INDIAN SPICE or… the smell you experience when entering an indian or indonesian furniture or leather goods store. The essences of polished dark woods mixed with scented candles, oils & spices floating in the air.
An inviting and convincing combination of spicy notes in opening. Extremely homogeneous where no notes really seems to take over. Everything is balanced and in the right proportions. And then, I was lead towards this beautiful, dark & dusty dry woods base. A gentle smokiness settles in as in a very delicate, subtle combination of labdanum & oud. But, to be clear, this is no oud fragrance. Only an element playing its part. By the 5th or 6th hour, comes in another stage of the dry down slowly settling into an ambery-like sweetness. For those familiar with Francis Kurkdjian’s Grand Soir, there is something reminiscent of it like a caramelized amber. But, here ends the comparison between these two.
First try didn’t struck me as sweet, but the more I wear it, the more I get this subtle impression of spicy burned caramel or like others have pointed out, spicy & sweet chai latte.
Zegna’s High End Designer lines doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but so much quality and subtlety comes out of those beautiful bottles. Which by the way are 120ml. Expensive, yes, but you get more compared to 50 or 75ml we often see in this range of fragrances
Honestly, one of the most cherished fragrance I have purchased so far!
In a few words… spices, dark & dusty woods!

This smells exactly like North Indian Khoya Barfi, which is a cardamom milk cake made of cream cheese.

I tried this today as well as Persian Saffron.
The opening is spicy, yummy, like a delicious creamy sweet chai.
I’m looking at the notes here and personally I can’t smell oud, patchouli or cedar. It’s all about the sweetened cardamom and coriander over a bouquet of flowers that emits a very faint scent. At one point it made me feel a bit queasy with its sweetness.
Sillage and longevity are excellent.
