Joan Collins I Am Woman (2014)
This was the last fragrance from Joan Collins which sold on QVC. It was part of the Timeless Beauty Collection of her line of cosmetics including Alexis’ bold red lipstick! This was not all that I thought it would be. It has a striking similarity to Calvin Klein Obsession which I never cared for. I bought it don’t regret it as I am a huge fan of Joan’s but I see this as a pretty generic citrus floral. This is another day wear perfume of which I have many, you know, fragrances that are clearly meant to be worn with sundresses, hats, maxi dresses. It is as mature as Obsession and though not glamorous it has an old fashioned lady like demeanor which today can be thought of as glamorous.
Opens with citrus by the gallon. It has a fresh neroli and orange blossom type of aroma, an orange grove, with green notes and leaves around the citrus and blossoms. A dash of peach. Very summery, fresh, fruity, floral. Due to the oak moss and patchouli, amber and sandalwood, typical Oriental notes, this has a kind of Guerlain Mitsouko vibe. A delicious orange drink and herbal green tea kind of blend. This is sweet but not too sweet. A balsamic note also emerges probably due to the resinous amber and a musky dry down. It starts off cool and fresh and ends with a warm like sunshine on your skin.
On the plus side, the staying power is terrific, like all of Joan’s perfumes: Scoundrel (1981) Spectacular (1989) all of which also have great sillage. This is a real strong and long lasting perfume. Just how I like them. Joan Collins had a birthday yesterday so I am proud to be the owner of her fragrances which I feel are underrated though they are quite lovely. Poor Joan it looks like she has always lost to Elizabeth Taylor whose big movie star status was higher and whose fragrance line was more popular and commercially successful. Still, I hope this review gets the reader to go out and test it or buy it and see for yourself how good Joan Collins perfumes can be. This one is not the best compared to the vintage masterpieces that are Scoundrel and Spectacular but this is not bad either. It’s easy to warm, fresh and flowery with a potent aroma for the lady who loves to stand out in a crowd – like Alexis herself.

I bought this not knowing what to expect. Hadn’t smelled it. Hadn’t even read anything about it. Her line had just launched and I thought “What the hell! Why not?” Then I smelled it and was SO pleasantly surprised! It’s absolutely delicious and without question I can say is my favorite fragrance I’ve ever owned! It’s warm and earthy, sexy and inviting. It’s so vintage that it’s almost ancient smelling which makes it unique compared to everything else available today and also familiar at the same time.
If you are a fan of “Aveda” type scents, warm and early or more natural smelling fragrances, check this out. My gripe isn’t really a gripe at all really, but it’s marketed as a strictly feminine fragrance when I think it smells amazing on anybody. No, I don’t believe that fragrances have genders but this, in particular, is extremely unisex and I imagine there are many men out there who would love this but can’t bring themselves to wear something called “I Am Woman.” Then again, maybe if they just need to grow a pair and try it anyway!
I wear this constantly; men like it, women like it, dogs and cats like it. It’s just outstanding.
You could blindly buy this if you’re a fan of: Shalimar, Dune, Obsession, Youth Dew Amber Nude (or any earthy, amber-heavy fragrance).

I Am Woman you don’t have to tell us twice Joan Collins. You’re one amazing woman! And I love your fragrance. IAW is a citrus floral Oriental with a freshness and green aromatic flair a la Obsession For Women Calvin Klein. But don’t get it wrong. This is not a dupe nor that much like Obsession. Why would Ms. Collins take the trouble to formulate a new fragrance, as late as 2014, sell it, and end up smelling like Obsession which is an iconic 90’s perfume and one that has never been discontinued. The only similarities are in the top notes with the heavy citrus burst.
This is a superb citrus based perfume. In it’s orange center, it is very marketable as a modern fragrance. I.E. Lady Million by Paco Rabanne. But this is not cheap nor a run of the mill ordinary fragrance. This is Joan bloody Collins we’re talking about! And the lady has been with us for years providing us with class, dignity, elegance and fashion! Her entire post Dynasty career she spent convincing us that she was a very sweet woman and not the Alexis bitch we remember from the TV drama. She only launched two fragrances. Her first Spectacular came at the end of the 1980’s and is a superior floral Oriental which I love very much.
IAW leaves behind it’s citruses and develops into a floral patchouli scent. I detect the rose and jasmine as the only identifiable flowers. I would not add the orange blossom because it was already present as it opens. In fact I could literally smell the orange blossom orange flower as I put my nose to the bottle. A sandalwood is also noticeable in the drier stages. Woodsy enough but not too woodsy. A lovely cedar too.
The bottle. Let’s talk about that. This is a gorgeous and very unique looking bottle. Looks great in anyone’s collection or vanity dresser table. The rest of the performance of this stunner of a perfume goes like this. After the citrus begins to wear off slightly, the florals come through with a soapy and very sweet sort of smell. Lovely light jasmine and rose. Then I detected herbal scents of green patchouli leaves, and plenty of oak moss. The moss note is rare to find nowadays much less back in 2014 so this says a lot if not everything. It goes to show that Collins was interested in bringing back old school classic vintage formula notes. Oak moss used to be a staple of most Orientals and especially chypres. This is something of a chypre but because of the citrus floral freshness for me it is never as dry or as woodsy as a chypre. There is not as many woods in this fragrance as there are citruses. The orange blossom is ultimately the strongest accord. If you’re fond of orange blossom check it out. Other than that the dry down stage appears to be very mossy and musky, nothing extraordinary. It can be quite Oriental because it reminds me of a sort of tweaked Shalimar. They share similar notes: citrus top, lemon, rose, jasmine, patchouli. The oak moss is not as strong as in vintage original moss fragrances. It’s a synthetic chemical moss but it’s very green and very beautiful. It evokes a green atmosphere of moss on rocks and branches, bushes and herbs, and plenty of orange flowers and jasmines. I also love the amber. The amber and the sandalwood provide it with a distinctive Oriental touch. The ambers are balsamic and gummy without being too sweet. It’s oily and at times powdery. If you like amber this is a very beautifully rendered amber.
The fragrance feels feminine, adult, mature, womanly, exotic, natural, sophisticated and very regal. This is a lush and loud perfume. It does smell like something Alexis or Joan would wear herself. It’s definitely a day time and spring and summer season thing. It’s leisurely and very fresh, very intoxicating. Everyone around me loves to smell the air around me when I walk into a room wearing it. This is a woman’s perfume and I AM WOMAN!
Thank you Joan Collins and may you live a longer life to continue to be with us reminding us of the Golden Age and of your incredible life.
We love you Joan. From women everywhere and from this humble woman
    in the UK. Thank You.

In my opinion, this is the best perfume created through the last 15 years. It is classy, super unique and has a huge character. Warm, sexy, fresh, energizing in the morning, and after your night bath, it will loosen your tensioned muscles. I’m sure they applied AromaTherapy teachings while creating it.
    Longevity:10/10
    Sillage: 10/10
    Bottle Design: 10/10
    I purchase it in bulks

I Am Woman by Joan Collins is a classically formulated modern fragrance. I was surprised at how this smells like a vintage even though it’s only a couple years old. I love it. I’m not crazy about the bottle/packaging but the scent is lovely. The name kind of sounds like one of Joan Collins biographies, autobiographies or one of her one woman shows. This smells not like Alexis from Dynasty – for that vibe get the vintage Spectacular! This one is the Joan Collins of today, an experienced worldly woman with a lot to say. And still beautiful.
The opening is a fresh citrusy scent. Lots of citruses: orange, bergamot, lemon and a dash of peach. Fruity, sweet, not bitter, fresh, summery, uplifting. As the citric notes dissipates, the florals emerge. Smells like roses and jasmines. These are fragrant bouquets. A green floral rose, with orange blossom thrown into the mix. Grown up florals, not too sweet, more on the realistic floral side. At times it smells like shampoo and that I really love because I can easily spray a little on my hair or behind my ears right by my hair. Leaves behind quite an aroma and trail wherever you go.
The dry down reveals an Oriental base. I was able to pick up on the cedar wood, sandalwood, a bit of patchouli musk and amber. I love all these Oriental notes. The woodsy notes and green notes go very well together. Strong stuff, not youthful, not too sweet, mature, elegant, lady-like and well-composed. Other reviewers have compared this fragrance to others (Shalimar? Giorgio? Obsession?) Maybe a tad just a tad like CK Obsession but frankly I don’t see it. This is a unique fragrance and stands on it’s own. Beautiful. Perfectly suited to the day time summer & spring, for formal wear with dresses and gowns.
    Again – beautiful!!!

This is bloody marvelous. I wasn’t thinking I’d like it as much as I do as I was expecting some sort of blousey, floral Red Door/Giorgio/Poison fusion (which also would have probably been fine by me..) but this has many, many layers and goes through lots of stages. Although it is strong and floral it never becomes cloying or overbearing. It still has heavy hints of shoulder pads, sardonic smile on glossy red lips and big bitch hair but all done in a way that can be pulled off today – in a non-ironic way. Love it.

Wow this was a throwback to vintage classic perfumes. Smells like No. 5, Bal A Versailles and Joy. This is beautiful. I would have to say that this is a mature scent meaning it probably smells better on women over 35 than girls 18 to 23. A girl 18 to 23 wearing this could get away with it if she is used to wearing vintages and has a conservative classy look, wears suits to work, and has her life together. This is a fragrance of absolute class and like the name suggest a real woman. Smells of citrus as it starts not too strong like the citrus in Shalimar but a bit similar, just fresh sweet fruity citrus. There’s a peach that stands out as well. The flowers are beautiful, a rose and jasmine and orange blossom, a bouquet of lovely flowers and the green notes give this scent a realistic garden scent like the lady wearing this perfume has been around a flower shop or greenhouse all day. There is also something that reminds me of Jardin Max Factor. The musky accords patchouli and sandalwood give it an aromatic Oriental type of vibe. I smelled tons of oak moss too and sandalwood. Very beautiful deserves more attention because Joan Collins knows how to make a great perfume. It’s too bad she didn’t churn out that many fragrances as her rival Elizabeth Taylor. I wish there were more JC perfumes. Very gorgeous. I wear this to formal wedding gigs and evening parties. I always get compliments on it.

This sounds utterly divine and exactly what i’ve been looking for in a perfume.
Unfortunately here in Australia we always seem to miss out on these lovely types of fragrances.
But what we do have is an abundance of ‘Beyonce’ and ‘Britney’.
In fact i think Australia must have stock piled it because there seems to be a surplus of these crappy celeb fragrances everywhere i turn.
All the good stuff is overseas and most of the time it costs a fortune to get it shipped over, that’s if they even ship to Australia.
I wonder if it will be available outside of Italy any time soon.
I hope it arrives in England as i intend moving back there this year.
If not, then i think a trip to Italy is on the agenda when i return!

I AM WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR
Bravo Joan Collins. Here is a modern perfume totally wearable for 2016 but created in the style of the classic floral chypres like the vintage old Chanel fragrances. This is so beautiful. I Am Woman makes the statement that you can be empowered, in charge, and yet enjoy being a woman, a sensual, sweet, feminine classy lady. This fragrance starts with a burst of citrus. It’s fresh and sharp. It’s also got aldehydes like the Chanel aldehydes and it’s pretty strong. Normally I stay away from citrus based fragrances but there are some exceptions. This is one of them. The flowers in this fragrance are signature flowers found in the classiest most elegant fragrances I own: rose and jasmine. There’s also orange blossom. Then you have moss and green notes and woodsy notes. And of course amber. And did I mention musk? This This is one hell of a perfume. Not subtle at all but if you’re a woman you gotta let everyone know it. Love this stuff. Highly recommended to all women of all ages shapes and sizes and backgrounds.

Not a review just to those whose post a review soon – I have a request- can you say if it smells anything like her perfume in the 80’s, SPECTACULAR? Thanks. I didn’t know if this was a repromote.

I am a big Joan Collins fan…I bought this without trying first as you do if you are a JC fan ! I have worn I am Woman for a few days now, I find this fragrance quite glamourous and unusual when it softens down. Firstly you receive a grand burst of citrus/ bergamot at the very top, imagine a pop of a fine champagne cork ( think Dynasty theme tune at the start) The floral heart tends to blend into the warmth and sensuality of the base notes, the sandalwood and mossy/green notes stand out the most on me (think of all those early Hollywood films Joan was in soo many to list…)imagine the warmth from the South of France and an evening in Saint Tropez JC style… I am Woman is without a doubt very feminine and reminiscent of some of those perfume greats out there, I am reminded of Shalimar and Coco Chanel, Agent Provocateur…even Miss Dior Le Parfum, but I am Woman doesn’t shout too loud, a definite statement this perfume could well be misinterpreted as being 1980’s, there is a touch of the power scents of that era, but I am Woman is not a dated scent. Thank You Joan.

Well. What to say. Joan Collins was needed to give a wind of originality to the world of perfumes! The bottle is marvellous art decò. Original these times. The composition is with classic components but surely sounds more original of many others fragrances coming out All The sames on the way of pear, oud, iris, magnolia.. depend of the season. And the name. I Am Woman. A declaration. Primitive. Never seen in perfumery. Applause.
The scent sound like a sparkly interpretation of Giorgio Beverly Hills. But it is just my imagination. We will see.
