    CURRENT VERSION (2015) REVIEW:
Iniezione di Morfina was released in 2013 and its name means “Morphine Injection”. It has been reformulated and, for this reason, is part of the current collection of perfumes produced by Peccato Originale.
As I had access to both versions produced, this review will reveal my impressions about the current version, from 2015.
It is worth to remember that Silvia Monti’s inspiration was the laudanum, a drug created by Paracelsus, based in saffron, white wine, cinnamon, cloves and opium. This tincture has sedative effect and, therefore, was very used to soothe pain.
While the original version had notes of lemon blossom, seaweed, galbanum, lavender, patchouli, vanilla, etc., this new formulation contains notes of iris and rose, in the output; Jasmine and lily of the valley, in the heart; White musk and vanilla, in the base.
The result has completely changed. The fragrance of yore, which was mossy, creamy and chocolate-type, gave room to a floral and very powdery scent. Before, it was perfectly unisex – from the beginning – and it followed the current trends. Now, it is too feminine and the output scares, because it is strong and dated. Do you know that scent that many people say that smells like “old lady”? Well, this new version ended like this, with an extremely pungent and powdery iris, on a heart sweetened by the lily of the valley combined with jasmine, which evolves to a slightly calmer and creamy base, thanks to the vanilla.
For those who like this type of fragrance, Iniezione di Morfina (2015) is a full plate. It is worth mentioning that it has strong projection and long durability with just a few sprays. Particularly, I do not think it was a good reformulation (there is no great similarity between the fragrances) and I think it could have been launched as a new creation without major problems. I still prefer the original version in every way.

    ORIGINAL VERSION (2013) REVIEW:
Iniezione di Morfina was released in 2013 and its name means “Morphine Injection”. It has been reformulated and, for this reason, is part of the current collection of perfumes produced by Peccato Originale.
As I had access to both versions produced, this review will reveal my impressions about the original version, from 2013. Soon, I will publish another review, commenting on the current version, reformulated in 2015.
Silvia Monti’s inspiration was the laudanum, a drug created by Paracelsus, based in saffron, white wine, cinnamon, cloves and opium. This tincture has sedative effect and, therefore, was very used to soothe pain.
Paracelsus was a doctor and alchemist, who also called himself as physical, astrologer and occultist. He was born in Switzerland and was educated by his father, who was also a physician and alchemist. He was very famous and some say it was he who named the element zinc.
This original version of Iniezione di Morfina contains notes of lemon blossom, seaweed and oakmoss, on top, making room for notes of galbanum, lavender, black pepper and clove, in the heart, followed by a base of patchouli, vanilla and sandalwood.
On the skin, the mossy opening merges to the dense and bitter body, full of nuances of galbanum and clove, which is softened, steadily, by the lavender. The vanilla, very silky, joins the patchouli and conveys chocolate nuances, which some times reminded me of the heady perfume of the classic Pour Un Homme de Caron, as well as some facets of the unusual Violet Chocolatier, by PK Perfumes.
Iniezione di Morfina is a delicious and different fragrance. However, don’t be fooled by its name, because it’s nothing calming or sedative. Quite the contrary, it is addictive and appealing!

A powdery Rose and iris fragrance with a hint of lily of the valley and some musc. A white powder delicate essence. It’s like a body talc.

This has been a very interesting sample, it’s on verge of being utterly beautiful, but there is something in the heart part I find rather disturbing.
But for one I can tell with complete certainty – it’s not bland nor boring nor short lived nor forgettable.
From the start it’s very powdery, I’m sure there is some candied violet leaf and/or violet. There is also definitely some soft floral notes in the background , but the whole composition sits around a bewitchingly sweet, dark elixir. There is the woody cloying feeling of cedar and at some point I could swear I get licorice. It actually resembles a more soft/floral version of Eau de Minuit series by LL.
The drydown gets a bit heavier on the cedar/woods and light flowers.
In all honesty I am suprised. I think this is worthy of seeking out a sample and I might add this sparked my interest to explore the rest of the line.

I smell a base of jasmine, a powdery note. The opening has a fleeting citrus with a light peppery note that quickly dissapears. But it gets very linear after that.
It’s more like a powdery/sweet floral scent. Until some light woods join the composition and becomes more approachable.
There’s a distinctive note that I don’t like and I’m guessing that’s violet leaf or lavender.
Another thing, this fragrance stays close to skin but that’s probably part of the morphine shot idea.
I’m trying hard to like this perfume, but I have to le it go. It’s not for me.

The notes list quoted in the review below seems to be somewhat incorrect (or perhaps just incomplete !?) But the notes list I have for this rather interesting & unusual fragrance are as follows :
    Iris * Rose * Jasmine * Lily-of-the-Valley * White Moss * Vanilla
… and that’s pretty much what it smells like to my nose – (tho’ I concede even this list is not exhaustive)
As for Peccato Originale (Original Sin) I think the whole concept behind these fragrances, i.e. them supposedly being “translation of Galen’s recipes”, is just more image hype than actual contained truth. But either way, regardless if actually true or not, I still think it’s an interesting line with rather unusual smelling fragrances, that are certainly worthy of exploration by any ‘fumehead’ … ( after all, what better way to fuel your ‘fume addiction than with a fragrant ‘shot of morhine’ ) 😉

The opium based elixir is its inspiration. Paracelsus called it Laudanum which means “to praise”.
It rapidly develops habit and addiction.
    Charismatic and enterprising.
A pungent and luminous jus, entwined with the warmth of Galbanum and Lavender.
It takes very long to evolve and ends up by developing a warm mix of Vanilla e Patchouli.
Olfactory notes: Lemon Flower, Galbanum, Lavender, Black Pepper, Vanilla, Patchouli.
I have 3ml of this and if Cantaride had not captured my attention, It would’ve been Morphina. It’s different, just as Cantaride is, especially in my collection. Bottle Worthy if you want to smell like NO ONE in your city. Like I do. RaJuR real deep kool on YouTube
