Incense Gold is extremely well done, but very austere and not that easy to wear. Mostly because of its acrid and acid overall feeling.
It is mostly a woody fragrance in the sense of conifer and not in the sense of burning resins. It doesn’t bring us the imagery of church incense, frankincense or even the slightest elements of warmth that some incense blend can create sometimes. It leans more towards a territory of smoky conifer wood (think strong cedar or cypress notes), immersed in a very distinctive acrid & acid environnement. From the very opening strong citruses intertwined with an already present note of conifer. The effect is metallic, sharp and very dry. The saffron is probably responsible for that extra dry leathery feeling that seems to increase. And then you feel a kind of indolic and lightly sour note peaking through (white flower? Jasmine?) adding to this already sharp and acrid melange. From then on it will become mostly woody, while still keeping that pungent overall feeling.
Longevity, +8hrs and projection & sillage moderate. Not my favorite, but still it is always fascinating to discover what Zegna does in his Essenze collection. Great quality, extra real notes and always in the most sophisticated and refined blends.
The fragrance seems to have vanished from Zegna’s website. Discontinued already?
