Description

Davidoff presented their new masculine fragrance Horizon in February 2016 as a perfume that symbolizes the bond between earth and air, representing freedom, adventure and exploration. A year later, its new version comes out as Davidoff Horizon Extreme.

Horizon Extreme is an oriental – woody composition that comes in an EDP concentration. The composition is “full of contrasts”: its fresh top notes of grapefruit, ginger and rosemary cross into the warm heart of cedar, cypriol, leather and nutmeg. Accords of amber and creamy sandalwood are to be discovered at the base.

The fragrance is available as a 40, 75 and 125 ml Eau de Parfum. Horizon Extreme was launched in 2017. Horizon Extreme was created by Olivier Pescheux and Jacques Huclier.

I can definitely smell fresh citrus mixed with rosemary and ginger in the opening. The smell then turns to leathery sandalwood. It reminds me of my grandparents old wardrobe! Their wardrobe was very natural (never use air freshener inside), just clean clothes and wood. If you like Bvlgari Man (sandalwood-prominent), I think you’ll enjoy this one.

WHAT a fine surprise this little gem of a fragrance is! I don’t get any skankyness or funkyness from this frag lol. It has a very masculine extremely smokey/woody vibe to it with the grapefruit hanging around from the opening into the mid. Then it smooths out into mostly woods and leather with a touch of freshness. And its EDP concentration so you can’t go wrong with that!! Longevity is on the average side although on certain days it lasts longer than others. It seems more of skin scent but if you go harder on the trigger it will project enough. Its really a nice calming and pleasant smell. Light but dark enough to give it some personality and richness. Again for 17 bucks you cannot go wrong. Definately a goodie!!

I was looking for a leather scent for the cooler rainy days. I’ve been sniffing a couple until this was suggested to me. Most smelled alike with some better than others. This stood out because of the spices. It’s intriguing on paper.
When I got home, I tried it on my skin before going to sleep and almost made me regret it. The first spray is strong, maybe a little too harsh. But when it dried down a little, it’s addictive. It reminded me of those 80s men’s perfume we had at home when I was a kid. I sort of missed that , or I realised how much I missed that. Leathery, peppery and rugged. Nostalgic of the male figures I grew up with.
It’s great in cool weather. It’s warm and cozy. Very masculine. And it performs really well and long.
I’m conscious about wearing it in hot weather. Today’s a bit warm. Horizon Extreme dried down and smelled animalic – skanky as people here calls it. But I don’t mind smelling a little dirty. Makes me feel more grown up after using pretty much aquatics the past two years.
UPDATE: So after a couple of months, I found myself reaching for it less and less. I still love the drydown. However, there is this annoying medicinal smell that lingers ever so faintly, an unpleasant, covered-up bile-like smell that ruins it. If not for that, this would have been awesome.

Put this on this morning after having had it stashed away neglected after getting it for a negligible price in a chemist (Superdrug, I think.) I am seriously impressed! (Is there a proper way of doing markup in these fields? I’m almost certain I’ve seen bold characters in reviews.) It is indeed quite skanky, in a balsamic sort of way, not really fecal. (Maybe it has real cypriol in it). And the spiciness+amberiness compliments it in scrupulouly adjusted proportion.
But then I’m assuming it’s a lower pricepoint fragrance. Maybe I got more of a discount than I realised. This is one of those direct hit type finds!

Fecal? Heavy leather? Vetiver? Fireside warmth? No, not for me. I can understand how one might detect this or that note, but none are strong. In any case, what I think this does well is to recreate those “old school” scents like Van Cleef & Arpels for Men, but without the lavender. I first did a dab sample, and after a while I could smell leather clearly, but then I wore it again, two sprays to the chest, and it’s mostly a “masculine” blend. At first I got something orangy, and the musk is there for a long time, first aiding with a dry/herbal quality and then after a couple hours it’s a bit powdery but otherwise quite blended. It’s never sweet and I never got anything fecal. Also, if you like the old school scents I doubt this one will be too much for you in any way. In fact, it might be a bit underwhelming. Now if I had used five or more sprays it might “bloom” differently. One person, I think at BN, said this was a dirty/oud type scent, but I have no idea where that perception could originate. I agree with the person who said there is a “coolness” to the drydown, and so I could not categorize this as an oriental. Overall, at a low price, it could be worth a blind buy for those who know what they want.
UPDATE: I think when it comes to vintage comparisons, this might be closest to vintage Kanon cologne, in terms of the drydown.

I wish it could be exaggeration when I say this smells absolutely fecal off of the skin. stick to davidoff horizon (the non extreme version).

Opens with a blast of citrus-spice.Tried it in the Indian summer. Does settle down to a comfortable and very familiar Indian Vetiver coolness, though Vetiver is not mentioned.
Decent sillage and moderate longevity for a day fragrance.
    Should do better in winters.

Opening is great, the drydown is not good. Not for me. Skanky and animalic in a bad way. Pass

It’s a year 2018 and according to official Davidoff website the current fragrance pyramid looks like this:
    Top Notes: Ginger, Rosemary
    Middle Notes: Nutmeg, Sandalwood
    Base Notes: Cedarwood, Amber

I bought the original Horizon after being pleasantly surprised after sampling it in town, and thought that the extreme version might also be something that I would like. My impatience got the better of me, so I purchased this one blind upon it’s release, but unfortunately it is not as likeable and wearable as the original.
It is similar in construction i suppose, however there is a skankyness in the Extreme that just ruins it for me!
If this was like the original but with a woody backbone, i feel it would have worked just fine.. but something they have used in this just ruins the balance. Lot’s of Oud fragrances have skank, and it works for them.. but adding a skanky ‘tang’ to a fresh, uplifting & easy-going scent is a recipe for disaster.
    5/10

When I tried this again yesterday I keep getting a huge vetiver drydown. Mabry it’s the leather and Cypriol giving me that but I can’t help but think of Bvlgari Man when I smell this. Its a spicy Bvlgari Man and is a fine scent indeed. 4/5

I love being a fragrance nut and it’s because of days like this, you get so jaded by new releases that I let out a disappointed sigh at the mere sight of one, especially a flanker of a decent original which was only out last year. I truly enjoyed Horizon and got several samples on its release, solid stuff but didn’t quite compel me to buy, this intense version is a different story all together. Anyway…this stuff is really very good and no ruff edges or anything just a nice, wearable and well put together fragrance. Grapefruit in the opening is sharp and completely contrasting from a modern, masculine leather, herbal, woody type heart/base. It’s a different feel to the original in that this is without doubt an oriental fragrance but still has shades of the citrus/woody/ginger of horizon without just being an intense version. The difference with this and many new releases I end up liking is that I instantly felt a sense of knowing what Horizon Intense was going to deliver but it was still totally non typical. Performance was okay to good and I couldn’t ask for more really. I want a bottle. Bravo Davidoff for not ruining but building upon the legacy of the first fragrance.

Quite different from it’s predecessor, a cold weather leathery fragrance.
On me I get a sense of incense then the leather gets in.
Feels to me like an old-fashioned masculine fragrance and I mean that as a compliment
Good longevity with notable silage, would imagine would suit a rugged outdoors type guy. Nice

Davidoff horizon extreme is a tart leather fragrance with a bit of an “orange cleaner” vibe subtly sneaking around behind the scenes. With a passing sniff, it smells intriguing and masculine. With a sustained sniff, i defect a medicinal tone in the background. I must admit, I haven’t tried any recent releases from davidoff. My only experience to date is cool water (as a high schooler) and relax (last year – hard pass). This seems slightly unique for a designer release, especially considering the ambroxen driven powerhouses that we’ve seen on display from Dior, Prada and coach – to name a few. While I can’t say this is a ground breaking fragrance, it’s distance from the mainstream is intriguing. The tart leather is also a nice distraction from the typical Tuscan Leather formula. Overall, if you’re looking for a cheap leather scent that isn’t sticky sweet, but has some depth, this may be your kind of frag!

Take all the spiced fireside warmth of the original, concentrate it into a suede bag, and you basically have Horizon Extreme. Good stuff, much stronger and more leathery than its predecessor, but worth having if semisweet orientals turn you on.

I have this MASTERPIECE. I tested it, and after 1 hour I was regreting cause I didn’t buy it that time.
But I went for it the next day!
It is dark, mysterious, a little leathery, and always a compliment getter.
Very beautiful and attractive, warm, sexy, lovely.
The opening is bit strong, but after 5 minutes you have a beautiful, warm and calming scent.
Longevity as about 8-10 hours on my skin 9/10
    Projection is awesome 9/10
    Sillage: 9/10
    Scent: 10/11 🙂
When I wear it, I feel very confident.
    Good work Davidoff

A leather first fragrance. That is not a bad thing nor is it a first for Davidoff (anyone remember Relax?). I do like it a lot so far. Had to buy from European seller as it’s not yet released in the U.S. so hopefully it will be released stateside soon. It’s not my favorite cologne but It is a good quality, good smelling, cologne. I feel like I can wear it anywhere.

Enjoyed the opening, which is heavy leather and dark woods and spices, but the drydown is very animalic, a dirty oudy animalic that is very dodgy indeed. Try before you buy, let it settle on your skin, and see if you can take it. I can’t, it’s far too barnyard for me.

I bought a bottle at Dubai airport duty free, the fragrance projects well enough and smells good, specially at cold weather, the most powerful note is the leather.. i’d rate it at 8/10 .
