esencia pour Homme by Loewe to me. Although this one is more modern, Esencia smells better.
Had good longevity and projection. Overall: 6 out of 10.

Jade turned out to be a musky/spicy mint scent, which smells a lot like pine to me; it’s a musty but very thin pine scent. Imagine someone, who wants to freshen up, but instead of taking a bath, he decides in a hurry to limit himself to using a mouthwash and hooking a half-dead little tree car freshener on his shirt. Overall, I’m not too impressed. But, gods, do I like the colour of the juice!

It is very interesting indeed. Very strong, dark green, slightly devilish :-), just like the colour of the liquid in the bottle. Very aromatic, peppery, spicy, herbal/floral and smoky. And sexy. In a very, very and I mean very masculine way! I like a bit of masculinity in fragrances every now and then and I do like unisex scents, but this one is all about a MAN! I was wearing the sample today and on several occasions sniffing the aromatic whiffs, looking around, I was thinking – “…hmmm, oh, aaaaah, …I smell a very sexy, quite unusual, male fragrance – who could be wearing THIS?…” And then it dawned at me…that I fancy myself! 😀
I would love to smell this on my man, but on myself…eh…not really, thank you.

This time Durbano’s work is less incensy and more herbal and tea/ mate. It is amazing. It’s one of the most unique perfums I’ve ever smelled. I love it! Yes – it smells green, but with strange smoke note and it’s sweet and tart at the same time. In the beginning JADE is juicy and fruity, with unusual herbal twist. Then it develops into heart notes which are little bit tart, dry, herbal-tea and flowery. These notes goes and goes and the fragrance is very longlasting and quite potent. So one has to use it sparingly. Anyway – JADE is one of the Durbano’s best. You really won’t find ANYTHING like this one, believe me.
