Iris Pallida 2007 L’Artisan Parfumeur for women and men of L’Artisan Parfumeur

Description

As the third fragrance of the Harvest Fragrances series, sfter Fleur d’Oranger in 2005 and Fleu de Narcisse in 2006, comes Iris Pallida 2007. The fragrance is composed of the best quality iris of Toscane, carefully selected. Iris is one of the most expensive and opulent perfume ingredients. Its scent is simply distinguished – it caresses us with its velvety woodsy notes, but in a royal manner – elegantly and coldly. Iris Pallida, described as floral woody, was created by Anne Flipo, like the others of the Harvest collection.

For anyone that cares, as of Oct-8-2016 I have a 98% full bottle in full retail presentation for sale on eBay. If interested go to eBay and search under “L’Artisan Iris Pallida”.
My own interpretation of this beautiful and rare fragrance is as follows. The first note that comes up and lingers for about 30 mins on the skin is the Anise. Do not be disappointed, after 30 mins more or less the Anise disappears and the heart of the fragrance opens up giving entrance to the gorgeous and mysterious Iris note surrounded by the likes of Patchouli, Amber, Musk, Cedar and what not. The scent is sensual, earthy, almost salty yet subtle. Its not overwhelming. I did not detected the Turkish Rose, Rose Mallow, Lily or Orange Blossom but that could be just me and my own pH, or maybe I was just too intoxicated by the Iris note. Someone else could pick up all the notes in the composition, or some of them. Make no mistake, the Iris Pallida is very present in heart of this sensual concoction. No fragrance smells the same on every person. I spritzed a tiny amount on my wrist, which I could still smell a good 6 hours later. Truly a very unique and magical fragrance.

A very nice iris, but faded too quickly and isn’t different enough from my beloved Infusion d’Iris or Iris de Nuit to replace them. Very lovely though, cool, classic well handled iris.

I’ve had this for a while, and I bought it from my friend who runs a Niche fragrance boutique in my town. Ever since I first started going, I always saw a tester bottle of this, with its beautiful purple label sitting there virtually untouched, with one lone box of 1.7oz in stock. I never mentioned it to her, because I was a bit intimidated of irises. I’d always seen them as a cold, stoic flower that my skin could never pull off. I saw iris in the name, and never touched it.
Then one day, on a whim and looking for something different, I sprayed the untouched tester to see what this was about. She saw me pick it up and told me it was the last one she had, and that she won’t be getting it in stock again because it’s no longer in production. On paper, it was certainly nice. I detected the iris in very large quantities, but I was a bit overwhelmed with the woodsy, licorice-like anise note. With anise, my skin tends to turn it into something really tart and astringent, especially with Thierry Mugler’s B*Men.
BUT. Far be it from me to turn down something rare. So I bought it, and I would wear it every now and then like as a special-evening perfume.. but, as I had predicted, the anise was out of control and tangy and it severely overstated the iris accord.
So it had sat on my perfume shelf for quite some time. I had a date today, and I wore B*Men for the date.. by the time night had fallen, B*Men was gone, leaving behind only a slight trail of anise. In preparation for my nightly run, I was trying to pick a fragrance.. I’ve been trying to use fragrances that I don’t use too often, this week.. so I grabbed Iris Pallida and drenched myself before my work-out. I figured, “Hey, the tart anise note might be kind of fresh in this heat.”
Wellllll… In warm weather, this is a completely different scent. The anise took the passenger seat for the iris, which was strong, powdery, vegetal, silvery, and dusty.. Just how I like it. For the duration of my run, I literally left a cloud of silvery iris mist around me. It was heavenly. This is a fragrance that I would never have predicted would come alive in warm weather, but it does, and it’s glorious. The Guiac Wood and Musk notes were much more pronounced as well, giving the composition a much more “full” feeling, when compared to the straight up anise-iris bomb in the winter.

@cdmcdonald90 I think you and others were actually smelling and reviewing the re-release of Iris Pallida from 2011, not the Iris Pallida 2007. No offense, but I doubt the sample you got from AdV in the summer of 2011 was the 2007 release and not the new one.

kind of surprised no one has mentined the similarity to aqua di parma iris nobile with its strong anisic quality for beginners, and overall pleasant (almost generic) floral aspect. certainly wont challenge or offend anyone. on me, typical l’artisan here in a flash, gone without a trace lasting power, i actually prefer the carrotty, vegetal earthyiness of other irises (im looking squarely at you, iris silver mist) and miss it here.

Iris Pallida defines iris-gorgeousness for me. To be honest I did not even care iris notes that much before experiencing it. Iris tends to smell for me like cheap makeup or something closely related to carrots – or it just bends and disappears under other notes before I even had a chance to say hello…
But Iris Pallida is another kind… …the opening blast is herbal-green with distinct, fresh anis note gently carrying the fragile flower. The supporting cast in Iris Pallida are so beautifully orchestrated that the iris never competes with other notes. They are there to frame it, to preserve it during the lifetime of the scent – which in my skin is not that short, 8 hours or more! I love how the herbal-woody background gradually gets more balsamic tone, eventually it changes to refined amber-musc base with still a herbaceous vibe – and the iris carries on, with smooth and oily texture, beautifully dimensional on top of the gentle base.
The overall feel of Iris Pallida is introspective and heartbreakingly melancholic. It balances beautifully in-between cool herbaceous woodiness and warm ambery muskiness. It’s so refined and mannered that it would probably turn me off – if there were not that dense emotional charge and very understated sensuality. I love it.

I acquired a sample of Iris Pallida from Aedas de Venustas in NYC last summer. At first I thought it was just going to be another smell in my collection. This was due in part to the business card/tester paper, which doubled as a backing in the cellophane envelope, had been sprayed with another perfume. they use used tester paper for the sample packaging. The paper has since diminished in strength and I can finally experience Iris Pallida as it should be.
Anywho, I pulled my sample out today and dabbed it on my skin. At first it was almost medicinal in nature. Then became that smoky, earthy, sexy scent many have described. It’s a weird experience wearing it, and since that was the last of the sample, i’m relishing every moment.
Maybe i’ll find a decant…. one expensive decant.

Clear, cooling, ephemeral and rather linear. Overpriced or I’d keep it to use when the weather’s really hot and I want a light scent that doesn’t make me think too much.

For years, Iris perfumes have decidedly not pleased me. Everything I sampled had that infamous “carroty” iris tuber note and there was way too much indistinct and generic “floweriness”.
Still, since I love irises and loved the “idea” of an iris perfume I kept sampling, and when I met Iris Pallida, the warm spring weather and the refinement of the fragrance combined into a perfect counterpoint to the furnace heat of summer in my part of the world.
Gone where the usual Iris perfume wafts of dirt covered carrots, gone was the generic “flower”, replaced by sweet, ultra elegant iris/orris,roses and anise, cedar, vetiver and the tiniest trace of very well blended patchouli. I was afraid my sweet-gobbling skin would cancel out the sweeter notes (the orange blossom and amber, perhaps)but thankfully, Iris Pallida stays true to its initial loveliness.
I usually flunk perfumes that don’t last, and I will admit Iris Pallida doesn’t persist beyond two or three hours. However, it is so close to being the perfect Iris that I forgave its impermanence and deemed it ever, ever so elegant, full bottle worthy, and a real delight in this most torrid of seasons.

The first cloud of sillage when the sample vial is opened is simply magical. The combination of iris and anise dances and sparkles like a single firework that explodes and disappears, leaving behind a soft velvety cloud that’s sweeter, less powdery, and more moist than the typical iris scent. It’s subtle, but still has plenty of sillage. The floral notes all blend together smoothly into a whole that’s more than the sum of its parts, something like an iris flower, but not quite as substantial. For a few hours it’s a lovely, low-key, fairly linear scent that gradually wafts away into thin air. Like so many other L’artisan fragrances, Iris Pallida does not have much lasting power, but it is beautiful while it’s there.

L’Artisan Parfumeur IRIS PALLIDA is a beautiful woody iris composition with the emphasis on the iris rather than the wood. The iris showcased is the flower itself, not the roots, so this creation is not dark and earthy at all. Instead, it is light and limpid. Among the niche iris perfumes I’ve tried, IRIS PALLIDA may be closest to TDC BOIS D’IRIS, but the latter is far more woody. IRIS PALLIDA seems relatively simple and linear, but the notes are perfectly blended.
I would like to be able to say that I love IRIS PALLIDA, and perhaps I do for the short duration of its existence on my skin. After a couple of hours, however, not even the faintest trace remains, making this a no-go for me. I wish that L’Artisan would take seriously the ubiquitous criticisms of the ephemerality of their offerings. The quality here is beyond dispute, but I expect much better longevity than most of the L’artisan line-up delivers.

This is easily one of the most beautiful fragrances I ve ever smelled, so natural, so clear, such high class such eerieness..I cannot compare it to all my 14 other Iris perfumes it would do them no good at all.. The opening is at once a strange and fine and natural Iris accompanied by a peppery blueberry.. I want to bite my skin, it is soo delicious!! It goes on to meld with the Anise and Rose and gets more and more ladylike…then the violet and vetiver kicks in lightly and I melted away…dreamily …this perfume has one thing:dignity..it s a class on his own and for sure the most wonderful Iris I ve ever smelled.. the iris never leaves,it’ll come back in soft whispers when I blow it to life again with a soft hot breath to my wrist.. now I can go on and on…but if you are really a perfume lover, then you would have to at least once try this as a sample..and if you are an Iris lover, there’s no way you can leave that one out. I do not want to hear (or less know) of anybody who would NOT like this Iris Pallida. I ve bought my 2nd bottle now and this should last a lifetime.. and you know, it was worth every penny but you already guessed that..now I m going to have to sell a lot of my other frags ..

    L’Artisan Iris Pallida
Big iris liking I carry this fragrance today, and I bow before it with my characterisation. Pallida gives somebody else direction, to which I got used till now, to the iris world entirely. Much deeper, and more complex this fragrance. I feel big obtrusion at the time of first blowing, as if everybody would want to change a ticket into the opera house’s world premiere simultaneously. The star anise is sitting in the extreme box, that at what let him see the lecture in detail. Did not arrive with his pair, hides in the semidarkness silently because of this. The flowery notes are much louder but at him. The lily of the valley waves the shawl of white tulle got beyond the sea constantly about in order for the violet to burst with the envy, and let the breath of the girlfriend of a rose come to halt together with him. The orange blossom is sitting yet, who tries to hush them, because he does not like it the competing, and would give himself up to the elation already with pleasure. His intervention successful, because these the loud one notes they die away. The curtain goes to pieces, and the cedar with a heavy step appears, from which one the hall is imbued with a deadwood feeling. A compere plays a role in order to encourage the iris in his modest entrance. The vetiver brings it from the prompt-box the refreshment support. The patchouli orders it in the orchestra pit the throbbing time measure. The iris opens up next, and bewitches the mixed audience with his dance gripping everybody. The audience is sleeping with enthusiastic applause on the end of the lecture. In the dressing room, when everything is quiet already, only the gaiac tree from a censer hostel volatile swirls around in the air, the bases occur to the celebrated person. To who he may say thank you for his knowledge are the big masters. On who he may have relied always is the old moschus. The lively santal, who flung it far already as a beginner his imagination, and never caused it to be forgotten with him, that goes onto more with his kindness, than with the ostentation. He does not have to make his knowledge glitter it, that let it be acknowledged. He the unique and unmistakable iris is left over always.

I enjoyed the opening and heart very much – floral and elegant, fresh and lovely. I particularly enjoyed the pairing of iris and anise in the top notes. However, sometime in the drydown I was visited by the Ghost of Old Guy (I mean by a smell that seems particular to an elderly man who doesn’t shower or change his clothes very frequently, but still carries the faint scent of shaving cream and hair tonic). Not good.
And as Veruska points out, ridiculously priced.

iris pallida is one of the limited editions harvest and is seriously overpriced. Even if i was big fan of iris,as a smell, i’d go every time for guerlain’s apres l’ondee in half the price. Still this a very smooth scen that starts with a classy iris note that slowly gets the company of violet leaf and lily of the valley in a nice rich effect. In the drydown the intense musk, is never animalic( what a pity),it’s the scent of well showered skin of a high-class lady. As i prefer other kind of irises and the price is out of my reach i can only like it.
